"Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins") ist ein Controller, der einen solchen Avatar per Gedankenkontrolle fernsteuert...

The Wall Street Journal sprach mit James Cameron... [...] "We’ll do the Blu-ray and the standard def DVD April 22nd, that’s our plan as of right now, and that’ll be pretty much bare bones. And then we’ll do a value-added DVD and a 3-D Blu-ray in I think November sometime."
Fox Home Entertainment couldn’t confirm the release dates.
[UPDATE: A spokesman for Fox Home Entertainment said on Thursday night that the "3-D is in the conceptual stage and 'Avatar' will not be out on 3-D Blu-ray in November."]
Cameron said he hopes to do a sequel to "Avatar" but he wants to do it "cheaper and faster." He said the sequel will be "a continuation of the same characters. We’re going to widen the universe in quotes, meaning the envelope of the setting of the story." [...]
The director has said he wants to try to shine a light on environmental issues by playing up the green aspects of "Avatar." "We’re not going to bequeath to our children a world that’s a sustainable world at the rate that we’re going," he said. "It’s gonna take a fundamental reboot of the way we view our relationship with the natural world and each other and with business and with the economy - that indefinite growth is not a good thing." [...] The weird thing about working with Jim is you become so submerged, so to speak, in the world, you become so obsessed with it, and this is going to sound really silly, part of you can't imagine that everybody else will not be as obsessed as you are with it when they finally get to see it. Part of you is like, "Oh my God, this is the most wonderful world to visit," I mean, to a point where it gets to your detriment where you're watching the four-hour cut and you're like, "This is great!" You're thinking, "I want to stay here for four hours!" which is not really realistic. Simultaneously, part of you is thinking, "I feel this way because I'm too close. I'm too close, I'm too close, I'm too close. I'm too invested in every little detail. I care too much about the characters." I think the only person who doesn't second guess himself is Jim. Jim is the one who frankly can keep the boat on course while everyone around him... you follow him like the General that he is, because you believe in him. I would be truthful in saying that I believed in Jim more than I believed in the movie, just because he's a very inspirational figure and person for me. But I'd be lying if I didn't say that I was totally obsessed and will continue to be obsessed with that damn planet." [...]

CS! sprach mit James Cameron... ComingSoon.net: When you started writing the script for "Avatar" 15 years ago, did you have a vision for where the sequels would go?
James Cameron: No, but a lot of ideas for the sequels kind of evolved out of writing the story for "Avatar." Anything that we designed, ideas that we had, if we couldn't figure out how to put them in the movie we said "We'll stick it in the sequel," so we have a big backlog of ideas.
CS: How many sequels will there be?
Cameron: I don't know.
CS: Do you know where the story is going for the next film?
Cameron: Yeah, I definitely have a story arc in mind for the second film and even on a very vague base for a third film. That doesn't mean we'll do a third film - it doesn't mean we'll stop at a third film. We'll just have to see where it goes.
CS: Will the sequel be the next movie you do or will it be another project?
Cameron: That hasn't been decided yet.

THR.com meldet... News Corp. is in very early talks with James Cameron about a possible "Avatar" sequel.
Asked about potential "Avatar" sequels, chairman and CEO Rupert Murdoch said on his quarterly earnings call Tuesday that the conglomerate is in "very early talks about it." Director James Cameron "has ideas" for a sequel, he said, adding: "We will be pushing for one."
But he cautioned analysts not to "hold your breath for an early one" in a possible reference to Cameron projects often taking a long time to come to fruition.
News Corp. deputy chairman, president and COO Chase Carey interjected that both sides want to make another movie. "We certainly both intend to have one," he said.
The executives said financing of a sequel like of any movies these days would be key as News Corp. likes to lay off risk, especially since Cameron films tend to go over budget. But given the success of "Avatar," financing details could come together.
Management also said 60% or more of the profit from "Avatar" will come in over the next two quarters, adding the firm will continue its theater run as the boxoffice goes well, with a DVD release also planned soon after the theatrical run. A DVD release date hasn't been announced so far.
Pushed further on details about the DVD plans for "Avatar," Murdoch said it will be released during his company's current fiscal year, which ends June 30. But he also highlighted that it won't be a 3D DVD release as that technology isn't developed enough yet. But Carey added there could be a 3D "Avatar" DVD release further "down the road" when the technology is ready.

Variety.com berichtet über die Einspielergebnisse... [...] Entering its seventh frame at the domestic box office, 20th Century Fox's "Avatar" again proved its staying power, taking in an estimated $30 million. James Cameron's pic easily surpassed the No. 2 film, Warner Bros.' Mel Gibson starrer "Edge of Darkness," which opened with $17.1 million.
"Avatar's" domestic intake has reached $594.5 million, combined with $1.45 billion internationally, for a worldwide cume that has passed the $2 billion mark.
Last weekend, the film passed "Titanic" in foreign revenues. "Avatar" became the all-time highest grosser worldwide as of Jan. 25, leaving only the domestic figure to beat. Cameron's 3D phenom still remains just a few strokes behind the $600.8 million domestic benchmark set by "Titanic" in 1998, but given last week's daily average of $3.18 million, Fox said the pic should beat "Titanic" some time midweek. CS! berichtet über die US-Einspielergebnisse... [...] It has now been seven weeks since James Cameron's Avatar began its unstoppable run of the box office, not allowing a single other movie to supplant its placement at the top of the heap. That continued unabated as the FX-heavy sci-fi fantasy epic added another estimated $30 million to its haul, down just 14% from last weekend. It has grossed nearly $594 million domestically with its international gross having crossed the $2 billion mark over the weekend. Having already taken the international gross crown away from Titanic last week, it's edging closer to the $600 million grossed by Cameron's previous movie, which has been resting atop the domestic gross record book unhindered for 12 years. Avatar should pass it on Monday or Tuesday and the question now is where will its final box office tally end up, being that it's likely to remain in IMAX and 3D theaters for at least another month? Active on approximately 11,800 screens in 111 markets, the film grossed more than $100m for the sixth consecutive weekend and is already ahead of Titanic’s $1.242bn international mark by $46m.

In another spectacular result in China it added $11.7m from 1,013 screens to cross $100m there, despite losing 1,500 2D screens last week to Confucius. The running total stands at an extraordinary $102.3m after three weeks.
In its second weekend in Italy Avatar added $13.6m for $37.8m. With France already on $123m, several other territories are closing in on the $100m mark: Avatar generated a further $8.9m in Germany for $95.7m, $8m in the UK for $92.9m, and $3.9m in Russia for $95.4m.

Avatar’s box office in Brazil stands at $39.2m and Mexico has reached $35.5m and it is the third biggest and second biggest films of all time, respectively.
In a statement Fox International co-presidents, Paul Hanneman and Tomas Jegeus said, "Having been a part of the Titanic phenomenon, we never thought this day would come in our careers. But James Cameron created in Avatar a film with such humanity and magic that it reasonates with people of every culture.
"We want to thank the Fox International team around the world who believed in the film and worked tirelessly for the past several years to maximise its potential. We also want to thank the international exhibition community which caught the 3D bug after the success of Ice Age 3 and worked hard to bring this groundbreaking experience to to audiences everywhere." [...] James Cameron's Avatar will soon sink Titanic's global record of $1.843 billion, as the 20th Century Fox release earned yet another $54.6 million domestically over the four-day holiday weekend, claiming first place for a fifth weekend in a row. The film has reached $505.1 million in North America and passed up the $500 million mark in just 32 days, a new record. That record was held by The Dark Knight, which reached the mark in 45 days, and Avatar is expected to surpass the The Dark Knight in total domestic box office ($533.3 million) as well next weekend to become the second-biggest title of all time behind Cameron's own Titanic ($600.8 million). Avatar also set a new record for the biggest fifth weekend ever domestically, beating Titanic's $30 million by earning $41.3 million over the Friday-to-Sunday frame.

CS! meldet... James Cameron's unstoppable Avatar is entering its fifth weekend with more dominant ticket sales. Fandango tells us that 80% of its ticket sales for Avatar have been for the 3D and IMAX screenings and for the fifth weekend, 73% of its advanced ticket sales are for Avatar, followed by The Book of Eli with 7% and The Lovely Bones with 5%.
Worldwide, the film has earned $1.42 billion and has just passed up Shrek 2's $441.2 million to climb to the fourth spot on the all-time domestic list with $445.7 million. It only trails Star Wars ($460.9 million), The Dark Knight ($533.3 million) and Titanic ($600.8 million) now.
In sequel news, James Cameron told Entertainment Weekly that he was even planning a sequel during production. "I've had a storyline in mind from the start - there are even scenes in 'Avatar' that I kept in because they lead to the sequel," Cameron said. "It just makes sense to think of it as a two or three film arc, in terms of the business plan. The CG plants and trees and creatures and the musculo-skeletal rigging of the main characters - that all takes an enormous amount of time to create. It'd be a waste not to use it again."

CS! meldet... [...] James Cameron's juggernaut Avatar dominated the box office again its fourth weekend, adding $48.5 million domestically and $143 million internationally! Domestically, it broke the record for the biggest fourth weekend ever for a movie, surpassing Cameron's own Titanic, which earned $28.7 million its fourth weekend. The North American total has climbed to $429 million, allowing the film to pass up Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest's $423.3 million to become the seventh-biggest movie of all time domestically. We think it has a good chance of beating The Dark Knight's domestic take of $533 million now, but will it reach Titanic's $600.8 million?
Overseas, the blockbuster has reached a massive $906.2 million to take its worldwide total to a whopping $1.335 billion! It only trails Titanic's $1.843 billion, a number that doesn't seem impossible with how much Avatar has been earning on a worldwide basis every day. [...]

IMAX Corporation and Twentieth Century Fox today announced that James Cameron's Avatar continued its record-breaking box office run during its second weekend, grossing approximately $8.8 million from 179 IMAX theaters domestically from December 25 through December 27, 2009, registering approximately 12% of the film's total domestic gross of $75.6 million on less than 3% of the screens. IMAX theaters continued to operate at virtually full capacity all weekend, driving the domestic IMAX box office to date to approximately $28 million.
The IMAX international release posted an estimated total of approximately $3.6 million from 70 IMAX screens during the weekend, with the IMAX network in Poland and Japan posting record openings. The film is still scheduled to open on 11 IMAX screens in China and one in Argentina in the coming weeks. The worldwide IMAX box office total is more than $39 million as of the end of day Sunday, December 27, 2009.
Avatar has been digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of "The IMAX Experience."
"Consumers are clearly seeking out IMAX as the way to experience James Cameron's latest blockbuster, and this weekend's results reinforce how well this groundbreaking film plays to our audience," said IMAX CEO Richard L. Gelfond. "'Avatar' is well on its way to becoming our highest grossing Hollywood IMAX title."
"To have reached $39 million from 249 screens in just 10 days demonstrates that moviegoers clearly understand the value of experiencing 'Avatar' in IMAX," added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. "James Cameron, Jon Landau and Lightstorm realized the vision of this film in IMAX, and we're continuing to see the incredibly positive way that moviegoers are responding to that vision."

Bei Slashfilm.com gibt es die bislang bekannten Infos zu den möglichen "Avatar"-Sequels !!! CS! berichtet über die US-Kinocharts und die internationalen Einspielergebnisse... [...] This was a banner Christmas weekend, ending a year where the box office was generally up from last year with not only the biggest Christmas weekend ever, but a historic record-setting weekend with the Top 4 grossing more than $200 million on their own, and the Top 10 grossing $260 million, up nearly $100 million (!) from Christmas weekend last year.
Much of that record can be accounted for by three movies and leading the way was James Cameron's unstoppable sci-fi epic Avatar (20th Century Fox), which once again took first place with an estimated $75 million over the three days to set a new Christmas weekend record. The previous record holder was Meet the Fockers with $46.1 million in 2005. Down less than 3% from its opening weekend, Avatar also holds claim to the second-biggest second weekend ever for a movie ever, right after last year's gigantic blockbuster hit The Dark Knight. Having grossed $212 million in ten days--the seventh movie to cross $200 million and currently the seventh highest grossing movie of the year--Avatar is clearly on its way to top $300 million. The question is whether it can pass the $402 million made by Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to take over the top spot as the highest-grossing movie of 2009. By comparison, The Dark Knight had grossed $100 million more than Avatar after ten days, so Cameron has a long way to go if he wants his new movie to take its rightful place behind his previous dramatic feature Titanic as the second-highest grossing movie domestically of all time.
Internationally, Avatar added $145 million this weekend to push its overseas total to $405 million and worldwide total to an amazing $617.3 million after just 10 days in release. [...]
