"Pathfinder") beginnen - mit Jason Momoa (u.a. "Stargate Atlantis", "Baywatch") in der Titelrolle !!!
Zuvor sollte der Zeichentrickfilm "Conan: Red Nails" veröffentlicht werden, aber es sieht nicht wirklich danach aus... *g*

MTV.com meldet... No stranger to playing a villain, "Avatar" actor Stephen Lang will soon make the jump from high-tech military to swords and sorcery as the warlord Khalar Singh in "Conan."
Lang confirmed rumors that he'd been offered the role during an interview with MTV News conducted Sunday evening on the Oscars red carpet. Lang, who played Colonel Miles Quaritch in "Avatar," will star opposite Jason Momoa, who recently reported that the film will be based on Robert E. Howard's original "Conan" novels as opposed to past film iterations.
"I've accepted the role of Khalar Singh," Lang told MTV News when asked about the rumor.
The casting was first reported on Latino Review last week, with the site claiming Lang had been offered the role and citing an anonymous source within Millenium Films.
"I have no idea how I'm going to do it," Lang laughed. "First I'm going to find out how I'm going to sound. I'm going to get back on a Mongolian pony and ride like the wind. I'm going to flash my scimitar. I'm going to cut the nuts off Conan and his father." [...]

Latino Review meldet... [...] Rachel Nichols, the hottie who played Scarlett in G.I. JOE and the red headed Orion woman Cadet Gaila in Star Trek looks like she got the Tamara gig in Marcus Nispel’s "Conan." Nichols would be the 2nd G.I. JOE cast member to join Conan - Leo Howard, who played young Snake Eyes booked the young Conan gig as we first reported here.
Nichols edged out other contenders like Cloverfield’s Jessica Lucas and the L Word’s Sarah Shahi.

A master of martial arts, she has been trained to be the Queen’s servant, bodyguard and best friend. She and many other female bodyguards to the queen have been in hiding most of their lives because of the curse of Acheron, which would take the queen’s life to bring almost immortal power to its king. When Khalar Singh, a powerful warlord with ambitions to become the king of Acheron, storms the monastery and captures all of the novitiates, she is separated from Ilira, the one she must protect. With all of her strength and will, Tamara is determined to find and rescue her. She finds herself in league with Conan because of a mutual need to find Khalar Singh. She is not in the least intimidated by Conan’s size or grim demeanor and their alliance eventually blossoms into something that surprises them both... LEAD

[...] Director Marcus Nispel is on track to start production March 15 in Bulgaria - if they can find the right barbarian. Last weekend, it seemed like things came down to two buff finalists: Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen in the Twilight Saga sequels New Moon and Eclipse), and Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex in the TV series Stargate: Atlantis). Suddenly, Millennium and partner Lionsgate decided today to look at another unnamed but better established actor before deciding. [...]

[...] "I've talked to the producers about doing something for 'Conan,'" actor Dolph Lundgren told MTV News [..].
"Conan" shares a team of producers with Lundgren's upcoming Sylvester Stallone film "The Expendables," which might have opened the way for the opportunity. Asked what type of role he'd be looking for, Lundgren cautioned that casting is still going on and whether there is a role for him at all likely wouldn't be decided until 2010.
"It's too early," he said, explaining that he didn't expect to know more until "probably next year."
As a screen presence with a considerable legacy behind him, Lundgren might be a good fit for the Khalar Singh part, described in the movie's casting call as "commanding in size and manner, a warlord and formidable warrior, brilliant, cruel, weathered and tanned by the many campaigns he has waged and won." Other parts in the casting call include Conan's father, Corin, and a mercenary named Lucius. [...]

Lionsgate and Nu Image/Millennium, the two companies behind the Conan reboot, might have found their new Conan -- and he bears striking similarities to the old Conan.
The companies are in talks with a 41-year-old Austrian actor named Roland Kickinger to play the title role that Arnold Schwarzenegger made famous in the 1982 classic "Conan the Barbarian."
There are more than a few eerie parallels between the personalities.
Like Schwarzenegger, Kickinger is a bodybuilder- turned-actor from the Central European country.
Like the California governor, he also had a role as a T-800 in the "Terminator" franchise (in Warner Bros.' current "Terminator Salvation").
And in a you-can't-make-this-stuff-up turn, Kickinger actually played a Conan-era version of Schwarzenegger in "See Arnold Run," the 2005 A&E biopic about the actor-turned-politician.
Universal’s original "Conan," which vaulted Schwarzenegger to fame and a slew of action tentpoles, follows a man who seeks revenge on the person who sold him into slavery.
Few details on the new pic have been revealed, though the character is expected to be given a polish, with the filmmakers drawing influences from more recent action pics. Shooting will begin in the fall at Avi Lerner’s Bulgaria-based studio. Marcus Nispel, who helmed New Line’s "Friday the 13th" reboot, is set to direct.
No word on whether Arnold will make a cameo -- or on whether Kickinger will run for governor.

Variety.com meldet...
Marcus Nispel has been set by Nu Image/Millennium Films to direct "Conan," ending a nine-year development ordeal to reinvent the Robert E. Howard-created barbarian first immortalized onscreen by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1982.
Production on the remake is set to start late this year in Bulgaria and South Africa. Nu Image/Millennium is making the film in a co-production with Lionsgate. Avi Lerner and Joe Gatta are producing with Fredrick Malmberg. Malmberg runs Paradox, the company that holds the rights to "Conan" and the other hero franchises in the Howard library.
The film will be the most financially ambitious ever for Lerner, with a script by Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, whose credits include "Sahara" and "Cowboys and Aliens."
Paradox originally set the project at Warner Bros. but declined to ink a new rights deal after numerous unsuccessful attempts to make it with directors like Larry and Andy Wachowski and Robert Rodriguez. Malmberg then set it with Lerner in a seven-figure deal with strong progress to production stipulations. Lerner flirted with Brett Ratner last year, but the filmmaker could not commit in a timely fashion and Lerner couldn't wait.
That opened the door for Nispel, who'll make "Conan" his third redo, after "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Friday the 13th." For Nispel, "Conan" is a job he has dreamed about since his childhood.
Nispel said he will blend his childhood imaginings of the character with the influence of the famous Conan illustrations by Frank Frazetta, and the influence of such viscerally violent period films as Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto."
"Conan" maintains a following through such ancillary properties as a Dark Horse comicbook series, a vidgame for Xbox 360 and a Funcom/Eidos multiplayer online role-playing game. [...]

Earlier today, Devin over at CHUD reported that James McTeigue, Neil Marshall and Christophe Gans were candidates for directing Conan at Lionsgate.
Although those three names are candidates, they're actually now at the lower tier.
It's true, Marcus Nispel is a contender...
...but he is actually Lionsgate's 2nd choice.
According to a trusted source, you know who is actually the top contender that Lionsgate wanted originally and is now back in the fold?
Joanou directed such films as State of Grace, Final Analysis, and most recently Gridiron Gang. Joanou also directed one of my favorite films from back in the day - Three O' Clock High.
Lionsgate is really gung ho on the guy and feel that he can deliver the barbaric hard R that the studio wants and the fans expect.
Lionsgate wants to lock down a director as soon as possible because Conan is a top priority for the studio and they want to start prepping the movie to shoot this year. [...]

In Michael Bassett's Blog schrieb der Regisseur über "Conan"... A few people have said I should throw my hat in the ring for the new Conan movie. My hat has always been in the ring for Conan but no one cared. I’d LOVE to take on the big guy. Up until now there would have been just no chance. And, to be honest, I still think there’s no chance. Kane has hardly been seen by anyone yet and though Harry’s review is amazingly generous, a single review doesn’t quite get me through that particular door. Having said that, I did sit down with an exec at Lionsgate earlier in the year and mention how interested I was but that was when Bret Ratner was still attached. The exec was great guy, listened politely and was clearly very keen to make a good Conan pic. Truth is, to do it well it needs a big budget and since you’re probably going to have to go with a relative unknown for the lead you need a director who has a track record and brings a big budget. But I know you can do amazing things for not much money, so long as you plan properly, have a good team and loads of passion - when you see Kane, you’ll know what I mean.
Conan is an amazing character occupying a fabulous world - the design of the creatures, places and landscapes alone would be so much fun - and the fights, oh dear god the fights... A proper Conan pic would be a dream come true but I don’t think it’s going to be me bringing it to you. Devin at CHUD hears James McTeague is in line for the gig, so we’ll see. [...]
