Die beiden Freaks Jay & Silent Bob, gespielt von Jason Mewes und Kevin Smith, haben ihren allerersten Auftritt in "Clerks" (1994)... In dieser 27.000 Dollar Komödie schildert Regisseur und Darsteller Kevin Smith einen verrückten Tag im Leben des Angestellten Dante Hicks (Brian O'Halloran)...
Der Film gewann den "Filmmakers Trophy Award" bei den Sundance Filmfestspielen und wurde im Verhältnis zu den Produktionskosten der profitabelste Film des Jahres 1994... Kevin Smith konnte dadurch auch seine Comicsammlung zurückzukaufen, die er zuvor zu Geld machte, um "Clerks" zu finanzieren. Die Produktionsfirma View Askew, die er mit seinem Freund und Produzent Scott Mosier betreibt, wurde auf einen Schlag bekannt...
Smiths nächster Film "Mallrats" (1995) floppte und Kevin Smith wurde von den Kritikern für Tod erklärt... "Mallrats" spielt zeitlich vor "Clerks", und es geht um eine Gruppe von Jugendlichen, die in einem Einkaufszentrum ein Chaos anrichten wollen... Auch hier tauchen
Jay & Silent Bob auf...
Nachdem Kevin Smith den Misserfolg von "Mallrats" weggesteckt hatte, meldete er sich 1997 mit "Chasing Amy" (1997) zurück. In dem Film verliebt sich ein Mann in eine lesbische Frau. Der Film ist zeitlich gesehen ein Sequel von "Clerks"... Jay & Silent Bob sind dabei...
Das Drehbuch zu "Dogma" (1999), schrieb Kevin Smith bereits vor "Clerks", wollte aber mit der Produktion abwarten, bis er die Special Effects finanzieren konnte. In dem Film geht es um zwei gefallene Engel, die einen Weg zurück in den Himmel suchen. Der kontrovers diskutierte Film nimmt die katholische Kirche auf die Schippe. Wie seine anderen Filme fügt sich auch "Dogma" ins zeitliche Gerüst von Kevin Smiths "New Jersey"-Reihe ein. In "Chasing Amy" hält Jay zwei Tickets nach Chicago in den Händen, jene Stadt, in der "Dogma" beginnt...
Kevin Smiths Markenzeichen: Jay & Silent Bob natürlich, die u.a. auch einen Cameo-Auftritt in "Scream 3" absolvierten... "Star Wars"... Hockey... Filmübergreifende Verquickungen, so erzählt Alyssa in "Chasing Amy" Holden, gespielt von Ben Affleck, dass sie mit Shannon Hamilton geschlafen habe. Shannon Hamilton ist die Person, die Ben Affleck in "Mallrats" spielte...
Sollte sich der erfolgreiche Independent-Filmer jemals aus dem Geschäft zurückziehen, wird man ihn wohl in seinem Comic-Laden "Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash" in seinem Heimatort Red Bank wiederfinden...
In "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back" (2001) schlugen sie zurück, in "Jersey Girl" (2004) blieben sie verborgen...
Aber sie kamen wieder: In "Clerks 2: The Passion of the Clerks", der am 18. August 2006 in den US-Kinos startete... Ab 12. Juli 2007 unter dem Titel "Clerks 2 - Die Abhänger" auch in den deutschen Kinos...

[...] As with all of Smith's films, the jokes range from the gut-bustingly funny to the sound of crickets. Seriously, how many times can the line "Shut the fuck up" make you laugh? But Smith's observations about everything from the prospects of a Transformers movie to religion to "inter-species erotica" to trolls protecting the chastity of young women by hiding in their orifices are the stuff of legend.
And naturally the ongoing battle about which trilogy is the best (Star Wars or The Lord of the Rings), well that just never gets old. Beware all LOTR fans: Randal's one-minute reenactment of that sacred trilogy, as well as his take on racial slurs, is as sharp and cutting edge as anything Smith has ever written. [...]

[...] CLERKS II may be Smith's most enjoyable, if not simply his best, film. It's tight, it's consistently funny, it's clever, it makes you want to get up and dance at one point, it makes you want to toss your cookies at one point, and it makes you want to run through the streets yelling "Porch Monkey!" Also, after you see it, you'll be demanding that Smith makes and mass markets "Pillow Pockets" action figure the way he did Buddy Jesus.
The film still looks like a film made by a bunch of buddies on weekends, and Dante and Randall still have not become master thespians, but everyone from Smith on down have gotten much better and tighter and visually more interesting (the opening comes to mind). There are no dead spots, no misfires, and many a great moment. And it's really, truly about something: friendship and what happens to friends over a ten-year span. A lot of shit. You can tell that everyone involved had a helluva time reminiscing about how far (or not) they have come since they were a pack of nobodies 13 years ago making CLERKS for a buck and change...and the fondness they still feel for those days and for each other it shows up on the screen. [...] CLERKS II is fucking funny. It also counts. It isn't an empty bag of laughs, there's a lot of soul here. Like - Jason Lee's character. He's funny, Randal's back and forth with him is funny... but the scene ultimately has a sting that just underlines everything wrong with Randal's life. The shit he doesn't want to look at. After all... a new jack off walked into Mooby's... his life is worse. Isn't it?
Ultimately - I feel CLERKS II is a message movie wrapped in filth, pop culture and honest emotional characters. The message is Kevin's answer to how to live life right. Find what it is you can do that makes you happy each day and make that your own. Surround yourself with people you love, the right woman that fits into that life and makes it worth waking up for each and every day. [...]

[...] Clerks II has everything the fans want. Jeff Anderson is awsome as Randall whether he's being mean too people on the internet, having a geek discussion with Trevor Fehrman about star wars versus the lord of the rings (As Randall puts hit -All they did in LOTR was walk, even the fucking trees walked in those movies!!) or talking about that teenagers even like it when they go ass to mouth. Jeff Anderson has the best laughs in the movie but newcomer Fehram is hilarious as transformers and Lotr geek Elias and a great addition to the movie. Rosario Dawson plays the cute boss of Moobys perfectly and Brian is the yang to Randalls ying. Then we have the new and improved jay and Silent bob who have found christ. I'm not gonna say more but Jay Mewes kicks fucking ass in this movie and watching him dance to the boom box kicks ass.. [...]
