[...] When ComingSoon.net spoke to Soderbergh about this new project, we were just as curious about the recent announcement that the director plans to return for a third time to do another Danny Ocean movie, and we wondered if the director made those movies to be able to finance smaller films like Bubble. "No, I love making those," he told us. "It's just balance. I want to be able to move in as many and whatever direction I want, and part of that is that every once in awhile, you have to make a movie that everyone has heard of. Both the second one and this one were generated by me saying that I want to do another one. Certainly, nobody's asking for this one. I just had another idea and went to everybody, and everybody said 'Fine.'
"I checked with them before we even got started, just to make sure," he continued when asked whether the entire cast, including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon and the rest would return like they did in Ocean's 12. "I said that I had an idea and I want to go back, but I'm not doing it unless everybody is on board."
"As a director, I get to do things in those movies that I can't do anywhere else, so they're fun for me," he said, explaining the appeal of the "Ocean" franchise to him. "They're not easy in the sense that I work hard on them. You really have to show up every day with ideas to keep things moving along, and sometimes that's hard, because there are days when you don't have any ideas. It's also difficult to find material that is really commercial that doesn't make you feel bad in the morning, so these are great opportunities for me." [...]
Jerry Weintraub has brought former Warner Bros. executive Rob Guralnick back to The Lot as his producing partner and president of WB-based Jerry Weintraub Productions.
Variety says the move comes as Weintraub gets a script by Brian Koppelman and David Levien for Ocean's Thirteen.
Weintraub is in the early stages of plotting a third installment of the "Ocean's Eleven" franchise with director Steven Soderbergh and his Section Eight partner George Clooney. The aim is to put the film in production later this year. [...]

[...] The original "11" are all back, with the addition of Julia Roberts now making the total to 12. Obviously with 12 stars sharing the screen, each character is going to get limited face time. However, what they did with this cast was atrocious. Bernie Mac - gets a total of 2 or 3 lines. Andy Garcia? Shows up to get his money back with his best menacing face in the first 5 minutes, then completely disappears for the rest of the movie. Matt Damon plays his character for laughs this time as the young guy learning the ropes, the rookie so to speak. Brad Pitt is still eating his way through scenes, but he and Clooney's witty repartee mostly falls flat this time. [...]

[...] "I really like those Oceans movies. I’m proud to be a part of them. I haven’t seen it yet, but yeah, I like playing the guy who’s kind of hiding in the corner".
Damon says the cast - which also includes George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts - are keen to make a third "Oceans" movie. "I know all the actors would keep going with it. Carl Reiner said to me the other day ‘Tell me if we’re doing a third one, because I’ll stay alive for it’", he laughs. "It’s a lot of heavy lifting for Steven [Soderbergh, the director], but if he wants to do it, everyone will do it". [...]

Matt Damon called into Boston-area radio station WBCN 104.1 FM and said that all European location photography for "Ocean's Twelve" has finished, and they're heading to LA for soundstage set photography for the next month. The fact that he has two more movies after O12 has put a dampener on plans to co-write a screenplay with Ben Affleck, along with reducing his participation in the next "Project Greenlight" series.

[...] Italian newspaper Il Giorno revealed that George Clooney has chosen Italian actress Martina Stella (L'Ultimo Bacio) in the role of an Italian student for the upcoming sequel.
Oscar-winning actress Catherine Zeta-Jones will join George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle, Andy Garcia, and the rest of the all-star ensemble cast of Ocean's Eleven in its much-anticipated sequel, Ocean's Twelve, scheduled to begin production this April for Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures. The film is directed by Steven Soderbergh and produced by Jerry Weintraub in association with Section Eight. The screenplay is by George Nolfi.
Ocean's Twelve reunites the original cast in another crime caper, this time set in Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, Chicago, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles. Bernie Mac, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Vincent Cassel, Elliott Gould, Eddie Jemison, and Carl Reiner also star. [...]

Bei CS! gibt es folgende Variety-Meldung...
Filming on Warner Bros.' Ocean's Twelve has been delayed until April, George Clooney told Variety. Ironically, it's because Brad Pitt suffered a Achilles' heel injury on the set of the studio's Troy, in which he plays - you guessed it - the warrior Achilles.
During the delay, Clooney will visit his production company's The Jacket, which starts filming January in Scotland. He'll also work with partner Steven Soderbergh on the late summer start of their film, Syriana, well as another "live" TV drama, this one based on the battles between Ed Murrow and the HUAC's Joe McCarthy for CBS.
Clooney says the '50s witch hunt parallels the threats by the current Patriot Act.
Bei CS! gibt es ein Interview mit George Clooney...
[...] "We start March 1st. We're shooting a little bit in Paris, a little bit in Amsterdam and then in Rome for a while. It's going to be fun, we're going to have a good time. Everybody came back and the first thing that happens is that everybody starts talking, they go, 'Okay, we've had a big hit' so immediately it became these big negotiations which was really interesting. Then we all sat in a room and said, 'Look. Let's do it for five percent less and then we can say we're there because we want to be there because that's truly why we're there.' So, we all just said okay let's do it that way. We had a good time doing the last one and we make good money on the backend so if it works, it works and if it doesn't we get to make a movie together."

Empire Online meldet...
[...] While the first film focused on a single, elaborate heist to take the proceeds from three of Las Vegas' casinos, Ocean's 12 will involve no less than three separate heists for Danny Ocean and his team of skilled larcenists. Upping the scale, Soderbergh will be trying to top the first film without exceeding its budget. The film will also be filmed entirely in Europe this time around, providing a new setting - and presumably some cheaper production costs - for the sequel. [...]

Ted Griffin, the original screenwriter of soderbergh's remake of Ocean's 11, and who was hired to pen a sequel script, may have been replaced by another writer and movie script. According to a report that appeared in this week's Variety, screenwriter George Nolfi has been asked to rewrite his script Honor Among Thieves to fit as a sequel to Ocean's 11. Honor Among Thieves was purchased two years ago by Warner Bros. as a possible film for John Woo to direct but the project never got a greenlight.

Variety reports that Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures are eyeing a March 2004 start date for Ocean's Twelve, with director Steven Soderbergh and star George Clooney ready for encores.

The catalyst for its move toward the starting gate came when WB asked Timeline screenwriter George Nolfi to rewrite his script Honor Among Thieves screenplay with an Ocean's Eleven bent.

Entertainment Weekly spoke to producer Jerry Weintraub who says the Ocean's Eleven sequel script should be ready for director Steven Soderbergh near the end of next year (2003), promising "George and Matt and Don Cheadle and the whole gang will be back."
It was announced earlier this year that Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures had tapped Ted Griffin to write the sequel. His script for the first film gave enough edge and coolness to the stale Rat Pack original that it enticed the team to make the new film.
