[13.01.2008] Der TV-Sender Pro7 zeigt heute um 20.15 Uhr "Die Insel"... Die Wiederholung läuft um 1.05 Uhr...

[05.08.2005] Bei mysan.de gibt es eine Kritik...

[04.08.2005] Heute startet "Die Insel" in den deutschen Kinos...

[28.07.2005] Bei Blickpunkt:Film gibt es eine Kritik...

[...] You can't help but feel that there was once a quite interesting and potentially deep science-fiction movie that was in here that was seriously dumbed down to deliver a mediocre action vehicle. One has to ask, why must a good story be dumbed down to add in the testosterone - pulling off both action and smarts in a movie is a tough job for any director and one day he may crack it. But not today.

[23.07.2005] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Moriarty... SPOILER !!!
[...] In the end, this is agreeable but forgettable, a nice film for Bay, but it feels like he’s sort of marking time here. He seems to be looking for just the right film, something where his sensibilities really connect with a piece of material in a way that will send sparks into the audience, igniting their imaginations. Who knows? TRANSFORMERS seems like a fetish dream for a guy who loves to shoot hardware as much as Bay does, and I do think that Kurtzman & Orci are good writers. Here’s hoping THE ISLAND turns out to be a stylish but ultimately empty rev up to something great. [...]

[22.07.2005] Bei AICN gibt es eine weitere Kritik... SPOILER !!!
[...] I’m here to tell you that this movie is just fine. If you wanna nit-pick it to death, there’s plenty of ammo. If you are intent on having a good time, you won’t have a problem finding one. The Island is cool, sexy, safe and a little dumb. In the hands of another director, it probably could’ve been a sci fi classic, but as it stands, it’s your standard above-average action movie summer escapism. But hey, it’s Michael Bay. [...]

[...] I think Bay finally hit this one out of the park! I wonder if its a coincidence that this is the first non-Bruckenheimer of Bay's because this one is his best......BY FAR!!!! It's good to see a movie this summer that's not a remake or a sequel. [...]

[09.07.2005] Bei AICN gibt es mehrere Kritiken... SPOILER !!!
[...] Beyond little problems though, the action scenes were amazing, the dialogue had none of the standard "you just shot up my car" type of things you'd expect during the action scenes as one-liners, and the cast really played the whole innocent thing well. Overall, I would say this was a home run for everyone involved. [...]

[...] some of the scenes had blue screens in the background and some of the effects were unfinished. But even unfinished the movie looks great. Really cool environments and some huge sets. [...]
there are a lot of really smart ideas and very interesting concepts in this story. A bit of Blade Runner and Clockwork Orange as well as Logan's Run (the cool parts not the corny 70's damage!)
Obviously McGregor and Johansson are great. The other actors were as good. [...]

[20.02.2005] Bei DH gibt es einen Set-Bericht: Tag 78 von 86...
[...] After our interview with Michael Bay, he's like, "I've got some clips to show you," so I'm ecstatic and yell, "Cool!" In a typical '80s montage fashion, the clip was actually the ENTIRE movie from start to finish! After the clip I'm exclaimed, "Thanks Michael, now I don't have to see it!" He's replies, "NO NO NO this is the movie without any of the COOL sh-t!" True story.
The clip (or short movie) was loaded with sweet car chases, stand-offs, gun fights, explosions and one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time - an homage to the great John Woo. During one shot we see pigeons fluttering all over during a big shoot out, a la doves in a Woo film- hilarious stuff! In addition there is the classic "who's the real Lincoln?" scene. "I'm the real one, No I am...." It's ridiculous and cliché as hell, but we don't watch Michael Bay movies for the drama do we? Hell no, we watch them for the explosions! [...]

[14.02.2005] Bei AICN gibt es einen bebildeten Set-Bericht von Mr. Beaks...
[...] Ultimately, THE ISLAND is a smart, provocative package that will reflect the evolving sensibility of Michael Bay, a director oft derided for soulless spectacle, but, let’s face it, one of the few guys working today capable of conveying the epic, budget-busting scale that used to signify grandiose Hollywood entertainments (a dying breed as a result of the town’s newfound spasm of spending consciousness). I can already tell you he’s nailed the massive scope; Bay shot the hell out of his desert locations with the same bravado evinced by Peter Jackson in his lil’ hobbit movies. The only question left unanswered is whether he’s imbued it with a heart. [...]

Djimon Hounsou and Steve Buscemi are headed to "The Island" for DreamWorks and Michael Bay. Hounsou, who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Jim Sheridan's "In America," will play the head of security for the utopian community where the story takes place. No details were available on the Buscemi role. The film stars Ewan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson in a story penned by Caspian Tredwell-Owen about a harvested being who becomes self-aware and tries to escape the utopia where he is being kept. Johansson plays the only person he can trust and the carrier of the sponsor's child. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci also co-wrote the script. Marc Haimes is overseeing for the studio. Hounsou, whose other recent credits include "Beauty Shop" and "Constantine," is repped by the Gersh Agency and Brillstein Grey.

[21.09.2004] Bei DH gibt es ein Script-Review... SPOILER !!!
"It starts shooting next month for presumably a release sometime next summer. It's a big, dumb, loud piece of work -- when else would they release it? When it sold earlier this year, it went for a whopping $1-million and like most high-priced scripts your first reaction after reading it is -- "Why?" It's part Matrix, part Fugitive, even echoes of The Prisoner (although not anywhere that cerebral). Essentially the first third unfolds in a futuristic society where we learn that winning a lottery is the only chance you have of leaving this underground steel and glass city and moving to the only liveable piece of natural environment left in the world -- "the island".
Our hero is Lincoln (McGregor) who begins to suspect there's more to his world than what everyone is being told. It turns out he's right -- in fact, there is no island or future society, it's all a big hoax. Lincoln and his kind are actually clones. They're kept in this facility to act as spare parts whenever their uber-wealthy "sponsors" need a new set of lungs, or breasts, etc. Winning the lottery is in fact a death sentence. So Lincoln, along with his love interest Jordan (Johansson), manage to escape the facility and, with a little help, start a trek to Los Angeles to find his sponsor.(The sponsors themselves don't realize that their clones are living, breathing people; they think they're brain-dead blanks kept in status and unaware of everything.)
With his sponsor's help, Lincoln hopes, he can manage a way out of this. Naturally they are chased by goons sent by the facility's operators -- stock villains who want to keep their multi-billion-dollar secret a secret. All in all, pretty generic, deriative stuff. Certainly nothing to get excited about -- and probably no better than The Sixth Day, another forgettable flick. (Ok, so maybe Bay's explosions will be bigger).
McGregor steps in to Keanu's Neo-like role of wide-eyed innocent who discovers the world around him isn't what it seems. And for a while, there's the promise of perhaps something interesting in store for audiences, until it all turns into a very Fugitive-style cross-country chase. It will probably do OK box office -- the trailers will probably be mysterious enough to peak moviegoers' interest. But it's far too familiar territory to really catch on with audiences. If it comes out next summer, it will likely be clobbered by much better blockbusters, ranging from Batman Begins to Spielberg's War of the Worlds".
