FILME A-Z

[...] Tom Arnold meanwhile has been making claims that there's a True Lies 2 script to the press, but Schwarzenegger addressed the possible sequel in the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly.
"The idea of a 'True Lies' sequel has been around since the early 2000s, but then 9/11 happened and we didn't do it because it had to do with a terrorist attack. A lot of terrorist-type scripts were cancelled back then, but now they are emerging again because there hasn't been a terrorist attack in the last 10 years. [...]

[21.10.2010] CS! sprach mit James Cameron...
[...] Though he's listed as a producer, one project that doesn't have Cameron's full attention is the upcoming "True Lies" series, planned for development at ABC.
"I'm not really doing that," Cameron said, "That was initiated by others. Friends of mine who wanted to do that. I said, 'Yes, go with God. Do 'True Lies.' But do I have to show up to do anything?' They said, 'Absolutely not.'"
Though Cameron has been involved with a number of scripts for potential True Lies sequels over the years, he added that he's not aware whether any of the ideas from those drafts will be incorporated into the show.

[18.09.2010] The LiveFeed weiss mehr über die "True Lies" TV-Serie...
James Cameron's TV adaptation of his 1994 hit "True Lies" has landed at ABC.
The network has made a script deal with penalty for the project. Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV are producing with Rene Echevarria as writer/showrunner and co-exec producer.
Having Cameron on a network's lineup would be a boon for any broadcaster, though the plot of "True Lies" (about a super-spy whose family discovers his real job), is territory that been touched upon in recent years in projects such as "My Own Worst Enemy" and the upcoming "Undercovers."
If greenlighted, the project will mark the "Avatar" director's first TV series after his Fox drama "Dark Angel," which aired back in 2000.

After smashing box office records with Titanic, James Cameron segued to television with a primetime series. Now, after topping Titanic’s record haul with Avatar, Cameron is returning to TV with what is one of the hottest projects this development season: a TV series take on his 1994 action comedy True Lies that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis. I hear the project, from Cameron’s Lightstorm Entertainment and 20th Century Fox TV, is about to be taken out to the networks. Rene Echevarria is the writer/showrunner, exec producing with Cameron and Lightstorm’s Rae Sanchini and Jon Landau. The 1994 movie centered on Harry Tasker (Schwarzenegger), a computer salesman/family man who lives a double life as a government spy. During a top-secret mission, Harry discovers that his mousy wife Helen (Curtis), is seeking adventure. Harry sets out to give her the excitement she craves while battling Middle Eastern terrorists who threaten nuclear war with the U.S.
After Titanic, which nabbed 11 Oscars, Cameron co-created and exec produced his first and only TV series to date, Fox’s sci-fi drama Dark Angel starring Jessica Alba. Echevarria worked on the show for its entire 2-season run, first as a co-executive producer and then as an exec producer. Lightstorm president Sanchini also served as a producer on the series. Echevarria, who co-created/executive produced the USA Network series The 4400, most recently served as an exec producer/co-showrunner on ABC's crime dramedy Castle and also exec produces the upcoming MTV series Teen Wolf.
On the feature side, Cameron is considering several projects, including Avatar sequel(s), Battle Angel and The Dive. But 16 years after its release, True Lies continues to be a fan favorite, with speculation about a potential sequel never dying. Cameron wrote and directed the movie, which was based on the 1991 French film La totale! penned by Claude Zidi, Didier Kaminka and Simon Michael. The trio shared screenplay credit with Cameron on the Hollywood adaptation. Like Titanic and Avatar, True Lies was at the time the most expensive movie ever made, rumored to be in the $100M-$120M range. True Lies also marked the first Lightstorm project to be distributed under Cameron's multi-million dollar production deal with 20th TV's sibling movie studio Fox.

My Lightstorm Entertainment spy says that James Cameron is not working on a sequel to TRUE LIES at the moment but if he decides not to continue the on-going adventures of Harry Tasker, Arnold can go solo like he did with TERMINATOR 3 and do the big budget sequel with another director. LIGHTSTORM ENTERTAINMENT would either still produce part 2 or give Schwarzenegger production reigns with his company OAK PRODUCTIONS (which produced Last Action Hero and Red Heat). [...]

[11.10.2005] JoBlo.com meldet...
Earlier this year, Tom Arnold spoke to Star Magazine about a rumored TRUE LIES sequel and mentioned the following:
We all caught up - Jim [Cameron], Jamie [Lee Curtis], Eliza [Dushku], Bill [Paxton] and myself - to talk about True Lies 2 about a month ago in Cali. We're doing it. Definitely doing it. I'm revved.
Seems unlikely but if Arnold wants to talk about it, that's cool. However, things just got a little more interesting since Chris alerted us to what Dushku said about this proposed sequel in a recent issue of Buffy Magazine. What's interesting is the fact that she said the exact same thing as Arnold. She mentioned:
We all caught up Me, Jamie Lee, Arnold, and Jim, to talk about True Lies 2, about a month ago in California. We're Doing it. Definitely doing it. I'm revved.
What are the chances of both of them saying the exact same thing? When did this "catching-up" meeting actually take place? Did they actually discuss the sequel? Is it really happening? What's the real truth here? More importantly, who uses "revved" anymore? All interesting questions which may never be answered and if they aren't, I'm pretty sure most people would be ok with that.

You've got to give Tom Arnold props for consistency on his "True Lies 2" stories, though this time it sounds more reliable. Talking with Star Mag during "Happy Endings" promotions, the actor said "We all caught up - Jim [Cameron], Jamie [Lee Curtis], Eliza [Dushku], Bill [Paxton] and myself - to talk about True Lies 2 about a month ago in Cali. We're doing it. Definitely doing it. I'm revved. Unlike Terminator, which I think they're doing without Arnold, Jim's prepared to wait for the big guy. So am I. I've been waiting for ten years now - I'm sure I can hang on a few more months". [...]

[26.08.2004] DH meldet...
[...] Talking on WLW 700AM radio, Tom Arnold spoke about a potential sequel to the 1994 James Cameron action comedy - "It's a matter of finding the right time, right place, and right story - something not so violent. Jim Cameron's going to be invovled but he's too busy preparing another movie for arnold - something real big - so he might only have a supervisory (?) role. Definitely happening soon".

[30.07.2003] Bei CS! gibt es ein Interview mit Jamie Lee Curtis...
[...] "'True Lies 2' will never get made. Never happen," says Curtis. "You know why? I found out why. Because terrorists aren't funny anymore. They never were, but, it was distant enough from our psyche that we could make it funny. It'll never be funny again. I just think that that is over, that kind of humor is over."
It sounds like they were all ready to go for another one, however. "I found this out only recently, because I never understood why, thinking, this is weird, why aren't we doing it? Because we had the big meeting, I thought we were gonna make it, it was all heading down that road. We literally had the big dinner, we all got together and it was a big thumbs up and lets do this and blah, blah, blah. And then, September 11th happened, and then, I mean obviously. I finally asked, I said, 'What really happened'. Jim and Ray and Arnold all felt that. If someone had ever asked me, I would've agreed with them. You can't do that again. You just can't make that threat funny."
Considering the project was close to kicking-off, what else could the sequel be about other than terrorists? "Unless they come up with some sort of businessman, make it about Republican businessmen who are evil, and then, you know, then we can make it. Maybe they'll make it about...I know, an American presidency, with kind of, I know, and we'll have the guy not be so bright, oh, that's great!"
Seriously now Jamie! "No, instead I think if they do that, then they'll probably call and say they have another idea, but based on the original concede, it'll be that somehow a bad guy group is doing something bad to humanity and the world."

[28.06.2003] Bei IGN FilmForce gibt es ein Interview mit Schwarzenegger...
[...] Arnold also gave an update on the status of True Lies 2, which has been put on hold for several years now. "The script is written, but as you know, after 9/11 happened, Cameron was worried because there's an airplane scene - a terrific airplane scene - that didn't have anything to do with the terrorism that we had in 9/11, but it was a great fight scene inside the plane while the plane goes down and this kind of thing. It was a very important moment in the movie, and he felt like he can't do that and therefore has to rewrite it ... These things take a long time." [...]

[25.06.2003] DH meldet...
Arnold Schwarzenegger told Maxim that "TL2 will come along eventually: James Cameron just has to rewrite the script".

[...] Sept. 11 also prompted Cameron to scrap a sequel to True Lies, his comic spy thriller with Arnold Schwarzenegger, star of the Terminator movies.
"We were struggling with it, trying to figure out a story," Cameron said. "Then when Sept. 11 happened, I just thought an action comedy about an anti-terrorism unit trying to stop Arab terrorists from smuggling nuclear weapons onto U.S. soil was just not that funny anymore."

[25.02.2003] Latino Review sprach mit Tom Arnold, u.a. über das Sequel...
Lets get back to the saying NO thing, would you say NO to TRUE LIES 2?
Tom: Would I say no to it? NO, I signed up; Arnold [Schwarzenegger] signed up, got a meeting with Jim Cameron next week. It's been a long process, Jim Cameron has been very busy, he's been at the bottom of the ocean [outburst of laughter], and he does what he wants to do when he wants to do it. He's a great guy.
Can you elaborate a bit more on the plot for the sequel?
Tom: No, he will kill me. He'll be all over it.

[18.11.2002] CS! meldet...
There has been lots of talk about James Cameron reuniting with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Arnold on a True Lies sequel. Cameron, however, says he won't be involved. "No, I won't be doing True Lies 2," he told Coming Soon!'s Chuck the Movieguy. Definitely disappointing news to hear. [...]

[02.04.2002] About.com meldet, dass "True Lies 2" gestorben ist...
Bill Paxton has some unfortunate news for True Lies fans. Though rumor has it James Cameron wrote a script for a sequel, Paxton, who is friends with Cameron and played the sleazy used car salesman in True Lies, said he doubts such a thing will ever come to be. "I don't think there's going to be a True Lies 2, but I'm not the person to talk to about that," Paxton said. "I made a trip to Titanic with Jim back in August and September. I made four descents down to Titanic and [the sequel] came up. I think in light of the events of September, I don't think Jim Cameron will be in any way, shape or form involved in a sequel to that movie. That's my opinion. I can't really speak for Jim."
As for the script news previously reported, Paxton said, "That's one of those rumors that just goes around. I'm not really privy to it."

[08.02.2002] The Arnold Fan sprach mit Tom Arnold über seinen grössten Stunt in "True Lies 2"...
When Tom Arnold was asked by The ARNOLD FAN "to tell me about the toughest stunt he needs to perform in True Lies 2 that he is not looking forward to" he too claimed he couldn't disclose much information in respect to James Cameron and his brilliant script. However, he did tease me by telling me one of his biggest stunts is over-the-top and involves "weightlessness". Tom confirmed to me that shooting of True Lies 2 would begin next year... like he says ever year.

[07.02.2002] Bei Coming Soon! gibt es ein Kommentar von Schwarzenegger zu "True Lies 2"...
The script is almost written. Jim Cameron is going to go into the script one more time and see if any further revisions need to be made due to the terrorist attack.

[...] Arnold Schwarzenegger says that a script was turned in last week for "True Lies II." Details? Schwarzenegger tells this column, "Jim Cameron finished the script a few months ago. But I'm not sure it will shoot this year. I'm going to go away for a long time to do 'Terminator,' and it's not my style to go away again so quickly and do another huge movie. I like to do one movie a year at the most. We'll shoot it next year. We have a good script. There does need to be some changes because it deals with some terrorists act of some sort. But it's pretty much done."
Jamie Lee Curtis is also expected to return. [...]
