"Pathfinder")...

SHH! sprach mit dem Produzenten Fredrik Malmberg und dem Regisseur Marcus Nispel...
[...] SHH: Moving forward, the plan is to expand out Conan's cinematic universe?
Malmberg: Yeah, I think the beauty of the Conan universe is that it's not really a three story arc. There are so many episodes where he is a thief, a warrior, a pirate or a king. He's everything. It's all up to the audiences whether they come to the theaters. The verdict is out there.

As a screenwriter on Conan The Barbarian, I get asked this question a lot.
The world of Hyboria, as Robert E. Howard described it, is fleshy and brutal. Bloody beheadings and bare-chested slave girls abound. However, while the movie is unflinching in its depiction of barbarism, slavery and warfare, the violence and nudity emerge from the fabric of the story. It isn't gratuitous.
Robert E. Howard’s stories, although violent and perverse for their time, were not intrusively graphic either. So this is ultimately a movie about the character Conan, a character that will hopefully launch a healthy franchise of movies with stories and characters that celebrate Howard’s work. Yes, you’ll see blood and boobs, but this isn’t a Cinemax movie; it's epic action/fantasy.
And yes, it's rated R.
MTV sprach mit Jason Momoa...
[...] Momoa was quick to admit that he has yet to watch the "Conan" movies starring Schwarzenegger - and he doesn't plan to do so until after he's seen his own performance.
"I haven't actually seen the Arnold stuff," he confessed. "I'm excited to see it. I was three years old when it came out... I can't wait to see it. I want to see mine and then I'm going to watch that one, back to back."
"I've never played a role that was played by someone else," he continued. "As an actor, to build the character I wanted to use my imagination and be creative and use my own interpretation."
As for the film itself, Momoa offered his own take on where the new "conan The Barbarian" falls in the character's ever-growing mythology.
"It kind of is an origin story," he explained. "It's rebuilding and rebooting the franchise... It starts with his birth, what happened to his family, what happened to his father-obviously his father is killed-and him going into the pirating and the thieving and wandering and being the degenerate that he is and then usurping a throne and finding out who killed his father. It's a revenge story, with a little bit a love in there." [...]

Examiner sprach mit Ron Perlman...
[...] What can you say about your role in the 2011 remake of "Conan the Barbarian"?
I play Conan’s father. There’s big-time sword action. But I’m only in the movie for 10 minutes. I can’t tell everything, but the first sequence is huge. It’s epic. All I can tell you is that I work with the Conan who’s 11 years old. And there’s a jump cut to Conan the adult, and I’m no longer on the scene. I don’t want to give away anything.
I never worked with [Jason] Momoa, who’s the adult Conan. I only worked with this kid [Leo Howard], who’s a phenomenal actor. And he’s like a North American champion of swords since he was 4 years old. He had a black belt [in martial arts] by the time he was 4. He’s a swordsman and he’s mind-boggling. He made me look like a piker. [...]
Lionsgate has picked a release date for Marcus Nispel's reimagining of Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian in 3D a.k.a. Conan 3D, and that date is August 19, 2011, which means it will be facing two other 3D movies, Fright Night 3D and Robert Rodriguez's Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World. (Final Destination 5 opens in 3D just one week later!)
The film stars relative newcomer Jason Momoa in the title role as the mythical warrior with the cast rounded out by Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Ron Perlman, Said Taghmaoui and Rose McGowan.
Lang's character has remained under wraps. Recently, though, the 58-year-old revealed Khalar's weapon of choice, as well as his overall look.
"I have a very cool and difficult to master - it took me many, many years to master - a double-bladed parallel scimitar which can do all kinds of things, can break apart and can turn into a scythe," he said. "It requires tremendous dexterity and deftness and agility to handle it, none of which I've mastered!"
Lang and his co-stars worked with choreographers from "300" to create some eye-popping fight sequences. Other top alumni from "300," including creature designer Shaun Smith and makeup wizard Scott Wheeler, are also involved in the "Conan" project. And the look for Lang's villainous character is one he can't wait for the public to check out.
"I wanted him to be like a knife," Lang explained. "I wanted him, in profile, to almost disappear if possible. I actually have some photos that I am forbidden to show right now. I know there are these photos of Jason out there, this gorgeous stud of a Conan leaping around shirtless. Truth of the matter is, I kick his ass for almost two hours." [...]

Rose McGowan has joined Jason Momoa, Rachel Nichols, Stephen Lang, Bob Sapp, Leo Howard, Ron Perlman and Said Taghmaoui in director Marcus Nispel's Conan.
McGowan will play an evil half-human/half-witch.
Filming began on Monday for the Nu Image/Millennium Films project at Nu Boyana Studios in Sofia, Bulgaria. [...]
Said Taghmaoui, who played Breaker in the summer hit "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," has booked a role in "Conan," Nu Image/Millennium's take on the barbarian warrior created by Robert E. Howard.
Stephen Lang, the bad guy in "Avatar," has come aboard as the villain of the movie directed by Marcus Nispel.
Taghmaoui is playing a leader of thieves who is saved by Conan (Jason Momoa) and later offers him aid. Lang is a ruler in search of a queen whose blood will bring life to the demonic minions of a long-lost god.
Mickey Rourke was in talks to play Conan's father, but those discussions fell apart. The role remains open.
Shooting is scheduled to start this week in Bulgaria.
Taghmaoui, repped by Innovative Artists and the Collective, also appeared in "The Kite Runner" and had a stint on ABC's "Lost." [...]
[...] Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman, will replace Mickey Rourke as Corin, Conan's father ... and a single dad at that! Lionsgate begins shooting the remake of the 1982 classic Conan the Barbarian in Bulgaria later this month, with Marcus Nispel (who brought you last year's umpteenth outing of Friday the 13th) directing Hawaiian male model Jason Momoa in the title role. [...]
No stranger to playing a villain, "Avatar" actor Stephen Lang will soon make the jump from high-tech military to swords and sorcery as the warlord Khalar Singh in "Conan."
Lang confirmed rumors that he'd been offered the role during an interview with MTV News conducted Sunday evening on the Oscars red carpet. Lang, who played Colonel Miles Quaritch in "Avatar," will star opposite Jason Momoa, who recently reported that the film will be based on Robert E. Howard's original "Conan" novels as opposed to past film iterations.
"I've accepted the role of Khalar Singh," Lang told MTV News when asked about the rumor.
The casting was first reported on Latino Review last week, with the site claiming Lang had been offered the role and citing an anonymous source within Millenium Films.
"I have no idea how I'm going to do it," Lang laughed. "First I'm going to find out how I'm going to sound. I'm going to get back on a Mongolian pony and ride like the wind. I'm going to flash my scimitar. I'm going to cut the nuts off Conan and his father." [...]
Latino Review meldet...
[...] Rachel Nichols, the hottie who played Scarlett in G.I. JOE and the red headed Orion woman Cadet Gaila in Star Trek looks like she got the Tamara gig in Marcus Nispel’s "Conan." Nichols would be the 2nd G.I. JOE cast member to join Conan - Leo Howard, who played young Snake Eyes booked the young Conan gig as we first reported here.
Nichols edged out other contenders like Cloverfield’s Jessica Lucas and the L Word’s Sarah Shahi.
According to the leaked casting breakdown from last year...
Tamara is 18 to 24 years old, Caucasian or Middle Eastern, open to all ethnicities; beautiful, studious, correct, a novitiate of a Greek influenced monastery. A master of martial arts, she has been trained to be the Queen’s servant, bodyguard and best friend. She and many other female bodyguards to the queen have been in hiding most of their lives because of the curse of Acheron, which would take the queen’s life to bring almost immortal power to its king. When Khalar Singh, a powerful warlord with ambitions to become the king of Acheron, storms the monastery and captures all of the novitiates, she is separated from Ilira, the one she must protect. With all of her strength and will, Tamara is determined to find and rescue her. She finds herself in league with Conan because of a mutual need to find Khalar Singh. She is not in the least intimidated by Conan’s size or grim demeanor and their alliance eventually blossoms into something that surprises them both... LEAD

[...] Bob Sapp, the MMA superstar has been cast as Ukafa in Marcus Nispel's "CONAN."
According to a casting breakdown...
Ukafa is in his 30s-40, very dark-skinned African or African American, massively framed at six-foot-five, gold-toothed, hardened by a lifetime of war, a leader of Kushite Tribemen from the savannahs of Kush. Ukafa is Khalar Singh’s second in command, jealous that Singh’s son, Fariq, will one day be warlord. He obeys his leader but plots the overthrow of his son. He is a mighty warrior and unbeatable in battle-until he comes face to face with Conan. [...]

According to Deadline Hollywood, Lionsgate and Millenium Films have picked the actor to play the lead role in Marcus Nispel's reinvention of Robert E. Howard's Conan and it's 30-year-old Jason Momoa, who may best be known for his run on "Stargate Atlantis" and who also appears in HBO's upcoming mini-series "Game of Thrones."
At the same time, Latino Review says that an offer has been put out to Mickey Rourke to play Conan's father Corin.
The movie is scheduled to start production in Bulgaria on March 15.
[...] Director Marcus Nispel is on track to start production March 15 in Bulgaria - if they can find the right barbarian. Last weekend, it seemed like things came down to two buff finalists: Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen in the Twilight Saga sequels New Moon and Eclipse), and Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex in the TV series Stargate: Atlantis). Suddenly, Millennium and partner Lionsgate decided today to look at another unnamed but better established actor before deciding. [...]
[...] "I've talked to the producers about doing something for 'Conan,'" actor Dolph Lundgren told MTV News [..].
"Conan" shares a team of producers with Lundgren's upcoming Sylvester Stallone film "The Expendables," which might have opened the way for the opportunity. Asked what type of role he'd be looking for, Lundgren cautioned that casting is still going on and whether there is a role for him at all likely wouldn't be decided until 2010.
"It's too early," he said, explaining that he didn't expect to know more until "probably next year."
As a screen presence with a considerable legacy behind him, Lundgren might be a good fit for the Khalar Singh part, described in the movie's casting call as "commanding in size and manner, a warlord and formidable warrior, brilliant, cruel, weathered and tanned by the many campaigns he has waged and won." Other parts in the casting call include Conan's father, Corin, and a mercenary named Lucius. [...]
