[14.04.2008] CS! liefert Details zur FF4-Story... Vorsicht SPOILER !!!
We've received the new plot summary for the newly-titled Fast and Furious, the Justin Lin-directed sequel starring Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, John Ortiz, Laz Alonso, Shea Whigham and Tego Calderon:
Vin Diesel and Paul Walker reteam for the ultimate chapter of the franchise built on speed -- "Fast and Furious." Heading back to the streets where it all began, they rejoin Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster to blast muscle, tuner and exotic cars across Los Angeles and floor through the Mexican desert in the new high-octane action-thriller.
When a crime brings them back to L.A., fugitive ex-con Dom Toretto (Diesel) reignites his feud with agent Brian O'Conner (Walker). But as they are forced to confront a shared enemy, Dom and Brian must give in to an uncertain new trust if they hope to outmanuever him. And from convoy heists to precision tunnel crawls across international lines, two men will find the best way to get revenge: push the limits of what's possible behind the wheel.

[06.03.2008] CS! meldet...
[...] Michelle Rodriguez has signed on to reprise her role of Letty in Universal Pictures' The Fast and the Furious 4. Also returning for the fourth film are first installment cast members Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster.
In the anticipated film, Brian (Walker) and Dominic (Diesel) team up to help the feds stop a heroin importer known as Braga. Brian - and ultimately Dominic - wins a place on the criminal's team, where he and his flashy Nissan plan to catch the man red-handed. [...]

[05.03.2008] Wie Moviehole meldet, wird die ehemalige Miss Israel Gal Gadot eine Rolle in FF4 spielen... Und bei IsraelNews.com erfährt man näheres...
[...] Gadot, who was named Miss Israel 2004, auditioned for the latest James Bond film a few months ago. Although she did not land the role, the international casting director was impressed enough with her to recommend her to "Fast and Furious 4" producers, who contacted the Look Modeling Agency and asked that Gadot be flown in immediately for an on-camera audition. Two weeks ago Gadot was called back to audition opposite Vin Diesel. [...]

[22.11.2007] Moviehole berichtet über die wiederkehrenden Charaktere in "The Fast and the Furious 4" und enthüllt ein paar Details zur Story... Vorsicht SPOILER !!!
[...] I did get wind today that Jordana Brewster is in talks to reprise her role as Mia, Dominic’s (Vin Diesel) sister in ‘’The Fast and the Furious 4’’.
The character of Mia would be the third cast member from Rob Cohen’s original to join the cast of the Justin Lin-directed sequel. And as far as I can tell, she’d be the last of them.
Where’s Michelle Rodriguez’s character you ask? Well, that’s getting into spoiler territory. [...]

[05.10.2007] Der TV-Sender RTL2 zeigt heute um 20.15 Uhr "The Fast And The Furious"... Die Wiederholung läuft um 0.35 Uhr...

[03.10.2007] HollywoodReporter.com meldet...
[...] Vin Diesel and Paul Walker are in negotiations to reunite for the fourth installment of Universal's "Fast and the Furious" franchise. Justin Lin and Chris Morgan, who were behind "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift," are returning to directing and writing duties, respectively.
Neal Moritz will produce the as-yet-untitled installment along with Diesel, who will produce through his One Race Films banner.
The story line is being kept under wraps, but fast cars are involved. A spring start is anticipated with shooting in Los Angeles, Mexico and the Dominican Republic.
The first "Furious," released in 2001, was a surprise hit, grossing more than $144 million and creating a franchise for the studio while making stars our of Diesel and Walker. Only Walker returned for the sequel, "2 Fast 2 Furious," and sat out the third installment, 2005's "Tokyo Drift." That movie had relative newcomer Lucas Black in the driver's seat but did feature Diesel in a cameo at the end of the movie. His appearance was so well received that it was even mentioned in ads. [...]

[29.09.2007] CS! sprach mit dem Regisseur Justin Lin...
A few weeks back, ComingSoon.net reported on a leaked memo doing the rounds in Hollywood that had Justin Lin attached to direct The Fast and the Furious 4 before the impending writers' strike. [...]
When asked whether the recent leak might have something to do with wishful thinking on the studio's part to get another "Fast and the Furious" movie out there before the strike, he responded, "That's definitely part of the climate. Not that I've been in this business that long, but it's unbelievable, some of the stuff that's happening. Everyone is scrambling, but if I do it, I'm going to have fun with it. I'm still assessing. I haven't totally signed on anything yet. People have been calling me, and I would do it for the right reason with the right people. That was my first action car movie and I feel like I'm better now. I would love to go and flex that muscle if it's appropriate or the right situation. It would take the right people to come on board for me to do it, so we'll see." [...]

[24.06.2007] RTL zeigt heute um 20.15 Uhr "2 Fast 2 Furious"... Die Wiederholung läuft um 0.20 Uhr...

[12.04.2007] Moviehole berichtet über den 4. Teil...
Chris Morgan has been to write the fourth instalment of "The Fast and the Furious" franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Morgan did such a knock-up job on last summer’s "Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" that Universal asked him back to pen sequel number three.
Recent rumours suggested that "The Fast and the Furious 4" might be headed direct-to-DVD, but this new substantiation - specifically the bit in the item that states that "Tokyo Drift" made a pleasing $158 million worldwide - would suggest otherwise. Don’t be surprised if they try and get Vin Diesel back - something they’ve discussed quite a few times - and make it a big monster tent pole teste-tickler. [...]

[...] "The Fast and the Furious 3" war mit 24,1 Mio. Dollar auf Platz drei zwar weniger stark als die Vorgänger "The Fast and the Furious" (Start: 40,1 Mio. Dollar; gesamt: 144,5 Mio. [15.06.2006] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Massawyrm...
[...] this is a silly fucking movie with a few shining moments of greatness. Had this film been about the Han character taking the total douche bag under his wing and showing him how to be a man, then this would have been a worthy addition to the Fast and the Furious franchise. Instead, this only manages to rank 2nd in the series because part two was so unbelievably, unintentionally funny.
But if you're the type of person that says "fuck all that, Bring on the fast cars, Asian girls in non-existent shorts and a blaring soundtrack" - well, you won't be disappointed. There's plenty of that on all fronts to keep you entertained. [...]

[13.06.2006] Eurogamer berichtet über das "The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift" Videospiel...
EA's announced that it will be co-publishing Namco Bandai's The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, announced earlier this year, on PS2 and PSP. You can see what the PS2 one looks like in the screenshot gallery.
In a case of art imitating art imitating wait hang on are we seriously calling this art, Tokyo Drift is a drift-racing arcade game with "camera angles straight from the movie", "Advanced Rubber Band AI", 10,000-poly car models and customisation options.
We can probably stow the cynicism a bit though since it sounds like it's aimed at people who don't know how to spin the car the wrong way round corners in Ridge Racer - apparently the drift system will feature assists and the like to level the playing field.
Based on the film, which, based on the trailer, looks like Ridge Racer meets Need For Speed doesn't meet Paul Walker because he's clearly got better things to do, TFATF: Tokyo Drift is developed by UK outfit Eutechnyx and should be with us in late summer.
Along with all the stuff mentioned above, you can also expect four-player online racing, and to customise your car with a hundred licensed wheels, 500 body kits and hopefully not those bloody awful England flags everyone's got stuck to their Fiestas that make them look a bit like elves with tassels.

[...] I just hope people don't stay away from this movie because of it's inferior predecessors. This flick doesn't need to be a sequel. It kicks butt on its own. Hollywood probably felt safer calling it a sequel. Anyone who stays away from this baby is going to miss out big time. Because Tokyo Drift runs circles around the Fast and the Furious 1 and 2. [27.10.2005] Bei Latino Review gibt es eine Kritik zum FF3-Drehbuch...
[...] A movie about Japanese racing culture. Drift racing. Big friggin’ deal. The script bored me and was a painful read hence 2 stars. The story sucked. The only good thing is that it tears away from the formula of the first two films about Paul Walker having to infiltrate whatever gang. Street racing whether here, Japanese, or on the moon just doesn’t interest me but I’m sure a lot of the young kids out there and especially the Japanese will dig it and the drifting scenes. This movie is basically a fish out of water story and the plot doesn’t kick in till halfway. The only thing returning from the 1st two films is producer Neal Moritz. Paul Walker supposedly gave them the idea for this film but he doesn’t have to worry because he isn’t missing out on much.

[11.10.2005] Die Daily Press berichtet über die FF3-Dreharbeiten in Kalifornien...
The 200-plus production crew has been filming in Victorville since Monday. Production of the film starring hip-hop singer Bow Wow is slated to continue until next Friday, according to workers who are staying at local hotels.
On Thursday, a group of stunt crews dazzled the crowds by filming a chase scene between a red Dodge Viper and a Chevy Nova.
"That car was cool, I am waiting until they crash that car into a house," Sanchez' son Ryan said.
Victorville spokeswoman Yvonne Hester said that film officials were looking at a site that would have homes under construction.

[29.09.2005] CS! meldet...
In addition to the previously-announced Lucas Black and Bow Wow, Universal Pictures has also added Brian Tee, Nikki Griffin, Sung Kang, Jason Tobin and newcomer Nathalie Kelley to the cast of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. Justin Lin will direct the project starting in October. "Tokyo Drift" reunites Lin with his Better Luck Tomorrow stars Kang and Tobin.
The third installment, written by Chris Morgan (Cellular) and Kario Salem, is set in the sexy, underground world of Japanese drift racing where the newest and fastest customized rides go head-to-head on some of the most perilous courses ever seen.
"Tokyo Drift" follows the story of Shaun Boswell (Black), who has always been an outsider. A loner at school, his only connection to the indifferent world around him is through illegal street racing -- which has made him particularly unpopular with the local authorities. To avoid jail time, Shaun is sent out of the country to live with his uncle in the military, in a cramped apartment in a low-rent section of Tokyo.
In the land that gave birth to the majority of modified racers on the road, the simple street race has been replaced by the ultimate pedal-to-the-metal, gravity-defying automotive challenge ... drift racing, a deadly combination of brutal speed on heart stopping courses of hairpin turns and switchbacks.
For his first unsuccessful foray in drift racing, Shaun unknowingly takes on D.K., the "Drift King," with ties to the Yakuza, the Japanese crime machine. The only way he can pay off the debt of his loss is to venture into the deadly realm of the Tokyo underworld, where the stakes are life and death.
The film is one of Universal's major titles for its summer 2006 schedule, already slotted for a June 16 release. The Fast and the Furious grossed $236 million at the worldwide box office, while 2 Fast 2 Furious brought in $207 million worldwide.

Rising young actor Lucas Black ["American Gothic", "Friday Night Lights"] is burning rubber over to Tokyo.
Black has been cast in Universal's "Fast and the Furious 3 : Tokyo", opposite Bow Wow, for director Justin Lin, his rapping co-star tells Zap2it.com.
"Me and Lucas Black are actually starring in that movie. 'Fast and the Furious 3: Tokyo.' It's gonna be hot and different. My first action movie, so it's gonna be great", Bow Wow says.
"It starts filming in the first week of October. After promoting 'Roll Bounce' I go to Europe for a week and then I'm back over here for three and a half months. Then we're over in Tokyo and Japan for three and half weeks."
Meantime, Record Online reports that "Sopranos" star Louis Gross has also tested for a role in the car caper.

[20.09.2005] Moviehole meldet...
Bow Wow - now plain ol 'big, not 'Lil - has snagged a plum movie role for himself.
According to Rolling Stone, the mini-rapper cum actor is joining the cast of Universal's car caper "Fast and the Furious 3 : Tokyo", for director Justin Lin.
In the film, a chap named Shaun Boswell heads to Tokyo, in an effort to escape prison, to live with his military officer uncle. In a low-rent section of the city, Shaun gets caught up in the underground world of drift racing.
Meantime, NZ stuntman Rhys Millen, who worked on "The Dukes of Hazzard", is doing the car-stunts for the film, says The Los Angeles Times. [...]

[...] "This is a big franchise for the studio," said Lin, pausing briefly as he packed his bags for a location scouting trip to Tokyo. "I'm just trying to make a good summer popcorn movie that has a little more to say; that's my goal. I'm not trying to win an Oscar, I just want to stay true to the characters and to the themes and have some kick-ass car chases. Those are the goals."
As the Chris ("Cellular") Morgan-penned script now stands, the third "Furious" film tells the story of Shaun Boswell, a 17-year-old American street-racer whose mother brokers a deal that allows him to avoid prison if he leaves the country. Sent to live with his military-employed uncle in Tokyo, the youth finds himself intrigued by the underground phenomenon of drift racing.
"It's about turning these corners on these roads, and how you handle it - it's not a straightaway race," Lin said of the real-life Asian phenomenon. "There are certain things required [of the cars] - you have to have rear-wheel drive; you can't have a four-wheel drive or a front-wheel drive, so you can pull the e-brake and stuff like that. You can drift, you can actually glide these turns, and be very efficient. It's not all about the speed; it's all about how you take these turns, so on a winding road you'll be kind of sliding back and forth very gracefully. It's interesting, because from a distance it looks very graceful, but when you're up close it's all about traction."
Lin confirms that the stars from "The Fast and the Furious" and its sequel, "2 Fast 2 Furious" (including Walker, Diesel, Eva Mendes and Ludacris), won't be a part of the third installment, and that the only true link between the three films will be the cars themselves. Nevertheless, he considers the lack of familiarity to be freeing.
"We're casting [the character of Shaun] and we're thinking of this kid that will go with the sensibility of the movie I want to make, which is more of a global sense. Someone that you can't quite tell what he is," the director said, hinting that his new star will have a Diesel-esque ambiguity. "We're building a whole new cast; we're looking at everybody. The thing that excited me was that it's a brand-new film; we don't want any holdovers. For me, it's very much like a postmodern Sergio Leone movie. Structurally, it's very much like a Western."
Lin, a cinema-savvy director with a fondness for Leone's classic "Man With No Name" trilogy, says the battle between Shaun and a villain racer known as the "Drift King" will have echoes of the classic battles in "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and the other films. "It's really just these two guys who are alpha males, and it's your classic Western setup: They have a little showdown at the end. That's pretty much all I can give you now, because I'm in the process of working that out. But think Western, think Leone Western."
The young director, who also cites Richard Linklater and Steven Soderbergh's careers as blueprints for the kind of studio-straddling indie filmmaker he'd like to become, says he'll find time to polish up the script in between all this scouting and casting. "Even if someone has to be a heavy, or a love interest, I don't want to take that for granted," he insisted. "I want to try to work really hard on the back story. In the initial script, they are Asian and some are Asian-Americans, and I'm working really hard to make them three-dimensional rather than just props, and that's always the challenge. But I feel like I'm up for it - so far so good. I guess we'll see next summer how it turns out."
Lin promises that casting announcements will be made over the next couple of months, and that the film will stay on target for a June 16, 2006 release. He also makes one last pledge: The currently untitled film will not be called "3 Fast 3 Furious."
"God," he laughed. "I really hope not."

[08.06.2005] CS! meldet...
Justin Lin (Better Luck Tomorrow) is set to direct Universal Pictures' The Fast and the Furious 3 (tentative title), according to Screen Daily.
Neal H Moritz, who produced the first two installments in the series -- The Fast and the Furious and 2 Fast 2 Furious -- will again produce. Chris Morgan (Cellular) has written the script for the third film which will take place in Tokyo in the underground world of Japanese drift racing.
The story focuses on Shaun Boswell, a loner at school, whose only connection to the world is his passion for illegal street racing. To avoid jail time, he is sent to live in Japan with his uncle in the military in a cramped apartment in a low-rent section of Tokyo. [20.04.2005] About.com sprach mit dem Produzenten Neal Moritz, u.a. über FF3...
[...] Is it true you’re doing a Fast and the Furious 3 with neither Vin Diesel nor Paul Walker? Yes, it is.
At what point did you realize you had to reinvent that franchise? Well, we really loved making those two movies and we were looking for a fresh take on how to go into that world again, we came to this idea of going to Japan.
How is racing different in Japan? It’s where a lot of this stuff started, so it’s about the new level of racing there.
Was there development on a Fast and the Furious 3 script that brought Dominic back? We had talked about it.
But it never got to even the treatment stage? No.
If the first sequel was 2 Fast 2 Furious, what will the third Fast and the Furious be called? I don't know. Got any good ideas?
How about 3 Fast Most Furiously? You can have that one. [...]

[15.11.2004] CS! sprach mit Vin Diesel...
[...] Diesel was dying to tell us what is going on with a potential third film in The Fast and the Furious series, which many consider to have been Diesel's big break. He wanted to "give us some juice so bad", but he said it was too political to talk about right now. He promised that he would be able to give us something "juicy" and "very New York" when he did the rounds for his new babysitting comedy The Pacifier, which comes out on March 4. [...]

Caught up with Paul Walker last year when he was in Oz promoting "2 Fast 2 Furious". Gotta say, genuinely nice chap. Loves his cars though. Loves 'em. If you know your pistons, driveshaft and mudguards he'll chew the gristle of your ear off.
He was pretty keen to hop back behind the wheel of a speedy-buggy for a mooted "Fast and the Furious 3" a while back, but something seems to have changed.
Talking to Cinema Confidential, Walker sounded a little half-half about the sequel. "I don’t know what’s going to happen with that. I’ll tell you when you turn those things off".
We can only speculate. There has been a lot of rumours about which direction the franchise is heading. One rumour suggested it was out with Walker and in with original muscle-head Vin Diesel, whilst another said the sequel would team Walker with "2 Fast" co-star Tyrese again. Whatever the case, sounds like a spanners been thrown in the works of said sequel plans. [...]

[15.06.2004] USA Today sprach kürzlich mit Vin Diesel über ein mögliches "Toretto"-Spin-Off...

[24.03.2004] Bei DH gibt es Insider-Infos zum Stand der Dinge in Sachen FF3...
"First off things with F&F3 are not as clean-cut and smooth as being reported. Second, NOTHING is set with F&F3. The project is in such an early stage of development that its basically not anything but a hope-dream as of yet nor is it being planned by Universal officially as of now. [...]
Universal also considers Paul a VERY bankable star, even after the major failure of Paramount’s "Timeline". As for Tyrese, no one knows. But many say since the two are close friends he will probably follow Walker’s decision. So no one is contracted for a third film as of yet.
Screenwriters, (that’s right, more than one) have been hired to develop storylines for a third film. Gary Scott Thomson (the story writer of the first 2 films) has a story in mind that involves Paul, Tyrese and Vin [...]

Universal Pictures is putting the gears in motion for a third installment of "The Fast and the Furious" and is hoping to put Vin Diesel back in the driver's seat of the Neal Moritz-produced franchise. Diesel and Paul Walker starred in the first "Fast," which grossed $144.5 million. Although Universal originally sought Diesel to reprise his role as Dominic Toretto in the sequel, negotiations broke down, and the studio opted to build the second film in the series around Walker, who teamed up with Tyrese for last year's "2 Fast 2 Furious," which grossed $127 million domestically. Universal, which will release Diesel starrer "The Chronicles of Riddick" on June 11, has begun to rev up the "Fast" team by hiring Chris Morgan to pen a script that would accommodate Diesel's return to the street-racing franchise. The studio said no deal is in place with the actor, adding that it is "looking to bring back certain elements from the first two films."

[08.03.2004] DH meldet...
Vin Diesel's return has been rumoured for a while, last week Paul Walker indicated he's out of the project (it may have to do with Vin's participation). Now British film mag HotDog indicates that one of Vin's requirements for coming back to play Dom is that the first film's director Rob Cohen helm it again.

[05.02.2004] Bei DH gibt es eine Insider-Meldung zu FF3...
"Vin Diesel's deal is 99.9 closed. They're keeping this under wraps while they develop the story because he did have a deal for the second pic that he opted out of. Because of his box office as of late (and the growing fear that "Riddick" may not be the blockbuster that the studio is hoping for) this is a no brainer as he's desperate for the stability a franchise offers. Paul Walker's character as of the early treatments is not involved in anything more than a cameo".

[02.12.2003] Ananova meldete kürzlich...
Vin Diesel is close to agreeing a return to the Fast and the Furious franchise, according to co-star Paul Walker.
The XXX star has reportedly met with producers to discuss the possibility of returning for a third installment of the action series.
Walker said: "Nothing's definite - you know how this town works! But the sequel did really well and rarely do you see a sequel reach the success of the first one.
"We actually did much better, so I think we'll go back and do a third one, and we're hoping Vin will be on board. It will be great - me, Tyrese and Vin." [...]

[22.10.2003] Aus der NY Post-Gerüchteküche...
VIN Diesel won't be starring in any more "XXX" movies. But after the success of "The Fast and the Furious" sequel, "2 Fast 2 Furious," he may be returning to the third segment of the drag-racing series. "Vin is in talks to star in the third 'Fast' movie. His character will return," said one insider. Meanwhile, Ice Cube will star in the next "XXX" movie - creating a rotating lead for the series which producers hope will keep costs down. A rep for Diesel didn't return calls.

[...] If I were a filmmaker, I would never want my name on garbage like this. The Omen of the neon title came true for me as the film unfolded. This is like a bad 80s action movie that deserved to go direct to video. Not worth your time, and this is coming from a fan of the first. I did go to see it with someone who had never bothered to see the first and he seemed indifferent to it. Don't see this.

[27.05.2003] The Movie Report liefert eine positive Kritik...
[...] Most viewers, I imagine, will likely be too caught up in the ride to really pay too much attention to all those fast and furious little things that add up to the larger experience, and that's just as well. Movies like 2 Fast 2 Furious are all about the bigger picture in every sense: the rocket speed of the cars; the over-the-top stunts; the firepower of the explosions; the glass-shattering decibel level; the uniformly broad strokes in every aspect of the execution; and--last and certainly not least--the size of the box office take. With 2 Fast 2 Furious being just 2 fun 2 deny, success in that last respect should be as effortless as the film's thrills and irresistible style.

[20.05.2003] Die Calgary Sun sprach mit Paul Walker, der statt "Superman" lieber "Fast & Furious 3" drehen würde...
[...] Reeves opted for the role of a lifetime. Walker didn't.
"I already have my franchise movie with The Fast and the Furious. It's wonderful the way fans react. Everywhere I go around the world, people want to shake my hand or pat me on the back. They quote my lines from the movie. That feels so good.
"That's why I did 2 Fast 2 Furious and why I'd do a third if the fans want it, but I wasn't ready to commit to Superman in the same way.
"I know if somebody had offered me Superman before I did The Fast and the Furious, I wouldn't have thought twice."
Walker, 29, still finds it difficult to believe 2 Fast 2 Furious will be opening on 10,000 screens around the world on June 6.
"They're dubbing me into about 30 languages. It's so exhilarating."

[...] In a summer where there's so many big films opening, I believe this film to be in the weaker section, simply for the reason where the original brought illegal car racing to the silver screen and something fresh this film becomes a run of the mil action film, something can be waited on for DVD rather then a cinematic experience, not a crap movie but not masterpiece either, perfect for friday night. Walker drives a green and yellow Mitsubishi Evo, a car not yet available on the North American market. Meanwhile, Tyrese drives a purple Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder that he helped design. Both cars are fitted with custom interiors, 20-inch wheels and other modifications by well-known aftermarket companies like Brembo, Sparco, House of Color, Konig and Panasonic. Scooper 'Michael' tells us what's been going on with the "Fast and the Furious 2" title. "I was informed that John Singleton was the last to learn of the last minute change of the film title. Which now is officially 2 Fast 2 Furious as of last week. It should be called 2 Idiotic because of the recent snafu on the part of Universal, why you ask? Universal never purchased the 2 Fast 2 Furious.com domain before revealing the new name on it's original site www.thefastandthefurious.com, and even when it was only considered as a marketing name. The domain is presently owned by a small neon shop that was originally hired by one of the films sponsors "SteetGlow Neon" to install neon into the movie cars. Now Universal doesn't know what to do." R&B singer Tyrese is in negotiations to star opposite Paul Walker in Universal Pictures' sequel to "The Fast and the Furious." [...] The casting of Tyrese comes on the heels of actor Vin Diesel deciding not to reprise his role of Dominic Toretto, prompting original "Fast" director Rob Cohen to also decline involvement. This meant that the sequel's screenwriters, Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, had to fashion a new antagonist to Walker's cop character, Brian O'Connor. Tyrese will take on the role. Tyrese, whose last name is Gibson, is repped by WMA and managers Jerome Martin and Gayle Atkins.

Variety reports that Universal's has broken off talks with Vin Diesel to reprise his role as Dominic Toretto in the sequel to "The Fast and the Furious," and the film's original director, Rob Cohen has also been scratched from the starting line. The film will now be built around Paul Walker's cop character Brian O'Conner, a role he's reprising.
The trade says industry buzz indicated that money was the major reason that Diesel is out. But a spokesman for Endeavor, which reps Diesel with the Firm, said, "Financially we all agreed, however it came down to purely a decision to continue with Vin's commitment to 'The Chronicles of Riddick.'"

"Obviously 'Fast and the Furious [2]' is going to pick up where we left off ," he said. "They're going to bulk up my character a bit. We're gonna get to see Edwin Bishop a little bit more this movie. And 'Riddick' is, ... it's not scary, but it's like a creature movie. It's like 'Pitch Black 2.' We're on another planet and it's crazy. These creatures come out only in the dark, and we can only see in the dark."

My friend Vinnie lives in Hollywood Florida, which is about 20 min north of Miami, and he said that he saw The Fast and the Furious 2 Rigs near the beach by his house. The film crew was there filming hooked up imports doing burnouts. Also I heard the movie is going to be like cannonball run. Meaning a race that involves Miami,Los Angeles,Chicago, and New York. Last but not least I have a feeling that the film crews are going to be looking for hooked up cars and local car clubs to help with filming. All this info is still in question, but God only knows how wild this movie is going to be. Peace!

Universal Pictures [...] is moving forward on a sequel to its summer blockbuster "The Fast and the Furious" and has reteamed with the film's producer Neal Moritz and director Rob Cohen to develop two unique scripts. The film's original screenwriter, Gary Scott Thompson, is working on one script, and the writing team of Michael Brandt and Derek Haas is working on another. Both plots are being kept closely under wraps, though it is known that they are set in Miami and revolve around the reteaming of police officer-turned-racer Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker) and street racer Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel). This time, their racing world has expanded to include not only souped-up cars but other speedy vehicles including motorcycles and boats. The studio is keen to see the original cast return, though no deals are yet in place. New characters also are expected to appear.
