[27.07.2002] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Moriarty... Vorsicht SPOILER !!!
[...] SIGNS is a very well-made thriller with something on its mind, another exemplary full-length TWILIGHT ZONE episode from a director who is rapidly becoming one of the most distinct mainstream stylists working. It’s worth seeing, and is sure to spur more conversation than any other film this summer, especially concerning the conclusion of the picture. Performances are outstanding all around, and the work of cinematographer Tak Fujimoto along with composer James Newton Howard is as good as it gets in major studio movies today. I have some problems with it, but none that would keep me from telling someone to see the movie. Some people will worship this film, others will dismiss it out of hand, but no matter where you stand on it, it will definitely cause you to react. The big joke is that no matter what, this review won't be positive enough to satisfy his fans, or negative enough to please his detractors. [...]
[23.07.2002] Cindy Pearlman hat eine kleine Anekdote vom Set...
[...] During one scene in the sci-fi movie opening Aug. 2, Joaquin Phoenix AS GIBSON'S BROTHER IS WATCHING NEWS OF AN ALIEN ATTACK IN A LITTLE ROOM UNDER THE STAIRS OF THEIR FARMHOUSE. "ON TAKE 14, MEL COMES CRUNCHING DOWN THE STAIRS AND HE'S SUPPOSED TO KNOCK ON THE DOOR OF THE LITTLE ROOM I'M IN, ENTER AND THEN WE DO OUR SCENE," PHOENIX SAYS. WELL, THERE WAS NO KNOCK. "ALL I SEE IS THE LIGHTS GO OUT IN MY LITTLE ROOM AND THEN I NOTICE THAT I'M LOCKED IN THIS ROOM THAT'S NO BIGGER THAN A CLOSET!"
Phoenix is savvy when it comes to these type of games. "I just sat there patiently for 15 minutes and then when Mel finally opened the door, I leaned out and did my line," he says. "Mel was so disappointed because I gave him absolutely no reaction to his prank."

[17.07.2002] Bei My Reel Review gibt es eine positive Kritik...
[...] my mind was racing the whole time I was watching, wondering what would happen next, and how would it all end. From the opening credits until the closing credits, this movie drags you in and doesn't let go. [...] Like Shyamalan's previous efforts, this will only get better with multiple viewings. And thrillers are best seen in a full theater to heighten the ambiance, so don't hesitate to see it opening weekend.
[13.07.2002] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik von Capone... Vorsicht SPOILER !!!
[...] While not a great work, SIGNS is extremely well made by a man who knows how to keep us practically obsessed with his story. Shyamalan weaves his magic and sucks us right in. His film endings (surprise twists or not) are always an emotional release, and SIGNS is no exception. Go for the science fiction, stay for the human drama and skilled filmmaking.
[20.06.2002] Teletext UK berichtet über Disneys Werbekampagne...
Disney company Touchstone Pictures is planning to create crop circles around the world as part of its marketing campaign for its sci-fi movie Signs, starring Mel Gibson. [...]
A source at Disney's Buena Vista told Teletext: "We will carve out crop circles at unnamed sites."
Most circles appear in July and August - but this year, some will have been created by Signs' film-makers.
How Touchstone proposes to alert the world to its landscaped crop circles is not known, but it's thought images of the crop patterns will be posted on the net and used on posters. [...]

[01.05.2002] Bei Dark Horizons gibt es eine weitere Kritik von einer Test-Vorführung...
[...] Let me tell you, the film is great, but I don't want to say much about it. The movie is so goddamn scary. The trailers show NOTHING. You think you're seeing anything? Basically everything in the trailer is from the first half of the movie. I hope they don't ruin anything in the promos to come. [...]

[27.03.2002] Bei Yahoo! gibt es den "Signs" Teaser-Trailer #2...
Cindy Pearlman sprach für die Chicago Sun-Times mit Mel Gibson über "Signs"...
[...] "Look, I don't see dead people. That's all I'm saying," says Gibson, "I am an Episcopalian minister who sees something in his crops in rural Pennsylvania. It takes place in my field, my farmhouse and in town."
Asked for any more details, he adds, "I will tell you that it says something about the supernatural that might surprise you."
But it won't have a suprise ending, much like Shyamalan's "Sixth Sense" and "Unbreakable". "The ending is not a shocker, but it wraps it up and makes sense. Let's just say it's not like David Lynch time at all where you don't know what the hell is happening. I hate that stuff." [...]

USA Today sprach mit M. Night Shyamalan und Mel Gibson über "Signs"...
[...] "Although I think they're hoaxes, crop circles are intriguing and seemed like a nice starting point for a creepy story," says the director. [...]
Shyamalan says the discovery of the signs leads to an investigation about where they came from and what they mean. "Mel can handle action and comedy, and still be the guy you believe would protect his family at all costs," he says. "It's a thriller and there are twists, which I won't ruin, but we also throw in some comedy. I want you to laugh before you start screaming."
One thing is certain: The shapes didn't come from a computer. "We actually made them all in the fields. We contracted out to some guys a couple of galaxies away," Shyamalan jokes. [...]
