Samuel L. Jackson (u.a. "Jumper", "1408", "Star Wars"-Prequels, "Pulp Fiction") will nach eigener Aussage den verstorbenen Vater verkörpern, die Titelrolle aber einem jungen Darsteller überlassen - evtl. Andre 3000 !?!

MTV.com sprach mit Samuel L. Jackson über die geplante Realverfilmung...
A few years ago, I went to Comic-Con and couldn’t escape the fact that Samuel L. Jackson’s "Afro Samurai" was being hyped as the next big thing. This year, a new season and a video game were being hyped, and it was obvious that the show had indeed become the big thing. Next year, could we be talking about a live-action film starring a certain OutKast rapper/actor?
"We have a live-action plan," Jackson revealed, saying that he wants to see Afro’s battle with Number One up on the big screen with flesh-and-blood actors. "Hopefully, that script will come together and we’ll be able to do that in the next two years or so."
On the TV Show, Sam the Man is an executive producer and the voice of the high-kicking Samurai warrior. In real life, however, the 59-year-old actor revealed to us that he’ll let someone else play Afro.
"No, I’m not; I won’t be doing that," he shrugged. "I’ll be the dead father. I’ll show up in some spiritual scenes, and give him some guidance. We’ll find some young guy that is capable of doing all those things and make it really cool."
Asked who he wants for the flick, the producer responded: "You know, when I look at him, I see Andre 3000," Jackson grinned. "So, maybe so."
Stick with MTV News, as we’ll be sure to ask Andre for his thoughts next time we speak with him. But in the meantime, Jackson insists that he’s making the "Afro Samurai" movie a priority, since even after such high-profile films as "Pulp Fiction," the "Star Wars" movies, "The Incredibles" and all the others, Afro still holds his own as far as fan desirability.
"’Afro Samurai’ is an interesting hybrid we did, hoping that people would like it, and people embraced it," Jackson marveled. "It just kinda happened. And now I’m walking down the street and people are asking me about ‘Afro Samurai.’ When’s it coming back? When’s the game coming out? Apparently, it has resonated with a lot of people as well as it did with me when I first saw it." [...]

Anime AICN liefert eine Kritik zur Serie...
[...] Afro Samurai proves to be anime to own on DVD. Not only does the impact of the action never dull, there are enough interesting facets to the narrative, and production that it warrants multiple viewings. There might not be anything truly profound to be discovered that isn't readily apparent. There is enough complexity to the duels and to the composition that a fan of the violence or the medium has plenty to work with.
Anime AICN meldet...
FUNimation has acquired home video, master toy and merchandising rights to Afro Samurai, an animated mini-series based on a graphic novel by Takashi Okazaki that will premiere on Spike TV in 2006 five-part mini-series. Samuel L. Jackson is set to voice and co-produce the mini-series. Namco (Tekken, Soul Calibur) is also working on a video game. The animation studio GONZO (Full Metal Panic, Gantaz ) describes Afro Samurai as a fusion of animation, science fiction and hip-hop.
"Afro Samurai has a fascinating story line and will undoubtedly have GONZO's stunning animation. High impact titles like this emphasize FUNimation's 'quality over quantity' strategy," says Gen Fukunaga, president and CEO of FUNimation Entertainment. "This is truly a unique project with an impressive team. GONZO is on board as series producer, Samuel L. Jackson is the voice of the lead character and also serving as co-producer, Spike TV is set to telecast the , and NAMCO is creating the video game."
The tale of Afro Samurai takes place in a unique world that is part ancient Japan and part futuristic science fiction fantasy. Samuel L. Jackson stars as "Afro" the solitary samurai on a quest to avenge the wrongful death of his father. It is a story of bloody hardship and pain. Afro sheds no tears and knows no love. Forever chased by powerful enemies in a lawless technology- speckled dystopia, he evades bullets and blade to reach his final prey: a man who will not die.
Samuel L. Jackson told SCI FI Wire that he's completed most of his work on the upcoming animated limited-run television series Afro Samurai, based on the Gonzo comic book of the same name. "I think that it will air later this year [on Spike TV]," Jackson said in an interview while promoting his new film, Freedomland. "We're doing five episodes. If those are popular, then we'll probably do more."
Jackson is providing the voice of Afro, an African-American samurai warrior who, in a futuristic feudal Japan, seeks to avenge the death of his father, who was slain before Afro's eyes when he was a boy. In addition to playing Afro, Jackson is co-producing Afro Samurai with the Japanese animation entity GDH and Takashi "Bob" Okazaki, creator of Afro Samurai. A live-action version of Afro Samurai is also in the works, with Jackson reportedly attached to star.
Stand der Dinge !?! AICN zitiert Samuel L. Jackson...
"They’re doing the animation right now. That portion of AFROSAMURAI (the animated series) will be on Spike TV next year hopefully. We’re now in the process of hiring a writer to do the live action script."
Bei AICN gibt es einen Kommentar von Quint...
[...] I don't know about you guys, but I have visions of a live-action CLONE WARS-esque Sam Jackson killing the shit out of bad guys left and right... With the tone of something like SHOGUN ASSASSIN... That's what I want and I hope I get something anywhere near that cool! [...]
Samuel L. Jackson has signed on to star in and co-produce "Afrosamurai," a live-action feature film adaptation of Takashi Okazaki's manga property. Gonzo, Fuji Television Network and Los Angeles-based Mosaic Media Group's Charles Roven and Alex Gartner will produce. Shinichiro Ishikawa and Chihiro Kameyama will co-produce. The Firm's Eli Selden and Julie Yorn will executive produce. Gloria Fan is shepherding the project for Mosaic. " 'Afrosamurai' is an enormously exciting concept that we think will translate strongly into a feature film," Roven and Gartner said. "We look forward to working with Samuel as well as with Gonzo and Fuji Television Network as we embark on this new venture together."
Legendary film actor/producer/icon Samuel L. Jackson agrees to play the main voice of Afro Samurai in the animated mini-series. In addition, discussions of a live-action movie commence.
