[17.11.2004] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Harry Knowles...
[...] have now watched THE INCREDIBLES - 4 times. I've not written about the film, simply because - oddly - I can't think of what to say. It's perfect. It's just an absolutely perfect film. It deserves to earn all the money. Win all the awards. There should be a mountain range somewhere carved to look like the characters - so for all time - we will know THE INCREDIBLES. [...]

Well, a TV series spinoff is out of the question, according to writer/director Brad Bird. "I think it would be a terrible idea," Bird said, "because it wouldn’t look like The Incredibles. It would have to be stripped down and I think the stories would become more mundane and I think to do that I think would be kind of cynical. I think the only reason to do more of something is if you can do it on the same level. [...]"
Producer John Walker said The Incredibles wasn’t designed to launch a series of films. "We just made this movie and it wasn’t like ‘Ah, part one of the franchise,’" Walker said. "It wasn’t anything like that."
Should there be a sequel, there would be the tricky question of whether it would be owned by Disney or Pixar, should the two finally split apart. "I don’t have the particulars on the deal between Disney and Pixar," Walker said. "I’m a producer of a specific film. The clash of the Titans happens above us and we just make the movie."
So where would Walker go if only one company moved ahead with sequels? "I honestly don’t know. I’d have to call an attorney."

[14.11.2004] Blickpunkt:Film berichtet über die US-Kinocharts...

[...] It was amazing. Not only did the comedic elements hit just the right notes, but the action scenes were phenominal. It would not be an exaggeration to say that this movie had some of the most impressive super heero action scenes I have ever seen in a movie, animated or ottherwise.
I don't know why, but for some reason I was not informed that Jason Lee was voicing the villain Syndrome, so that was a pleasant surprise for me. The voice acting is excellent all around, though Craig T. Nelson probably could have put a little more energy into it, but that's really nitpicking. [...]

[...] The moderator asked if there was going to be a "franchise" for "Incredibles" and immediatley Bird verbally pounced on him, saying, "leave it alone," and is just annoyed that because a movie makes a load of cash that there has to be a sequel. But he said if they can come up with a story [with the same creative team] that's just as good/better than the original, they'd do "Incredibles 2"...he likened it as "Toy Story 2" was to "Toy Story 1." (Nobody dared to bring up Eisner's plans for Toy Story 3 and 4) He says there are no current plans to make a sequel. [...]

[...] This film is charming...and quite fantastic. It is also a HUGE departure for Pixar. When I say departure, I mean this film is Brad Bird's breaking of the normal Pixar/Disney mold. Some may not like that... even though I for one loved it. [...]
The CG and FX are amazing and what everyone has craved to see for a long time. Elasti-Girl and Dash really steal the show with their powers. [...]
Pixar tagged on a great Incredibles segment at the very end of the credits. I assume they'll leave this in the public release. It's so damn funny!!!!!!!!!!! STAY IN YOUR SEATS UNTIL THE VERY END OF THE FILM TO SEE IT. You won't regret it! [...]

[09.10.2004] Bei AICN gibt es positive Kritiken zu "The Incredibles"...
[...] Loved the movie, loved it loved it loved it. The animation was great, especially the island and water scenes. All the actors were great, although I wish we could have seen a little more of Samuel L. Jackson’s Frozone. Loved Holly Hunter too, she was fantastic. I don't really have anything negative to say. The movie was longer than I expected, but that was just an observation, not a critique. [...]

[16.09.2004] Bei Latino Review gibt es das finale US-Poster... Buena Vista International (Germany) informiert über die deutschen Synchronstimmen...
[...] was wären Superhelden ohne die dazugehörigen super Stimmen?!

[...] John Lassiter spoke for a while [...] He showed an extended scene with Mr. Incredible and "E", who makes super hero outfits. Very funny. E's whole explanation for why capes are bad and the scenes showing why capes are bad was great. Then he showed the rough cut of the new trailer that is coming out in May. It introduces you to more characters. There is a scene where one superhero is running around the house looking for his superhero outfit and screaming at his wife for help (imagine when your wife has lost the car keys and just found out Macy's is having a Winter Sale), this was very funny, especially the interplay between the husband and wife as to why he needs his outfit. This movie will make tons of money, but what's new with the great Pixar.[...]

SPOILER !!!
[...] Bird was there as a surprise and brought out about four minutes of footage from Pixar's forthcoming The Incredibles as well as the debut of the theatrical trailer.
Prefaced with a load of caveats about the state of the print, Bird talked briefly about the film before showing the reel. The Incredibles looks to have the same type of trademark Pixar humor and quality that has characterized all of their other releases. The film presupposes that superheroes are subject to the lawsuits and the troubles of modern life and therefore most of them have retired or gone underground. Here is a description of the clip shown to ShoWest attendees:
Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) shows up at the house of costume designer known as Edna, or more simply as "E." Part Parisian snob, part the woman from the Old Navy commercials, E (voiced by Bird himself) has been forced underground (like all of the heroes in the film) and has to design costumes on the sly. After being persuaded by Incredible to mend his costume, E then takes on the challenge of creating a new costume. When Incredible mentions a cape, we are treated to a hilarious montage of mishaps in the world of superheroes who relied on capes as part of their costume and image. It's an extremely energetic and frenzied sequence, which seems to match the tone of the film in general. It is, as Bird jokingly notes, an action film.
The trailer also debuted and is easily among the most crazed of any Pixar release. It is a collection of snips but doesn't give away anything about the movie. In fact, about the only thing the trailer does is announce that it is from Pixar and shows off the colorful world created by the filmmakers and animators. It is an effective look at the film and is sure to create a certain amount of buzz when it hits in April 2004. [...]

After seeing what I saw today, there is not an iota of doubt in my mind that THE INCREDIBLES will rule the friggin' earth when it comes out in november. SPOILER !!!
[...] I attended a general audience test screening of Pixar's The Incredibles in Emeryville this afternoon (lucky me!). I don't know what I can tell you about it, other than summarizing the story and characters and such, all of which may change in the coming year, I'm sure. It was very, very rough cut; well over 90% of it was storyboards and rough animatics; there were only two brief shots that could have possibly been completed, but I have no way of knowing whether or not they were. I'll tell you what I know, then what I think.
It starts out with Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) having a really busy day, people robbing banks and blowing up buildings, and he's getting married to Elastigirl (Holly Hunter), when the adolescent president of his fan clubshows up with the intention of becoming Mr. Incredible's sidekick (coining himself Incrediboy), but quickly proves to be a greater liability and is rejected. The day ends with a would-be suicide victim suing Mr. Incredible for a broken collar bone inflicted while saving his life. This sets a precedent; superheroes are being slapped with so many lawsuits that the government is forced to set up an protection program, sending Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl to anonymous suburbia to lead normal lives and raise a family.
Mr. Incredible, known as Bob Parr, doesn't like his new life. He doesn't like being pushed around by his pushy little boss (Wallace Shawn) or the immoral business he's involved in (he reviews insurance claims). He tells his wife he's going bowling so that he can listen to police scanners with his friend Lucius Best, formerly Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson). When he receives a mysterious invitation to stop an intelligent defense robot rampaging a remote tropical island, he accepts, but he can't tell his wife Helen; she's worked hard to build their new life and can't abide his nostalgia for heroics.
He defeats the robot and comes home, beginning a business relationship with the people who hired him, but his wife becomes suspicious of an affair when she finds a strand of his female informant Mirage's hair on his clothes, until she notices his old costume has been mended, and realizes her competition isn't another woman.
When Bob leaves for another "conference", she contacts fashion designer Edna Mode, aka "E", the only one Bob would have trusted to do the repairs, who's taken the liberty of designing new suits for the whole family, including angsty pre-teen Violet, who can turn invisible and generate force fields, and rambunctious Dash (guess what his power is), and even baby Jack Jack, whose powers are still unknown. She learns from E how to find Bob and borrows a jet from the government to go reprimand or save Bob (she isn't sure which). The two older children stow away, and the three find themselves with Mr. Incredible on the island volcano base of Syndrome, the would-be Incrediboy (Jason Lee), who's made a fortune designs weapons and defense systems and intends use it to destroy the elitist superhero community of which he couldn't be apart. I was so excited to hear Jason Lee's voice, but less excited about the role he was in; the villain nearly as threatening as one would hope, and while his motives are original and can be sympathized with, there's no question that the character's just pathetic, and kind of annoying (he looks and sounds just like the WB's Freakazoid, a similarity that's even more pronounced in the few CG sequences I saw him in than the 2D storyboards).
Syndrome wants to send another of his intelligent robots to the mainland to make a little trouble, then orchestrate his own destruction of the robot, making himself a hero - after killing the Incredibles. He leaves to do this with the family held captive; their escape is aided by his assistant Mirage, and they return to San Francisco to stop Syndrome's plan from exacting too much damage. His plot is instantly foiled by his own robot, which instinctively destroys the remote control that would deactivate it. It's up to the Incredibles and Frozone to stop the beast. After a climactic battle, they do so, and return home just in time to see Syndrome kidnapping baby Jack Jack; the attempt is botched by Jack Jack himself in a display of power I can't quite do justice; in storyboard form it looked like he was emulating between three or four superheroes, including the Human Torch and the Hulk. At the end of the day, a renewed sense of respect for superheroes is displayed by the public, and the government admits their value to society; their days of living in anonymity are over.
The growth and unity of the family is every bit as touching as Monsters Inc. and Finding Nemo (well, maybe not quest as much as Monsters Inc., I hold that one pretty high), but the action sequences really hold their own against any other superhero movie. The humor is more abundant that in recent Pixar attempts and more mature, but still suitable for the whole family (a scene where Mr. Incredible wants a cape on his new suit, but E rattles off endless examples of superheroes who have died in terribly ironic cape accidents; another where Frozone argues with his wife over whether or not he can have his suit as the robot ravages the city right outside their living room window; when Syndrome meets the whole Incredible family, he exclaims "You married Elastigirl...and got busy!").
One problem I noticed, in the cut I saw anyway, was lack of development in a lot of the individual characters. We know Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl pretty well early on, but the kids, the villain, the supporting characters we only understand through rather broad generalizations. Violet feels like an outsider; she has gifts she can't use and has to keep a secret, she assumes she's unacceptable because her abilities can't be accepted. Dash needs an outlet for his abilities, but his mother won't let him go out for sports, so he makes mischief at school instead. We don't see much of Frozone, but he's Samuel L. Jackson; very much the opposite of his character in Unbreakable, which despite glaring dissimilarities, this movie reminded me of frequently.
Every Pixar film I see, I have to stop and consider afterwards whether or not it's the best I've seen yet. The jury's still out on this one, but I can tell you it was absolutely excellent. The questionnaire we had to fill out afterwards was completely absurd; it asked what the best scenes and worst scenes were, whether it went too slow or too fast, which characters we liked best. There were no best or worst scenes, it was executed beautifully. I hope they don't change anything in the final cut, side from actually animating it this time. [...]

[20.11.2003] Bei Tiscali gibt es ein Interview mit Samuel L. Jackson...
TISCALI: Ah.. The Incredibles. But you play a bad guy in that, don't you?
SLJ: No! I'm a good guy! I'm Mr Incredible's best friend. I'm Frozon.
TISCALI: Do you have super powers or are you more of a batman-type gadget oriented...
SLJ: I've got superpowers, man! - I can make things freeze... Yeah, it was cool, spent about five, six months making that, off and on.
TISCALI: How do you find voice work like that?
SLJ: Yeah, it was fun, - specially 'cause you can't see ANYthing, not while you're doing it. All we had was the character picture on the wall, but they hadn't done the animation. It's like doing a radio play.

A preview of The Incredibles aired on October 11, 2003 during "The Wonderful World of Disney" on ABC. Early animation was presented by actor John Ratzenberger, who explained that the Pixar film is "an hilarious action-packed computer animated adventure about superheroes--or I should say, ex-superheroes, like Mr. Incredibles. After a spade of unfortunate accidents and a string of lawsuits, these superheroes were kind of forced to hang up their leotards and take on civilian identities. Now instead of fighting evil on a daily basis, they're fighting boredom and an ever-expanding waist line."

[...] Violet: Mr. Incredible's awkward, shy, teenage daughter. She speaks as little and as monosylabbically as possible. She has a very slight goth teenage rebel "the world is too much and it hates me" thing about her. Her superpower? Invisibility! How perfect is that?
"E": this short fiesty lady is THE superhero costume designer! Voiced by: Brad Bird! They couldn't find anyone who had the same attitude and inflections to make the character work, so Mr. Bird's voice stayed. E does a great run down of why she won't do superhero costumes with capes... [...]

[16.06.2003] Cindy Pearlman schreibt...
[...] "Finding Nemo" swam back to the top of the box office.
This comes as no surprise to co-director Lee Unkrich, who says, "Everyone who worked on 'Nemo' felt there was something special about this one. It's really an epic story about children and parents."
It's also from the Pixar folks, who can't seem to lose. Could there be a... "Toy Story 3?" "Monsters Inc. 2?" on the drawing board? Unkrich laughs and says, "We hear a lot of demand for 'Monsters 2,' but that's not on the list right now." He adds, "A lot of us at Pixar would love to do another 'Toy Story,' but there are no concrete plans."
What is cooking is "The Incredibles." "It's about a family of superheroes who go into the witness-protection program," says the director. "We're also working on 'Cars.' The main characters are cars and the whole thing takes place on Route 66."

[...] Just saw some stuff from this film today, including some animation tests and a rough version of the teaser due out soon.
It is *awesome*.
[...] The character design on this film is a real departure from the 'standard' Pixar fare, as is the animation philosophy. The facial animation alone is a huge step forward. And the teaser is hilarious.
Pixar has raised the bar yet again. [...]
