[26.09.2007] David Rodriguez schickte uns folgende Pressemitteilung...
Directors Peter Scheerer and Michael Roesch have completed principal photography for "Alone in the Dark 2".
Produced by Uwe Boll, the picture was shot in Los Angeles and New York City, and is based on Atari´s successful series of video games.
"Alone in the Dark 2" tells the story of Edward Carnby, who joins forces with a team of witch hunters to track down the dangerous witch Elisabeth Dexter.
Director Michael Roesch tells: "When we were hired to write and direct ALONE IN THE DARK 2, we asked ourselves: What villain would we really like to see on the screen? And a mighty, dangerous witch was definitely on the top of our list. We cannot wait to show the movie to the audiences."
Director Peter Scheerer continues: "We were really lucky with our cast. Fortunately many actors and agents liked the script, and we were able to get so many great actors. We are great horror fans, and it´s really awesome to work with our favorite actors on the movie."
Rick Yune, Rachel Specter, Lance Henriksen, Bill Moseley, Danny Trejo, Ralf Moeller, Zach Ward, Natassia Malthe, P. J. Soles, Michael Pare, Jason Connery and Brooklyn Sudano are starring in the movie.
"Alone in the Dark 2" is scheduled for a 2008 release.

[17.08.2007] Dread Central meldet...
[...] Andrew, just used his telephony device to report a somewhat cool casting change on Michael Roesch & Peter Sheerer’s Alone in the Dark II: Alone Harder (not the actual subtitle), the set for which he’s visiting this evening.
Seems genre stalwart and all around classy lady Dee Wallace (you might remember her from... everything) has been replaced by an equally exquisite lady; PJ Soles. You damn well better remember her as Lynda from the original Halloween [...]
Soles is filling the role of Martha, the maid to Lance Henriksen’s character who apparently has quite a history with him and is familiar with the witch at the story’s heart. That’s about all we know of the plot right now, actually, but Andrew did assure us that the sequel is ignoring the first film all together. [...]

Christian Slater needs his head read if he agrees to this latest proposition: an "Alone in the Dark 2".
Home Media Retailing says the $7.5 million dollar sequel will be based on the events of the latest "Dark" video-game, with the first films scribes’ Michael Roesch and Peter Scheere directing, as well as penning, the film. Uwe Boll, the first films' director, will only produce this time.
If Slater’s working for food at the moment, he’ll be reprising his role as monster mashin’ paranormal investigator Edward Carnby. [...]

Release: 2007 (USA)

[06.11.2004] CS! meldet...
Lions Gate Films has picked up North American rights to Alone in the Dark, the feature film adaptation of the hugely popular Sega video game. Directed and produced by Uwe Boll and written by Elan Mastai, Michael Roesch and Peter Scheerer, Lions Gate plans a nationwide January 28th release.
"'Alone in the Dark' is a perfect addition to our slate of horror/sci-fi genre films on the pulse of popular culture," said Tom Ortenberg, President of Lions Gate Films Releasing. "Uwe Boll has taken a game with a voracious following and turned it into a film which completely stands on its own," he added.
The deal was negotiated for Lions Gate by Peter Block, Lions Gate Films President of Acquisitions, Television and Co-Productions, Jason Constantine, Senior Vice President of Acquisitions, Wendy Jaffe, Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs and Ortenberg with Peter Safran, President of Brillstein-Grey, Uwe Boll and Karyn Edwards & Shawn Williamson of Bright Light Pictures on behalf of the filmmaker.
"I'm really happy that Lions Gate is releasing 'Alone in the Dark'. The game has millions of fans worldwide and our movie turns out as very intelligent supernatural thriller with great actors and creatures," stated director and producer Boll.
In Alone in the Dark, Edward Carnby (Christian Slater), detective of the paranormal, unexplained and supernatural, investigates the recent, mysterious death of a friend with clues leading to "Shadow Island," that brings him face to face with bizarre horrors that prove both psychologically disturbing and lethal, as he discovers that evil demons worshiped by an ancient culture called the Abskani are planning on coming back to life in the 21st century to once again take over the world.

[06.10.2004] Bei AICN gibt es eine vernichtende Kritik zu einer Testvorführung...
[...] This is quite possibly the worst film I've seen period and I used to work for Troma. Now once again we have a video game movie that completely throws out everything that made the game great. They take a game that was a very atmospheric story, and load it with guns, and Aliens style action. I'm not going into what's wrong with the film cause that would take way too long, suffice as to say that everything is wrong with this film. This film was manic from point A to Z, it starts with a high action chase scene/kung fu fight, then it trys to be creepy and then into an Aliens style gun fest. On top of that they randomly added zombies and aliens! Frankly that new Burger King ad with the guy in the Burger King costume is much more frightening, I'd be scared if I woke up with that staring at me. What's worse was that myself and a friend were selected for a focus group. If you ever thought that a focus group was for making a flawed film better, flush that notion down the toilet, when they found out that we rated the film poor we were not allowed to take part in the focus group, the screening people then ran franticly around trying to find anyone who thought this movie was anything above fair. On a lighter note Uwe Boll was in attendance, while we were waiting for my friends ride he exited the theater where we thanked him for that "piece of crap film" and for "killing our childhood". [...]

[19.09.2004] Bei M&C Movies gibt es ein Interview mit Uwe Boll...
JW: OK a bit about Alone in the Dark, what's happening with that?
UB: We are now finished, I got the print yesterday. My first time to see the final movie basically. We showed it to some major companies this week (a load of horses start making a racket). But because I am here shooting BloodRayne I have not been able to go to Toronto or Venice for the festivals. The movie will definitely go out in the theatres in the USA February next year, we have also sold it to various other territories, so it will come out across Europe in the spring, summer and fall of next year. I am not sure who the US distributor will be yet. The thing is its all in the details. I cannot sign where I get the credit but no money. I want a contract where I can get some money back. [...]

Uwe Boll: Im April.

Uwe Boll: Juni sind wir fertig. Die CGI ist sehr aufwendig.

[03.08.2003] Bei IGN FilmForce gibt es Infos zur Eröffnungssequenz... Vorsicht SPOILER !!!
[...] source close to the production tells IGN FilmForce that the film begins with a young boy, around 10, being chased through a forest at night - pursued by a creature of unknown origin. Terrified, the boy runs towards a bright light in the forest... the creature stops in its tracks.
Flash-forward a few hours... police officers are shining their flashlights around in the forest... searching. Cut to a nearby orphanage where we witness a conversation between two police officers revealing that all twenty children from the home have gone missing. One of the nuns that works there tells them, "After the power went out, I went to check on the children. But their beds were empty. Every one of them. They just disappeared..."
An officer searches the nearby woods and discovers an electrical service shed with a bright light over the entrance. Inside he finds the young boy crouching in the corner and approaches... "Are you okay, son? Are the others around?" The boy answers, "I don't know. I don't remember." "Why don't we start with your name?," asks the deputy. "Do you remember your name?" "Edward," he says. "Edward Carnby."
Needless to say, the rest of the film takes place roughly twenty years in the future, but this flashback scene seems to set up the story. [...]

[01.07.2003] Hollywood Reporter meldet...
Christian Slater has been tapped to star as supernatural detective Edward Carnby in Artisan Entertainment's "Alone in the Dark," a movie based on the video game franchise. With filming in Vancouver scheduled to begin July 14 and run through Aug. 2, the $20 million film will bow next year in conjunction with a new video game from Atari (formerly Infogrames), the fifth in the best-selling game franchise. Producer Uwe Boll of Boll KG Entertainment, who directed the video game-to-movie "House of the Dead," which bows in the fall via Artisan, also will helm "Alone in the Dark." Shawn Williamson ("House of the Dead," "Try Seventeen") of Vancouver-based Brightlight Pictures will also produce.

[07.06.2003] FilmJerk weiss mehr über den Plot...
The film adaptation of the best-selling videogame "Alone in the Dark" looks to be limping to principal photography, missing the first-announced shooting date of May and now scrambling to fill the two lead roles before filming is scheduled to begins in approximately 30 days.
While it was already known that the protagonist of the game series, Edward Carnby, would be the focus of this $20-million budgeted film, many will be surprised to find that his co-star is Aline Cedrac. She was introduced in the latest installment of the game series... with what looks to be some major character tweaks.
In the film, evil demons from an ancient culture threaten to take over the world. Carnby is described in the casting notes as a "burned-out ex-agent" in his early 30s. Formerly with Bureau 713, which investigates paranormal phenomena, the impassioned scientist has been researching the Abskani culture and mythology for many years and is convinced that there is a war afoot between humanity and a host of evil spirits. For a brief second, he locks glances with the leader of the spirits known as The Queen and his brain is now being slowly overpowered by the forces of darkness.
In an effort to save himself and the world, he teams up with his old girlfriend, Cedrac. She is described as "an extremely bright young woman, fashionably dressed with her hair tied up in a ponytail." Refreshingly honest with a quick wit, she is angry that Carnby disappeared from her life, rarely communicating for more than two years. However, she nonetheless, instinctively trusts him, and listens raptly as he tells her about his efforts to locate the Abskani King and Queen. As one of the few people alive who speaks Abskani, Cedrac comes up with an ingenious way to foil The Queen, who is searching for a new host.
Doesn’t sound like this will be vying for any Oscar awards, but perhaps a Golden Raspberry. The producers are looking for international star names for the project only. To be filmed in Vancouver, the movie hopes to begin shooting on July 7 and wrap 50 days later on August 25.
From what is described here in the casting notes, the character of Carnby in the film seems to be true to the videogames’ roots. The character of Cedrac, introduced in the 2001 game "Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare," seems to be reshaped a bit, as the two do not have a pre-existing relationship in the game. She is described on the videogame’s site as a "brilliant student, earning her Ph.D. at age 24 thanks to her phenomenal memory, extraordinary intuition and above-average capacity for work." In the game, the two do not have a pre-existing relationship. [...]

[19.12.2002] CS! meldet...
The Hollywood Reporter says French video game publisher Infogrames has sold theatrical film rights for Alone in the Dark, its horror-adventure video game franchise, to Dritte/Vierte Boll Kino Beteiligungs-GmbH & Co. KG (Boll Kino).
The deal includes video, DVD, cable, TV and pay-per-view rights to the movie. Infogrames retained the rights for a possible TV series based on the game franchise.
Shawn Williamson (House of the Dead) of Brightlight Pictures will produce, and Uwe Boll will produce and direct. Boll's first video game feature, Sega's House of the Dead with Mindfire Entertainment, recently wrapped and will premiere Feb. 14 at the San Francisco Film Festival.

[18.12.2002] Gamers.com meldet...
Infogrames has announced that it has sold the worldwide feature film rights (which include TV, DVD etc) of Alone In The Dark to a German production company Boll Kino (well, that's the firm's abbreviated name -- the full name is too hard to pronounce for any non-German citizens). The head of the company is Uwe Boll, a famous German director and producer who currently is also working on the House of the Dead movie for next summer. Principal photography for the Alone In The Dark film is scheduled to begin in Vancounver, Canada, in the spring of 2003, with Dr.Uwe Boll taking the directing and producing duties. "This game provides an incredible opportunity to produce an exciting feature film and we look forward to capturing the unique and frightening qualities of Alone in the Dark," said Boll. This is where things start to get interesting, though. Boll Kino has also mentioned a number of other projects that are currently being evaluated for full-scale feature film production. And, according to our sources, the scripts for some of these movies are in their final stages. The hottest project is Syphon Filter. Yes, you read it right -- the team behind the upcoming House Of The Dead movie is evaluating the possibility of creating a movie based on Sony's highly successful Syphon Filter series, which will soon see a PS2 installment.
But Syphon Filter isn't the only other interesting project in the pipeline. The German film production company is also working closely with Mindfire, a company in Los Angeles who are currently hard at work on the preparations of a Dead Or Alive movie. Even a sequel to the upcoming House Of The Dead movie is already in preparation, though whether it ever gets made hinges largely on whether the first film does well.
Still, it looks as if Hollywood -- or in this case, a German production company -- is looking towards video games for source material now more than ever.

The New Nightmare" stark ähnelt...
