FILME A-Z

NBC has joined with DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc. to air two all-new, family-friendly animated holiday television specials based on the studio's blockbuster feature films, Monsters vs. Aliens and Madagascar, both featuring many of the characters as voiced by the original talent from the films.
The first of the 30-minute specials is titled, "Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space," and is based on the 2009 smash hit, Monsters vs. Aliens. It features the voices of cast members Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Kiefer Sutherland and Rainn Wilson (NBC's "The Office"). The special is set to air on Wednesday, October 28 (8-8:30 p.m. ET, repeating from 8:30-9 p.m. ET). [...]
"Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins from Outer Space" is produced by Latifa Ouaou and directed by Peter Ramsey from a screenplay by Adam F. Goldberg. The story continues after the events of Monsters vs. Aliens, as Susan Murphy (Witherspoon) and the Monsters now work with the U.S. government as special operatives. When an alien presence is detected in Susan's hometown of Modesto, California -- right before Halloween -- the team is dispatched to investigate. Everything appears normal, right down to the jack-o-lanterns peering out from every doorstep and windowsill. But when Halloween arrives, those innocent-looking carved pumpkins are revealed for what they really are -- mutant aliens. The altered pumpkins then start to implement their fiendish plan to take over Earth. The Monsters are there to combat the mutant gourds and try to smash their wicked scheme. [...]

[...] With the success of Monsters vs. Aliens, Katzenberg is considering a rematch there, too. "Oh, maybe," he said. "We're waiting for it to finish its run internationally, and then we'll kind of sit down and figure that out. But it's been a great success so far." [...]

[21.05.2009] THR.com meldet...
Nickelodeon has ordered a pilot from DreamWorks Animation for a series based on the firm's recent "Monsters vs. Aliens" movie, DWA CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg said Tuesday.
He mentioned the pilot order at the 37th Annual J. P. Morgan Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in Boston in an appearance that was Webcast.
DWA and Nick last week announced a deal on the co-production of "Kung Fu Panda: The Series" based on last year's DWA hit. The two also collaborate on the successful "The Penguins of Madagascar," for which, Katzenberg said Tuesday, the partners will launch an aggressive licensing campaign early next year. He said that TV hits make for some of the best licensing opportunities in the industry these days because they aren't event-driven like movies.
He predicted DWA's annual TV business could bring in annual revenue of $40 million-$60 million and grow from there. [...]

[14.03.2009] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Capone...
[...] I've seen a lot of 3-D in recent months, but this has got to be the best 3-D I've seen in an animated film. There's something about having the giant creatures interacting with smaller people that makes the 3-D pop off the screen, and without tossing stuff at the camera every five minutes. There's a scale and depth to this 3-D work that is unrivaled. One of the sequences the crowd at BNAT X saw was a fight scene on the Golden Gate Bridge. Holy crap, that is the absolute best scene in the movie. And seeing it a second time in the context of the completed film, I was even more impressed with it. Your jaw will collect bugs from being open for so long.
Now please understand, this movie is rated PG, which means it's aimed directly at the younger sect. But honestly, I had as much fun watching this as the kids in my audience. And being able to understand the clandestine adult humor and the site gags and more overt stuff, I may have even enjoyed it a little more than the youngsters. Co-director (along with Rob Letterman) Conrad Vernon was also a director on SHREK 2, probably the best melding of evergreen jokes, modern references, and innuendo in a animated work allegedly more for children. He knows where all the lines are drawn and exactly how far over them he can put his big toe. Sure the film is sweet and charming most of the time, but it's when things get a little ornery and mischievous that things really start to cook. There's a devilish undercurrent that props MONSTERS VS. ALIENS up and makes it something special. In case you couldn't tell, I had a blast watching this movie. [...]

[12.03.2008] CS! berichtet von der ShoWest...
[...] Katzenberg talked briefly about the plot for their March 27, 2009 animated film Monsters vs. Aliens and introduced the primary monster characters, all of which were influenced by classic monsters of the '50s. There's B.O.B. the Blob, voiced by Seth Rogen, The Missing Link (loosely based on the Creature of the Black Lagoon) is voiced by Will Arnett, Dr. Cockroach is a character voiced by Hugh Laurie who accidentally switched heads with a cockroach during an experiment gone wrong, and Reese Witherspoon is voicing Ginormica, who isn't exactly a 50-foot-woman, but she is 49 feet and 11". Insectosaur is a 350-foot high bug that's a "big baby" and Katzenberg joked that the animators wanted him to voice it, but he wasn't sure why. The monsters had been captured and locked up in Area 52 by General W.D. Monger, voiced by Kiefer Sutherland, but when aliens attack the earth, the President, voiced by Steven Colbert - yes, he actually does become president by the time of this movie - calls for the monsters to be released to save the earth. Katzenberg mentioned that the sequence that they'd show didn't include any of the monsters or aliens, but it did show the scene of the alien probe arriving on earth to begin the attack, as well as showing Colbert's President making contact.
The extended clip opened with a shot of the probe, a giant silo-like tower with a large eye at the top and antennas atop that look like strands of hair. The camera pulls back to show tanks and the military rallying around the landing site with a news reporter announcing that a UFO has landed in America (where apparently all aliens land). The military is all set to attack but they're holding until the President arrives on the scene to make first contact with the aliens. We get our first look at Colbert's President (who looks a bit like Jeff Goldblum with big hair) and he tells everyone to stand down while he approaches. There's a long staircase up the side of the alien probe and he starts walking up them slowly, grabbing a cup of water along the way. At the top of the stairs, there's a platform with a keyboard (a now antiquated Yamaha DX7 in fact) and he starts playing the familiar alien melody from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, getting the last note wrong, and he then gives a typical Star Trek Vulcan hand sign, but when that doesn't work, he starts playing "Axel F" the famous theme from Beverly Hills Cop and starts jammin' and groovin' to the tune, really getting into it.
Finally, a mechanical arm comes out of the left side of the probe with a hand that looks like it's ready to shake with the President, so he reaches out to shake the hand but he can't reach it, so he just touches the hand with a finger, which then changes shape, raises up and slams down on the platform where the President was standing. Then another mechanical arm comes out of the other side with a giant crane-like claw and another one, each one extending out and grabbing the sides of the landing area. As it starts pushing itself out of the ground, the staircase crumbles and the President frantically runs down the stairs, as they fall apart dramatically behind him and when he's back down on the ground from where he started, he shouts out, "Do something violent!" Tanks start firing at the probe, which has now sprouted giant legs from its body and has started to walk away. The tanks have little effect so the jet planes start attacking, firing rockets at the probe, one of them labeled with the greeting "E.T. Go Home" on the side. Those don't seem to be having much of an effect either, so the general calls for a full retreat, but in a last ditch effort, the President pulls out a sidearm and shouts "Eat Lead!" and fires at the probe to no avail, to which he muses, "I guess you like eating lead." He then runs into the helicopter screaming, "I'm a brave President!" and the clip ended. [...]

Activision announced yesterday that they will be releasing a "Monsters vs. Aliens" video game for their fiscal 2009 lineup which ends coincidently about the same time as the 3D Dreamworks Animation movie will be released in theaters (March 2009). [...]

[20.09.2007] CS! meldet...
DreamWorks Animation SKG, Inc., together with Paramount Pictures Corporation, a unit of Viacom Inc., announced today that Monsters vs. Aliens, DreamWorks Animation's first-ever film produced in stereoscopic 3-D technology, will be released into theatres on March 27, 2009. The film had been previously slated for its domestic release on May 15, 2009.
"I believe that next generation 3-D will make our CG films even more special and unique," said Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chief Executive Officer of DreamWorks Animation. "We are thrilled to have 'Monster vs. Aliens' as the first opportunity for audiences to enjoy this exciting new movie experience. Moving to a March release date, which has proven to be a great slot for family films, allows us to roll out our first 3-D project on the maximum amount of screens as the year's first big event film to hit the market in this new format."
"We are really excited to be distributing 'Monsters vs. Aliens,' the marriage of a new technology with the classic family entertainment audiences have come to expect and love from DreamWorks Animation," added Rob Moore, President of Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Paramount Pictures. "This new immersive 3-D experience will fully exploit the latest in exhibition technology-and with the March 27 release date, we'll be able to take full advantage by showing it in as many theaters with this advanced 3-D capability as possible."
Monsters vs. Aliens, which reinvents the classic '50s monster movie into an irreverent modern day action comedy, is being directed by Conrad Vernon (Shrek 2) and Rob Letterman (Shark Tale), produced by Lisa Stewart (I Think I Love My Wife) and co-produced by Jill Hopper and Latifa Ouaou.

[13.03.2007] JoBlo.com meldet...
[...] now that the 3-D technology has been fine-tuned we're getting the first fully developed 3-D CGI animated movie from DreamWorks. MONSTERS VS. ALIENS will be developed by DreamWorks Animation as an entirely 3-D production. Though Disney had applied 3-D technology to some of its films in post-production (CHICKEN LITTLE, MEET THE ROBINSONS), MONSTERS will be the first film to create two separate films (2-D and 3-D) from the outset. MONSTERS, previously titled REX HAVOC, follows an alien invasion of Earth and a monster hunter, Rex Havoc, enlists some of his former foes - Ick!, Dr. Cockroach, the 50,000 Pound Woman, and Insectosaurus (that's a concept of Insectosaurus below, which you can click on to see a bigger version of) - to help battle the aliens. DreamWorks is planning MONSTERS for a 2009 release after KUNG-FU PANDA and MADAGASCAR 2 in 2008. [...]

[22.09.2005] Arrow in the Head meldet...
[...] In Variety, an article discussing Dreamworks' future projects revealed that the studio is planning an animated version of REX HAVOC for release after 2009. Who or what is REX HAVOC? Glad you asked.
REX HAVOC was a comic put out by Warren that ran from 1984 to 1994 called Rex Havoc and the Ass-Kickers of the Fantastic (the team even had an emblem of a boot print superimposed over a pair of butt-cheeks). The story consisted of a team of experts out to kick the crap out of ghouls, ghosts and the like. Their leader is Rex, a fearless adventurer, who manages to lead the team despite severe brain damage brought on by a golf club-wielding vampire sneak attack. I kid you not, and it gets better. The film will be about Rex and the Ass-Kickers being called upon to battle aliens that have knocked out TV service. To help, he assembles a team of monsters with names like Ick!, Dr. Cockroach, and Insectosaurus.
Screenwriter Scott Rosenberg (of CON AIR fame) was attached to the script for a while, but it appears that Maya Forbes (The Larry Sanders Show) and Wally Wolodarsky (The Simpsons) are now doing the job. [...]
