"The Punisher" (2004) ist die Verfilmung des gleichnamigen Comics und die erste Regie-Arbeit des Drehbuchautors Jonathan Hensleigh (u.a. "Armageddon", "Jumanji 1 & 2")...
Nach einem Spezialeinsatz versucht der Agent Frank Castle (Thomas Jane, u.a. "Dreamcatcher", "Buffy", "Deep Blue Sea") sich aus den Fängen des Mob zu befreien, wo er als Undercover-Agent eingeschleust war. Das hat zur Folge, dass seine Familie von den Gangstern, die er verraten hat, hingerichtet wird. Er verliert jeglichen Lebenssinn und ändert seine Identität in die des Punishers, versessen darauf das Verbrechen an seiner Familie durch Selbstjustiz zu bestrafen...
Sein Gegenspieler ist Howard Saint (John Travolta, u.a. "Pulp Fiction", "Grease"), der seiner kriminellen Vergangenheit entkommen und ehrlich geworden war, doch durch die Ermordung seines Sohnes erneut zu einem brutalen Verbrecher mutierte...
Bereits 1989 entstand unter dem Titel "The Punisher" eine Verfilmung mit Dolph Lundgren (u.a. "Rocky IV", "James Bond 007 - Im Angesicht des Todes") in der Titelrolle...

Obviously, speaking about a sequel is quite premature. But on a hypothetical level, do you have any idea in order to tell another Punisher story?
There is one specific Punisher book that I think should be adapted and I have a feeling the fans would totally dig it on screen.
I very much doubt there is a Punisher sequel in my future, but if the time ever comes I will share my two cents with Ray who I'm sure will be back for more. [...]

Holy smokes, I go away and shoot some kids stuff for Disney, and the whole world is a different color when I return. Again I appear here to dispel rumors. Please believe:
Lexi is not off the film
Lexi is still involved in the edit process
The film is not (nor could it ever be) PG-13
Today I saw a cut that ran 91 minutes
Lexi did in fact get married
Lexi is an incredibly talented director, and this film kicks major ass, as will be proven when it is released IN THEATRES DECEMBER 5th
The film is most certainly not all exploding heads, but will reveal a great deal of Franks personna and pain
This film has been difficult from the begining, from a bitter Canadian winter, to endless nights, to rampant sickness, Lexi has fought to make a killer Punisher film for fans and non fans alike.
Initially we were to release in September, but for whatever reason (not the quality of the film or edit IMHO) it was decided to release in December. That extra time has given everyone a chance to put their two cents worth in, but rest assured, Lexi is still stearing the boat, and she is a great captain.
When I hear vicious unfounded troll rumors like the "film was unwatchable" or "a total mess" it makes my blood boil. I want to punish the corrupt. People sit on their fat asses trolling the internet, people that have never even looked through a motion picture camera, and make judgements on a work of art that they've never seen, it's like saying a baby will be ugly before it is born, I can't freaking wait for this film to come out and prove the nay-sayers wrong.
Sorry for the rant, I just love something wonderful you have yet to see [...]

Latino Review berichtet über "einschneidende Änderungen"...
Following up on an earlier article, one of my contacts deep within the bowels of Hollywood and close to the Punisher: War Zone project (source will not be named. Sorry!) told me today that the big fight over the Punisher project is Lionsgate wants a PG-13 cut to be released.
We already know that Lexi Alexander has allegedly been fired from the film. Her own website doesn't even mention anything about the Punisher movie anymore. You would think that even if she were a consultant on the project, she'd be mentioning this huge comic book movie coming out later this year, but that isn't the case.
Of course, Lionsgate can always say, "This was never intended to be PG-13. We always had an R rating in mind." but I trust Hollywood as far as I can throw it. I'm sure there's some Lionsgate exec thinking this film can do what The Dark Knight has done with a PG-13 rating. [...]

Wow, I was psyched and surprised to see the trailer, I had no clue it was coming out so early.
I'm also blown away that there is such a huge reaction to it. The good, the bad, I love it all. I've been getting emails
from all over the world and heard from friends I've known in the Karate and Kickboxing circuit whom I haven't spoken
to in years. I'm starting to realize how huge The Punisher fan base is.
I'm not sure what kind of impression I would get from this trailer if I didn't actually know the film. I am utterly impressed,
though, they managed to find that much PG rated action footage at all. It had to be a challenge to cut a trailer from our
action stuff without showing any gore and blood.
I've been told that you can't even show heads blowing up in red-band trailers. I hope that's not true because that would
suck. It's weird to see Castle shoot all those bullets and not see the thugs who are catching them. That's the best fucking part about it!!! [...]

Screenwriter Kurt Sutter has removed his screenwriting credit from Marvel and Lionsgate's superhero reboot "Punisher: War Zone" set for release in September.
The scribe says on his official blog that his take "tried to rip Frank Castle from the comic book world and place him in the real streets of NYC... He's a tortured, highly skilled soldier with a really bad anger problem. I always felt we should see Frank in some place uber-real and gritty."
However the final script has been "rewritten almost completely" into "the perfect comic book formula -- simple story, very obvious dialog and the inclusion of as many characters from the anthology that a movie will allow...it will do exactly what a comic book movie should do -- fill seats, setup a sequel."
The news comes as surprising considering director Lexi Alexander has boasted about her plans to deliver a darker and grittier tone.

I don't know what it is with this film, but apparently, the price of getting it right seems to be complete torture of both the crew and cast. Ha, ha. This time, though, we all seem to be less bothered by the conditions, mainly because we look forward to seeing each other again to complete a film we are all very proud of. [...]

[...] It's done. Well, except one exterior scene that we couldn't shoot because of the snowstorm, which we will have to shoot in the near future.
I'm sorry I haven't been blogging, but trust me when I tell you, every spare minute I had outside of work was used to catch as much sleep as possible. 40 nights of shooting in the freezing cold. I'm surprised my cast & crew showed up every single night. I was lucky. Everybody was great and really involved in the film.
There were a few surreal incidents that happened during the shoot. One was that for the first week of shooting, every time Ray Stevenson stepped in front of the camera, it started raining. [...]
