[14.12.2005] Constantin Film meldet...

[...] There are some things to like about the film. Mickey Rourke’s recent resurgence continues full-force, even if he’s not given anything to do. It’s nice to see Dabney Coleman show up for about three minutes. I was also very impressed with Edgar Ramirez, who plays Choco, a bounty hunter who works with Rourke and Domino. He’s a commanding screen presence, charismatic and physical, and I’ll be we see more of him in the future. There’s one very funny scene involving Mo’Nique on the JERRY SPRINGER show. There’s one great act of violence, but the scene’s marred by a music cue that’s just a little too RESERVOIR DOGS for its own good. And then there’s the opening title sequence, one of the coolest of the year. But that’s about it. That’s all I could find to hold on to in two hours of headache-inducing hysteria. DOMINO is a baffling mess, a movie that means to thrill but which ends up as one of the most depressing, empty exercises of the year. [...]

[13.10.2005] Bei AICN gibt es eine weitere Kritik...
[...] In Harry’s review, he called Domino a Keira Knightley exploitation flick. I beg to differ. It’s we, the audience, who are being exploited. Domino is a total hoodwink. You might even walk out of the theater saying positive things, but let it sit for a while. You won’t remember it. It is an utterly forgettable film experience. A movie that could’ve been so much more, if Scott had paid attention to the old saying, "less is more." [...]

[12.10.2005] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Harry Knowles...
[...] Whether you’re going shooting shotguns afterwards or not, this film is fun. At its heart, the film is essentially a Keira Knightley exploitation film. It features her doing a lap dance, doing the naked wild thing in the desert, shooting shotguns, blowing shit up, talking tough and taking names! Now, it doesn’t go absolutely wacko like those awesome through the roof rough films of Pam Grier... this is more polished, bigger budgeted, better cast exploitation. This is an old fashioned NEW LINE film, like the ones that made the company, only with a 21st Century polish and I really really dig that. [...]

[04.10.2005] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Massawyrm...
[...] While many will accuse this film of being one of the most overly stylized of all time, when all is said and done, the overly stylized nature of it is inherent to the story itself. It is overly stylized by design. It’s a fever dream told by someone who’s just beginning to get all the facts straight herself. But at the same time it is Scott acknowledging his own career and having as much fun with himself as he has with the life of Domino Harvey and the actors satirizing themselves. For those that look closely, drink in every moment and dissect every line and happenstance, Domino proves to be a treat to enjoy long after you walk out of the theatre. [...]

[30.06.2005] CS! meldet...
Domino Harvey, the inspiration for New Line's upcoming film Domino, died in her Los Angeles home on the evening of June 27. Harvey was the daughter of legendary actor Laurence Harvey and a former model who rejected her privileged Beverly Hills life to become a bounty hunter.
"Domino never failed to surprise or inspire me over the last 12 years. She was a free spirit like no other I have ever known," said director Tony Scott.
"We were enormously saddened to hear of Domino's untimely passing. She and I had been conferring about her music to be used in the film only weeks ago. I know I speak for all of us on the movie's cast and crew when I say how much we enjoyed her presence on set when she visited. And although our film is not intended as a biographical piece, hers was the dynamic personality and indomitable spirit that spawned an exciting adventure, not just on screen, but in real life," producer Samuel Hadida added.
New Line had moved Domino from August to November, but the studio has returned the action-thriller to August 19 in order to avoid going up against Universal's Pride and Prejudice, also starring Knightley, and because Knightley will be available at that time to promote the film between shooting the "Pirates of the Caribbean" sequels.
Domino features a diverse ensemble cast including Mickey Rourke, Edgar Ramirez, Delroy Lindo, Mena Suvari, Lucy Liu, Christopher Walken, Jacqueline Bisset, Mo'Nique and Macy Gray.

THE bounty hunter who inspired Keira Knightley's new movie was in jail yesterday over alleged links to a drug bust.
English-born ex-model Domino Harvey was held after FBI agents seized amphetamines worth more than £1million.
Her life story has been turned into a £30million movie, Domino, starring Knightley, 20, and scheduled for a summer release.
Harvey, 35, who quit modelling and acting to hunt criminals in Los Angeles, is in jail alongside hardened crooks.
She was charged this month with conspiracy to distribute drugs, possession, trafficking and racketeering. She may be sent to Mississippi for trial.
Harvey is the daughter of actor Laurence Harvey and 60s cover girl Paulene Stone. Knightley met Domino while preparing to play her and said: "She's amazing. Just incredible."
The US Attorney's office in Los Angeles said: "Domino Harvey has been criminally charged."
Harvey has not yet entered a plea.

[...] In the focus group held afterwards, most people ranked it above average. No poors or fairs to be seen. Adjectives used to describe it included "Trippy, original, like Pulp Fiction, confusing, explosive." I gauged that most people really appeared to enjoy the movie, though I also noticed that the hyperkinetic and convoluted nature of the plot threw a lot of people. [...]

[13.02.2003] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik zum Drehbuch von Harry Knowles...
[...] The script is... um... BASED on a true story. You see, once upon a time there was an actor named Laurence Harvey - he played the guy that Denzel Washington’s character has to stop in the remake of the original MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE. Anyway, this Laurence Harvey character married a woman named Paulene Stone - a fashion model of the sixties that produced Laurence Harvey’s only child... DOMINO HARVEY. She was raised a Catholic School Girl. She was supposed to be part of that whole BEVERLY HILLS 90210 scene... not the show, but the lifestyle. She had access to the parties and the glamour and the drugs and the fun. She found only emptiness there. She preferred the Sex Pistols type of crowd. But even there.. even there she was a bit more hardcore. She ceased to be a Model and a socialite and became a Los Angeles Bounty Hunter. A really badass one. [...]
This is a script filled with great characters... From the Blacktino woman that wants America to recognize various racial sub-groups as their own types to well hell, I’m not good enough to describe them all... This thing is chock full of sex addicts, crazies, gangsters, mafiosos, producers, agents, lawyers, frat brothers, rockers and rollers, and on and on and on. Each vividly drawn and sketched by Kelly’s letters.
I’m just anxious. I haven’t been this excited about a Tony Scott project in years, and that’s a shame. He’s got gold sitting on his desk, can’t wait to see it made.
