[21.12.2004] Ananova meldet...
Hurrah, it's true - JK Rowling has finished the sixth Potter novel, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince.
It will hit the shops on July 16 next year and is sure to spark a frenzy among Potter fans.
Rowling's UK publisher, Bloomsbury, said: "We are pleased to announce that JK Rowling has completed Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, the sixth book in the Harry Potter series, and that it has been delivered to Bloomsbury." [...]
One character will not survive the sixth book but Jo has of course refused to identify the person.
Harry Potter is definitely through to the seventh and final book - although his creator will not reveal whether he makes it after that.

[20.12.2004] Bei CS! gibt es erste offizielle Bilder aus der HP4-Verfilmung und folgende Meldung zum 6. HP-Band...
"Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling has made the announcement on her official website (the message can be found when you figure out how to open the door on the site) that book six, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," is completed and has been delivered to Rowling's English language publishers, who hope to announce the publication date within 24 hours.
She says, "Although I have joked about HP&THBP racing my third baby into the world, I have in fact had all the time I needed to tinker with the manuscript to my satisfaction and I am as happy as I have ever been with the end result. I only hope you feel that it was worth the wait when you finally read it!" [...]

[01.12.2004] CS! meldet...
Director Mike Newell talked to Variety about helming the fourth "Harry Potter" movie, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. He says he wanted to introduce the darker tone himself:
"Of course, what I had wanted to do was introduce the darker adolescent tone myself and found to my horror that Alfonso had gotten there before me and with great style and determination. And so I think there is a kind of tap dance between the mixture the audience wants, which of course is determined by the books," and what each individual director might want to bring to it.
Newell also addressed the long length of the fourth book and not splitting it into two films:
In the end, screenwriter Steve Kloves was among those who pressed for a single movie. "Steve wasn't sure what to do with the material he would have had to dispense with in order to make the first one ... coherent enough for a whole second film," says Newell.
So the challenge became how to make this film different enough to stand apart yet recognizably of a piece with the others. "What you do," says the helmer, "is you pack it with references and suggestions and so forth which, of course, you have taken from the book. So that a reader coming to the film goes, 'Oh, I see. I get it. They did it that way.' You're the guardian of the book, and at the same time, you have absolutely to be able to step off the books and say, 'We had better distill this.' Distillation is a very good word for it."
In related news, Jason Isaacs recently posted a brief message to his fans about the return of his character, Lucius Malfoy, in "Goblet of Fire."
"Like I said, I'm doing a spit and a cough in Harry Potter in February. For the Potter fans you'll remember that Lucius is only on 2 pages of the book so, proportionately, I'm barely in the film but I wasn't going to miss the chance to wear my Pamela Anderson wig again. If only to make sure that I can remember the voice for number five."
And speaking of number five, director David Yates told UK paper This is Wiltshire that he will be helming Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but that he's not yet signed. "I will be directing the film but there are a few more details to be finalised on the deal over the next week," he said.

[19.11.2004] CS! meldet...
British director David Yates will helm Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix for Warner Bros. Pictures. Michael Goldenberg is taking over scripting duties from the first four films' scribe Steve Kloves for producer David Heyman.
In the fifth book, by J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter is faced with the unreliability of the very government of the magical world and the impotence of the authorities at Hogwarts. Despite this (or perhaps because of it), he finds depth and strength in his friends, beyond what even he knew; boundless loyalty; and unbearable sacrifice.
The movie is scheduled to start production late 2005 and hit theaters in Summer 2007.
Yates directed the 1998 feature The Tichborne Claimant and the prize-winning TV dramas The Way We Live Now and miniseries State of Play. He's also attached to direct Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany in the Warner Independent Pictures' Brideshead Revisited.

[11.11.2004] CS! meldet...
Producer David Heyman tells ComingSoon.net that Steven Kloves, who wrote the first four "Harry Potter" screenplays, will be stepping aside for the fifth installment in the series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, to return to directing.
Kloves wrote and directed the popular 1989 film The Fabulous Baker Boys with Michelle Pfeiffer, Jeff and Beau Bridges, and he is anxious to get back into directing by adapting Mark Haddon's best-selling novel The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, which Heyman will also produce.
Heyman will be working with writer Michael Goldenberg on the script for "Order of the Phoenix," with the usual final approval by J.K. Rowling herself. Goldenberg wrote Jodie Foster's Contact, the 2003 adaptation of Peter Pan, as well as the screenplay for the upcoming Where the Wild Things Are film, which is to be directed by Spike Jonze.
At the time of this writing, the plans are to start shooting "Order of the Phoenix" in January 2006 for a Spring or Fall 2007 release. A director should hopefully be announced by the end of the year.

[25.10.2004] DH meldet...
Patrick Doyle has been confirmed as the composer, not Jarvis Cocker as reported yesterday. Cocker is involved in a minor capacity though.

[22.10.2004] DH meldet...
Whilst John Williams may be seeing his "Superman" theme getting a revival, his "Harry Potter" tunes seem to be going the way of the dodo.
Jarvis Cocker is set to write the soundtrack for the next film - the currently shooting "Harry Potter & The Goblet of Fire" according to recent reports in British tabloid The Sun. Movie bosses apparently wanted a trendy British musician to score the new film rather than utilising stalwart John Williams.
The good news is that Cocker was the top choice by the various cast, including Radcliffe for the job. A film insider says: "He is a very talented musician who is a big fan of movies and knows exactly how they work. You may just think Jarvis is the bloke in specs who fronted Pulp but he is a man with many hidden depths".

[30.06.2004] CNN berichtet, dass der 6. HP-Band den Titel "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince" tragen wird...
Rowling made the announcement on her Web site, JKRowling.com, although it took some knowledge of her site by dedicated fans to reveal the title. The path to find the title was explained on a fan's site, WizardNews.com, and was confirmed Tuesday by her literary agent, Christopher Little Agency, which was reached in London by CNN/Money.
Rowling is still in the process of writing the book and no release date has been set, according to her agent. [...]
Rowling said that she had once considered the new title for her second book, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets."
"Certain crucial pieces of information in book six were originally planned for 'Chamber of Secrets,' but very early on I realized that this information's proper home was book six," she wrote on the home page.
She seemed to confirm the Half Blood Prince title on the Daily News page by adding "The HBP is neither Harry nor Voldemort," she wrote. Lord Voldemort is the series' villain.

Director Alfonso Cuaron believes the film's teenage stars will stay in their roles for the full seven-film series.
But producer David Heyman reckons the films will be unable to keep pace with the books and will need younger stars.
Daniel Radcliffe, who plays Harry, Rupert Grint, as Ron, and Emma Watson, who plays Hermione, have already begun work on the fourth film, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
And Cuaron said he thought it would be "priceless" if the three stars continued their roles until the end of the seven-story series.
"Right now they're doing number four. There's only three more to go. I just hope they keep the same cast for the whole thing," he said.
"So far, they're holding up very good, the way that they are ageing. I don't think Dan is going to get way much taller or suddenly grow another eye. Same with Emma, and Rupert is OK."
But Heyman says he thought it doubtful whether the trio would to star in the fifth film, The Order of the Phoenix.
"There will come a point when one, two or all three of them will move on. I don't know when that will be - with the fifth, sixth or seventh movies - but it's inevitable," he said. [...]

Your character isn't in Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban, but are you coming back for the fourth or fifth films?
I make a tiny cameo appearance in the fourth film, to remind people that I still exist as I have a bit more to do in the fifth one.
To be honest I thought I wouldn't get to be in the fourth film at all, but it will be nice to get the wig out of mothballs and start the slow warm-up for number five where I have some rather juicy and lovely stuff.
I'm looking forward to it, as long as everyone else agrees to do it. [...]

[23.04.2004] Daily Record berichtet über die HP4-Dreharbeiten...
HARRY Potter is set to return to the Highlands in June for a two-day film shoot.
Actor Daniel Radcliffe, who plays the teen wizard in the hit movie series, will be filmed chasing a dragon through Glen Nevis, near Fort William.
But it is likely to be the only piece of Highland action in the latest movie, Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire.
Most of the filming is taking place in Exmoor,Devon, and Leavesden studios in Hertfordshire.
Scotland featured prominently in the first two Potter movies.
This time, focal points such as Hagrid's Hut, the Bridge To Nowhere and the Glenfinnan railway viaduct will only be filmed for continuity shots without actors.
The quidditch match in Harry Potter AndThe Philosopher's Stone was filmed in Glen Nevis. Now Harry will meet the dragon in a maze on the same quidditch field.

[08.04.2004] Laut einem Bericht bei CBBC Newsround sieht es zur Zeit so aus, als würden die Dursleys in HP4 nicht mitspielen !!!
The film of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire looks like it will be a Dursley-free zone, with none of Harry's family featuring in the fourth movie.
Actor Richard Griffiths' agent told Newsround Online that Richard was "very disappointed" not to be appearing as Uncle Vernon in the film.
Griffiths also told a newspaper that he was hoping for a fans' revolt.
He said he'd even asked JK Rowling to try and get his character re-instated, but the fourth book is very long.
Griffiths is reported as saying "I said to JK Rowling: "Couldn't the Dursleys turn up to an open day at Harry's school or something,' but she said, 'I don't think so'."
The book of The Goblet of Fire is so long that there as no way that the filmmakers could fit everything into the movie.
It now looks as if the action will start at The Burrow or the Quidditch World Cup.
Although he says he won't be in this film, Richard Griffith says he's hoping to be back for Order of the Phoenix.

[06.04.2004] HP1 & HP2-Regisseur Chris Columbus zeigte sich gegenüber SF Wire begeistert von Alfonso Cuarons Regiearbeit in HP3...
[...] Columbus, who said he's already seen Azkaban three times, added, "In Azkaban, that kind of scene for me is the first attack on the train by the Dementors. It's such a beautifully directed scene that Alfonso has done. I remember that scene immensely. And there's also Harry's (Daniel Radcliffe) first ride on the hippogryph, which is just magical and poetic. Those are the two scenes that really stick with me. I keep thinking about those scenes constantly and [also about] how proud I am to be involved in them, but mostly how wonderful a job Alfonso has done as a director."

[26.02.2004] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik zu einer Rohfassung von HP3...
[...] The movie was shown lo-rez, with many effects scenes only partially done; lots of shots had red targeting dots still on them for aligning effects; in some cases there were even graphic tags in the shot noting what effect would be added: 'A Leaf Falls,' etc. However dramatically it seemed to all be there and the cut was pretty tight.
The movie is a huge improvement over the first two HP films. It is rich, deep, and dynamic. Director Alfonso Cuaron really knows how to use the camera. The camera is constantly in motion, and there are dramatic and some times extreme angles; but it's not jarring or excessive, everything flows together beautifully. [...]

[...] "As far as I'm concerned it's absolutely possible to do it in one. I think it would be slightly embarrassing to do it in two."
The Four Weddings director will also be taking the franchise in yet another new direction. "It's a classic paranoid thriller in a way. I've spent Christmas watching things like The Parallax View and The Insider and Three Days of the Condor. What you have is a story at the beginning of which the powers of evil have a plan, which is absolutely not revealed to your hero. The kid just wonders into another year at school, then this huge notion of the competition surprises him. But there is, of course, a malign intelligence which is manipulating things. And so he gets more and more suspicious until there is a shoot-out between him and the bad guy. That's a really good, strong thriller shape."

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban director Alfonso Cuaron has revealed that he expects to birng the movie in at less than 2 1/2 hours, the shortest of the series so far and well under the nearly three-hour running time of the last installment, Chamber of Secrets.
This time, Rowling's story lent itself to a tighter script than the first two flicks, Cuaron told The Associated Press. "I'm sure that somebody is going to miss something very specific that was ingrained in his or her mind when they read the book. But I think fans are going to love the movie," Cuaron said.
A friend convinced Cuaron to take the director's chair. "In serving Harry Potter, you may do the best film of your career," Cuaron said. "It turned out to be probably the most free experience I ever had in a studio movie."
