MTV sprach mit M. Night Shyamalan über "Unbreakable 2"...
[...] Back in June during "The Last Airbender" press junket, the filmmaker told me he was searching for "the right story" for "Unbreakable 2." Now, promoting the first of his "Night Chronicles" film series, "Devil," Shyamalan once again fielded the question - and revealed that his "Unbreakable 2" story will indeed hit the big screen, but as a completely different film.
"I cannibalized the idea for the sequel to 'Unbreakable' for one of the 'Night Chronicles,'" revealed Shyamalan.
"It was such a cool idea for a villain, and it was actually originally in the script for 'Unbreakable,' and it was too much," he said of his reasons for excising the element that was intended to become "Unbreakable 2." "There were too many villains, so I pulled this villain out and was like, 'I'll make this the second flick.'"
However, as the filmmaker got caught up in other projects and "Unbreakable 2" became less likely, the seed of that idea still managed to grow.
"I fleshed it out more and more, and thought, 'This could be a standalone movie,'" he said. "I'll just say it: the third 'Night Chronicles' movie is what would have been the sequel [to 'Unbreakable']. So now I need to come up with a new idea."
Shyamalan also semi-validated "Unbreakable" fans' appreciation for the 2000 film, admitting that it's also one of his own favorites.
"Literally, that's the question I get asked the most anywhere around the world - if I'm making the sequel to 'Unbreakable,'" he laughed. "I love that movie. 'Unbreakable' and 'The Village' are my favorite two movies of mine."

[23.02.2010] Wie CS! meldet, sprach MTV mit Bruce Willis über "Unbreakable 2"...
[...] Willis also told the network that M. Night Shyamalan is still thinking about doing an Unbreakable 2. "I talked to [Shyamalan] over the holidays, and he is still thinking about doing the fight movie between me and Sam that we were gonna do," he said. "We chose to do the origin."
He says he's up for it as long as Samuel L. Jackson is.

[24.09.2008] MTV sprach mit M. Night Shyamalan über "Unbreakable 2"...
[...] "I tell you I get asked about it all the time, so it’s not [an idea] I ever forget," Shyamalan told MTV News. "I genuinely just asked this question the other day - should I make ‘Unbreakable 2’?"
If Shyamalan does indeed decide to revisit "Unbreakable," he’ll have at least one of the original film’s stars ready and willing to join up - Samuel L. Jackson, who played the very-breakable villain, Elijah Price, in the movie.
"Every time I see [Shyamalan], he says, ‘I’ve written this thing for you,’ so I say, ‘why are you always doing these movies I’m not in?’" said Jackson.
According to both Shyamalan and Jackson, "Unbreakable" was originally intended to be a trilogy, but a series of bad reviews as well as fan and film critic misconception of Shyamalan’s work quickly tabled the idea of a possible franchise. As Jackson put it, "He was a victim of what Quentin [Tarrantino] was a victim of. ‘Jackie Brown’ is a great movie, but it’s not ‘Pulp Fiction 2.’ ‘Unbreakable’ is a great movie, but it’s not ‘I see f**king dead people.’"
Likewise, Shyamalan has his own take on the lack of a sequel. "I made the mistake of getting caught up in the hype of the immediate reaction of the movie, which, experience has shown me, is not accurate to any of my movies," he explained. "And If I had been more confident and said ‘I believe in that movie, I love that movie, and I should just go start writing the second one," that would’ve been the right move. I’ve still been thinking about it a lot and wonder if it’s too late."
Shyamalan even sat down with Jackson during the film’s production to discuss where his character could and would go had the film spawned a sequel.
"Back then we talked about what the rest would entail," recalled Jackson. "I broke out of the mental institution. I’m out there doing stuff and ["Unbreakable" co-star Bruce Willis' "David Dunn" is] after me. It’s very cool. He still wears that rain thing, that windbreaker."
So the idea seems to be there, and Jackson’s ready to break out the funky hair-do(n’t) and purple suit, so - bottom line - will we see an "Unbreakable 2," Mr. Shyamalan?
"I do love the [comic book movie] genre, I just wanna make sure that I’m able to express who I am," explained Shyamalan. "I don’t want to get so lost in the subject that I have to neuter everything that’s me in it, so maybe ‘Unbreakable’ is the comic book thing I should do - I keep coming back to that."
We’ll take that as a solid "maybe."

[25.08.2004] Moviehole über "Unbreakable 2"...
According to a report on the Counting Down website, M.Night Shyamalan is still considering doing a sequel to "Unbreakable". M.Night told Howard Stern that he didn't think the public were exactly screaming out for a follow-up, but that doesn't mean he isn't keen on doing one.
Shyamalan also expressed his interested in working with star Bruce Willis again, meaning it's more than likely than Bruno will be back for seconds if it does happen.
News of an "Unbreakable" sequel first surfaced on Aint it Cool a few months back. According to their scooper, Shyamalan's idea for the sequel - egged on by pleasing DVD sales of the original - was to have it focus on Willis's character adjusting to his new status. It was noted that Original co-star Samuel L.Jackson probably wouldn't be involved.

Writer/director M. Night Shyamalan told SCI FI Wire that he originally wanted to do a sequel to his superhero film Unbreakable, but thought better of it when critics and audiences reacted lukewarmly to the movie. "I would have, but I just didn't feel enough love... That's the true answer. Most people won't give you the true answer. I just didn't feel enough love."
Shyamalan added that he was a bit surprised by the negative reaction to the movie, which starred Bruce Willis as a reluctant hero. "I was mostly surprised at the lack of the acknowledgment of what at least we aspired to do, [which] was to do the classy, non-fighting [non-Green-] Goblins-on-the-roof version [of a comic-book story]. Spider-Man was the goblins on the roof. I liked Spider-Man a lot. And my favorite part of it was the first hour, again, becoming Spider-Man. That's what I like, and that's what I wanted to make a movie of. And yeah, I have other ideas for Mr. Glass [Samuel L. Jackson] and Bruce's character, but ... ."
Asked if he might be persuaded to do a sequel, Shyamalan said, "I don't know. There's a lot of [fans], like when we had the first screening of Signs, these Unbreakable fanatics came out in force. And I was like, wow. They all came out. They came out with the DVDs and the posters. I was like, holy moley. And there was one Sixth Sense DVD there. And everybody else was Unbreakable. And I was like, wow. I guess there is a little cult thing going on. But that was really sweet. I don't know. I don't know. Maybe."
