B-D gibt neue Darstellerinnen für "Machete" bekannt... [...] Elise and Electra Avellan aka "The Crazy Babysitter Twins" from Grindhouse have been added to the ever growing cast of Robert Rodriguez's Machete. This time they will be known as "The Sexy Nurses" - perhaps the idea was inspired by their Maxim shoot where they were dressed up as sexy nurses [...]

Bei Latino Review gibt es eine Kritik zum Drehbuch von "Machete" (C-)... [...] I realize, just like the Grindhouse films, that this is a parody of the exploitation films of the 1970s. But I stand by my belief that there’s got to be something that keeps your audience’s interest in between all the gratuitous violence. You need to give Average Joe Moviegoer something to latch onto. And there isn’t a single hook in this story you can hang your hat on. It’s too silly. Too simplistic. Too dumb. Even at a reader-friendly 88 pages this script feels 50 pages too long. I guess the ultimate question is, how long can you keep people interested in a man racing around cutting people up with a machete? 10 minutes for some? 80 for another? The answer will be different for every moviegoer. [...]

Bei JoBlo.com gibt es folgende Meldung zu "Machete"... Robert Rodriguez has cast Jessica Alba (SIN CITY), Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez (FAST & FURIOUS), Lindsay Lohan (MEAN GIRLS), Cheech Marin (ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO), Jeff Fahey ("Lost"), Don Johnson and Steven Seagal (UNDER SIEGE) alongside Danny Trejo in the highly anticipated spin-off action flick, MACHETE. The film is based on the "fake" trailer in Rodriguez’s 2007 GRINDHOUSE, featuring Trejo and Fahey reprising their original roles. MACHETE is being produced by Rodriguez who is the co-director with Ethan Maniquis, his long time editor. Rodriguez and Overnight Productions announced today that shooting is gearing up out of Troublemaker Studios in Austin, Texas.
MACHETE was originally a hard-edged trailer featured in GRINDHOUSE that became fanboy fodder since its first showing at the 2006 Comic-Con. "Machete had become my most requested movie and I never actually made it, so when the opportunity arose to answer the call with such an amazing cast, I jumped." said Rodriguez.
The feature version of the trailer finds Machete (Trejo) a renegade former Mexican Federale, roaming the streets of Texas after a shakedown from drug lord Torrez (Seagal). Reluctantly, Machete takes an offer from spin doctor Benz (Fahey) to assassinate McLaughlin (De Niro) a corrupt Senator. Double crossed and on the run Machete braves the odds with the help of Luz (Rodriguez), a saucy taco slinger, Padre (Marin) his "holy" brother, and April (Lohan) a socialite with a penchant for guns. All while being tracked by Sartana (Alba), a sexy ICE agent with a special interest in the blade slinger.
Rodriguez who also penned the script will serve triple duty as Producer with Elizabeth Avellán of Troublemaker Studios, and Rick Schwartz, Aaron Kaufman, and Iliana Nikolic of Overnight Productions, who will also provide the film's financing.

CS! meldet...
In an article at Variety talking about Overnight Productions, the trade revealed that production began this week on Machete, a feature version of the fake trailer that was included in Grindhouse.
Danny Trejo is returning as the title character and Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Steven Seagal, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson and Jeff Fahey play supporting roles.
Robert Rodriguez is co-directing with protege Ethan Maniquis.

GordonAndTheWhale.com sprach mit Danny Trejo... [...] One film Trejo is definitely still in is Robert Rodriguez’s MACHETE, which has been long-rumored to be rolling forward. Well now it is! Trejo said he just talked to Rodriguez yesterday and was told they would begin shooting in 5 weeks. Guess that ends the debate on what Rodriguez’s next film is going to be.
For those of you who don’t know, MACHETE was one of the fake trailers featured in Tarantino and Rodriguez’s GRIND HOUSE (check it out here). No relation to Trejo’s equally awesome character in SPY KIDS, also named Machete. [...]

Variety.com meldet... Robert Rodriguez is ready to cut a wide swathe, and his plans include re-launching the "Predator" franchise for Fox and co-directing "Machete."
For the later, the filmmaker will create a feature out of the blade- wielding antihero who appeared in a mock trailer that was part of "Grindhouse."
Rodriguez is eyeing a June start date in Austin for "Machete," a film that is financed and produced by Overnight Productions, with Danny Trejo starring as the title character.
Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.
Rodriguez wrote the script and will direct the film with Ethan Maniquis, his longtime editor. The film is being produced by Rodriguez, Rick Schwartz of Overnight Productions and Aaron Kaufman.
Not immediately clear is whether Rodriguez and Overnight will find a way to use the irresistible marketing slogan that appeared in the "Grindhouse" trailer: "This time, they fucked with the wrong Mexican." It is the first non-studio movie that Rodriguez has directed since "El Mariachi." [...]
