Im von Deutschland besetzten Frankreich formt Lt. Aldo Raine (Brad Pitt, u.a.

Made for about $70 million, the war film has reached $104.3 million. Tarantino's North American record is the $108 million earned by Pulp Fiction in 1994 - a figure "Basterds" is expected to surpass soon. [...]
THR.com berichtet über die internationalen Einspielergebnisse... In a sluggish, end-of-summer round on the international circuit, "Inglourious Basterds" narrowly emerged as the No. 1 title for the third consecutive weekend with an estimated $14.3 million drawn from 2,946 playdates in 35 territories. [...]
"Basterds" opened in Finland, Croatia, Romania and Argentina, and in each market registered the best opening weekend gross of any previous title from director Quentin Tarantino. The Weinstein Co./Universal release has accumulated $83.3 million so far overseas, $174.3 million worldwide.
Germany and France remain exceptionally strong territories for "Basterds." It tallied $3.2 million from 449 situations in Germany in its third weekend for an 18-day cume of $14.1 million. In France the cume over 19 days is $16.1 million.
With 26 markets to play over the next three months, "Basterds' " international run is on track to become the biggest to date for a Tarantino film. [...]
CS! berichtet über die US-Einspielergebnisse... [...] After opening with $38 million last week, Quentin Tarantino's WWII thriller Inglourious Basterds (The Weinstein Company/Universal) dropped 47% to second place with roughly $20 million and a ten-day total of $73 million domestically. CS! berichtet über die Einspielergebnisse... [...] Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds dominated the weekend box office, earning an estimated $37.6 million domestically and $27.5 million internationally for a worldwide debut of $65.1 million. It's the biggest Tarantino opening ever at the domestic box office, beating Kill Bill Vol. 2's $25.1 million in 2004. "Basterds," which cost about $70 million to make, provided a much-needed boost for struggling domestic distributor The Weinstein Company, which co-financed the film with international distributor Universal Pictures. [...]
Variety.com berichtet über die Kinocharts... If the Weinstein Co. is chilling any champagne for the opening of Quentin Tarantino's latest film, it's okay to pop it now. "Inglourious Basterds" made a killing Friday, reaping an estimated $14.3 million from 3,165 theaters to easily score Tarantino's best opening day ever at the domestic box office.
While much has been written about the Weinstein Co.'s financial straits in recent months, the opening for "Basterds" comes as a blue sky for the pic company as it prepares for award season. [...]
"Basterds" was co-produced and co-distributed internationally by Universal Pictures. Tarantino also won his best opening day in France with "Basterds" on Wednesday with $1.4 million. Overseas, the film is playing on a total of 2,620 playdates in 22 territories including the U.K. and Germany.
Among Weinstein Co. releases, "Basterds" owns the second highest opening day for the studio behind 2006's "Scary Movie 4" ($19 million). "Basterds" also broke "District 9's" record from last Friday ($14.2 million) as the second highest R-rated opener in August behind "American Pie 2." ($16.5 million). Tarantino's previous B.O. bow highs for his solo-helming work belonged to 2004's "Kill Bill Vol. 2" which drew a first day of $10.8 million and a three-day weekend of $25.1 million.
Having been a pet project of Tarantino's for at least 10 years, "Basterds" tells the tale of a bunch of WWII Jewish American soldiers who ruthlessly eliminate Nazis. The film touts mostly an international cast with the exception of Brad Pitt, Mike Myers, Eli Roth ("Hostel" helmer), Diane Kruger ("National Treasure") and B.J. Novak (NBC's "The Office"). However, since winning the best-actor trophy at Cannes for "Basterds," Austrian-born thesp Christoph Waltz has been winning critical praise for his portrayal as a fierce Nazi colonel. "Basterds" borrows its title from Enzo Castellari's 1978 film "Inglorious Bastards." [...]

Bei HeyUGuys.co.uk gibt es eine Kritik... [...] It's a beautifully shot propaganda film, 65 years too late. Basterds continues Tarantino's maturation; there really is nothing he can't do, no genre he can't take to his own extreme. It is a feast for eyes, ears and heart. Some of the scenes are among the best he's ever written, and in Shosanna and Hans Landa takes two of the most cliched characters in WW2 movies and breathes crisp new life into them. Knowing that Tarantino's ideal audience is himself and hopes others will enjoy what he does, this film is a triumph. [...]
Bei Variety.com gibt es ein Q&A mit Tarantino, u.a. gibt es Infos zur finalen Laufzeit des Films und den Hinweis auf ein mögliches (!) Prequel... BFD: [...] Do you have enough enthusiasm left for a prequel?
Tarantino: Oh, yeah, I definitely do. I’ve written the first half already. I’d have to finish it, get the Basterds back together, and insert a whole other group of characters, these black troops that come across the Basterds.
BFD: Are the Basterds game?
Tarantino: All through the movie, Brad Pitt and Eli Roth just kept saying, "Prequel. Prequel." Brad would say, "Let’s talk him into doing a prequel." The guys love the idea. I’ve got the storyline. Then again, I was going to do all these animated prequels to Kill Bill. I didn’t end up doing any of those. [...]

Bei Twitch gibt es eine weitere Kritik zum Film... [...] the film’s climactic battle brings almost enough payoff to make up for the remaining two plus hours of excessive talking. Yes, his dialogue is great, but the ratio of talking to action is so woefully out of balance that the entire film becomes less than the sum of its parts as a result. The most concise thing I can say about Inglourious Basterds is: less talk, more rock.
