FILME A-Z

Gemeinsam mit Athenes Tochter Annabeth (Alexandra Daddario, u.a. "The Hottest State") und dem Satyr Grover (Brandon T. Jackson, u.a. "Tropic Thunder") macht Percy sich auf die abenteuerliche Suche. Doch den dreien läuft die Zeit davon, denn sie wissen: Wenn ihre Mission fehlschlägt, droht ein Krieg unter den Göttern...

"Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief" - unter der Regie von Chris Columbus (u.a. "Harry Potter und der Stein der Weisen", "Mrs. Doubtfire", "Kevin - Allein zu Haus") - kam am 11. Februar 2010 in die deutschen Kinos... Das Sequel "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters" soll am 28. März 2013 in die deutschen Kinos kommen...

[18.06.2011] 24 Frames berichtet über das Sequel...
"Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" was a reasonably sized hit when it came out in the winter of 2010: The mythology-infused film based on Rick Riordan's bestseller drew $89 million in U.S. box office and another $137 million around the world.
Now a sequel hopes to build on that fan base.
According to a source familiar with the production who asked not to be identified because of the sensitive nature of discussions, studio Fox 2000 has exercised the option on star Logan Lerman, essentially meaning that the young actor is locked down to reprise his role as Percy Jackson in a new picture. The company has also hired a director in Thor Freudenthal, best known for helming the similarly boy-oriented "Diary of a Wimpy Kid;" he'll pick up where "Lightning Thief" director Chris Columbus left off. (Columbus will only produce this new movie.)
As we reported in March, Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, the well-regarded writers of "Ed Wood" and kid hit "Agent Cody Banks," have been brought on to write a script. The idea, the source said, is to move quickly with a new film and come out as early as 2012.
The first "Percy Jackson" film introduced the world to an ordinary boy who discovers that he is the son of the Greek god Poseidon. Riordan's second book, subtitled "The Sea of Monsters," follows Percy and his group of friends as they head to the titular sea to find the mythical Golden Fleece, as well as to free a friend who has been captured there. It's expected, though, that the sequel will draw from other Percy Jackson titles as well as "Sea of Monsters."
It's easy to understand a studio's interest in the Percy Jackson property: In addition to the five books Riordan wrote in the series, he's penned numerous spinoffs, including the popular "The Demigod Files."
Any new Percy Jackson movie would need to contend with the age question: Lerman is already 19 in real life (the first film aged the character up from 12 to 17) while the property's core fan base can see their tastes change pretty quickly.
Then again, there is this tantalizing fact: After this summer there will presumably still be audiences hungering for movies about boys on fantastical adventures, but no "Harry Potter" to sate them.

[03.03.2011] 24 Frames berichtet über das Sequel...
Fans waiting for a sequel to "Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief" may not have to wait that much longer.
Fox 2000, the 20th Century Fox label behind the adventure franchise, is putting a follow-up project to the 2010 young-adult film in active development and could shoot it as early as this summer, according to a person who has been briefed on the project's status but was not authorized to speak publicly about it. The movie would be subtitled "The Sea of Monsters" and derive from the second book in Rick Riordan's five-book series.
The studio has hired Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski -- who wrote "Ed Wood" and "Agent Cody Banks" -- to write a script for the new film, which they are currently doing. But the person cautioned that the project is still very much at the development phase; the movie, for instance, does not yet have a director.
Chris Columbus, who helmed the first installment, is not expected to return, although he will produce the picture, as will "Breaking Dawn" producer Karen Rosenfelt, who also produced "Lightning Thief."
The lead cast members, headed by Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson, will come back, according to the person who was briefed.
A Fox spokeswoman declined to comment. [...]
A "Percy Jackson" sequel had been a question mark since the original came out a little over a year ago. Riordan's books are hugely popular, with the series spending more than three years on the New York Times bestseller list. The original film was a modest hit, fueled by its performance overseas: It grossed a decent $89 million in the U.S. but pulled in an additional $137 million around the world.
Young-adult movies tend to spawn sequels relatively quickly, as studios worry that both a cast and an audience can grow out of a franchise. But one person familiar with the project said that Fox believes that the ongoing popularity of the books is more than sufficient to overcome a potential two-year lag between films.

[30.06.2009] SCI FI Wire meldet...
[...] "Percy Jackson's a very serious movie," Columbus said. "It's comedic, but it's only comedic in a way that an Indiana Jones movie can be comedic. So I think in terms of comparing it to something like Clash of the Titans, it is more of an Indiana Jones-meets-Greek-mythology [movie], as opposed to a pure period-piece Greek myth, Clash of the Titans."
Columbus has taken some liberties with the source material: Maybe not every sequence from the book is in the movie, but maybe he came up with some better ideas. "Just some of the creatures have been changed," Columbus said. "We have sort of a breathtaking hydra sequence that replaces a sequence that used to take place at the Seattle [St. Louis] Arch. Our version of Hades is a little different. There are other changes here and there. Camp Half-Blood is a lot more dangerous, a lot more serious than it was in the book."
Columbus has also cast Uma Thurman as Medusa. On the set, Thurman wore a blue skullcap painted with dots for computer-graphics artists to add her hair of snakes in post-production. Otherwise, this Medusa is as hot as Uma Thurman.
"Well, Medusa has to be extremely seductive so she can get people to open their eyes and look into her eyes," Columbus said. "So she is a combination of one of the most frightening creatures I've ever seen on screen yet with a very seductive voice." [...]

[17.04.2009] THR.com meldet...
Catherine Keener has joined the cast of Fox 2000's "Percy Jackson," Christopher Columbus' adaptation of Rick Riordan's fantasy-adventure book series.
The books, which put Greek gods in modern times, involve Poseidon's half-human son, Percy, who is on a quest in modern America to prevent a war among the gods.
Columbus and Craig Titley wrote the adaptation.
Keener plays Percy's mother, who has battled to protect her son from otherworldly forces but has been abducted by Hades.
The actress joins a strong lineup that includes Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd and Melina Kanakaredes. Logan Lerman plays Percy.
Keener, who next appears in "The Soloist" with Robert Downey Jr. and Jamie Foxx, just wrapped Fox Searchlight's untitled Duplass brothers project with John C. Reilly, Jonah Hill and Marisa Tomei.
Columbus, Michael Barnathan and Karen Rosenfelt are producing "Percy," shooting in Vancouver. [...]

[26.03.2009] THR.com meldet...
Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Sean Bean, Kevin McKidd and Melina Kanakaredes are heading to Mount Olympus.
The quintet has been cast in Fox 2000's fantasy-adventure adaptation "Percy Jackson" as classical Greek gods Chiron (Brosnan), Medusa (Thurman), Zeus (Bean), Poseidon (McKidd) and Athena (Kanakaredes). Aries, Hades and Persephone have not yet been cast.
The film, being directed by Chris Columbus, is shooting in Vancouver for a February release.
Columbus and Craig Titley have adapted the screenplay from Rick Riordan's best-selling children's novel "The Lightning Thief." The Greek mythology-inflected book involves Poseidon's half-human son, Percy, who's on a quest across modern America to prevent a war among the gods.
Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon T. Jackson have already been cast as the book's lead teenagers.
The all-star casting is reminiscent of the 1981 fantasy film "Clash of the Titans," which showcased Laurence Olivier as Zeus, Ursula Andress as Aphrodite, Claire Bloom as Hera and Jack Gwillim as Poseidon.
"Lightning Thief" is the first of five novels about Percy Jackson and the Olympians -- the fifth, "The Last Olympian," is due in stores in May. The studio hopes to spin the books into a franchise in the "Harry Potter" mold. [...]

[19.03.2009] THR.com meldet...
Alexandra Daddario has nabbed the lead female role in Fox 2000's "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief."
The actress joins Logan Lerman and Brandon T. Jackson in the fantasy-adventure movie being directed by Chris Columbus. Columbus and Craig Titley have adapted the screenplay from Rick Riordan's bestselling children's novel.
The Greek mythology-inflected book involves Poseidon's half-human son, Percy, who's on a quest across modern America to prevent a war among the gods. Daddario will play Athena's 18-year-old daughter, Annabeth, a warrior at Camp Half-Blood with Percy and potential romantic foil.
"Lightning Thief" is the first of five novels about Percy Jackson and the Olympians -- the fifth, "The Last Olympian," is due in stores in May. The studio hopes to spin the books into a franchise in the "Harry Potter" mold; Columbus directed and/or produced three of those films for Warner Bros.
Columbus, Michael Barnathan and Karen Rosenfelt are producing the film, which begins shooting in Vancouver in April.
Daddario, repped by Gersh and Harvest Management, appeared in "The Squid and the Whale," "The Hottest State" and "The Babysitters."

[03.03.2009] Variety.com meldet...
Logan Lerman and Brandon T. Jackson have landed the leading roles in Fox 2000's "Percy Jackson."
Chris Columbus will helm the adventure/fantasy about the titular schoolboy (Lerman) whose world is turned upside-down when he discovers that his father is actually the Greek god Poseidon. Story kicks off with Percy becoming the prime suspect when Zeus' master lightning bolt is stolen. The boy has just 10 days to find and return the stolen property to bring peace to the warring gods.
Jackson will play Percy's best friend Grover, a satyr. Fox 2000 is looking to place a number of big-name thesps in the smaller roles of the gods. Lensing is skedded to begin in April in Europe.
Craig Titley and Columbus adapted from "The Lighting Thief," the first of five novels in Rick Riordan's "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" series.
Karen Rosenfelt, Michael Barnathan and Columbus are producing.
Lerman, best known for his supporting role in "3:10 to Yuma," played one of Mel Gibson's sons in "The Patriot." He most recently starred with Renee Zellweger in "My One and Only."
Jackson's credits include "Tropic Thunder," "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and the upcoming "Tooth Fairy." He was named one of Variety's "10 Comics to Watch" in 2008.

[17.04.2007] Variety.com meldet...
Chris Columbus is lining up to direct and produce author Rick Riordan's fantasy tome "The Lightning Thief" for Fox 2000 through his 1492 Pictures banner.
Maverick's Greg Mooradian and Karen Rosenfelt also are producing.
"Lightning Thief" is the first book in Riordan's series "Percy Jackson and the Olympians."
Storyline revolves around a young boy who discovers that he's the descendant of a Greek god, and his quest to quell a battle between mythological deities.
The project brings Columbus back to his root family/fantasy genre that includes "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets," "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Home Alone," among others.
Columbus' producing credits "Night at the Museum" "Christmas With the Kranks" and "Rent."
"Lightning Thief" has sold more than 500,000 copies in the U.S. and was a New York Times bestseller.
