"He-Man")).
Ausserdem wirken mit: Mickey Rourke (u.a. "Sin City"),
Bruce Willis (u.a. "Stirb Langsam"),
Arnold Schwarzenegger (u.a. "Terminator") und
Eric Roberts !!!

In what is proving to be a big day for ensemble action team-ups, Arnold Schwarzenegger has tweeted the below image of himself, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis on the set of the now-filming The Expendables 2, along with the following message:
"Back in action for The Expendables 2! I'm having a fantastic time on set with Bruce and Sly in Bulgaria."
Last month it was confirmed that Schwarzenegger and Willis would be returning in expanded "substantial" roles.
Set to be directed by Simon West, the follow-up to the 2010 hit will also star Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Liam Hemsworth and more.
Liam Hemsworth is the latest name to join the cast of The Expendables 2, Variety reports. There's no word on his role quite yet, but he marks a surprisingly youthful addition to the cast of seasoned action stars, already slated to include Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Co-written and directed by Stallone, the original Expendables also starred Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, David Zayas, Giselle Itie, Charisma Carpenter, Gary Daniels, Terry Crews and Mickey Rourke. Who among those that may be returning for the second film (this time directed by Simon West) has yet to be confirmed, though newcomers Nicolas Cage and John Travolta are also said to be in talks. [...]
Last week, it was announced that Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger would return for The Expendables 2 with expanded roles. Now, Sylvester Stallone confirms to EW that the long-rumored casting of Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme is also true. What's more, the Face/Off pair of Nicolas Cage and John Travolta may be getting into the action as well.
"We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme," Stallone told the outlet, "which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one."
Co-written and directed by Stallone, the original Expendables also starred Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, David Zayas, Giselle Itie, Charisma Carpenter, Gary Daniels, Terry Crews and Mickey Rourke. For the second go-round, Simon West will be handling directing duties.
With production beginning next month in Bulgaria, Stallone is still finalizing plans about who will appear, though he hints that Cage is close to a lock and Travolta is bit more uncertain.
"It’s possible," he said of the unconfirmed casting, "The one thing I’ve learned is what is a fact on Monday is a complete fallacy on Tuesday. A lot of it is scheduling. It’s not financial. It’s just that Bulgaria is definitely a jaunt. It’s a commitment, you know what I mean? Especially in the dead of winter." [...]
After The Expendables turned in a surprisingly strong $275 million worldwide gross, many have wondered what they would do for an encore. How’s this? Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis have just closed deals to take "substantial" roles in The Expendables 2, alongside Sylvester Stallone. This has been rumored as possible, and it basically answers the hopes of a lot of fans who weren’t satisfied when action icons Schwarzenegger and Willis turned in cameos in the original, and poked fun at the days when they were the world’s top action stars. Stallone directed the first one but stepped out and the job went to Simon West. Filming will begin in October, and Lionsgate will once again release the Millennium Films-produced actioner. Schwarzenegger and Willis are repped by CAA. Schwarzenegger is already working for Lionsgate in the Jee-Won Kim-directed action film Last Stand. Willis will squeeze in the role before going off to Russia to reprise his John McLane role in Die Hard 5, which just landed John Moore as director at Fox, and then he will make a sequel to Red. Aside from Stallone, original cast members Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews and Jet Li are expected to return, and there is buzz about Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme. [...]
The Expendables 2 production is in talks with a Chinese distributor to come on board as a producer, which would lead to scenes being shot in China as long as a local actor is cast, reports Variety.
Donnie Yen has been offered a role in the sequel if the deal goes through, which would make it easier for the film to be released in China.
The trade adds that the first day of filming for The Expendables 2 is September 19 at Nu Boyana Studios in Bulgaria.
Simon West will direct and Sylvester Stallone is starring in the movie, scheduled for a release on August 17, 2012. Other cast members have not yet been confirmed.
Made for $80 million, the first film earned $274.5 million at the worldwide box office.
According to Hong Kong newspapers, while Donnie Yen and his family were on holidays in the US recently, he was invited to dinner by producer Avi Lerner. Reportedly, Lerner has offered Yen a 'tailor-made' role in the upcoming sequel to THE EXPENDABLES, which is due to commence shooting in October.
A spokesperson from Yen's company confirmed that there was in fact an offer, and went on to say that Yen may be interested in THE EXPENDABLES, but because he currently has a number of projects to choose from, he will not decide until he sees if the script appeals to him or not. [...]
After a long search, Simon West is the choice to direct The Expendables 2, the sequel to the 2010 surprise hit action film. West, who most recently directed the CBS Films remake of The Mechanic with Jason Statham and Ben Foster, also directed Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and The General's Daughter. Production begins in the summer.
The sequel is expected to have back an original cast that includes Sylvester Stallone, Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews and Jet Li. Stallone directed the original, which grossed $275 million worldwide, $103 million domestic. [...]
Bei FirstShowing.net gibt es ein Teaser-Poster zu "The Expendables 2"...
Bei 24 Frames gibt es den letzten Stand in Sachen Sequel...
[...] The follow-up movie is a priority at producer Millennium Films, where it's being developed by Stallone, the creative force behind the original. But Stallone, who both starred in and directed the 2010 summer hit, isn't, at the moment, planning on helming the new movie. Instead, he's been meeting with directors to tackle the sequel, said a person who was briefed on the project but was not authorized to speak about it publicly.
The script for the new movie has been written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman, the latter of whom counts the Clint Eastwood adventure "Space Cowboys" and family comedy "Curious George" among his credits, said the source. (Stallone co-wrote the script for the original with David Callaham.)
A spokeswoman for Millennium declined to comment.
Made essentially outside the studio system and distributed by Lionsgate, "The Expendables" became a $275-million global grosser on the strength of an action-hero ensemble cast that included Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren and Steve Austin. In the movie, a motley crew of action heroes gather to overthrow a South American despot. There's no word yet on the mission in the new movie.
Stallone has been talking about an "Expendables" sequel since before the first movie opened, telling 24 Frames last August that he "had an idea ready to go," and adding that he's "going to try to do something that's quite radical." He's subsequently said he'd like to dial in new characters and reduce the role of older characters.
Some of the casting speculation for a possible sequel has centered on Bruce Willis getting a larger role, fueled by Stallone's tweet last summer that he wanted the actor as a "super villain." But maybe more intriguing is the prospect of Arnold Schwarzenegger making an appearance: The former governor had a walk-on part in the first "Expendables." But he has a lot more time now that Sacramento has made him, well, you know.
Collider sprach mit Jason Statham...
[...] while we are probably not going to get another sequel to Crank, Statham sounded very confident that The Expendables 2 is going to move forward much sooner than many thought. When I asked him what he’s getting ready to film this year, he told me this is the first time he has nothing scheduled in years. I then asked if Expendables 2 is what he was waiting on. He said yes.
While I was unsure that The Expendables 2 would move forward that fast, Statham said, "I’m very positive that it will be going."
Of course, who really knows what’s up with The Expendables 2, but with Statham one of the stars of the franchise, since he hasn’t booked another gig, perhaps the movie is going to be filming much sooner than we all thought. [...]
After a day of passionate political debate with his Twitter followers, Sylvester Stallone is back talking about our preferred subject: the sequel to The Expendables. "Good day to say that the new story line for next Expendables is taking shape - many twists that i’ve yet to figure out yet - JCVD possibility!" he tweeted early this morning. Really, what better way for Jean-Claude Van Damme to prove his ticker is fine than by joining this muscle parade. Stallone appears hopeful: "How bout JCVD being the baddest of the bad? Painful and fun choice for the one who gets to do battle with him..," he tweeted. When a fan joked that Ryan Seacrest should join the cast, Stallone responded, "Over that," but said his buddy Charlie Sheen would be a strong choice - and that he almost had him in the first film, but his wife "birthed." (Did we know Stallone and Sheen were friends? On Nov. 1, Stallone tweeted that he spent Halloween on a double-date with Bruce Willis, then he stopped by Sheen’s place and talked awhile before heading home. "Charlie looks absolutely like you see him on TV ... Maybe better," Stallone reported.) If Sheen is healthy, I’d enjoy seeing him trade barbs with Stallone, Jason Statham, and fingers crossed, Bruce Willis.
Stallone definitely has casting on the brain: "The Rock could eventually replace me after having been drafted into the EXPENDABLES Along with new young blood. Suggestions?" I’m all for Dwayne Johnson being the heir apparent - he’s got the body and the charisma. (And seriously, how great would they look together?) Other suggestions offered by fans:
Michael Jai White: Stallone said he tried to get the Spawn, Universal Soldier: The Return, and Exit Wounds star for the first film, but he didn’t want to audition.
Scott Adkins: Stallone said he tried to get White’s Undisputed II: Last Man Standing costar to play The Brit in the first film, but when it didn’t work out, he replaced him with Gary Daniels.
A female: Stallone said, "But would you really buy it or see it only as a gimmick?"
No one: After a 24-year-old fan suggested no young blood could hold a candle to Stallone’s crew, he said, "It’s not easy to find new bad asses that can act, but I believe the younger audiences want to be represented, right?"
Randy Orton and John Cena: Stallone’s response to the WWE wrestlers: "POWERFUL WARRIORS, I agree." [...]

CS! sprach mit dem Produzenten Basil Iwanyk, u.a. über das Sequel...
[...] When questioned as to what Sylvester Stallone may have planned for the sequel to the surprise summer hit The Expendables (which will probably be Lionsgate's second highest-grossing movie of all time very soon), we got a minor update. "I saw Avi Lerner this morning, who deserves all the credit for it," Iwanyk responded. "He really went on the line for the movie. He told me, 'We're doing a sequel, we're doing it right away.' I haven't talked to Sly at all about what's going to happen in the sequel. It's going to rock and you can just imagine in your head who will be in that cast in addition to the people who are there now. But I'm not sure. There's a lot of excitement and I know that Avi and Sly want to go at it as soon as possible."
"The thing about 'The Expendables' for us was that it was a movie we had at Warner Bros., and it was a dead project," he said about the background for the hit action film. "We had a lunch with Sly's agent and he said, 'Sly needs to go to work,' so we sent him and he turned it into 'The Expendables."
CS! berichtet über die US-Kinocharts...
[...] After holding the top spot for two weeks in a row, Sylvester Stallone's ensemble action flick The Expendables (Lionsgate) dropped to third place with $9.5 million and $82 million grossed after three weeks. Stallone has already been talking about developing a sequel and with that sort of success--it's likely to become Lionsgate's second highest-grossing release by Labor Day--there's little doubt the distributor will back that plan. CS! berichtet über die US-Einspielergebnisse...
[...] The Dog Days of Summer are upon us, something made evident by the fact no movies made more than $16.5 million this weekend. That amount was made by Sylvester Stallone's ensemble action flick The Expendables (Lionsgate), which remained on top of the box office despite the release of five new movies in wide release that covered a wide range of moviegoers' needs. The Expendables dropped nearly 53% from its opening weekend, and having grossed just under $65 million in ten days, it's already Lionsgate's eighth-highest grossing movies with Tyler Perry and "Saw" movies and Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 being ahead of it. It certainly is aiming for the $90 million range made by Saw III and Madea Goes to Jail, putting Sly's movie in line to become Lionsgate's third highest-grossing movie. One can probably expect a sequel to be greenlit very soon if not already. [...]
THR sprach mit Stallone über ein mögliches Sequel...
THR: [...] Have you written a script for a sequel to 'The Expendables'?
Stallone: It's plotted out in my mind's eye. I believe this group has to continue to evolve; it just can't become the same people. So how do you get new people introduced into the group, and how do you have some of the other people leaving? Those are the challenges.
THR: So the challenges remain, eh?
Stallone: My proudest moment ever was not "Rocky," it was the last Rocky picture, "Rocky Balboa." To be able to meet the challenge of completing that series after all these years, that was great. But this one here tops that -- not in an emotional way but for excitement. This should have never happened. (Producer) Avi Lerner really took a big gamble on me with this when nobody else would. I know because I heard about it every day! He kept worrying about the reviews.
THR: 'The Expendables' was never going to be a critical darling.
Stallone: Most action films tend to rub people the wrong way. This is not to disparage critics, but the more physical and brutal an action film is, the least well it is received. It's actually a barometer I use. That, and how many times I hurt myself. [...]
Maybe movie stars aren't so expendable.
At a time when pricey talent is thought to yield diminishing returns for film studios, Lionsgate's star-studded "The Expendables" easily topped the weekend boxoffice with an estimated $35 million in domestic coin. The testosterone-spiked actioner outpaced an impressive $23.7 million bow by Sony's female-targeted Julia Roberts starrer "Eat Pray Love" in second place, while Universal's geek-seeking "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" debuted with a dismal $10.5 million in fifth place.
Produced by Nu Image/Millennium for more than $85 million, Sylvester Stallone-helmed "Expendables" features marquee tough guys Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren and Mickey Rourke, as well as Stallone. Lionsgate paid $20 million for U.S. and U.K. distribution rights and funded pic marketing, with Nu Image further shaving its exposure via robust foreign presales.
The rollicking, R-rated fight-fest drew opening audiences skewing 61% male, with 60% of patrons aged 25 or older. In an interview Sunday, Stallone told THR on that a sequel already is being discussed.
"Hopefully, the next time we'll have even more technical expertise and raise the bar further," Stallone said. "I love sequels. Rarely can you push all the buttons in the first movie."
Unspooling 34 years after Stallone muscled his way into the pantheon of bigscreen tough guys with "Rocky," "Expendables" marked the biggest bow ever by a Stallone-directed film. The multiphyphenate's previous personal best as a director came with the $18.2 million debut of 2008's "Rambo."
Lionsgate distribution boss David Spitz said the "legendary cast" of the film was clearly the biggest draw for "Expendables."
"We're ecstatic over the opening," Spitz said. "It came in, in our opinion, above expectations."
The pic's additional muscle-bound co-stars include three jocks-turned-thespians with acronym-dotted resumes: Terry Crews (NFL), Randy Couture (UFC) and Steve Austin (WWE), with Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger contributing cameos and Eric Roberts portraying the film's chief bad guy. The lone female co-star was Mexican TV actress Giselle Itie. [...]

You know what’s really disappointing? It’s not the plotting, or the acting, or the characterization. As an action fan, I can forgive those things their absence, if the action is done properly. Well, those things are sure as shit absent from this movie, and the action is bad. Not "okay," not 2serviceable." It’s bad. [...] After Arnold, Bruce and Sly went through the scene a couple of times they all 3 headed off to wardrobe and make-up. at 8:10am with three cameras rolling the biggest action icons of our time went to work. I thought it was electric in Brazil when all of The Expendables stepped on set - but today was atomic!!!! the whole crew was mesmerized as we watched the three of them play off of each other in a pivotal scene that sets up the whole movie. And while I can’t/don’t want to give too much away I can tell you that Arnold’s character is Trench and Bruce is Church, the scene was shot in an empty church without extras and minimal set dec and it has tension and humor - what more can a girl ask for! Sly was in top form as a director today and was in total command. Bruce and Arnold were consummate professionals at all times - we got through the scene quickly without compromise. In 6 hours we did wide shots, close-ups, turned around the whole nine yards - pretty impressive. Very Clint Eastwood. [...]

[...] I asked about the teaser that will prevue in Venice - it’s approximately 3 minutes long and according to Sly "kicks ass". I am dying to see it - hopefully I will get the chance before he leaves for the Festival. He still hasn’t given me permission to post it after it’s shown in Venice but I will keep trying. We also talked about the scene with Bruce, Arnold & Sly. One thing for certain - they will shoot it before the end of September. Sly is still kicking around some really cool ideas - I mean seriously people... having the three of them together in one frame is pretty freakin exciting... and there are high expectations. So he is hashing it out and I’m sure will come up with a scene worthy of the actors. We also talked about the hours and hours of behind the scenes footage director John Hertzfeld shot for a documentary on the making of The Expendables. This was a difficult shoot - Sly and I agree this was the most difficult movie we have ever worked on. From casting changes to logistical nightmares to injuries there was a lot going on. And John (along with several other shooters) captured it all on film - the good the bad and the very very ugly. I think it would be a great 5 parter on HBO or Showtime in addition to putting exclusive stuff on the DVD. We talked about the value of releasing some of it before the film comes out - I think that is a mistake. Once you see the film and then see it from a behind the scenes perspective I think it will have more impact. At any rate there’s a lot of good stuff and we my friends will benefit. [...]

Hollywood hardman SYLVESTER STALLONE can bank on a busy few years - movie bosses are already planning to turn his upcoming movie THE EXPENDABLES into a franchise.
The action man has lined up an all-star cast, including martial arts star Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Jason Statham and Eric Roberts, for the forthcoming film, which revolves around a group of mercenaries who set out to overthrow a South American dictator.
The movie has yet to even produce a trailer - but that's not stopped Millennium Films' studio executives from plotting sequels to the project.
Millennium Films' Avi Lerner says, "Definitely. We already have got some ideas about Expendables number two, number three. Definitely, it's a franchise movie."
Sandra Bullock is back in the spotlight this month, playing the evil boss to Ryan Reynolds loveable publishing assistant in The Proposal. But what Empire really wanted know at last night's gala screening at the Mayfair Hotel was whatever happened to her supposed role in Sylvester Stallone's uber-action-fest The Expendables. And it seems that Sandra wasn't muscle-bound enough to make Sly's crew, as she certainly didn't get the memo: "I don’t know where that came from. I never read the script, I didn’t even know what the script was about. But now that I know what it’s about, I’m excited for him." [...]

Church will be shot on the east coast or perhaps LA... that is still TBD. Church is male not female os we can end that speculation as well.
As for Arnold, if you go back to the first press stattement I made regarding Arnold’s participation you will note he was to play himself in a brief cameo that would be shot in LA. That has not changed although Sly has bantered about several scenarios for Arnold that make his character more meaningful to the story. Toll Road (new character) is Randy Couture
Monroe is Eric Roberts
Tool (an ex-Expendable) is Mickey Rourke
Bao is Jet Li
Lee Christmas is Jason Statham
Lacy is Charisma Carpenter
Sandra is Giselle Itie (famous Brazilian actress)
Barney 'the schizo' Ross is Yours Truly.
P.S.S. By the way, there's enough testosterone and ego in this film to float
a large continent covered in elephants, but I'm enjoying it. [...]
Please tell the loyal followers to be positive not negative in their feedback. I am not self-destructive. The anger of the casting of 50 Cent is understandable, but not fair. A player is only as good as his coach. If a man can communicate in one medium, he can communicate in another if his strengths
are brought out and he has the support of well-wishers. So, trust me, the
change of Forest Whitaker to 50 Cent AKA Curtis Jackson is a good one. No
one thought Dolph Lundgren was a good choice for ROCKY or Mr. T. Carl
Weathers was an afterthought when Ken Naughton fell out. The same with Talia
Shire and Richard Crenna, who was known as a comedic actor, not a serious
Nobody wanted Eric Roberts over Ben Kingsley, but I believe it's a vastly
improved casting. The point is, you either believe in me and the project,
setting your personal feelings aside, or you take a darker approach, which
really serves no purpose since your insight and suggestions and overall
enthusiasm are a great thrill for me to behold everyday I sign on. [...]
Bei AICN gibt es ein Video von Stallone beim Training...
[...] He's excited about Stone Cold Steve Austin being set as a baddie that's gonna beat the living hell out of Sly! He's also got John Herzfeld recording all the psychotic lunacy that's going into the making of this gargantuan monstrosity that's being spilled out of Stallone's noodle! While playing around with a bit of work out footage of Stallone hitting it real hard with weights - he decided that his buddies in Talkback deserved a look at how Stallone was getting chiseled. [..]
WWE alum "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Charisma Carpenter have been added to the cast of "The Expendables," starring, written and directed by Sylvester Stallone. Cast includes Mickey Rourke and Jason Statham.
Austin recently wrapped fight pic "Damage" and inked a TV development deal with Original Media and Caliber Media. Carpenter just completed horror pics "House of Bones" and "Vivid."
TAF sprach mit Arnold Schwarzenegger, u.a. über seine Rolle in "The Expendables"...
[...] So I... naturally when he asked me if I would do a cameo, which will just be something quick, like I walk out of a hotel or out of a office building and he will walk up and we will bump into each other and there will be some mumbling and then we will walk off (crowd laughs). So it will be something very simple, that will be again, just a cameo, so that's what we're going to do. I promised him I'd do that and I'm looking forward to that. Ok? Good. [...]
The Governator is ready for a Rambo summit. Arnold Schwarzenegger has agreed to make a cameo as his state-ruling self in Sylvester Stallone's latest testosterone-fest, The Expendables. The flick is set to begin shooting March 28 in Brazil and will then move to New Orleans for an additional two months of photography. Stallone, who wrote the script and will also star and direct, will shoot his good pal and former Planet Hollywood partner's cameo in Los Angeles. [...]
About a week ago, Sylvester Stallone has hinted that he got Arnold Schwarzenegger to make a cameo in his upcoming "The Expendables" film.
Now, Schwarzenegger has confirmed to ABC's George Stephanopoulos that he is more than happy to appear in the movie. "Since I've become governor I've done three cameos when friends ask me and Sly asked me if I would do a cameo," he explained. "I said of course I would help you do a cameo, there's no two ways about that."
Stephanopoulos also tried to find out what Schwarzenegger's plans are after his term as a Governor runs out. Unfortunately, Arnold is still in politician mode and thus gave a very politician-type answer. [...]
Harry von AICN meldet...
[...] Just got off the phone with... ahem "my source" ahem... who let me know that Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to be playing Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in THE EXPENDABLES. He will be shooting for one day, and it seems that the Gov and Sly's character Barney Ross have some history back when the Gov was shooting CONAN THE BARBARIAN!
Also - Ben Kingsley is out as the dirty bastard CIA sob, and Eric Roberts is in! Also, Mickey Rourke has finally signed on officially!
The production is a month out from shooting, and reportedly according to (ahem) my source (ahem), the script has been being beaten into shape by Stallone who has been struggling to nail the right tonal balance of humor, action and emotional reality. [...]
Jean-Claude Van Damme has spoken to totalfilm.com about why he turned down a part in Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables, claiming Stallone was just interested in pitching money and action.
"Stallone gave me a part in his next movie," he told us. "But I ask him about the subject, about the story."
"He said, ‘You’re gonna make lots of money.’ I don’t want to hear that, I want to hear what was my character. He was unable to tell what it’s going to be."
"[Stallone said:] 'You know, uh, well, the fighting will be good.' [So I said:] 'Sly, what is my character?' So I didn’t do the movie." [...]
Vern von AICN hat das Drehbuch gelesen, neben Details zum Plot und den Charakteren, verrät er folgendes...
[...] I wouldn't say THE EXPENDABLES is a great script necessarily, but it definitely has potential. He's got a good backbone that now needs some charismatic performances and well-executed action sequences on top. We know it has a good cast and that the action in RAMBO was pretty good. So I think this has a good shot. [...]
[...] So far, Sly has lined up Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker and Randy Couture for his tale of mercenaries on a mission to take down an evil dictator. Will he also be reuniting with his spunky (and still quite desirable) DEMOLITION MAN partner Sandra Bullock?
That's what we've heard from someone who's worked on several Stallone projects, including this one. And while it's not a "done deal", Sly is apparently indeed pursuing her for the project. Bullock would play a government agent (paired up with Whitaker) on the hunt for Stallone's crew of hired guns. [...]
Bei Moviehole gibt es mehrere Charakter-Beschreibungen und folgendes Fazit...
[...] It’s actually going to make a great movie, I believe, this one. It kicks off like "The Dirty Dozen" with Sly and Statham jet setting around to grab their team members - one owns a restaurant and bar; lots of good moments in his intro sequence - and ramps up the action as it progresses. The whole scenario’s like, say, "Clear and Present Danger" on acid.
[...] Stallone arrived in Brazil (Rio) yesterday, had lunch at a churrascaria (one of those meat places) and visited a favela. Tomorrow he’s coming to Sao Paulo, to visit some of the movie locations (there’s some talk about scenes here in the city and at the coast of Sao Paulo - the state, not the city). O2 Films, the same production company that made City of God and Blindness, is helping him and is in charge of the filming here. They expect to begin in March, right after carnival. SP is dubbing for a small Caribbean island east of Cuba ruled by a dictator. [...]
Sylvester Stallone is set to star in and helm "The Expendables" for Nu Image/Millennium Films.
Stallone, who also penned the script, will be joined onscreen by Jason Statham, while Jet Li is in final negotiations to join the actioner.
Pic follows a team of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator. Lensing starts in February in Costa Rica and Louisiana.
Producers are Avi Lerner, John Thompson and Kevin King Templeton. Boaz Davidson, Trevor Short and Danny Dimbort exec produce.
Stallone joined forces with Nu Image/Millennium on the latest "Rambo," which he also helmed and co-wrote.
