"Born in the flames of hell, and brought to our world in a pagan ritual, the fierce red hero, Hellboy (Perlman), was saved by his friend and mentor, the benevolent Dr. Broom (Hurt). Raised in Broom's Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, Hellboy joins the likes of the Mer-Man Abe Sapien, Liz Sherman (Blair), the woman he loves who can psychically control fire, and Myers, the FBI agent who is his rival for Liz's affections. Together, our heroes must come to terms with fantastic powers that prove to be both a blessing and a curse. In the process they discover that their abilities serve to benefit mankind but may also keep them forever isolated from the society that only they can protect."
"Blade II", "Alien: Ressurection")...

[...] He also touched on last week's news item in which Mike Mignola told a reporter that del Toro likely won't return for Hellboy 3.
Del Toro says that he WOULD like to do a third film, but his schedule is so nuts.
"By the time I get to it and by the time we got Ron [Perlman] back, he'll be a HellMAN and in a wheelchair," he joked. [...]
Examiner sprach mit Ron Perlman...
[...] You’re expected to work with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro on "Hellboy 3" and "At the Mountains of Madness." What’s the status of those movies?
[...] I hope there’s a third "Hellboy," simply because he always thought of it as a trilogy. And when he set up that [Liz Sherman, Hellboy’s love interest] is pregnant with twins at the end of "Hellboy 2," he kind of sketched out what the third "Hellboy" movie would look like. It’s so theatrical. It’s so epic. It’s so dark.
And also, we have to find out about the Hellboy destiny. It’s written in stone that he’s going to destroy mankind. That’s what he’s been brought to Earth to do. So the whole dialogue between nurture and nature gets to live itself out in the third "Hellboy" movie. But if there’s no third one, then the audience doesn’t get to see any of that.
Well, there are lots of people who are hoping there will be a "Hellboy 3."
I hope so too. It’s worth doing.
[...] del Toro seemed to indicate that its fate rested in the hands of Ron Perlman, the actor who starred in the title role under several layers of makeup; a process which Perlman apparently dislikes.
"You know, I think that everyone should ask Ron [Perlman]," said del Toro. "I had dinner with [Perlman] last night. He said 'six hours [in the makeup chair], what do you want?'" And he's doing 'Sons of Anarchy' without makeup. He's spoiled! He likes to be the big cheese without the makeup session."
"I would love to do it," continued del Toro. "But the heartbreak for me is that I know how it ends and I don't know if I want to see that ending. But I would love to do it." [...]
[...] "I talked about that with [Hellboy creator] Mike Mignola, and I respect very much his decision," Del Toro told MTV News when asked if he had any plans to expand the "Hellboy" movie universe into comics. "He said to me, people have enough trouble distinguishing what comes from the movie and the comic."
"Some people call [Hellboy's] gun ‘The Samaritan’ and Mike gets really riled up," laughed Del Toro, offering some examples of the movie/comics confusion that irks Mignola. "‘That’s not from the comic,’ he said to me. ‘I want the movie to stay the movie and not permeate the other stuff.’ And I respect that."
As for whether he’d ever hand over the reins to the Hellboy universe to another director, Del Toro said he was willing - but he doubted that he’d be the issue.
"But how do we loan the actor?" said Del Toro. "Ron Perlman is a guy, I think, who only goes in makeup anymore when I torture him to do it. He hates it."
Q:Universal announced a pretty busy slate for you after "The Hobbit." Will we see a Hellboy 3?
A:If its up to me- yes!! But it is a corporate decision and regimes change very rapidly at these studios. [...]
Latino Review sprach mit GDT über Teil 3...
[...] If you cannot do 'Hellboy 3' would you consider one of your two amigos doing it?
Toro: I don't know if any of them have an affinity for the material. I know that Alfonso [Cuaron] loves it, but he loves it as a fan. He doesn't love it, I think, enough to do it. I would beg Universal to wait. I mean, I would not even mind shooting as soon as the second movie of 'The Hobbit' comes out. I would do anything to shoot 'Hellboy 3'.

"Hellboy II" shot to the top of the American box office in its opening week and is approaching the $US100 million mark, which gives some indication that a third movie would be welcomed by audiences. We had the chance to ask Ron Perlman what he thinks.
"This ride we're on, opening number one at the box office, that's just icing on what was already the most delicious cake I'd ever bitten into," Perlman tells Moviehole's Guy Davis. "Nothing's been announced but I wouldn't be surprised if there's a third, particularly on the heels of Hellboy II's success. And I know Guillermo has an incredibly well-articulated idea about what the third movie needs to be. It'll answer a lot of questions. It almost needs to happen because with the ideas that he has about closing the trilogy, it would be a shame for it go unfinished."
Even if there's no "Hellboy III" a reunion may still be in the offing. "When I found out he was going to be in New Zealand for four years, I said to him ‘I'm really gonna miss you, pal'," says Perlman. "And he said to me ‘Oh no, you're not!' I don't know what he means by that - he didn't get any more specific - but if he needs me there I'm there. Anytime I can be on a film set or even just sitting around a dinner table from Guillermo Del Toro, I'm there."

[...] HELLBOY II is a great example of what happens when someone is allowed to make a sequel to their own film, but with a greater support system and more creative freedom. The first HELLBOY is a film I liked quite a bit, but on repeat viewings, its faults are fairly obvious. The main one is Meyers. No matter how well-played he was, he was a studio note with feet. You can practically hear the execs saying, "Well, everyone’s just so weird. You have to have a normal guy as your main character, and let all the freaks just be the supporting cast. That way, people won’t get creeped out."
Uhhhh... no. This time, the freaks carry the film, and you get the distinct feeling that’s the way it was always meant to be. The result is a film with twice the heart of the already-substantially-heartfelt original, twice the scale, and much more personal stakes for everyone. [...]

Bei AICN gibt es eine "Hellboy II"-Kritik...
[...] Whereas HELLBOY succeeded despite the worst, homogenizing efforts of the studio (Sony), HELLBOY II flourishes because it feels like 100%, unadulterated Guillermo; true, he might be playing nicer than usual, but the monsters are still a thing of rare, grotesque, meticulously-designed beauty. [...] he would like to do a third film if the upcoming sequel does well, but no more.
"If there was ever a third one, I would really make sure that we at least sign a contract that there is no more," del Toro said in an interview at New York Comic Con last week. "No prequels and no sequels: nothing. If that happens, then there is a third one we have planned, and the seeds are planted in this film."
Hellboy II: The Golden Army departs from Mike Mignola's comic books, with an original story that centers on a fantastical realm based on mythology created by Mignola and del Toro together.
If a third installment becomes a reality, del Toro said the story would shift back to the pulp mythology of the original comic-book series. "The idea for me is to bring back the Nazis characters, but bring them back in a way they would operate now," del Toro said. "Meaning, what public face would the Nazis have in 2009/2010? How rich would they be? How in charge could they be? It's not this group of freakies that hide in the sewers, but people that are incredibly rich." [...]

[...] The teaser for Hellboy II: The Golden Army didn't really give anyone much of an idea about the plot for the upcoming sequel, but the new trailer made things much clearer while giving a look at most, if not all, of the creatures we'll be seeing in what looks to be Guillermo del Toro's latest masterpiece. For those who read Superhero Hype!'s set report, the trailer shows a lot of the creatures and plot developments that were discussed there.
The new trailer opens at the Blackwoods auction house where they're putting the Royal Crown of Bethmoora up for auction when Luke Goss' Prince Nuada shows up to reclaim it, and his henchman Mr. Wink crashes through a door with what looks like his metal fist dangling from a chain. It then cuts to the BPRD headquarters to reintroduce the concept of the BPRD being called upon to deal with supernatural occurrences, and Hellboy, Liz and Abe Sapien show up at the location which is completely trashed and empty, and Hellboy says something to Liz, like "There's no one here, babe" and she retorts "Don't call me babe!" which he responds, "I didn't call you babe, I said 'Hey!'" Hellboy makes a comment about it not looking good when thousands of Thooth Fairies, tiny winged creatures with sharp teeth fly out from the shadows of the walls attacking them. The rest of the trailer is very quick and goes by very fast, but we finally see Princess Nuala and get glimpses of a lot of the creatures of the Troll Market including Cathedral Head, and after we see one of the more hideous creature, it cuts to Hellboy yelling "I see you" and we see that the creature is disguised as an old bag lady (presumably this is the creature referred to as "Bag Lady" in the production office). We see more of Hellboy fighting against the Golden Army, the giant mechanical beetles that Prince Nuada brings to life, and more of his fight with Mr. Wink with the two of them smashing their stone fists together and Wink's fist crumbling as he looks at the results and whines. The final scene is the street scene with the giant Elemental but this time Hellboy yells at the creature, "Now you've done it. You woke the baby!" and pulls out his Big Baby gun. [...]

Bei IESB gibt es ein Interview mit Selma Blair... Vorsicht SPOILER !!!
Q: [...] Guillermo has said he has an idea for the next film. Has he talked with you about it?
SB: Yeah. I mean, he has shared it with me. I'm just praying that he'll do it. I mean, I'm praying the third one will come, because for me that would be the strongest one for my character. So selfishly I want that. But I also think the story of the third one will be so haunting and just such a major story that I think it would be such a shame to cheat it and just end with the second. So I hope the third one is made, but I know it's been exhausting. [...]
