"Mortal Kombat" (1995) ist der erste Teil einer Verfilmung der gleichnamigen Videospiel-Serie...

Der grausame Zauberer Shang Tsung (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, u.a. In Prinzessin Kitana (Talisa Soto, u.a.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe !!!
Midway veröffentlichte am 21. November 2008 "Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe" für PlayStation 3 und Xbox 360 - UNCUT auch in Deutschland !!!

[18.02.2010] Variety.com meldet...
Warner Bros. has been sued by Threshold Entertainment for alleged breach of contract over development of a third "Mortal Kombat" movie.
The suit was filed Tuesday in state court in Los Angeles, accusing Warners of "failing to cooperate and respond to Threshold and seeking to cut out Threshold."
Reps for Warner Bros. had no comment.
It's the third "Kombat" suit filed by Threshold over "Mortal Kombat," according to Threshold attorney Peter C. Bierne. The first two actions were filed in 2008 and 2009 against Warner and subsidiary New Line over accounting from the first "Mortal Kombat" film, released in 1995.
The latest suit asserts that Threshold has a property ownership of a third "Kombat" pic, due to agreements it made with Midway Games.
Warner Bros. picked up most of Midway Games' assets in bankruptcy court last year for the fire-sale price of $33 million, giving the studio rights to "Mortal Kombat," "Spy Hunter," "Joust" and several other game franchises.

[26.01.2010] B-D meldet...
[...] Warner Bros. Pictures has been looking to redo Mortal Kombat with Oren Uziel in talks to write. Based on Midway's popular 1992 video game, the franchise follows the best fighters from around the globe who are summoned to an island to compete in a tournament whose outcome will determine the fate of the entire planet. Uziel's Shimmer Lake made the 2009 black list, which features the best unproduced screenplays around Hollywood. Johnny Cage was modeled after Jean-Claude Van Damme. No word on the progress of the remake [...]

Warner Bros. has picked up most of Midway Games' assets in bankruptcy court for the fire-sale price of $33 million, giving the studio rights to "Mortal Kombat," "Spy Hunter," "Joust" and several other game franchises.
A Delaware bankruptcy court judge OK'd the deal last week, saying that the objections to the transaction had been resolved.
Midway filed for bankruptcy protection earlier this year. Sumner Redstone had sold his 87% stake to Mark E. Thomas last year for only $100,000 along with the assumption of $70 million of Midway debt.
Midway's creditors agreed last month to give Thomas a $5 million payment.
Warner declined to comment on its plans for Midway. [...]

[03.09.2008] Moviehole sprach mit dem "Mortal Kombat 3"-Regisseur Christopher 'mink' Morrison über den Stand der Dinge...
[...] "Mortal Kombat is still in the money stage", says the filmmaker. "As I have said in the past inquires independent films need to be financed before you start making money based creative decisions and as you may have noticed the economy in general is a little sluggish at the moment especially in Hollywood. Indy investors are more cautious at this particular time then recently so it takes longer than ever. MK more than likely will be an Indy film. The film's projected budget will be between 50& 60 mill so it is a bit more tricky than just running down to the ATM or writing a cashiers check(maybe one of those Jumbo checks like Publisher Clearing House winners). Currently Threshold is working out the financing through a studio and or equity situation. This will take as long as needs to take. I know the frustration this causes the awesome MK fans but that's the fact Jack...."
mink, whose other credits include the Steven Seagal vehicle "Into the Sun", says he's spoken to some of the original cast members from the previous two films about possibly reprising their roles - but hasn't committed to anyone.
"In regards to the casting, the director traditionally has a say in any ideas and suggests who she or he feels is best. But again in this situation MK3 is a work for hire under Threshold (who are the creatives on most of the non MK game products)and they have final say along with Midway as far as the cast goes. So they will make that call. In regards to the past cast they and myself have met with a lot of the previous cast and they are all in the mix but as the money must come first so casting is a still a few steps away. So for now efforts are best spent on the non money creative for someone like myself in regards to visual style, locations, photography style and concept art ideas. So while we wait for the green light as they say I am prepping and developing my movie 13 Chambers with Lawrence Bender Productions." [...]

[08.02.2008] Moviehole meldet...
Filmmaker mink, attached to direct the third installment - or is it a reboot? - of the "Mortal Kombat" movie series, dropped by the compound today to answer questions about the video-game cum film.
The status of the film, as of today, is that "...the Producers are working out their deals with the studio and arranging their financing", says the director, who helmed Steven Seagal's "Into the Sun".
mink says the project isn't so much a sequel as it is a "re-envisioning(if that is a word) of the Mortal Kombat franchise from top to bottom. Todays audience is a savvy involved group so the film must be A plus plus in every area in order to capture the magic of the first film. It is taking the entire concept to the next level across the board in every area visual design, story, cast, FX, photography and most importantly the fighting scenes. The original Mortal Kombat game was born a child of many visual loves by the creators at midway so this latest version borrows heavily from that pioneering spirit and must be thought out and executed at the highest level in order for it succeed in today's market place. This is no overnight task.''
Though the IMDB has Christopher Lambert returning as Rayden, mink says casting hasn't begun yet.
"First things first, is the way these larger projects need to be done. It is still in the business stages but once that is squared away all casting options will be explored along with the continued development of the best story line."
The last we heard the film was supposed to be shot in Louisiana.
''At one point Louisiana was on the table for various reasons. It still maybe in the future if that is appropriate place to work for the picture''.
Though Drew McWeeny and Scott Swan wrote the original draft of the script, "the writing has been handled by the Producers and their writers at Threshold Studios in conjunction with Midway, of course." [...]

[22.11.2007] Der TV-Sender VOX zeigt heute um 22.55 Uhr "Mortal Kombat"... Die Wiederholung läuft um 3.25 Uhr...

[02.10.2007] Moviehole meldet...
[...] Over on the IMDB, "Mortal Kombat 3" director Mink tells fans that the new film doesn’t have anything to do with the others in the series - it’s a restart. "That film and the new film have nothing in common despite the MK title. Different scripts, different film makers, different time and two different visions so we will be ok. I appreciate your candid thoughts and they are noted but I can not and won't spend my time looking at some other work and trying to over analysis it or compare what I am doing to it. I get up ever day with the intention of pushing my stories and craft to the next level and my projects are going to be the best they can be always including this one. The film is a re-invsioning of a beloved franchise much as Batman Begins was a re-invisioning of a franchise that had multiple movie versions..." Having said that, original cast members including Christopher Lambert and Linden Ashby, have met with Mink about reprising their roles in the new film.

[15.04.2007] Der TV-Sender Kabel1 zeigt heute um 22.20 Uhr "Mortal Kombat 2"...

[30.03.2007] Moviehole meldet...
Just like the long-gestating "X-Files" sequel, the third "Mortal Kombat" movie has been swimming in the Development Hell Channel for quite a few years now. Apparently, and again like the former, it’s delay can mainly be attributed to legal issues.
Insider ‘Rayden’ gave us a quick run-down on what the deal is with it- whilst confirming that the film won’t actually be a prequel or a sequel but more of a restart.
"The movie is not going to be a prequel, sequel, or in any form be related to the previous 2 movie. Pretty much like Batman Begins, is going to restart the series with new concepts, stories, etc." "Threshold had to wait till around early 2000 for the contract with New Line Cinema to end (Threshold blames New Line for the disappointing Annihilation, talking about forced release dates, limited budget, no understanding of anything, etc.)
"The reason it is taking so long is the script, so many parts are involved. The team at Threshold (the ones that holds the right to MK) are constantly writing drafts (along with the director), which they have to send to Midway (makers of the game) so the creator of the game (Ed Boon) adds notes and some input to the draft, then to the studio (rumored to be Lionsgate at this moment)."
The director of the film, Mink, has also been fielding fans questions on the IMDB Boards, we’re told.
In short, here’s some of the director’s comments on the movie :
- "It is a new telling of the MK universe drawing from the whole universe. As I have said think of it like Batman Begins".
- "Threshold(Larry Kassanoff) has a staff of writer's working on the script. The script drafts interacts with all parties involved being addressed with extensive sets of notes. The script is then revised according to these notes and then pushed through the approval process again. This is how the project proceeds. In regards to finishing most scripts it takes along time. Yes certain projects get fast tracked or fast followed into production and they bang the script out as fast as the writer can type and fix the script as they go but this money driven. As most projects finalize the script first in order to trigger all the financing into effect. Which then triggers casting etc... Today most financiers have alot to say about the scripts as it is their money on the line. So usually when you see a movie that has 11 or 12 producers on the slate each one of them has had a say at the table about the script equal to their involvement financially. As I have said in past on this project Threshold, Midway and the studio all have one or two producers each making comments on the script. So that is where we are at the moment. All of us working on the script with the staff of writers".
- "Casting adjourned for the moment before we got that far. As I have said in other posts we went back to the script after the initial movement on the project and have been rewriting(per the partied involved Threshold, Studio, Midway) since so no additional casting thoughts and or processes were even continued. As soon as the script is done we will proceed with casting again and all options in all casting areas are still on the table 100%..." - (He has confirmed that he’s met with Christopher Lambert and Robin Shou though)

[05.08.2005] 2theadvocate.com meldet...
The producers of the "Mortal Kombat" video games and movies would like to build a $150 million studio and amusement park on the banks of the Mississippi River, which would be the first of its kind anywhere, the company's chief executive said Monday. [...]
Meanwhile, Threshold Entertainment, which is planning to film "Mortal Kombat III" in Louisiana, is interested in building out 100,000-150,000 square feet of production space that would double as a tourist attraction.
"I believe there's an extraordinary opportunity to build a state-of-the-art production studio-slash-Hollywood theme park and training facility right in the middle of town," CEO Larry Kasanoff said.
"There would be actual movies being made there, and an observation platform to watch.
"It would also be a training center because you guys have an awesome tax credit but are so lacking in experienced crew base." [...]

[11.02.2005] Moviehole meldet...
[...] After many a mixed-bag of rumours, Moviehole can confirm that filming on the third film, title "Mortal Kombat : Devastation", will begin in May.
Essentially skipping over the events of the second film, "Devastation" reunites the cast of the original - Christopher Lambert as Rayden, Linden Ashby as Johnny Cage, Robin Shou as Liu Kang, Chris Casamassa as Scorpion with Talisa Soto and Sandra Hess in talks to reprise their roles as Kitana and Sonya Blade, respectively - with the remaining parts being cast as we speak.
The film is being developed by Mink ["Into the Sun"] and Threshold Entertainment. The Asst.Producer is Neil James. [...]
