Die "The Walking Dead"-Comics von Robert Kirkman gibt es als TV-Serie unter Mitwirkung von Frank Darabont (u.a. Stephen King's "The Green Mile", "Der Nebel") !!!

CS! meldet...
Deadline is reporting that "The Walking Dead" writer/executive producer/director Frank Darabont has let go of the writers on the AMC series, which has been renewed for a 13-episode second season that's likely to debut in October of 2011.
The site adds that Darabont is looking to forgo having a writing staff for the second season and assign scripts to freelancers. No reason is given, though they say that no final decision has been made with all options open, including a possible combination of a writing staff/freelancers.
Darabont wrote two of the first season's six episodes, the pilot and second episode, and he co-wrote/rewrote the other four.
In related news, The Hollywood Reporter says that AMC is planning to release the first season on DVD and Blu-ray in Spring 2011 through Anchor Bay Entertainment.

PopWatch sprach mit dem Comic-Autor Robert Kirkman über die "The Walking Dead"-Episode "Guts"... Und via THR kommt die Meldung, dass die 2. Staffel grünes Licht bekommen hat !!! The Walking Dead is coming back for a 13-episode second season.
The drama series, toplined by Andrew Lincoln, has broken ratings records, with the show reaching more viewers in the 18-49 demo than any other cable TV show after two episodes.
The Walking Dead's series premiere on Halloween drew 5.3 million total viewers and Sunday's "gutsy" episode took in 4.7 million -- that's an incredibly high retention of a record rating and surely made this pickup an easy decision for AMC.
The show was also pre-sold internationally through Fox International Channels, which is also going to distribute the show's second season.
"The Dead has spread!" said Charlie Collier, President, AMC. "No other cable series has ever attracted as many Adults 18-49 as The Walking Dead. This reaffirms viewers’ hunger for premium television on basic cable. We are so proud to be bringing back The Walking Dead again, across the globe."
"I wish all programming decisions were no brainers like this one," said Sharon Tal Yguado, SVP Scripted Programming. "The Walking Dead is a TV masterpiece on so many levels. We want at least 10 seasons, if not more"

Deadline meldet... Robert Kirkman's bestselling comic series The Walking Dead, which already migrated to TV with the upcoming AMC series, will now spawn a trilogy of original novels to be published by Thomas Dunne books, an imprint of St. Martins Press, starting in 2011. The books will be conceptualized and outlined by Kirkman before being developed by horror novelist Jay Bonansinga (Perfect Victim). The books’ plots will take place in the "universe" or context established by Kirkman’s comic series, which is currently in its 77th issue and has sold approximately three million copies worldwide. AMC's The Walking Dead premieres on October 31.

Mehrere "The Walking Dead" Promo-Spots sind online !!! AICN meldet... Writer-director Frank Darabont ("The Shawshank Redemption," "The Green Mile," "The Mist") says the rumor of an early 13-episode second season order for his AMC zombie series "The Walking Dead" is only a rumor.
The filmmaker seems particularly startled at the idea that season two would start production only a month or two after he completes season one.
"Shooting in February? As tired as I am right now getting season one through post, I'd rather shoot myself," Darabont tells Ain't It Cool.
The six-episode first season of "Walking Dead" launches Halloween night on AMC.

Spiegel Online berichtet über das "The Walking Dead"-Franchise... [...]

Slashfilm.com meldet... [...] TVOvermind caught a tidbit in a contest entry that suggests a second season is in the cards, as the contest offers winners the chance to "win a four-day, three-night trip to the location of The Walking Dead’s Season 2 production, plus the opportunity to become one of the undead in a Season 2 episode of The Walking Dead."
Taking this as an unbreakable promise that a second season is happening is too optimistic - if the show arrives this fall and tanks, a follow-up season might easily be scratched. But it can be taken as an indication that AMC is already planning in some form for a second set of episodes.
Perhaps more interesting is that the DVD release of the first season may replicate the black and white aesthetic of the original comic book series by presenting episodes in black and white in addition to the broadcast versions, which will be in color. That’s an unusual move, but not totally surprising, given that Frank Darabont is one of the movers behind the series. His last film, The Mist, was offered in black and white on DVD as well.
That info comes from UGO, which quotes producer Gale Anne Hurd saying the show was shot on Super 16 film (that’s fairly cool) but says that B&W versions are "hinted at" for the DVD. A quote about the B&W isn’t offered by the site, though, so don’t get too excited for that just yet.

Quint von AICN sprach kürzlich mit Robert Kirkman, u.a. über die TV-Serie... Quint: [...] Are you looking to have any sort of involvement in the show?
Robert Kirkman: You know what, I’ll give you guys a little bit of a... I think it might be an exclusive. I don’t think anybody has talked about it yet and I don’t know why it would need to be kept a secret or anything, but I’m actually writing the fourth episode in the six episode first season, so I’ve been spending time in the writer’s room and working with them plumbing out the season.
I just turned in my outline for the fourth episode a week or so ago. I’m going to be pretty involved in the series up to the point of actually writing a few episodes here and there, hopefully as we move into the second season. So yeah, it’s pretty exciting.
[...]
Quint: AMC has, obviously, been very supportive, but what can you get away with on AMC, in terms of graphic language and the intensity of the violence and stuff like that?
Robert Kirkman: You know, we just had a long meeting about this. There are some language restrictions. You’re not going to be dropping the F-bomb on AMC, which is fine. It’s not like if no one ever said the "f" word in WALKING DEAD the comic book, people would miss it.
I think the best way to put it is if you have ever watched BREAKING BAD.... they push the limit in BREAKING BAD quite often. There’s severed heads on the back of turtles, there’s liquefied bodies falling through ceilings, somebody just got their head blown off recently. I don’t want to spoil anything, but there’s very graphic nasty stuff that’s on BREAKING BAD all of the time and the thing that I was very excited to learn about AMC is that there is no limitation to how much of that you can have per episode or per hour or per minute. [...]
Quint: Really?
Robert Kirkman: Anything you have seen in BREAKING BAD we can do every minute of our show. And then also there’s a lot of things you can get away with, because they are zombies, so you will be seeing all kinds of cool stuff that you would expect to see in THE WALKING DEAD: THE TV SHOW, so while it isn’t a pay cable channel, I think that people are still going to get what they want.
Quint: That’s good, because having a neutered zombie show is definitely not ideal, especially when you have people like KNB on board who can tear people up pretty good.
Robert Kirkman: Oh yeah. Nicotero has already been doing make-up tests on all of the zombies and there’s a bite test that I’ve seen. There’s a head shot test... So there’s all kinds of cool stuff that he’s already done on the show that just looks amazing.
Quint: I haven’t seen anything yet, but I’ve heard that Nicotero’s zombies are very Adlard-ish.
Robert Kirkman: Yeah, they are very true to the comics. [...]
Quint: Here’s a question that I know a lot of fans have asked... I’ve seen this pop up a lot in our talkback. Has there been any talk at all about shooting the show in black and white?
Robert Kirkman: No, no there isn’t. I have a concern that if people were flipping the channels and they saw something that was in black and white, they might think it was an old movie. It’s just something that’s usually not done on television and while I think it’s neat and I know Darabont likes black and white a lot, that’s why there’s a black and white version of THE MIST on the DVD and he wanted to do the movie in black and white originally. I don’t know that there’s going to be a black and white version of the show on the DVD. There might be, but it just doesn’t make sense as a television show for a lot of reasons.
One of the things that I’m really adamant about is I want this to be the best show possible and I don’t want there to be any kind of limitations on the show where they are trying to mimic the comic book. I think black and white would be limiting the show only for the reason of making it more like the comic book. And I kind of like that the show is going to be somewhat different than the comic, so that it will be a different experience for people who like the comic and read the comic. I’m fine with it being in color and I think it’s going to be great.
Now it’s not going to be a rainbowy bright color kind of show because I know they are doing a lot of visual stuff to kind of dull things down and not put a lot of bright colors on screen and make it visually interesting and fit the tone of the story, but it’s not going to be black and white. [...]

On Location Vacations meldet... AMC’s upcoming original series, The Walking Dead, will begin filming in Atlanta, GA on June 2nd. So far, the network has ordered five episodes in addition to the pilot.
The series is an adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s novels in which an epidemic sweeps the globe and causes the dead to rise and eat the living. The story is not just filming in Atlanta, it is also set in Atlanta.
Locations scouts have chosen the Fairlie-Poplar District of the city to film a majority of the series since there is less traffic, yet it is still visually stimulating. [...]
In the meantime, the production company is still looking for extras to appear as zombies in the series.
But, all extras must attend ZOMBIE SCHOOL! All of the “zombies’ who have been chosen so far have been put through the paces and have already been attending “class” all week, they’ve also been told they can’t discuss anything about the production and may be fired for even the slightest hint about the production on Twitter, FB, etc. [...]
[05.05.2010]
THR.com meldet... [...] The production has tapped Laurie Holden for the role of Andrea, a key member of the survivor group who has a proficiency with a sniper rifle and falls for a man twice her age.
Holden was in writer-producer-director Darabont's "The Mist" and had a recurring role in the final season of FX's "The Shield." She is repped by APA and Framework.
Also, Adam Fierro has joined the production as a consulting producer. The ICM-repped Fierro has worked on such serialized dramas as "Dexter," "Shield" and "24."

Wie Variety.com meldet, erhielt die TV-Serie "grünes Licht"... AMC has given greenlights to two drama pilots, "The Walking Dead" and "The Killing."
"Walking Dead" is based on the comicbook series about survivors of a zombie apocalypse by Robert Kirkman. Frank Darabont penned the adaptation and is onboard to direct. Gale Anne Hurd of Valhalla Motion Pictures and David Alpert of Circle of Confusion will exec produce with Darabont and Kirkman.
"Walking Dead" revolves around a group of survivors, led by a police officer, who travel the country in search of a safe home.
Working with people like Frank Darabont and Gale Anne Hurd is the right way in for us to deliver a project of distinction in this genre," AMC prexy Charlie Collier said. [...]

Es ist passiert !!! Variety.com berichtet über die geplante TV-Serie...
AMC is venturing into zombie-drama territory with multi-hyphenate Frank Darabont.
Cabler is close to finalizing one of the richest development deals ever with Darabont to write and direct a series adaptation of the Image Comics graphic novel series "The Walking Dead," penned by Robert Kirkman. Gale Anne Hurd of Valhalla Motion Pictures and David Alpert of Circle of Confusion are also on board to exec produce.
Project is set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, in search of a safe place to live. Numerous editions of the "Walking Dead" graphic novels have been published since 2003.
Joel Stillerman, AMC's senior veep of programming, production and original content, said the project appealed to the cabler because of "the quality of the storytelling" in Kirkman's work. The series will stay faithful to the tone of the original novels, he said.
"This is not about zombies popping out of closets," Stillerman said. "This is a story about survival, and the dynamics of what happens when a group is forced to survive under these circumstances. The world (in 'Walking Dead') is portrayed in a smart, sophisticated way."
Stillerman noted that the cabler's annual "Fear Fest" movie showcase around Halloween is one of AMC's most popular programming events of the year.
"We've got an audience that loves this kind of material," he said.
Darabont and Hurd pitched the project to AMC and several other outlets. There is no studio attached yet. The duo's involvement made the project a must-have for the cabler, Stillerman said.
"These are two world-class filmmakers who are also brilliant storytellers with experience in the fantasy genre," he said.

Bei AICN gibt es ein Interview mit James Gunn, dem Regisseur von "Dawn of the Dead" (Remake) und "Slither"...
QUINT: Have you read The Walking Dead comics?
JAMES GUNN: I've read some of it.
QUINT: Do you like it?
JAMES GUNN: I love it, they probably aught to turn that into a movie huh?
KRAKEN: I love that the book is about the characters. The Walking Dead is
not about the zombies, it's about the living.
QUINT: But then there's the gore so you're not saying oh well I'm making a
drama with a couple of zombies in it. It's a zombie movie but its focus is
the characters. It's a very Romero approach without copying him.
JAMES GUNN: I have to read more of those cause so many people, this is like
the 4th time it's come up in the past two weeks.
QUINT: Well it’s funny cause you know, I remember when I watched "Dawn of the Dead" I found I really wished that Ving Rames and his crew didn’t go to the mall. The story that I don’t think has really been told much is what if they stayed on the road, you know and they kept moving. So I remember thinking that when I saw "Dawn", I’m just like man I wonder what that story would have been like if they had kept going. The Walking Dead was very much like that. [...]
