Hollywoodreporter.com berichtet über die US-Einspielergebnisse... Disney's boxoffice "Treasure" hunt continued to strike gold during the long New Year's weekend.
The Nicolas Cage starrer "National Treasure: Books of Secrets" unearthed an estimated $55.4 million during the five-day frame, easily topping the domestic boxoffice for a second holiday session. The action sequel, which marked a modest 21% drop from its opening weekend, now boasts a 12-day cume of $143.8 million. [...]

Bei Twitch gibt es eine Kritik zum Sequel... Und CS! berichtet über die US-Einspielergebnisse... [...] This was a busy pre-Christmas weekend with five new movies in wide release trying to shake up last week's juggernaut duo of Will Smith's I Am Legend (Warner Bros.) and the family comedy Alvin and the Chipmunks (Fox). [...]
The winner of that battle was clearly Nicolas Cage, starring in the first sequel of his career as he returned for producer Jerry Bruckheimer's National Treasure: Book of Secrets (Disney), which grossed an estimated $45.5 million in its opening weekend, an opening 30% higher than the original movie that might have been even higher if not for the pre-holiday downturn in theaters. CS! meldet... Nicolas Cage is known for not doing sequels, but that seems to be changing. [...]
Although the second "National Treasure" installment won't hit theaters until December 21, he's already considering a third film.
"With 'National Treasure,' I believe that it should become more and more 'International Treasure,' Cage told us. "I was very happy to see that we went to London, England and Paris, France, but I'd like to see the movie go wider still. I'd like to go into Africa, Egypt, Asia, and keep going. My hope is that Ben is recruited and he gets a dossier from these other countries about their history, and has to download it and learn it, and then try to go on these hunts on their behalf. That would be a lot of fun for me."

The Rapid City Journal berichtet ein weiteres Mal über die Dreharbeiten... [...] The production was originally scheduled to wrap up after a few days, but the filmmakers were still shooting near Mount Rushmore on Wednesday.
Michael Singer, unit publicist for "National Treasure: Book of Secrets," said the schedule calls for another week of shooting.
One reason the schedule was extended, Singer said, is that the crew and cast have been hampered by cold, rainy weather. "Our scenes do not call for rain or snow," he said.
Another reason "National Treasure" is still here, Singer added, is that the director and producers have been wowed by their Black Hills backdrop. In fact, scenes in the film that would have been set in another location were changed so they could be shot here.
"Certain scenes that already existed (in the screenplay) were reconfigured to take advantage of the extraordinary beauty of the Black Hills," Singer said.
The Mount Rushmore carving plays a key role in the new film [...]
And Mount Rushmore tourists have played their part. When the crew asks for quiet, they are.
Olson said she believes the big crowd scene in the Mount Rushmore amphitheater, rained out last Saturday, has been rescheduled for later this week.
And don't be surprised if you see helicopters buzzing around Mount Rushmore in the next few days. Olson said she has been told that as many as two helicopters will be used in filming this week. [...]

The Rapid City Journal meldet... Some of the scenes for the upcoming sequel to "National Treasure" starring Nicolas Cage scheduled to be filmed here Saturday have been canceled due to rain in the forecast.
That meant calling almost 200 of the extras cast from the Rapid City area to let them know they will not be needed. [...]

JoBlo.com weiss mehr über die Besetzung im 2. Teil... NATIONAL TREASURE 2 is already filming in Washington, DC so it's surprising that no casting details have been announced yet. Well that's what JoBlo.com is here for! We've got the scoop on which Academy Award favorites have joined the cast of BOOK OF SECRETS. Signing on to play Nicolas Cage's mother, Emily Gates, is recent Oscar-winner Helen Mirren. She's there to help link Cage's Ben Gates to his family's connection to John Wilkes Booth and the mysterious Knights of the Gold Circle. Now we have our protagonists in Cage and Mirren but a movie is only as strong as its bad guy and Disney has managed to cast one of the best "bad guy" actors around: four time Oscar nominee Ed Harris. Harris will star as Jeb Wilkinson, who has some information about Gates' father and aligns himself as an ally, but...well, you can guess where it goes from here. Talk about some pretty impressive additions to the cast!... Returning to star in SECRETS from the first film are Diane Kruger, Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel. [...]

The Rapid City Journal meldet... Actor Nicolas Cage and the film crew for "National Treasure: Book of Secrets," are expected to film next month at the Black Hills' own national treasure, Mount Rushmore National Memorial.
The memorial plays a role in the plot, according to people who have talked to location scouts for the new movie, which is a sequel to 2004's "National Treasure.
According to online accounts of "National Treasure: Book of Secrets," Cage returns as treasure hunter Ben Gates. Armed with 18 missing pages of John Wilkes Booth's diary, Gates tries to uncover the truth behind the 1865 assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.
The producers have not yet received a filming permit from the National Park Service. Mount Rushmore superintendent Gerard Baker said Wednesday that he and Chief Ranger Mike Pflaum are still reviewing shooting plans. He believes there will no problems getting a permit, however.
Plans include location shooting at Mount Rushmore's Hall of Records, the tall tunnel carved directly behind the monument itself. Baker said he told the producers he wanted only a small film crew to go up there, and he said they were willing to reduce the size of the crew.
"It's an area of concern from a safety standpoint and a security standpoint. I don't mind a few (people) up there," Baker said.
The producers had no plans to film on the face of Mount Rushmore, which is off limits, Baker said.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Jon Turteltaub, who produced and directed National Treasure, have returned for the new film, sometimes called National Treasure II. Actors Diane Kruger, Jon Voight and Harvey Keitel are also reprising their roles from the first movie. It is scheduled for release in December 2007.
Karim Merali, general manager of the Radisson Hotel in Rapid City, confirmed that the National Treasure film crew will be taking over the hotel from April 18 to April 28 while they film the Mount Rushmore segments of the movie.
But don't look for Nicholas Cage wandering around the Radisson lobby. Merali said he is arranging private housing for Cage and director Turteltaub.
Merali said the director was in Rapid City scouting locations recently and liked the food at the hotel's Enigma Restaurant. Because of that, the director decided to book the entire crew into the hotel.
Russ Jobman, general manager of the Mount Rushmore's food and gift concessions, said he, too, has been in contact with film scouts about filming scenes inside the Mount Rushmore gift shop.
Jobman said he was told that Mount Rushmore might figure into the film's climax or its beginning -- the plot is still being written. Other sites such as Sylvan Lake were also scouted by the crew, he said. Merali said he was told the Rushmore scenes would account for about 7 minutes of the movie.
Back in November, the South Dakota Department of Tourism and State Development's film office worked with location scouts for National Treasure II.

CS! sprach mit Nicolas Cage... CS/SHH!: What about "National Treasure 2"? Jerry says you're very involved with the development of that one.
Cage: I think "National Treasure" is a good one, because there are worse things to do than stimulate young people to look in their history books. There is no gunfire, there is no body count. It's really good entertainment for everybody and I enjoy that. I like the idea of playing a historical detective. This one is going to involve Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth and the Booth diary and Confederate gold and it has the potential to be more interesting than the first. [...]

CS! meldet... As part of Buena Vista Pictures' updated 2007 Preview, the studio has confirmed the previous report that the National Treasure sequel will be titled National Treasure: The Book of Secrets.
The subtitle refers to the 18 pages which are actually missing from John Wilkes Booth's (who assassinated Abraham Lincoln) library.
Jon Turteltaub directs and Jerry Bruckheimer executive produces again. "The Book of Secrets" is expected to star Nicolas Cage, Justin Bartha, Diane Kruger, Jon Voight and Harvey Keitel. It is targeted for a December 21, 2007 release.

MTV.com meldet... [...] "I met with Nic yesterday, and it's getting very close," superproducer Jerry Bruckheimer said of "National Treasure 2," the soon-to-shoot sequel to Nicolas Cage's 2004 hit. "We're going to start filming in January." Discussing the flick's script, Bruckheimer revealed, "It's another little treasure hunt, and this time it involves [Abe] Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth and 18 pages which are actually missing from [Lincoln's] diary." Teasing the plot further, Bruckheimer posed the central question of the sequel. "What was in those 18 pages?" [...]

Moviehole sprach mit Jerry Bruckheimer, u.a. über das Sequel... Q- What are you working on?
BRUCKHEIMER: I love Déjà vu, and I'm excited about Pirates 3 which we start filming again in August, so those are the ones that are happening. And we're trying to put together another National Treasure starting in January.
Q - How's that going?
BRUCKHEIMER: We have a screenplay that we're still working on and Nic of course is interested in doing it and how good the screenplay's going to be.
Q- Is there a mystery with an equal component of true American history?
BRUCKHEIMER: Yes. Same thing. We found phenomenal facts about American history and we're going to try to incorporate it into the story. [...]
Q- You said Nic wants to do National Treasure 2. What's the supporting cast? Jon Voight, Sean Bean?
BRUCKHEIMER: No, I think we're past Sean Bean but hopefully we'll have the same group back together again.
Q- Jon Voight, Diane?
BRUCKHEIMER: That's what we're looking at right now. [...]
