Übrigens: Ein "Rocky Horror Picture Show" Remake ist in Vorbereitung...

[20.10.2010] Deadline liefert Neues zum lange geplanten Remake...
Glee creator Ryan Murphy just finished an episode of his hit show that is devoted to the camp classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. By the time it airs October 26, Murphy might be in a deal to direct the feature film remake. I'm told that he's being courted by Fox 2000 to direct a remake of the 1975 musical, which has grossed north of $100 million and is considered the longest running theatrical release in film history because it still packs the faithful into midnight shows. The project is taking shape at Fox 2000, with Peter Chernin producing along with Lou Adler.
Murphy hasn't committed, but he has met. Aside from being very hands on with his hit show, Murphy is also exploring a spring start to direct Mark Ruffalo in The Normal Heart, a feature adaptation of the Larry Kramer play about AIDS written when the disease was a death sentence and nobody seemed to be helping. Murphy also got paid $5 million from Sony Pictures Entertainment to write and direct a romantic comedy that would re-team him with his Eat, Pray, Love star Julia Roberts. The original Rocky Horror Picture Show, written by cast member Richard O'Brien and director Jim Sharman, launched Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick and had a cast that included O'Brien, Nell Campbell and Meat Loaf in a raucous re-telling of the Frankenstein story. Can Murphy resist coming up to the lab to see what's on the slab?

[14.08.2008] BBC News meldet...
A remake of cult 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show is being produced without the blessing of its creator Richard O'Brien, he has told the BBC.
It was announced on Wednesday that the new version, which will be co-financed by Sky Movies in the UK and MTV in the US, would be co-produced by O'Brien.
But he told the BBC he would not be involved "in any way".
"I have no view on whether it should be remade but it doesn't have my blessing," he added. [...]
Sky announced on Wednesday that Lou Adler, executive producer on the original film, would return in the same role, while O'Brien would co-produce.
But O'Brien told the BBC: "I'm not co-producing it and I won't be involved in any way.
"The first I heard about it was when people sent me cuttings from US papers."
Sky said the cast and director of the new version are yet to be announced.
Lou Adler said: "The Rocky Horror phenomenon has a life of its own that has reincarnated itself in numerous ways since its birth.
"Our hope has always been that each new endeavour and rebirth will expose the Rocky Horror experience to new audiences and expand the fan base."
He said the original film would continue to be enjoyed "by new fans and old alike".
Jim Sharman, who co-wrote the original screenplay and directed the film, said: "The original has some qualities that can't be reproduced but a remake could have its own very different strengths and qualities."
The new film will have its UK premiere on the Sky Movies channel.
The film started life as stage show The Rocky Horror Show in 1973.
It was adapted for cinema as The Rocky Horror Picture Show two years later and has generated an enthusiastic and dedicated following.
Audiences to both the stage and screen versions are encouraged to dress up like the show's characters.

[30.09.2002] CS! meldet...
Columnists Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith talked to Rocky Horror Picture Show producer Lou Adler about the new version that's in the works.
Adler still intends to produce a new version of the horror movie spoof for Fox, but "now we're going to wait till March and probably do it for next Halloween." He has Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert filmmaker Stephan Elliott lined up to direct the new "Rocky Horror" and Moulin Rouge! composer Marius De Vries to add original music.
The producer makes it clear he doesn't think it's possible to improve on the original movie, which co-starred Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick and Meat Loaf, among others. "But it's a piece that gets performed all the time. I'm sure you're aware of what goes on in theaters," he says, referring to the popular "Rocky Horror" art house experience, complete with crowds who dress up as their favorite characters.

[07.08.2002] SF Wire sprach mit Susan Sarandon...
[...] she wants nothing to do with a proposed remake - not even a cameo. "I'm boycotting the Rocky Horror Picture Show organization," she said in an interview. "They should have shared some of the wealth from Rocky Horror. For me, it's the principle of the thing. There are other people involved with that movie who need some money, and they should spread it out a little bit. It's been a golden egg for the longest time, and it's the least they could do."
The last straw for Sarandon was when the producers asked her to participate in the DVD special edition. "I'll let you in on a secret," she said. "When they did the DVD, and they asked me to do the voice-over [commentary], I said, 'How about giving people some money? You could throw a little money our way.' And they wouldn't, and I didn't, so they took an interview from VH1 that I had done for their anniversary show. I've done a lot of press for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, because I love the movie and I love the people, but they took that and put it on the DVD [instead]."
The Fox network will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Rocky Horror with The Rocky Horror Birthday Show, a two-hour movie to be produced by Fox TV Studios, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Birthday will air in February 2003, 30 years after Richard O'Brien first penned Rocky Horror as a play that ran in London, the trade paper reported.

[29.06.2002] meldet...
