[03.12.2009] Heute startet "SAW VI" in den deutschen Kinos...

[13.11.2009] STYD meldet...
In spite of less than thrilling box office numbers (its current worldwide gross is still less than the last entry's opening weekend with only $26 million), Twisted Pictures forges ahead with Saw VII (Saw 7) in 3-D. And today, Lionsgate has claimed an October 22, 2010 release date.
The next entry is written by returning screenwriters Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton. David Hackl is back in the director's chair. He helmed Saw V.
Costas Mandylor will be back as Hoffman and you can probably presume Tobin Bell shall return for more Jigsaw flashbacks. [...]

[...] How will the saw video game tie in to the movies?
We worked closely with James Wan and Leigh Wannel to outline the story and make sure it fit within the SAW universe. The game takes place between the 1st and 2nd movie in the timeline of the SAW universe. We wrap up a few loose ends, expand on some characters from the first movie anas well as introduce some new characters.
Who will the main character be? Someone familiar? Do we play as ourselves? Or are we going to meet a new character for the game?
You play as Detective Tapp. While he was shot, and stabbed in the first movie. Keep in mind, he is never shown dying in SAW 1 after being shot by Zep, he is however eulogized in the 5th movie. Will there be any co-op or online multiplayer?
Survival Horror works best in a dark room, with surround sound, played alone. [...]

Twisted Pictures producer Mark Burg dropped some big "Saw"-related news today: "Shawnee Smith [as Amanda] is in 'Saw VI.' There are several new characters. Also, this movie is a lot more violent than the previous five. Lastly, we have traps that pit victims against each other like the opening of 'Saw V.' Could be the best script yet!"
Kevin Greutert is at the helm of this entry which is said to begin lensing in Toronto on March 30th. Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton penned the script. Plot details have not been revealed at the time of this writing.
Saw VI is scheduled to hit theaters on October 23.

[...] Fans can rest assured part five, written once again by Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, will move the film forward rather than in a lateral direction - such as what Saw IV did. "I think we made it a little too complex," reflects Burg. "To this day I still hear people who didn't get that it happened at the same time [as part III]. Maybe we didn't do a good enough job in executing it, in all honesty. But Saw V is a little more linear, easier to follow. We'll have two great twists at the end. My hats off to Patrick and Marcus, I don't know how they do it." [...]

Lionsgate has revealed the plot for Saw V, coming to theaters on October 24.

The full cast also includes Scott Patterson, Betsy Russell, Mark Rolston, Carlo Rota, Julie Benz, Greg Bryk, Laura Gordon and Meagan Good. David Hackl is directing the horror-thriller from a script by Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan.

[29.10.2007] CS! berichtet über die US-Einspielergebnisse...
[...] For the past two years, every time October comes to a close, the box office report nearly wrote itself thanks to a certain unstoppable horror franchise, and this year was no exception as the fourth chapter Saw IV (Lionsgate) opened with slightly less than the last chapter, an estimated $32.1 million, after making nearly the same amount as its predecessor on Friday. It averaged an impressive $10k per theatre to become the 6th highest opening movie for the month of October and amongst the top 5 horror sequels. [...]

[28.10.2007] STYD berichtet über die US-Einspielergebnisse...
According to Friday estimates at ShowBIZ Data, the fourth chapter of the hit horror franchise Saw IV has grossed $14.45 million in its opening day, which would be roughly where Saw III opened in the same weekend last year. We'll have to wait until tomorrow to get some idea whether it will make more in its opening weekend than the last chapter, but right now, we can assume that Saw IV will wind up somewhere between $32 and 34 million over the weekend. Seems like the decision to greenlight two more chapters before the fourth movie hits theatres has been warranted and so far, it doesn't look like Saw will be going the way of so many other horror franchises, losing audiences with each successive chapter, due to the regular output of movies and consistency in keeping the same people involved.

[08.06.2007] Variety.com meldet...
Hollywood has its first resident videogame publisher.
Brash Entertainment, the private equity-backed game publisher co-founded by Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull, is coming out of stealth mode today with the news it has raised $400 million and will focus exclusively on games developed from movie, TV and music licenses.
Company has projects in the works based on movies from five studios and has multigame deals with several of them. It's already working on a dozen movie-based titles, including one based on Lionsgate's "Saw" franchise and another, sources confirmed, based on "300." First games will come out this holiday season. While Brash is remaining tight-lipped about its initial release slate, one title will almost certainly be tied to "Saw 3."
Warner Bros. will exclusively distribute all of the new company's games worldwide through its homevid operation, which recently started distributing games in North America for Eidos and Codemasters. Studio is expected to partner with Brash on several games, some of which it may co-finance and co-publish through its Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment vidgame division. [...]
Brash execs say they may consider original properties in the future, but for now, they're building the business entirely on licenses. Though the potential upside isn't as big, since it has to pay royalties to licensors and a distribution fee to WB, the young company will get the benefit of lower marketing costs by tying into studio ad campaigns when it releases day-and-date with movies, as Brash intends to do in most cases.
"It's a slightly different risk profile," granted Davis. "We may not have the breakout success of (hit original games) 'Gears of War' or 'Halo,' but we have a big ambition to produce high-quality, commercially successful games around licenses."
Because so many of its operations are outsourced, Brash has a lean staff of about 50 people, many of whom are game producers with previous experience working on licensed titles.
Given its headquarters in Hollywood and close partnerships with studios, Brash is aiming to work early in the development process with talent attached to movie, TV and music projects. [...]

[16.03.2007] CS! meldet...
While attending ShoWest in Las Vegas, ComingSoon.net had a chance to talk with two of the principals behind Lionsgate's "Saw" franchise, Tobin Bell, who has played Jigsaw in all three movies, and Twisted Pictures co-producer Oren Koules about this year's Saw IV, which starts shooting in Toronto on April 16.
With a month to go, Bell still didn't know very much about how they were going to bring Jigsaw back after his apparent demise in the previous film. "I haven't read the script, don't know the story. I know I'm in it, but that's it," he told us. "It's difficult for me to comment on something I haven't read so I don't know what they're going to do or how they're going to do it. Hollywood's amazing; they come up with all kinds of ways to accomplish things. If I knew I'd tell you, but I don't. In some ways, it's a blessing."
Koules, who was being honored with partner Mark Burg with ShoWest's Award of Excellence in Producing, gave us a few more hints about the fourth film in the franchise. "Tobin knows some clues and what to tell the fans is that there are three or four scenes in 'Saw III' that seem very innocuous and benign but when you see 'Saw IV' and they flash back to those, they have a whole different meaning. We shot scenes for 'Saw III', knowing they'd be in 'IV.' We knew what we wanted to do for 'IV' so we actually shot scenes for 'III' but tried to make them very innocent scenes that didn't really make sense, but when it comes back, it's a huge part about 'Saw IV.'"
While doing press for Saw III, Leigh Whannell seemed ready to have that be his last movie in the series (as did Darren Lynn Bousman who will be back for Saw IV) but Koules told us that Wan and Whannell are still in the picture. "They're totally involved. Two of the biggest ideas in this movie are Leigh's. We hired writers, but they were still very much involved."
A lot of people have been wondering how long they'll be able to keep making these "Saw" movies to which Koules responded, "Until people stop going." [...]

[...] Saw III production designer and second unit director David Hackl is in heavy talks to direct Lionsgate's Saw IV, which is aiming at an October 26, 2007 release. Personally I love the idea of Lionsgate giving a new talent the chance to make his mark, especially since he's worked so close to Darren Lynn Bousman on both Saw sequels. We checked in with Bousman who had this to say, "I fully support the idea of David Hackl directing the next 'Saw' film..." Just to be clear, David is not signed on yet [...]

[30.10.2006] CS! erwähnt "Saw IV"...
[...] With Saw III making $34.3 million in its first three days, a record for Lionsgate, the studio is already planning a fourth installment for the same time next year. The Associated Press reports:
Since the low-budget "Saw" debuted with $18.3 million over the same weekend two years ago, Lionsgate has turned the franchise into an annual ritual with quickly produced sequels each Halloween.
The movies follow the diabolical schemes of psycho killer Jigsaw (Tobin Bell), who stages elaborate, bloody games to test the moral fiber of his victims. Lionsgate plans to have "Saw IV" in theaters over Halloween weekend next year.
Saw II earned $31.7 million its first weekend.

[29.10.2006] CS! berichtet über die US-Einspielergebnisse...
[...] This being the weekend before Halloween, Lionsgate released the third movie in their hit horror franchise Saw III, which opened with $14 million on Friday and wound up making an estimated $34.3 million for the weekend in 3,167 theatres, an average of $10,830 per site. That's an 8% increase above the opening of Saw II during the same weekend last year, before the sequel went on to make $87 million. [...]

[28.10.2006] CS! berichtet über die US-Einspielergebnisse...
Lionsgate's hit horror franchise looks like it will score big for the third Halloween weekend in a row as Saw III grossed an estimated $14.2 million in 3,167 theatres according to ShowBIZ Data. That's compared to the $12.1 opening day of Saw II last October. That first day gross points to an opening weekend somewhere between $33 and $35 million compared to the $31.7 million debut of Saw II. [...]

[28.10.2006] Bei JoBlo.com gibt es eine recht positive Kritik zu "Saw III"..
[...] Cleverly written, packed with substance, strong characters, warped traps and hard to watch kills that made me their bitch, I couldn't have asked for a better way for this franchise to end. Sure I had a couple of issues with Bahar Soomekh's meh display and could've done without some of the "we know this already" exposition, but overall, SAW III was an incredibly ambitious sequel (It addressed the whole franchise while having its own story to tell...nuts!) that wound up being much stronger than it should be. I mean its a Part 3 of a formula based franchise! I didn't think there was anything left to say! But I was wrong...there was... and that in itself is the highest compliment I could give it. [...]

[25.10.2006] Bei DH gibt es ein Interview mit Leigh Whannell..

[24.10.2006] Bei CS! gibt es ein Interview mit dem "Saw III"-Regisseur Darren Lynn Bousman...
CS: [...] You've mentioned that you were talking about doing this third one to finish up the initial story, so do you want to move on and go back to doing some of your own things now?
Bousman:
Yeah, again, I really feel that my chapter in the "Saw Universe" is concluded. I think that I've told the story that I want to tell. I've dealt with the characters I want to deal with, and I think it's time to move on to new things, new ideas. That's kind of where I'm at right now.
CS: That said, I read somewhere--and I'm not sure if it's true--that Tobin Bell has already signed on for more movies.
Bousman:
(laughs) He signed on for ten more movies. He signed his soul.
CS: Did the contract say, "As long as you're alive, you'll keep making 'Saw' movies"?
Bousman:
No, the one thing great about the "Saw" films are they're non-linear. They don't just go from present into future, they jump all over the place. Characters that died in previous films come back in this one for scenes. Look, we had Leigh in this one who died in the previous film. I don't think just because you've died in a "Saw" film means you're out of the Saw family. There's many stories left in the "Saw" thing. We set up stories in "Saw II" that played over to "Saw III." We set up stories in "Saw III" that will play over into the next one. I mean, there's tons of stuff. What else is interesting about the film is the layering of the "Saw" films. It's not just a simple story of blood and guts, there are threads that we don't answer purposefully knowing that we'll come back to them later. We want these films to be interlocked, to be a massive puzzle in the very end you can put together and understand it all. We interlocked a lot of those pieces in "Saw III" with the telling of the back stories. And we set up new ones. There's all these little things that we don't answer, that have answers to them, but we've decided not to answer in this film. [...]

[19.10.2006] B-D meldet...
Tobin Bell, who plays Jigsaw in Lionsgate's Saw franchise, wasn't joking when he said he was signed on for five sequels... we received multiple confirmations yesterday that various writers have been tapped to write different scripts for Saw 4, which would hit theaters next October if Saw 3 performs well the weekend of October 27th. How many writers are on board? We think right now four, but haven't been able to confirm an actual number- but we do have a few names that we unfortunately cannot share at this time. [...]

Can’t keep a dying serial killer down it seems... with Tobin Bell confirmed to reprise his role as the villainous ‘Jigsaw’ from "Saw" and "Saw 2" for the inevitable "Saw 3".
According to SneakPeek, Shawnee Smith, who played Amanda (subject of an interesting little twist at the end of "Saw 2", which we won’t reveal here), in the first two films, is also returning. How good has this series been to Shawnee? Seriously, whoever thought it would get much better for the lovely lass than playing the ditzy subordinate on TV’s "Becker"? I’m sure she’s smiling.

[03.03.2006] Moviehole meldet...
Lionsgate (NYSE and TSX: LGF), the leading independent filmed entertainment studio, and Twisted Pictures today announced plans to develop and produce "Saw III", the next film in the psychologically intense and disturbing horror franchise, for an October 27, 2006 wide release. The film will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II), with story by Leigh Whannell and James Wan (Saw, Saw II) and screenplay by Whannell. The Twisted Pictures team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules will return as producers with Whannell and Wan set to executive produce. The announcement was made by Peter Block, Lionsgate President of Acquisitions and Co-productions, Jason Constantine, Lionsgate Senior VP of Acquisitions, and the Twisted Pictures team of Mark Burg and Oren Koules. [...]
"Yes, there will be more blood," said Block and Constantine. "Saw III will involve the same creative forces responsible for the tremendous success of "Saw I"I. The Twisted team of Mark and Oren, along with Darren, James and Leigh, have all agreed to be prominently involved in Saw III. We are proud to be partnered with some of the most disturbing creative talents on the planet, and the Saw franchise will ensure that gore becomes every bit as much a Halloween staple as ghosts, goblins and candy corn." Block noted that the film will be dedicated to Twisted Pictures principal and Saw producer Gregg Hoffman, who passed away in November 2005.
"We have been discussing story lines that extend the Saw franchise to new limits and beyond with Lionsgate for the past several months," said Burg and Koules. "The most important element of any franchise is remaining true to the roots of its success. We believe that we are developing a script that is certain to please the Saw franchise’s core fans while adding fresh, terrifying and unimaginable new twists to the Saw saga. Jigsaw himself would be proud." [...]

[25.10.2005] CS! sprach mit Leigh Whannell und Darren Lynn Bousman... Und bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik...
[...] Saw II doesn't pull any punches when it comes to the red stuff, it's just as gory and satisfying as the first, but the various traps and tests aren't nearly as creative and fun as some of Jigsaw's earlier contraptions. They're just plain violent and spew alot of blood and pain.
The switch to Darren Lynn Bousman as a director doesn't seem to have had much of a different effect, as Saw II looks much like the first, and uses alot of the same visual tricks.
[...] if you liked the first Saw, it's a definte must-see...but if you didn't dig the style and execution, this sequel won't make you a fan either. [...]

This unique predator always gave his victims a chance at life, if only they could figure out how to escape the demented traps Jigsaw had set for them. This comic, set in the world of Saw and released in anticipation of the upcoming Saw 2 movie, goes back in time to explore the events that spurred the transformation of mild-mannered John into monstrous Jigsaw.

Tonight I come home to find out that everyone online is freaking out and asking, "what the f--ks the deal?" Well it's time to set the record straight, I got the following update straight from the horses mouths and it should bring a smile to many peoples faces- I talked with two of the producers over at Evolution tonight at the Saw DVD (DVD Review) release party and they wanted me to make it clear to everyone that 'Saw 2' WILL make it to theaters by October. The script is almost done and everything is coming along nicely. Expect some big news in the coming weeks.

Whilst James Wan and Leigh Whannell's have yet to announce what involvement they'll have with it, "Saw" DP David Armstrong tells IF that he's signed to shoot the sequel.
"I have a tight working relationship with the film's crew, the producers at Twisted Pictures," he says, "And we start pre-production in early 2005", says Armstrong, about the sequel, due in theatres next Halloween.
Meantime, whispers down-under suggest that Wan and Whannell have extended their stay in Melbourne to write the story for "Saw 2", which is good news for fans of the first.

[20.11.2004] Moviehole sprach mit Leigh Whannell und James Wan, u.a. über die DVD und das Sequel...
[...] Now that the film’s been a huge success at the U.S box office, the studio would surely be pushing for an extras-crammed DVD right? "We’ve done some stuff for it. I would’ve preferred to have done the commentary after the film got released though", says Wan. "It’s hard to talk about the film until you know how it’s going to do. How self-deprecating you should be or how much fun you should have. On the commentary it’s just James and I, but we want to do some more - get some of the actors involved", adds Whannell.
Whannell says, unlike a lot of other filmmakers these days, they never even thought about a DVD when they were making the pic. "It’s interesting the DVD because if you’re shooting the next Star Wars film you’d know you can shoot all this stuff and have a big special edition DVD, but we didn’t expect Saw to even make it to theatres, so its not like we’ve been shooting a documentary from day dot for the features. To do that would be presuming the film would get a DVD release, which would warrant such extras. It’s all happened so quickly that you’re kinda asked ‘what have you got?’
So what have they got? "I’ve asked James to put some of his student films on there. I’ll make a deal with James; I’ll put some In-Entertainment stuff (the E-News style show that Whannell was a roving reporter on) on there if he puts some of his films on there."
Already, Lions Gate have greenlit a sequel to "Saw", but Wan and Whannell are yet to find out how involved they’ll be in it. "[The] Producers are definitely talking about it yeah. We don’t know exactly know what our full involvement is yet. We’d say we’ll be executive producers or overseeing it. It’s only in the early stages so I may have a hand in the writing. The film just opened, so it feels kinda early to be talking about a sequel. From the moment the film opened at 18.3, the sequel gets greenlit the next day. We haven’t had time to think about it. But the producers have had time; they find time to talk about the sequel", Whannell laughs. "I don’t think I’ll be directing [it]", adds Wan, who wants to move onto directing new projects. [...]

[20.09.2004] Bei AICN gibt es eine kurze Kritik...
[...] SAW, what can I say besides the fact this movie was fucking awesome. This movie rocked from the beginning to the end. I admit there are some really cheesy parts with a tad of over-acting from Dr. Gordon. I can't fail to mention the cheesy moments between the two individuals chained up to a wall, and the puppet scenes that had the audience laughing at some points. Despite these minor details the movie is still very well done, and had many people on the edge of their seats. This movie attacks you from all different sides, and never gives you a chance to take a break. [...]

[...] For a first time director, James Wan does an amazing job keeping an eerie tone throughout the entire film. And keeping the audience not knowing that's going to happen next, for the most part. My only major grief with the film is it tells the audience too much. Meaning the characters in the film, while talking to each other, really say exactly what's going on, as if we're all too stupid to figure it out, and it's not necessary at all. [...]
