Erzählt wird die Geschichte von Robert Nevill (gespielt von Will Smith, u.a. "Independence Day") - dem letzten Menschen der Welt. Nach einem biologischen Krieg, dessen Ende ein globaler Holocaust war, ist es Nevill, der als einziger noch übrig geblieben ist - fast.
