MTV sprach mit Michael Bay über Teil 3...
[...] Bay acknowledged the difficulties that plagued "Revenge of the Fallen," citing the infamous 2007-2008 writer's strike as a major factor in that film's creative disappointments.
"The second one we had a tough go [of it] because we had a writer's strike," he said. "It was a very, very tough thing to make a movie under those circumstances. It affected a lot of Hollywood at that time."
But Bay's outlook has changed for round three, with the director promising a more grounded and centralized "Transformers" movie than he's ever delivered before.
"We just have, I think, a better story," he said. "It's epic and it happens in a city, so it's more accessible because you recognize stuff; it's not in a desert. It's kind of like 'Black Hawk Down' with our small group of heroes in a city."

Via Latino Review kommt der Hinweis auf die folgende Beschreibung des kommenden Teasers...
[...] "Transformers: Dark of the Moon, from the teaser, plays it on conspiracy theories related to the moon landing.
The first part of the movie alternates images of the control room at NASA and of the astronauts on the moon. The landing is what we know well, as are the famous words about the "giant leap for mankind." But we did not know what is the journey of the astronauts on the dark side of the moon, until the control room do not tell them that "... then we are not alone." Then we see some Transformers: the camera comes close to the eye of one of them, which starts to flash. But the camera does not stop, and takes us inside the robot and its mechanisms, making us understand that it's coming back into action.
Difficult to understand the effectiveness of 3D in this movie, no real action. The idea is still pretty well harnessed, we hope that the film is maintained at..." [...]

There has never been a live action show that has pushed the boundaries of 3D like Transformers 3. We shot the entire movie with 3D cameras. I actually loved shooting in 3D. I will give full details of my process and why I liked 3D in the next week right before the Transformers announcement piece comes out on Tron and Narnia.

[...] The Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009’s 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.' In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There are new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime ‘Transformers’ character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth [...]

CS! sprach mit dem Produzenten Lorenzo di Bonaventura, u.a. über den Ausstieg von Megan Fox und die Folgen...
[...] One thing we really wanted to get to the bottom of was the sudden departure of Megan Fox from Transformers 3 a few weeks back. They already had a script when Fox and/or the filmmakers decided to part ways (depending on whom you ask), so we wondered how that happened.
"It's one of those things that built to a pressure point," the producer told us. "I think she knew and we did, I think we all tried really hard to make it work together, it just wasn't working."
"Definitely some script chances for sure," he responded when asked about how that departure affected the production. "I wouldn't say a tremendous number, but yeah, absolutely there were some changes, and I think as we're going along, we're discovering new ones we have to make as a result of them."
Earlier in the day, di Bonaventura told a group of journalists that he thinks Transformers 3 will likely be the last installment at least for him and director Michael Bay, even if that doesn't mean Paramount won't reboot the series with new talent down the line. "It may not be the end of the line of Transformers for Hasbro and Paramount, but I would think so. (For) Michael, I'm sure it is. He's spent a lot of years working on one thing." [...]

USA Today liefert interessante Infos vom "T3"-Set...
[...] Plot details are under wraps, but it delves into the space race between the U.S.S.R. and the USA, suggesting there was a hidden Transformers role in it all that remains one of the planet's most dangerous secrets. "The movie is more of a mystery," Bay says. "It ties in what we know as history growing up as kids with what really happened."
While Optimus Prime, Megatron and even Sam all have died and been resurrected, di Bonaventura says this film will have no do-overs: Die, and that's it.
Bay hints that there may be a lot of that. "As a trilogy, it really ends," he says. "It could be rebooted again, but I think it has a really killer ending."

[...] GeekWeek broke the scoop last Friday, and Deadline seems to be confirming that Victoria's Secret model (and Jason Statham girlfriend) 23-year-old Rosie Huntington-Whiteley is the frontrunner to replace the departing Megan Fox in Michael Bay's Transformers 3.
According to Deadline, Huntington-Whiteley was among the shortlist of three relatively new women to the movie business including Sarah Wright and Brooklyn Decker, the latter being a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model who is appearing in Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston's 2011 romantic comedy Just Go With It.
Later in the day, their story was amended to say that Huntington-Whitely, who has absolutely no acting experience except for what she does on the runway during Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows, has gotten the role as long as things don't fall apart in negotiations. [...]

"Prince of Persia" star Gemma Arterton is the front-runner to replace Megan Fox in "Transformers 3," TheWrap has learned.
An individual close to the casting process says the actress has already had discussions with Bay about the coveted role. Other possible replacements for Fox include models Bar Rafaeli, Miranda Kerr and Brooklyn Decker.
Paramount has confirmed to TheWrap that the studio decided against picking up Fox's option for the sequel, and an individual close to the production explained that as screenwriter Ehren Kruger was developing the screenplay with director Michael Bay, it made sense for star Shia LaBeouf to have a new love interest. Wie Variety.com meldet, ist Megan Fox raus aus Teil 3...
Paramount is parting ways with Megan Fox on "Transformers 3."
A studio spokeswoman disclosed Wednesday that Par has decided against picking up Fox's option to star as Mikaela Banes in the third installment, but declined to elaborate.
Sources close to the production indicated that Par and director Michael Bay want to take the storyline in another direction and plans to cast another actress as the love interest for star Shia LaBeouf, who plays Sam Witwicky. Those sources indicated that Fox's ouster was un-related to a September interview with a British magazine in which Fox compared Bay with Adolf Hitler.
Bay's directing from a script by Ehren Krueger with the storyline kept under wraps. Working title is "Transformers 3."
Pic, produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Ian Bryce, is set to open July 1, 2011. Steven Spielberg is exec producing.
Patrick Dempsey, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich and Ken Jeong have signed on to the project. Thesps Kevin Dunn and Julie White will return in the roles of Ron Witwicky and Judy Witwicky.
"Transformers" is Paramount's most valuable franchise, particularly since the studio is the sole financier. The first "Transformers" grossed $709.7 million worldwide, followed by $836.4 million for last year's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
Initially, Bay had wanted to take a longer break before lensing the threequel, but ultimately decided to meet the studio's summer 2011 release date. [...]

Mike went so big that it became too big, and I think you lost the anchor of the movie... You lost a bit of the relationships. Unless you have those relationships, then the movie doesn't matter. Then it's just a bunch of robots fighting each other."
He added that in the third film, "There's going to be a lot of death, human death. This time, they're targeting humans... It's going to be the craziest action movie ever made, or we failed." [...]
Director Michael Bay says that Skids and Mudflap, which caused some controversy for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, will not be back for next summer's Transformers 3. Bay posted a simple message on his forums stating that "The Twins are not back in T3."

MTV sprach mit dem Produzenten Lorenzo di Bonaventura...
MTV: So there's been talk about shooting "Transformers 3" in 3-D or converting it after the fact. Where are you at in terms of that discussion with Bay and Paramount?
Lorenzo di Bonaventura: We're literally in the middle of that. There's no definitive answer. I think the answer is that as James Cameron, who had plenty and plenty of time to do it, even he converted some of it [edit: first we're hearing that "Avatar" had 3-D converted elements!]. So I think the answer is that, as with most movies, you're going to do some kind of combination if you end up doing it. I'm sure 3-D cameras are going to get lighter and more manageable and all the things that get in the way right now. Over time, that may change. But I think in the near and medium term, most movies will do a combination when and if they do it. [...]
MTV: We've been hearing a lot about the third film's return to the core mythology.
di Bonaventura: I didn't think we veered away from the mythology in the second one. We stay pretty close to mythology in general, sometimes we add to it, as we did on the first and the second one. In second one, we're dealing with the matrix of leadership, a very clear mythological component. The Fallen is one of the original 13 Transformers. We were sticking fairly close to the mythology. We are going to continue to explore the past in the third one and that will continue to inform the present. I think it's pretty much the same thing we did on the first two: you try to get as close as you can to the lore and sometimes you run into pieces where there's not enough information to make a judgment, so you make you own call. That's a necessary component. By and large, the fans have accepted and embraced what we've been doing.
MTV: Around when the second one came out, there was all this hubbub about a feud between Bay and Megan Fox? Do you have any concern about their relationship going into "Transformers 3"?
di Bonaventura: I think the Internet had a lot of fun with that. Michael and Megan get along great. Like in any creative endeavor, there's not always total agreement. Michael doesn't agree on everything with me or Shia [LaBeouf]. He's the captain of the ship. But I think that's much ado about nothing. I even read that we were thinking about not casting her. Come on! It's so silly. As though we would want to mess with such a successful combination.
Reel Chicago berichtet über die Dreharbeiten zu Teil 3...
Starting July 4 and filming for seven weeks, director Michael Bay’s "Transformers 3" will shoot in Chicago, which along with Moscow, will be "the focus of the big action sequences," according to Bay’s official website.
Chicago Film Office director Rich Moskal calls the upcoming big-budget shoot "a blockbuster in every sense of the word; in terms of economic impact, stunts and special effects."
In a sit-down with the producers last winter, Mayor Daley was agreeable to their city location requests "as he saw the multiple value in this big movie shooting here," says Moskal. They will shoot along Michigan Avenue and throughout the Loop.
Starting May 10 "T3" will work out of Chicago Film Studios Chicago (the Ryerson steel plant), occupying 300,000 sq. ft. for offices, stages, construction, wardrobe, transportation, etc., according to studio manager Alex Pisseos.
Scheduled for a July 1, 2011 release, "T3" is expected to provide the greatest amount of local union employment since "Public Enemies" filmed here in 2008.
While the plot is being tightly held under wraps, Michael Bay did say in a Blu-ray extra that "T3" can’t get any bigger, so it will have to go "sideways," in terms of overall scope and action.
He also revealed that the new Autobot being introduced will be a Ferrari 458 Italia.
"T3" will shoot in six other world cities in the continuing saga of the admirable Autobots and dastardly Decepticons, who disguise themselves by transforming into everyday machinery.
Cast members are Shia Labeouf as Sam Witwicky, Megan Fox as his girlfriend, Mikaela, John Malkovich as Sam’s boss, Kevin Dunn, Julie White, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Frances McDormand, and Ken Jeong.
Bay is also the executive director, with Steven Spielberg; producers are Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Ian Bryce. Ehren Kruger is the writer.
The "Transformers" franchise, based on the popular Hasbro Transformers toy lines, centered on two factions of warring alien robots.
The first two DreamWorks/Paramount movies, "Transformers," 2007, was budgeted at an estimated $150 million and grossed $701.5 million. "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," 2009 grossed $835 million on an estimated $200 million budget.
No budget has been released for "T3." [...]
CS! sprach mit dem Produzenten Lorenzo di Bonaventura über Teil 3...
Q: [...} Are any of these actors you're working with now, are they going to be in any of your future films?
Di Bonaventura: Actually [John] Malkovich is in "Transformers 3."
Q: And what is his role in that?
Di Bonaventura: You know we don't talk a lot about that script, but he's going to have a lot of interaction with Shia in that movie. And he's got a really fun character. And he's going to bring a really interesting spin to that franchise so it's going to be great.
The elements are falling into place for "Transformers 3," with Frances McDormand and John Malkovich signing on to the project, which begins pre-shoots next month.
Also onboard for the pic in Paramount's tentpole franchise is "The Hangover's" Ken Jeong. Director Michael Bay announced the latest developments on the pic on his blog.
"Transformers 3" is set for release July 1, 2011. It is not known whether the third installment will be shot in 3D. The first two were shot in 2D.
"Transformers" is Paramount's most valuable franchise, particularly since the studio is the sole financier. The first "Transformers" grossed $709.7 million worldwide, followed by $836.4 million for last year's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
Initially, Bay had wanted to take a longer break before lensing the three-quel, but ultimately decided to meet the studio's summer 2011 release date.
Bay did disclose that the newest Autobot to join the franchise is the Ferrari 458 Italia. The helmer, a Ferrari collector, has been working with the automaker in recent weeks on relief efforts for Haiti.
Ehren Kruger penned the script for "Transformers 3." Storyline is being kept under tight wraps. Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox return for the lead roles.
Par took sole custody of "Transformers" as part of its divorce from DreamWorks. Steven Spielberg remains exec producer.
While it was expected, it was not confirmed yet whether Josh Duhamel would return as Major Lennox in Transformers 3.
Duhamel told us today at the Las Vegas ShoWest convention that he met with director Michael Bay yesterday, that the script is done and they're preparing to start filming in the summer. So yes, he will indeed be back alongside Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and Tyrese Gibson. [...]

Today is Day One. This morning started with an ILM meeting for five hours in San Francisco. Currently I'm flying with writer Ehren Kruger to Rhode Island to talk to Hasbro about new characters.

CS! berichtet über die Einspiel-Rekorde des Sequels...
After only 14 days in release, the worldwide hit Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen became the second-fastest film in movie history to earn $300 million in U.S. ticket sales, eclipsing the previous record-holder Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, by two days. From director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg, the Paramount Pictures release trails only The Dark Knight in this record-setting achievement.
"Moviegoers everywhere propelled the film to this great success, paving the way for a phenomenal run," said Paramount Pictures Vice Chairman Rob Moore.
2007's Transformers earned $319.2 million in its theatrical run, and more than $700 million worldwide. The sequel has already taken in over $600 million worldwide to date, conquering several records including:
* Biggest Wednesday-Sunday opening of all time.
* Biggest Wednesday opening of all time.
* Paramount's biggest international opening of all time.
* 3rd biggest worldwide opening weekend of all time.
* 4th biggest international opening of all time.

[...] Going into the weekend, there was no doubt Michael Bay's anticipated sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, starring Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox, would be huge, though few thought it could open as big as last summer's biggest blockbuster, Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight, at least not based on the awful reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. After grossing just over $60 million on Wednesday (a record for the weekday opening) and another $29 million on Thursday, the sequel brought in an estimated $112 million over the weekend for a total of $201.2 million in its first five days. Besides setting a record for a June opening, surpassing 2004's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Bay's latest grossed the second-largest amount over a five-day period after The Dark Knight's $203.8 million. The IMAX Corporation reports that the movie had the best five-day gross, grossing $14.4 million in its first five days on 169 IMAX screens, nearly double what the 5th "Harry Potter" movie did two years ago. "Revenge of the Fallen" became the third-largest worldwide opening weekend grosser, earning $274 million and beating out last summer's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The film has become Paramount's biggest international opener of all time, again besting "Indy 4" for the top honor, and ranking as the industry's fourth-biggest opening of all time abroad. The sequel has taken in $387 million worldwide to date. [...]

The current record-holder for the best five-day domestic gross is The Dark Knight, which earned $203.8 million its first five days last year. That's followed by Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith with $172.8 million and Spider-Man 3 with $169.4 million.

Michael Bay schreibt in seinem Forum...
[...] Steven Spielberg sat next to me in a big 100 person theater at Sony today. There were 98 empty seats. The lights came up after we just watched my cut of Revenge of the Fallen. He turned to me and said "It's awesome". He felt this movie was better than the first - and probably my best, who knows - at this point in a movie you start to lose your objectivity. I just hope the fans like it. I'm going to start putting it in front of audiences in a few weeks - no you are not invited, yet.
We have 60 days left. Let me tell you it will be a race to finish. It's 12 at night and we are still working here in the edit room. Everyone at ILM and DD are killing themselves right now, they are doing a stellar job on the effects. We also just finished our trailer which is coming out with Wolverine. [...]
Michael Bay kommentiert den T3-Starttermin in seinem Forum...
[...] I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 - they asked me on the phone - I said yes to July 4 - but for 2012 - whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots. [...]
Paramount and DreamWorks are forging ahead with "Transformers 3," dating the movie for release on July 1, 2011.
It's the first official word of the project. Paramount insiders said they wanted to claim the date of July 1, 2011 before another studio did, and that this isn't an official announcement that "Transformers 3" is a go. No writer has been hired.
DreamWorks and Par weren't immediately available to confirm whether Michael Bay and stars Shia LaBeouf and Megan Fox are set to return for the third installment in the franchise, which has fast claimed the July 4th holiday as its own.
"Transformers" opened July 3, 2007; "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" bows on June 24, 2009.
So far, "Transformers 3" has no direct competition in its July 1, 2011 date. [...]

TFW 2005 meldet... SPOILER !!!
The TFW TF2 Insider has confirmed that the character of Alice, as played by Isabel Lucas, in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, is a Pretender. For those not familiar with Transformers sublines from the 1980s, Pretenders are Transformers that are hidden inside a shell that acts as their disguise. In the case of Alice, the shell will be an attractive human woman while the inner robot is best described as a hybrid of the Frenzy robot design from the first movie. The Pretender Transformer will have an arm that transforms into an energy weapon, a long tongue, and a scanning tenticle.

IESB: [...] On Transformers it's a bit different on the writing process because you've got Ehren [Kruger] working as well. How did that work out for you guys?
Bob: We couldn't have done it without Ehren. It would have literally been impossible because we were producing Eagle Eye...
Alex: And with the strike, it really ran out the clock so when the strike ended, we had four months to get a shooting draft together. And so the three of us locked ourselves into a hotel, or I should say, Michael Bay locked us in a hotel...
Bob: Posted a guard outside the door, they slid food under, we got to talk to our wives every couple of days...(laughter)
Alex: We would work in one room, Ehren in another room and then we'd get together twice a day and trade pages and go over each other's stuff. It was actually great, it was a lot of fun and having him come in with a fresh perspective and not having had any of the baggage we had from the first movie was key to making the second one it's own movie, distinct from the first one.
Bob: And Ehren's the greatest too because he's equal parts fan boy and grown-up and I think he is able to get the best of both perspectives and so it was just a very fun team and it felt, we worked together on a movie he had written for us as producers, but this was the first time to really sit down and write together and I think it was the easiest transition I can imagine. [...]
IESB: Real quickly on Transformers, it looks like it's definite that the Constructicons and Devastator are in, Soundwave is in, can you give us any hints, any clues of what else we are going to see?
Bob: You are going to find out a lot about the mythology. It's officially going to tell you what the Transformers history is and I think a lot of it is going to be taken, somewhat, from gospel. I think we all settled on the fact that the source material and the myth that established in much of the Transformers back story was perfect for this movie. And that should be satisfying to genuine fans.
IESB: One of the things that we got teased about, and that I loved, was looking at Cybertron. Are we going to actually see it this time? Are we getting the same - explain it in the beginning of the movie and then back to Earth?
Alex: I think in the spirit of what we gave you in the first movie, there will be similar things in this movie.
Bob: Meaning, "no comment." (laughter) [...]

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" co-screenwriter Roberto Orci has talked with TFW2005 about how the film's production is going and what to expect in the sequel.
One promising remark - "The first movie is all about the mystery and reveal of the Transformers as a concept and a species, which means we had to hide them a lot in the first hour. In the second movie, now that everyone believes in the universe, we can jump right into the world of the Transformers. The first movie was meant to be somewhat of a mystery. For the sequel, we need an entirely different structure and paradigm for the movie, and we can't rely on it being the first."
There's also a more comedic bent - "We were emulating the style of movie from the old Amblin days, like Back to the Future and Gremlins. Also, comedy makes things more accessible to a larger audience." A theme of the film is the responsibilities you face when being away from home. [...]

[...] we're doing Transformers 2 right now and it's just crazier. It's more angry. It's bigger explosions, more robots and Michael Bay is just in rare form right now.
MoviesOnline: What do you mean more angry?
TYRESE: It's just more angry. More angry meaning the conflict between the robots and the humans. The stakes have been brought up to a whole nother level like the conflicts between the humans and the Decepticons. And then the conflict between the Autobots and Decepticons. Just more angry.
MoviesOnline: Have they shown you Devestator and the Constructicons?
TYRESE: I can't speak on that. You're trying to get me to leak some information. That was nice though. He set that up nicely. Woo, he was so confident with his whole... but I ain't, no, no, no.
MoviesOnline: We know there's bigger robots.
TYRESE: It's just more robots. I'm not saying bigger. [...]
MoviesOnline: Do you get your own robot?
TYRESE: I can't say, man. I can just say this, that Michael Bay is definitely giving Epps a lot of love in this one. So it's going to be special. I've been interacting with robots. Most of the conversations between robots was with Shia's character and the robots and we kind of stayed away from talking to them. So I've had a few conversations with some robots. It's real interesting.
MoviesOnline: Are you back to shooting?
TYRESE: Oh, we're rolling. I just did a night shoot. That's why I was kind of tired yesterday because we shot until about 6:30 in the morning. So we're doing the night thing right now and then we're going back to Alamagorda, White Sands to do some more of that rock star stuff out there. It's like the stakes are just 1000 percent higher, just crazy.
MoviesOnline: How much longer?
TYRESE: We've got about two and a half more months of shooting. We've got to go overseas. It's full throttle.
TYRESE: I'm hearing Jordan. A few other locations.
MoviesOnline: Where is Epps two years later?
TYRESE: I am at the top of my class. I am the highest ranking officer of my class, which I can't say, but I'm sure you all can pull that up on the internet. As far as my world, I am the highest ranking. It's crazy, while we're on these military bases, people are walking up to me that are in the military like, "Oh, I mean, man, sir. Man, you're like the top." So it's exciting.
MoviesOnline: Has Michael changed?
TYRESE: Oh man, he's definitely changed. He's definitely excited. At the end of the day, this is the sequel of the most successful film he's ever directed. If that don't create anticipation then I don't know what will. It's like at the end of the day, to have a film that is also Oscar nominated for the special effects and all these other things. [...]
Both Entertainment Tonight and Film School Rejects are reporting that Shia LaBeouf is returning to the set of Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on Thursday.
Shia and his passenger/co-star Isabel Lucas were hit in the early morning hours of July 27 by another driver who had run a red light in Los Angeles. LaBeouf underwent surgery on his hand to repair damage caused by the accident. Reports in late July said that it would take a month before LaBeouf would be back on set, but that appears not to be the case. [...]

The 1st unit involved in production of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen is on a 4 week hiatus due to Shia LaBeouf's hand injury. The second unit, (the team that shoots footage which is of lesser importance for the final motion picture, as opposed to the first unit, which shoots all scenes involving actors, or at least the stars of the film) is still filming. Second unit footage typically includes shots like scenery, close-ups of objects and other inserts or cutaways. There is currently no indication that this delay will affect the release of the film.
MTV.com sprach mit Tyrese Gibson...
[...] A Paramount spokesperson had no comment when MTV News asked how long filming could be delayed due to LaBeouf's accident.
LaBeouf was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and released. A statement from his spokesperson indicated he had plans to return to "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" within the month.
As for what we can expect out of the highly anticipated sequel, Gibson said he's most looking forward to, well, more of himself.
"Go on the Internet - a lot of the fans out there were like, we want to see more of my presence in the film, and the studio and Michael Bay heard that, so Michael's been putting the camera on me a lot more Epps in that film," he revealed. [...]
"There's way more robots, way more craziness. Once again, you are going to see some things that are Oscar-worthy as far as special effects," he said, smiling. [...]
[...] IDW Publishing [..] has announced a five-part prequel miniseries entitled "Transformers: Destiny" that’s set to bridge the gap between the 2007 blockbuster and its Summer ‘09 sequel. And if it’s any indication, "Transformers 2" is going to be one interesting ride.
"[We're going to] explore the background of The Fallen - the main villain of the movie - as well as expand on the ‘Reign of Starscream’ story that we’re doing and tie everything in to what this next movie is going to be," explained writer Chris Mowry, who partners on the book with artist Alex Milne. "The next movie starts out with just tons of action and there’s obviously going to be a lot of questions, so we’re hoping to answer some of those beforehand." [...]
EW.com sprach mit Michael Bay...
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: [...] What can you tell us about Transformers 2? Or, better yet, what will you tell us?
MICHAEL BAY: When we were writing the script, I said to the writers, "I hate sequels that try to make it to the third movie. Pretend like we’re never having a third movie, so let’s go for broke on the second one. I hate those cliffhangers! Let’s just make this movie stand on its own." I really feel this movie is not a forced sequel. I think the script is really good, and I think it’s got a lot of new stuff in it. There are a lot of rumors out there, but we’ve released a lot of fake stuff. We’ve done a really good job of keeping things secret.
Can you give us a hint of something that is true then?
There are some great, new robots that are really inventive. [...]

Wie CS! meldet, hat das Sequel einen Titel: "Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen" !!! Und MTV.com zitiert Michael Bay...
[...] "You know how those sequels they do the second one so you go see the third one? ["Transformers 2"] is it," he said, indicating that "2" would be its own story free from the duel shackles of set-up or resolution. "First one was just introducing, setting up stuff, so we can go a lot farther. Let’s just say [this] is not a lame sequel."
If "Transformers" was all about introduction, then "Transformers 2" will be all about escalation, with reports that upwards of 20 robots will do battle in the blockbuster sequel. But for Bay, it’s not the number of robots present, but how they’ll be more fully and individually realized that has him excited, he said.
"The robots are going to surprise a lot of people because we go with a lot of different levels," he teased.
Of course, that also applies to returning cast members, as well, who will now get a chance to go further with their characters than they did in the original. Shia LaBeouf will be in college (and taught by Rainn Wilson). But forget transforming robots or finals angst, Megan Fox smiled, the real transformation is yet to come.
"In this one I transform from a girl into a woman," she laughed. [...]
Bei SHH! gibt es einen Setbericht, inkl. Video... Derweil hat MTV.com einen neuen Darsteller entlarvt...
He’s a fast-rising British actor most recently seen in action-heavy flicks like "Rambo" and "Resident Evil: Extinction." Now, 34-year-old Matthew Marsden may have finally landed the high-profile film that could transform him into a star.
MTV News has learned that Matthew Marsden is the newest addition to the cast of "Transformers 2." He joins a high-powered cast returning for the sequel to last year’s blockbuster, including Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese. Marsden hooks up with Michael Bay’s super-franchise for the sequel much like Rainn Wilson, whose casting was revealed last week by MTV.
Marsden has been cast in the role of "Graham," a character who is part of the British Special Forces. Although the film’s plot is being kept under the tightest veils of secrecy, it is known that the flick will depict an even more worldly battle than the first "Transformers" film, and will shoot all over the globe. In the sequel, Graham teams with Duhamel and Tyrese’s military characters, joining their efforts as they do battle with the evil Decepticons.
The casting of Graham, and the presence of the British Special Forces, would seem to indicate that Bay might do some filming in the U.K. Cameras are scheduled to begin rolling on the fast-forming flick in a matter of weeks.
An avid biker and swimmer, the burly Marsden seems well-prepared to do battle alongside Duhamel’s Captain Lennox and Tyrese’s Sergeant Epps. Since moving to Hollywood, Marsden has also appeared in the action-heavy films "Black Hawk Down" and "DOA: Dead or Alive." He made his film debut in the underrated 1993 Harvey Keitel flick "The Young Americans."
MTV News has also learned that director Michael Bay was so impressed while meeting with Marsden that he has considerably beefed up the role of Graham from the original script, to accommodate the actor. Once again executive produced by Steven Spielberg, "Transformers 2" will be released on June 26, 2009.

[...] how many robot characters would you like to include in this movie notwithstanding budget concerns?
I'd love and think we could almost barely manage ten on each side, with some front and center and others as more supporting.
At the beginning of the year, director Michael Bay said that Jazz wouldn't be back for Transformers 2, but it looks like things have changed. TFW2005.com writes:

CS! berichtet über die "Transformers 2"-Dreharbeiten in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania... Und THR.com weiss mehr über die Sequel-Besetzung...
If you've ever wondered just how Dwight Schrute would handle himself in a brawl with a gigantic robot, well ... it looks like you're going to get an answer.
Rainn Wilson, who plays the intense (and intensely funny) Schrute on NBC's "The Office," has revealed to MTV that he has been cast in DreamWorks' "Transformers 2." The sequel to last year's megahit about a race of automotive automatons smashing it out on Earth reteams director Michael Bay with returning stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro.
The story was conceived by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who wrote last year's "Transformers," as well as Ehren Kruger, who wrote the screenplay. Filming began in Los Angeles in recent weeks and is moving to Pennsylvania and then overseas.
Although a small part, Wilson's casting -- his first in a big-budget studio franchise -- could be a shrewd play for a comedy crowd that might not otherwise patronize a bombastic Bay extravaganza. He will play a college professor to LaBeouf's new undergrad. Discussions with Jonah Hill to take another small role did not pan out. [...]
MCall.com berichtet über den geplanten Dreh in einem Stahlwerk in Philadelphia... Und IGN sprach mit dem Drehbuchautor Roberto Orci...
Q: What's the status of Transformers 2?
ORCI: That starts shooting in three weeks.
Q: What do you want to do that builds from the first one?
ORCI: We want to follow some of our lead characters which we thought were so successful. Shia's character; where is he two years later? His girlfriend, where is she two years later? But for fans, I guess I'll address this more for the fans, because I think if you didn't know Transformers at all and you came in and you liked the first movie, you'll like the second one. However, some of the die hard fans, which we were a member of that group, felt, well, maybe it's a little light. Maybe it wasn't science fictiony enough. And I think the second one will deliver on a true Transformers story. You know, the first one, we had a limited budget for what it was. Every second of Transformer time is a million dollars or whatever the heck it is, so this time, because we were able to prove through the whole thing that it's a viable live-action movie, we have a little more freedom this time to actually learn about the Transformers, see them, hear them. It's a better balance between the humans and the Transformers.
Q: Is there one particular Transformer, good or bad, that you absolutely had to get into the sequel?
Q: You're not gonna tell us.
ORCI: I'll tell you. We had to get Soundwave in there.
Q: Nice. Where Soundwave goes, will Ravage follow?
ORCI: Perhaps! Who's Ravage? ... I'm kidding! You know, we had Ravage in an early draft of the first movie and Soundwave, and we couldn't do it right and I think this time hopefully we'll have the ability to do it. [...]
CS! sprach mit Tyrese Gibson, u.a. über das Sequel...
CS/SHH!: [...] You'll also be back for "Transformers 2" - How will your character evolve?
Gibson: Well, I can't spill any of the beans though that was a smooth transition. But I just talked to Shia [LaBeouf] and left Jon Voight [a message] about fifteen minutes ago. I'm excited. Michael Bay is really going to try and up the ante on round two and take it to a whole other level. I can't go into any detail, but it's going to be some real one-of-a-kind things going on in this movie that no one has ever visually seen in their life. Michael Bay is really fired up and trying to outdo what he did on the first round and I'm just honored to be a part of it. [...]
The "2008 ShoWest Edition" of the Dolby newsletter (in PDF format) has a list of upcoming 3-D releases and includes Transformers 2 (as well as Steven Spielberg's Tintin). We're hearing that, although it's on the list, the sequel is not a lock yet for a 3-D release. A final decision will be made based on the availability of Digital 3-D and IMAX 3-D screens. The big problem facing the Transformers sequel is that Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs comes out just five days later and would rule out a majority of the Digital 3-D screens.
In related news, director Michael Bay has confirmed on his message board that he has cast Aussie actress Isabel Lucas for the role of "Alice" in the sequel.
Recently, the news broke that Jonah Hill won’t be rolling out in "Transformers 2" after all. It’s sad, sad news for movie fans hoping the sequel would get a legitimate comedic-sidekick injection rather than, say, filling the role with Dax Shepard.
According to series producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the movie has had to move on without the "Superbad" star - but we can still expect some big announcements over the next several weeks. [...]
Director Michael Bay and returning stars Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox and Jon Voight are reportedly on board to return, and Bonaventura confirmed plans to start shooting the movie in Philadelphia and Bethlehem, Pennsylvania next month.
"Michael’s got some really great stuff planned," he added.
The super-producer, who we caught up with this week on the Downey, CA set of his equally massive blockbuster franchise "G.I. Joe," also shot down rumors that Bay would finally create a long-rumored character. "A transforming aircraft carrier?" Bonaventura repeated, denying its existence. "We saw a Japanese film that had something like that, so maybe that’s where that comes from." [...]

"I know of a few things I have to work on for the next one," said LaBeouf. "I’ve seen pre-vizes of the action scenes and I just saw Michael yesterday. It’s going to be bad-ass. We’re not making another one unless it is, and Mike is definitely not resting on his laurels - he’s doing insane shit again. And the pre-vizes that I’ve seen... it’s just massive. If the first one was any indicator of how massive massive can be, this is going to blow that out of the water. It’s insane. Mike’s mind was just kind of made for this - it’s amazing. There’s going to be a lot more characterisation with the robots, which I’m excited about. I was a fan of Transformers before the movie came out. And there’s going to be a lot of action... That goes unsaid, I guess".
Transformers 2 director Michael Bay told Rotten Tomatoes at the Visual Effects Society awards that he's already written the sequel and will pass on his script to the screenwriters, who are coming off of the strike:
"I've been writing Transformers 2," said Bay. "We've got our characters all designed. I always write all my scripts, my movies anyway so at least I've got something to give the writers. It's like a template. We have a really good outline so I worked on that." It might be a tad unorthodox, but Bay has high pressure demands. "We had to because I want to make my date. I'm not going to let the strike take me down."
Bay also spoke to IESB, who he assured that we won't be seeing Dinobots in the follow-up. ILM's Scott Farrar also told the site that there will be a lot more robots this time and that the animatics look amazing so far.

CS: Any word or update on "Transformers 2"?
LaBeouf: We're in the middle of a strike so you can't write a script and you can't make a movie without a script so that's where we're at. [...]
IESB sprach mit dem Produzenten Lorenzo di Bonaventura, u.a. über "Transformers 2"...
[...] We're nowhere because of the strike, we won't know until we come back. We have a very fine outline and we know exactly where we want go with the movie but until this writers strike comes back, we'll find out exactly where we are. Michael is completely on top of every detail. He's designed a lot of great stuff already. He's got a lot of great sequences imagined but you know, he needs some writers to work with before he's ready to go, so I would say June 2nd is an unofficial start, it's the target date we'd like to go for but, you know, we've got to get some writers to help us. In a Happy New Year's message to fans on his official website, Transformers director Michael Bay wrote:
For the millions of viewers that logged on this year I want to thank you for the support. Transformers 2 will be coming soon. The new robots are really really unique and there are a lot of them this time.
Paramount/DreamWorks is planning a June 26, 2009 release for Transformers 2. Transformers was the third-biggest film of 2007 domestically with $319.2 million and fifth-biggest worldwide in 2007 with $706.5 million.
