[...] he gave us a tease of what fans of the books and movies can expect:
"They made the last book into two films, and it was a fantastic experience because everyone who is left alive is back... and even some of the dead people," he said with a sly smile. "There is one long sequence where everyone who is left standing is there when the forces of good meet the forces of evil."
"I think over the years that they've been adapting these incredibly popular and successful books, they've increasingly become more and more confident in their ability to make great cinema experiences out of it and where they need to change the book or the central thrust of the story, they do it now with real aplomb and with Jo Rowling's blessing," he continued. "Everybody is very savvy to the notion that this is a much-loved franchise and this will be the end of an eighth film, and it needs to have weight and substance and you need to feel drained by the end of it. It's a ten-year roller coaster ride, not a two-hour roller coaster ride, and we all know it and we all felt it, and it was in the air while we were shooting it."
"This franchise goes out in an epic way," he concluded. "I think the end of the films will be a fantastically cinematic and visual feast and it will more than satisfy the readers of the books, but what you won't get is the book on screen. You will get something more and different."
"It's very sad for me," he admitted when asked about how he felt about the movies coming to an end. "I'm a particularly sentimental fool anyway so I was already nostalgic for the history of Harry Potter while I was still making it, and I knew the end was coming. I was always cognizant of the fact I was going to have to pack up my furry friend of a wig and stick it in a box and say goodbye to the cane and any magic powers. All the joy was tinged with sadness for me." [...]

[...] Dubbed a "road movie" by producer David Heyman, Hallows was envisioned by director David Yates as more grounded in reality than the previous Potter movies.
"It's going to feel very real," Yates says. "We're going for a vérité approach. Being away from Hogwarts, they're like these three refugees on the run. They're out in the big bad world, facing real danger, unguarded by those wonderful benign wizards at Hogwarts. They don't have a home to go to.
"We're kind of pulling away from the magic a bit and bringing more reality to it," he says.

[...] The sixth installment of Warner Bros.' hit franchise Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince fell two places to fourth with $8.9 million, down 50% from its last weekend. In four weeks, it has grossed $273.8 million, which is more than any of the previous movies in the franchise did in the same time frame. Currently, it's shooting to be the second-highest grossing movie of the franchise after the first, as it aims for the roughly $292 million made by the previous movie. [...]

[09.07.2009] Bei Empire Online gibt es eine weitere Kritik zu "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" (3/5)...
[...] The standout achievement in the film is knockout spectacle, courtesy of cinematographer Bruno Delbonnel and production designer Stuart Craig, with one climactic sequence amid flames giving Dumbledore his Moses parting the Red Sea moment. That’s the image we’ll remember best until HP7 Part One arrives, ETA November, 2010.
Verdict
We’re marking time before the final battle between Good and Evil, with the promised darkness sitting somewhat clumsily with teen romance and humour.

[...] I am pleased to report that in no way was I disappointed! It was an incredible 2 ½ hours of action, magic, love, fun, frights and romance. The plot is quite complex, but carries on a few weeks after the 5th film left off. [...]
There were so many great scenes I cannot pay reference to them here, suffice to say that I was highly impressed with the acting from an amazing British cast, and a special mention should go to Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood), Jim Broadbent (the aforementioned Prof. Slughorn) and Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) who all did a superb job in this film. The character of young Tom Riddle (Voldemort) was played by a lad called Hero (!) Fiennes-Tiffin (Nephew of Raph Fiennes) who was both creepy and vulnerable, and it was clear in the portrayal of the teenage Voldemort, again seen in the Pensieve, that he had evil plans for the future... The supporting cast was immense, a quick mention should definitely go to Helena Bonham-Carter who plays the character of Bellatrix Lestrange as the crazy witch she is. The film was funny, scary, sad, happy, hilarious, adventurous, dramatic and tense, and I really did feel that I was involved with the film and it stayed with me after I left the cinema.

[...] We are delighted to say that Bill Nighy, who will be taking on the part of Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour for the film, has made new comments about his upcoming appearance in the final installment in the Harry Potter series. Mr. Nighy said: "I don't think I'm allowed to say it but I'm going to be in the next Harry Potter film," he tells us. "I won't say which character, but he's a goodie. I just got the gig." If you don't mind us saying, it's about time, Bill. The rangy actor has been dropping hints for aeons, once complaining that he was "the only British actor who hasn't been in Harry Potter". But has he read the books? "Not yet, but I will!" he says. "It's rather like being in a Shakespeare that way, you know?" [...]

[10.06.2009] THR.com berichtet über HP6 für IMAX...
It appears investors might have noticed Monday that "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" won't arrive at Imax venues until two weeks after the film opens on regular screens.
Shares of Imax dropped 4% on Monday to $7.31 after a Wall Street analyst said the delay "should negatively impact Imax boxoffice results."
"Prince" opens wide July 14. Although it opens on two Imax screens that day -- one in New York and one in Los Angeles -- it won't get the wide Imax treatment until July 29.
The two-week delay is fallout from the decision by Warner Bros. to push "Potter" from its originally scheduled November 2008 opening. The new July opening overlaps with Imax's monthlong window dedicated to Paramount's "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen."
Still, "Potter" contains 12 minutes of 3-D footage that moviegoers can experience only through Imax, so that could cushion the blow, Merriman Curhan Ford analyst Eric Wold said.
"There will obviously be some consumers that choose to wait for the Imax version with its 3-D scenes or will choose to see it for a second time, but we no not believe this will be enough to offset the negative impact from the move," he said.
Wold maintained his "buy" recommendation on Imax shares and predicts the stock will trade at $9-$10 in the next year or so.

[22.04.2009] CS! sprach mit Daniel Radcliffe und dem Produzenten David Heyman über den Schnitt zwischen "Harry Potter und die Heiligtümer des Todes" Teil 1 & 2 und das Ende...
[...] "We've played around with a couple of places," said Heyman, "and ultimately settled on a place that we think is very exciting, and I think quite bold, in that it's not necessarily where one might expect. You want to give a sense of completion, on one hand, but a sense that there's another piece, more to come. We tried one and then Steve (Kloves, screenwriter) came up with the idea to try it another way and when we tried that, it felt just right."
Daniel Radcliffe added that the split is "at a very tense cliffhanger", which may be a bigger clue for fans.
The pair also discussed the coda to the end of the seventh book (*Mild spoilers follow*), which takes place 19 years after the main story. While Heyman is keen to use Benjamin Button-like technology to age the three main actors to play their older selves, Radcliffe is equally keen to get it right.
"I am nervous about that," he told us, "because if it's good I'll be really, really pleased; if it's not good and that's what people are left with, that would be awful. If it's a choice between having me, Rupert and Emma looking a bit stupid and it being slightly comical or having other actors play us, I would go for other actors every time. So, we'll see." [...]

Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double suffered a horror injury in a film set explosion yesterday.
The 25-year-old was rehearsing a flying sequence using a harness when he was sent plummeting by the blast, which was part of the stunt. He was conscious after smashing to the ground but told horrified colleagues: "I can’t feel my legs."
The 25-year-old, who doubles for Harry star Daniel Radcliffe, was sent plunging yesterday by an explosion that was part of the stunt.
A source said: "The stunt double was badly hurt. He was rehearsing a flying scene which involved an explosion and it seems to have gone badly wrong. The guy was rigged up to a harness for the scene and was flying through the air."
"It is thought he may have been caught by the explosion and hit the ground very hard."
"He told crew members who went to help him he couldn’t feel anything from the waist down. Everyone is just hoping he makes a good recovery. It has come as a terrible shock." Paramedics were called to the studio and the stuntman was taken to hospital amid fears he may have been paralysed.
The accident happened at the world famous Leavesden studios near Watford, where tests are being carried out on stunts for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
A spokesman for the studio said: "We can confirm a member of the Harry Potter production was injured in an accident. We are awaiting further news."

[31.12.2008] Bei TLC gibt es paar Scans aus dem Empire Magazine... Und Capone von AICN sprach mit Jason Isaacs, u.a. über "Harry Potter"...
Capone: [...] I know that Lucius is not in the sixth book, but I heard you might still make an appearance in THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE.
JI: I'm not in the sixth book, but I might be a moving painting for a frame. I'm not in the film essentially. Luckily they let me come and say hello to everyone for a day and put my costume on, but essentially I'm not in the film. Number Seven and Number Eight, no one has read the script yet. I've seen the book; I know I'm in the book. I would hope given they are making two films of it, all of my bits will make it in the movie. I wish they'd make 10 films out of it, are you kidding? First of all, here I am in Chicago, I'm shooting in Rhode Island, I'm off to Morocco, I very rarely get to sleep in my own bed and take my kids to school. So one of the great things about HARRY POTTER is that I get to live in England. Apart from that, who would not want to go and do that. Just to set in the makeup chair and look to my left and see Michael Gambon, look to my right and see Maggie Smith, or sit and hang out with Gary Oldman talking magic. I keep pinching myself.
I've been asked before, do you resent the fact that you're best known for that role. What a ridiculous question. I love the work on a lot of the jobs I do, particularly that one. Why would I mind? I don't even care about being known for anything. Most think I aspire to disappear into, but with HARRY POTTER, if you tell a kid you're in it, or even their parents, they light up. You can actually give a thrill to someone just by doing nothing. For a lazy person like me, that's a real treat. [...]

[09.09.2008] THR.com berichtet über den Rechtsstreit bzgl. eines geplanten inoffiziellen "Harry Potter"-Lexikons...
A federal judge here Monday ruled in favor of "Harry Potter" author J.K. Rowling and Time Warner's Warner Bros. Entertainment in a widely watched legal case that revolved around how broadly to define fair use of copyrighted material.
After four months of deliberation, Judge Robert Patterson of the New York Southern District ruled that a planned unauthorized Potter compendium, compiled by Steven Vander Ark and set to be published by RDR Books, must not be published as it would infringe Rowling's copyright. He issued an injunction to stop the publication, arguing it used too much of Rowling's material to make for fair use.
The planned "Harry Potter Lexicon" had grown out of a Web site for Potter sleuths and fans.
Arguing that the compendium would cause Rowling irreparable harm, the judge also awarded her and Warners $6,750 in statutory damages. [...]
Rowling and Warners filed the lawsuit late last year, which led to three emotional trial days that also saw Rowling take the stand. The case put the spotlight on the balance between free speech and copyright. The author has said she plans to write her own Potter compendium in the future. [...]

[15.08.2008] Wie CS! meldet, wurde der Kinostart von "Harry Potter und der Halbblutprinz" um mehr als ein halbes Jahr verschoben !!!
Warner Bros. Pictures today announced that it has moved back the release date of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from November 21, 2008 to Summer 2009. The sixth installment of the blockbuster "Harry Potter" franchise will now open day-and-date domestically and in the major international markets on July 17, 2009. The announcement was made by Alan Horn, President and Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros.
In making the announcement, Mr. Horn stated, "Our reasons for shifting 'Half-Blood Prince' to summer are twofold: we know the summer season is an ideal window for a family tent pole release, as proven by the success of our last 'Harry Potter' film, which is the second-highest grossing film in the franchise, behind only the first installment. Additionally, like every other studio, we are still feeling the repercussions of the writers' strike, which impacted the readiness of scripts for other films - changing the competitive landscape for 2009 and offering new windows of opportunity that we wanted to take advantage of. We agreed the best strategy was to move 'Half-Blood Prince' to July, where it perfectly fills the gap for a major tent pole release for mid-summer."
Jeff Robinov, President of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, confirmed, "The release date change does not alter the production schedule for this or future 'Harry Potter' films. Post-production on 'Half-Blood Prince' was completed on time, and the studio's release plans for the two-part 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' will not be affected by this change. We know Harry Potter fans are eagerly anticipating seeing the final chapters unfold onscreen. In fact, the good news for them is that the gap will now be shortened between 'Half-Blood Prince' and the first part of 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.'"
Commenting on the release date change for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, David Heyman, the producer of all the Harry Potter films, offered, "When Jeff Robinov explained the rationale behind moving the release date of 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' to July 2009, it was immediately apparent that this offered us the potential to reach the widest possible audience. I am extremely proud of this latest film and of the work of David Yates and our incomparable cast; I believe we have developed and pushed the series further still. We are all looking forward to sharing it with Harry Potter fans around the world, even if we have to wait just a bit longer."
David Yates, the director of both Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and who will also helm "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," added, "It has been a joy to work on 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.' Dan, Rupert and Emma and all our returning young cast continue to blossom, and our new cast members bring fresh color and life to Hogwarts. Even as we put the finishing touches on this latest film, we are already beginning preparations on the final two films - we start filming in February - and I am excited to bring this remarkable series to the exciting and moving conclusion its loyal fans deserve." [...]

[26.05.2008] Wie THR.com meldet, wurde der jugendliche Darsteller des Ravenclaw-Schülers Marcus Belby am Wochenende erstochen...
A British teenage actor playing a minor role in the upcoming "Harry Potter" film was stabbed to death during a brawl in London on Saturday, police said.
Rob Knox, 18, was stabbed after he got caught up in a fight outside a bar in southwest London early Saturday, London's Metropolitan Police said in a statement.
Knox plays Ravenclaw student Marcus Belby in the upcoming film "Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince," the sixth installment of the popular series set for release in November.
Warner Bros., the studio that is producing the film, said it was shocked by the news.
Knox was one of five young men taken to various hospitals after the brawl, police said. Among them was a 21-year-old who has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.
The fight did not appear to be gang-related, police added, but it puts the number of violent teenage deaths in London at 14 so far this year.

When Warner Bros. Pictures made the big announcement that the studio was splitting up J.K. Rowling's final "Harry Potter" book into two parts, they said that "Part I" would open Holiday 2010, with "Part II" to be released in Summer 2011.
We now have an official date for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I and it's November 19, 2010. So far, it's the only movie scheduled for that date.
To be directed by David Yates ("Half-Blood Prince" and "Order of the Phoenix"), the Steve Kloves-scripted adaptation will again star Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.

[13.03.2008] Jetzt ist es offiziell: Die Verfilmung von Band 7 "Harry Potter und die Heiligtümer des Todes" kommt in 2 Teilen !!! Die LA Times meldet...
[...] Warner Bros. Pictures and the producers behind the $4.5-billion film franchise featuring the beloved boy wizard will split the seventh and final novel in the J.K. Rowling series into two films.
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I" will hit theaters in November 2010, followed by "Part II" in May 2011, a decision that is being met around the world with fans' cheers but also plenty of cynical smirks. The publishing industry is learning to live without new "Potter" releases, but Hollywood just pulled off a trick that will keep its profitable hero on his broom into the next decade. [...]
Radcliffe is now 18 and, by the final film, will have spent half of his life in the role of the scarred orphan who finds friendship and danger within the stone corridors of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Each film (following the construct of the novels) has been framed by a school year. Producer David Heyman, a key figure in the films from Day One, was reluctant to depart from that and make the last book into two movies.
"Unlike every other book, you cannot remove elements of this book," Heyman said. "You can remove scenes of Ron playing Quidditch from the fifth book, and you can remove Hermione and S.P.E.W. [Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare] and those subplots . . . but with the seventh, that can't be done." [...]
David Yates, director of the fifth and sixth films, will return and make the final two films concurrently. Screenwriter Steve Kloves also returns, and, by the completion of the franchise, he will have written seven of the eight films. [...]
Heyman said splitting "Deathly Hallows" is the right narrative formula, but the next problem is figuring out the division. As he put it: "The question will be, where do you break it? And how do you make them one but two separate and distinct stories? Do you break it with a moment of suspense or one of resolution?"
Horn said that screenwriter Kloves has already latched on to an approach that might work. [...]

[22.02.2008] SnitchSeeker.com meldet...
In an interview with Australia's Herald Sun, producer David Barron admitted that a new scene - which was not written in the sixth book - has been added for the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince film.
David explains the scene - which takes place at the Burrow - without giving too much away:
Quote:
"But this was brought in because Jo (Rowling) was able throughout the quite lengthy book to keep dropping little snippets of what was happening in the outside world - there'd be people reading newspapers and talking about how somebody's parents had been killed, or somebody had been withdrawn from school because their parents didn't think it was safe.
And we're making aware that the Muggle world is also experiencing these disasters, but thinks they are disasters rather than the work of Voldemort.
The book is peppered with those moments, but we couldn't do that quite so easily in the film.
So (the extra scene) comes in the middle of the film and it just reminds us the world is no longer a safe place. Even in what would normally be considered the safe haven of the Burrow, nobody's safe.
I think you'll like it. It's quite effective." [...]

Children's and young adult author Lois Lowry says on her official Blog that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince director David Yates will be returning to helm the seventh and last film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows:
Bad news from The Giver Movie front. David Yates, the director currently working on the next Harry Potter film, was supposed to begin The Giver film next. But he has just decided he wants to do the final Harry Potter first, thereby postponing The Giver by several years. Maybe the opening of this film could be held simultaneously with my celebration-of-life service after I succumb to old age? Or the producers will decide to get a different director. Stand by. But without holding your breath.
It hasn't been officially confirmed by Warner Bros. Pictures, which is planning a 2010 release date for the film.

Moviehole talked to ''Sweeney Todd'''s Timothy Spall who confirmed he'll be back as Peter Pettigrew in another ''Harry Potter''.
"Well I'm actually.... yes... I'm in the next one", reveals the British actor. ''And I'm also in the one at the end - I have a very big scene in that. I think they might be shooting two of them back-to-back - hard to know though, what with this writer's strike and all. They're shooting the penultimate one at the moment -which I have a brief appearance in it. I should be doing that soon.''
Spall appeared as Peter Pettigrew in ''Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire'' and ''Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban''.

[14.01.2008] Wie MailonSunday.co.uk meldet, sieht es ganz danach aus als würde HP7 als Zweiteiler veröffentlicht...
[...] Crew working on the sixth Potter film, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, have been told J.K. Rowling's seventh novel, Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, will be released in two halves.
For film-makers Warner Bros, whose first five Potter films have made £2.5billion in box office receipts - more than any other movie series - it could mean a £500million bonus in ticket sales.
But sources insist the reason behind the two-movie plan is artistic rather than financial. [...]
A film source said: "There's so much to fit that the view is the last movie should be in two halves. There is a huge battle when Harry, played by Daniel Radcliffe, takes on Voldemort that needs to be done really well."
And Ms Rowling points out on her website: "It is simply impossible to incorporate every storyline into a film under four hours long."
At Warner Bros, who are rumoured to be thinking of Oscars and a big-name director such as Steven Spielberg for the final film, a spokesman said:
"People are discussing all possibilities."

[17.11.2007] CS! meldet, dass das HP6-Casting beendet ist...
Casting has been completed on the much-anticipated sixth installment of the Warner Bros. Pictures "Harry Potter" film franchise, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. [...]
David Yates, who directed this year's summer blockbuster Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, returns to direct Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. David Heyman, the producer of all of the "Harry Potter" films, is producing the film, together with David Barron. Screenwriter Steve Kloves, who scripted the first four installments of the film franchise, is adapting the screenplay based on the book by J.K. Rowling.
David Heyman said, "I am really excited that David Yates and all our cast are back for the sixth film and welcome some wonderful new additions to our ensemble. We all share a commitment to Jo Rowling and to Harry Potter fans around the world to keep making these films the best they can be and, as we head into the final installments, I can promise that this level of commitment will not waver."
Once again heading the cast, Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson are reprising their roles as young wizards Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, who are facing new challenges and dangers in the wake of Lord Voldemort's return. They will be reunited with returning "Harry Potter" cast members, including Helena Bonham Carter, David Bradley, Robbie Coltrane, Warwick Davis, Tom Felton, Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Natalia Tena, Julie Walters and David Thewlis, as well as Evanna Lynch, Matthew Lewis and Bonnie Wright.
Two award-winning actors are joining the film's all-star cast in their first "Harry Potter" film. Academy Award winner Jim Broadbent (Iris, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe) has been set to play Potions Professor Horace Slughorn, who gives Harry an old Potions textbook that had once belonged to the Half-Blood Prince, which proves invaluable to the young wizard. Award-winning actress Helen McCrory (Becoming Jane, The Queen) will play Narcissa Malfoy, mother to Draco Malfoy and sister to the evil Bellatrix Lestrange.
Additionally, several young newcomers will be making their feature film debuts in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Jessie Cave has won the role of Lavender Brown, who has eyes for Ron Weasley. Nine-year-old Hero Fiennes Tiffin is playing the role of the young Tom Riddle at age 11, while 16-year-old Frank Dillane is playing the teenage Riddle, who is already on the path to becoming the evil Lord Voldemort. [...]
Two-time Oscar-nominee Bruno Delbonnel (A Very Long Engagement, Amelie) will serve as the director of photography, marking his first "Harry Potter" film. He will be joined by returning "Harry Potter" veterans, including production designer Stuart Craig, editor Mark Day, costume designer Jany Temime, creature & make-up effects designer Nick Dudman, special effects supervisor John Richardson, visual effects supervisor Tim Burke, and composer Nicholas Hooper. [...]

[11.09.2007] CS! meldet...
With the success of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Warner Bros. Pictures' "Harry Potter" films have now become, worldwide, the top-grossing motion picture franchise in history. The announcement was made today by Barry Meyer, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer and Alan Horn, President & Chief Operating Officer, Warner Bros.
The combined worldwide box office gross for the five "Harry Potter" films to date is in excess of $4.47 billion, surpassing the box office totals of all 22 James Bond films and the six "Star Wars" movies.
This impressive record comes even as Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is still going strong in theaters around the globe, and with two more highly anticipated "Harry Potter" films - Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - still in the offing.
In addition to holding the franchise box office record, all five of the "Harry Potter" films have the distinction of being among the 20 top-grossing box office hits of all time.
In making the announcement, Alan Horn said, "It would be an understatement to say we are proud of the success of the 'Harry Potter' films. We also want to congratulate all of the extraordinary actors, filmmakers and artists who have shared this remarkable cinematic journey with us."
Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. Pictures President of Domestic Distribution, said, "It is a thrill to see the 'Harry Potter' franchise reach this unparalleled mark, and, with two movies yet to come, it is amazing to think what heights the franchise could reach by the end of the decade.
Veronika Kwan-Rubinek, Warner Bros. Pictures President of International Distribution, added, "This worldwide box office record once again proves that the appeal of the 'Harry Potter' movies knows no border, no age limit, and no language barrier. Each of the five films has captured the hearts and sparked the imagination of audiences everywhere."
The next Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, will open on November 21, 2008. The seventh and final film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, is planned for a 2010 release.

[13.07.2007] Hollywoodreporter.com berichtet über die HP5-Einspielergebnisse...
Warner Bros. Pictures' "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" worked its magic at the boxoffice Wednesday.
The fifth feature in the franchise, which bowed in 4,181 theaters, took in an estimated $44.23 million at the North American boxoffice for the day, including $12 million from midnight screenings. That earned the movie the title of biggest Wednesday opening ever, trumping the previous record-holder, Sony Pictures' "Spider-Man 2," which bowed to a single-day gross of $40.4 million in 2004.
The "Phoenix" opening also bested the $40.1 million first-day gross of 2005's "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," the previous best first-day gross for any of the Potter movies, though in that case opening day was a Friday. "Phoenix" also notched the biggest IMAX opening ever, pulling in $1.9 million on 90 screens in North America.
On the international front, the movie's Wednesday bow grossed another $29.2 million from 29 countries.
There will be no cliffhanger this coming weekend. "Phoenix," which will be installed in 4,285 theaters -- Warners' widest opening ever -- is destined to dominate the frame, and no other wide release except for the R-rated "Captivity," playing in a far more limited 1,050 locations, is looking to stake out a fresh position in the marketplace.
The only question surrounding "Phoenix," as it was with last weekend's chart-topper "Transformers," is how big it will be.
With its PG-13 rating, "Phoenix," directed by David Yates and adapted for the screen by Michael Goldenberg, reflects author J.K. Rowling's book series in that its atmosphere is darker and the gathering forces of the evil Lord Voldemort (a proboscis-free Ralph Fiennes) are growing ever more threatening. So this time out, Harry might not attract some of the youngest moviegoers. On the other hand, a generation of fans have grown up along with principal actors Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson and can be counted on to continue to support the franchise.
Most of the Potter movies have opened on a Friday in November; their opening weekends have ranged from $88.3 million for "Chamber of Secrets" in 2002 to $102.6 million for "Goblet of Fire" in 2005. "Prisoner of Azkaban" in 2004 is the only previous title to launch in the summer -- it bowed to $93.7 million in June 2004, and with a final domestic gross of $249.5 million, it was the lowest-grossing film in the series in North America.
The three-day weekend number for "Phoenix" won't equal those levels because its Wednesday opening will have siphoned off some of the most rabid fans who had to see the film right away. But the film could well head into the weekend with $60 million or more and see a three-day gross that could range from $70 million-$90 million.
Warners is trying to steer expectations conservatively, but a five-day gross above $125 million appears a fait accompli, and a number in the $140 million range appears realistic. At the moment, the top five-day gross for a movie that opened on a Wednesday is "Spider-Man 2," with $152.4 million. (As it happened, that movie's fifth day of release, a Sunday, also happened to fall on the Fourth of July holiday). "Phoenix" might not hit that mark, but it surely will be looking to conjure up something close. [...]

[11.07.2007] Heute finden vielerorts Vorpremieren von "Harry Potter und der Orden des Phönix" statt... Bei AICN gibt es eine HP5-Kritik von Quint...
[...] The movie isn’t flawless. It clocks in at 2 hours and 18 minutes, making it the shortest of the series and I have to say... The shorter running time might make some non-fan parent happy, but I think the movie misses those 20 minutes and would have been better with them.
Taking the biggest hit on the lesser runtime is the last 25 minutes.
The ending felt rushed.
It was fantastically executed in all other aspects. The design of the Hall of Prophecies is amazing. The Death Eater confrontation and the ensuing duel with both Dumbledore’s Army and the Order of the Phoenix is visualized amazingly. You get more than just grown men waving sticks at each other. Once more the movie opens up. You see just what adult magic is like and how out of their element the kids are. [...]

[10.07.2007] Bei JoBlo.com gibt es eine weitere Kritik zu HP5 (7/10)...
[...] This installment is the darkest of the series. The storyline was very engaging with the character arcs and it explored their emotions which elevated the sophistication of the storyline. However, that might also be one of the reasons that I had a problem with the editing. I found they jumped around a lot and as a result, it was a little hard to follow at times. Plus, it seemed like they cut out certain scenes that would have explained other key scenarios. I’m referring to the Azkaban scene and the Severus Snape and Harry memory-shielding sequences. Other than that though, it was fun ride!
I think that Potter fans are going to love this! Like I said, with each new installment, it just gets better and better and in this particular instance, it also gets a lot darker. [...]

Ganz grosser Zauber!

[07.07.2007] Bei AICN gibt es erste Gerüchte zur HP7-Besetzung...
[...] I just watched Jonathan Ross (BBC interview show) and this time Bob Hoskins and JK Rowling were two of his guests. During his interview with Bob Hoskins, Jonathan mentioned it was weird Bob had never starred in any of the Harry Potter films. Bob then told about a previous encounter with JK Rowling, where she had promised to write a character for him. Cut to: JK Rowling who kind of cringed, clearly having forgotten that she had ever promised that. She did, however, say that there will be a new character in book 7: a older male wizard, which could be played by Bob Hoskins. This could be only useless interview prattle, but it might turn out to be an actual casting. [...]

[06.07.2007] DasManifest.com liefert eine Kritik zu HP5...

[...] I very much enjoyed the film. In this one Harry is taken for a liar (because people don’t believe Voldemort is back), Hogwarts gets a new boss (the devil in angel’s clothes Dolores Umbridge), Harry begins an army to defend him against Voldemort and there a big fight at the end between the Order of the Phoenix and the Death Eaters.
It’s nice to see that director David Yates wanted to make the shortest Potter movie because he thought "most blockbusters of this year were too long." Boy, is he right! Phoenix is a totally different movie than its predecessor. The Goblet of Fire was action packed, in Phoenix there’s a lot of talking. The real action can be found at the beginning and the end.
I very much liked the scenes with Dolores Umbridge (well played by Imelda Staunton). This evil person hides behind a mask of pink smiles and is even easier to hate than Sneep. The scenes in which the Army of Dumbledore practices magic is also fun to look at. The ending is great. Although I must confess that somehow the death of XXXXXX isn’t as dramatic as the one in the previous film.
Good points: Umbridge, the Army of Dumbledore, the grand finale. And the bad points?
In the trailer we see Harry and Cho kiss. And that’s about it. The character of Cho hardly gets any screentime (and fans of the books know why, but the moviegoer can be a little baffled). New character Luna Lovegood has a promising entrance. The movie even hints at a love affair between Harry and her, but nothing happens.
But I guess the main ‘flaw’ of this movie is that you know you have to watch more two movies before it all ends. And that’s pretty hard because you feel that the Potter story could have ended with The Order of the Phoenix . The story is set up in a way that in the finale Voldemort could have been beaten and Harry could have overcome his insecurities of making the right decisions. What should happen in the remaining movies, non-readers could ask?
I very much liked Phoenix, but I wonder if people still want to see the movie versions of book 6 and 7 when - for instance - it turns out that Harry Potter dies in the Deathly Hallows. [...]

[...] I did this lovely thing with Imelda (Staunton) and Filch, because I love Filch, just after the fireworks where she’s standing with all these broken proclamations around and her hair is smoking. It’s about to ignite and she’s just standing there, like a still life, when he comes out. He can see that her hair is about to combust and he’s not quite sure what to do, whether he should warn her or whether or not he should put her hair out. So, he just kind of starts to gently blow, to try to extinguish her hair.
It’s like a PLANES, TRAINS & AUTOMOBILES moment. It’s just a really funny little comic tableau.
You know, we all loved it in dailies and we all thought it was great and then, in the flow of the film, it just kind of fell out.
There’s another lovely scene where Trelawney is being assessed by Umbridge, a big dialogue scene. I just ended up montaging the whole thing, but they’ll both end up on the DVD extras. [...]

[...] Another question was about the actors’ feelings of potentially being killed off in the final book. Watson - "I think I’m going to make it." She couldn’t explain why she has that feeling, but she thinks Hermione’s going to survive. Grint - Said it was the last book, so why not go out with a cool death? He wasn’t opposed to it all. Radcliffe - He said he loved the idea of a conclusive ending, which would in essence mean that he thinks Harry has to die. He said if Harry died, it’d be fitting, but he also laughed and said he didn’t want there to be another publicity incident where he says something like that and the next day there are headlines saying "Daniel Racliffe wants to kill Harry Potter!" In the original draft of the screenplay for ORDER OF THE PHOENIX, they had decided to remove a character from the story. Rowling read over the screenplay and said "I wouldn’t do that if I were you," that they were free to do whatever they liked, of course, but "if you make a 7th movie you’ll have tied your hands."
Heyman wouldn’t reveal who that character was and all the Potter nerds (myself included) were debating the point afterwards. [...]

"I am doing Half-Blood Prince, and I'm doing it because I love the world, I love the characters," the BAFTA-winning director said. "I think I have more business with this world and these characters."
"I've made a kind of tonal shift with the fifth film, which I want to continue and develop into the sixth film," Yates added. "And I can see the fifth story evolving into the sixth story in a really interesting way. So I'm on a journey with this material and this world, and I'm keen to complete it." [...]

[21.03.2007] Wie CS! meldet, wird die 784-seitige US-Ausgabe von "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" auf besonders umweltfreundlichen Papier gedruckt...
Scholastic Inc. announced today that all 12 million copies of the U.S. edition of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" will be printed on paper that contains a minimum of 30% post-consumer waste (pcw) fiber. Moreover, 65% of the 16,700 tons of paper used in the U.S. first printing will be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the global standard-setter for responsible forest management. This historic commitment is the largest purchase of FSC certified paper to be used in the printing of a single book title.
In addition, the company announced that the deluxe edition of the book (100,000 copies) will be printed on text paper that is FSC certified and contains 100% post-consumer waste fiber. All jackets will be FSC certified and contain 30% post consumer waste and will be manufactured using energy generated from wind power. For future printings of all books in the Harry Potter series, Scholastic plans to use paper with a minimum content of 30% pcw, and that is FSC certified when available.
The vast amount of paper needed to print 12 million copies of the 784-page "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" makes the decision by Scholastic to invest in environmentally preferable paper a significant step in the company's ongoing commitment to responsible environmental stewardship. [...]

[20.03.2007] Steigt Emma Watson alias Hermine aus - oder nicht !?! TeenHollywood.com meldet...
[...] Movie studio Warner Bros have played down reports Harry Potter star Emma Watson is quitting the film franchise, insisting they are "extremely confident" she will continue to play Hermione Granger.
British newspaper News Of The World quoted the 16-year-old's Potter co-star Rupert Grint as saying, "Emma doesn't want to do it any more. She's tired of being known as 'that girl from Harry Potter'."
However, a spokesperson for producers Warner Bros says, "We're extremely confident that Emma will be back for films six and seven."
Filming for the sixth movie, Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince, is scheduled to begin later this year.

[13.03.2007] Bei AICN gibt es weitere Kritiken zu einer Rohfassung von "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix"...
[...] I have to say, this series keeps getting better and better with every installment! How many times do we see other big franchises (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc.) start off with a bang and then blow out like a candle? It's nice to see the opposite happen with Potter: it started off slow and tiny with Chris Columbus's so-so kiddy friendly approach and has really exploded into a series that I think will end up being far more prolific than all of those combined. Yeah that's right, I went there. I can't believe I'm saying this, but this new one makes Lord of the Rings look like a fucking cartoon. And it was only a rough cut! [...]
[...] true Potter fans will not be disappointed. There are stand outs, good and bad...Hagrids brother is meant for comic relief but I don't think it works. Umbridge is hardly bearable. The bright spots are the Weasly twins, Harrys new bad-ass-edness, his intense make out with Cho, and little Luna Lovegood.

[06.03.2007] Bei AICN gibt es eine erste Kritik zu einer Rohfassung von "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" (B+)...
[...] if you liked the last two films style, you will like this. This film is not much different from the last entries in the series. I really appreciated the depth of Harry’s character in this, they actually give Harry something to do and he deals with some interesting things in a more real and rounded way. The character of Harry Potter is actually interesting in this film which makes up for some of the few mistakes in the film. Nothing was handled poorly in the film with the exception of Hagrid’s brother and possibly Umbridge’s scenes. I know you are not supposed to like her, but my god by ½ way through the film I dreaded seeing her on screen. This is something that could be fixed with editing though, and while I think a big part of the reason Hagrid’s brother played so poorly was because the effects at this point were understandably bad, to the point where there was almost no texturing or layering and no shadowing at all. I still think the film would benefit from doing away with him altogether. While I can’t say whether or not you will hate what they’ve done if you loved the books, I can say overall it was really good and enjoyable, though not necessarily the best in the series (this could possibly change when it is finished being edited and the effects shots are completed.) I am not an avid fan of the series, and I think the subject and mediocre writing of Rowling stops it from ever being an all around amazing series, and the Order of the Phoenix neither made me hate the series nor fall head over heels in love with it, but it was really good. This follows The Goblet of Fire making it the second best of the Potter films, which is saying quite a bit. [...]

I am pleased to inform you that it has been confirmed for us by Dan's Publicist that Dan has, in fact, signed on for the last two Harry Potter films. Dan will begin filming in September on Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. He has also signed on to return and reprise his role as Harry in the very last film, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This will "mark a place" in history for Dan and fulfill his wishes as he stated more than three years ago that he would like to portray "Harry" in all of the films.
As you know, it had been speculated in the media that Dan may not return to reprise the role of Harry after it had been published by several media outlets that Warner Bros. were upset with Dan's latest career choice in EQUUS. Warner Brothers quickly put that speculation to rest, and published an official press release confirming they were completely supportive of Dan's projects. [...]

In a Newsweek interview with Oscar-winning art director Stuart Craig, who has designed all five "Harry Potter" movies, he mentions that work has begun on Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince:
Craig is now designing sets for the sixth film, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," including the astronomy tower where a beloved character will plummet to his death. "It has to be impressive and beautiful and poignant," Craig says. "So I'm looking forward to doing that." He's also anxious to get his hands on J. K. Rowling's seventh, and final, book in the series, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," due in stores July 21, one week after "Phoenix" hits screens. "I can't wait," he says. "We need to know which sets to retain for the last film."
The fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, opens July 13. Warner Bros. is eyeing a November 21, 2008 release for "Half-Blood Prince."

[13.01.2007] SciFi.com meldet...
Jason Isaacs, who plays Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film franchise, told SCI FI Wire that he'll have a lot more to do in the upcoming fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, including (spoiler!) a wand-to-wand fight with Sirius Black (Gary Oldman). "I had virtually nothing to do in number four," Isaacs said in an interview at the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif., where he was promoting his upcoming BBC America miniseries The State Within. "In fact, when there's nothing to do like that, and they say, 'Do you want to come in for a couple of weeks?' you go, 'Well, I'm busy. Oh, God. All right.' Because the thought that somebody else might wear my wig is just too painful. But I have a little bit more to do in this."
Isaacs' character is the sinister father of Harry Potter's rival at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Draco Malfoy. In the fifth book, the elder Malfoy is revealed as a Death Eater, one of the followers of the evil Lord Voldemort.
Isaacs said that the fifth film will include a harrowing showdown between his character and Harry's godfather, Sirius Black. "I get to have a wand battle with Gary Oldman, possibly my favorite actor in the universe," Isaacs said. "We get to play around like two 10-year-olds. And with kind of unlimited sci-fi imagination. It's fun. We just go, 'Well, how about if I ... .' And anything you finish that sentence with, they go, 'Yeah, OK. You can do that.' So it was magnificent."
The character does not appear in the sixth book, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, but Isaacs said he recently had an opportunity to meet author J.K. Rowling and appealed to her to include him in the seventh and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, due this year, possibly July. "I fell to my knees and begged," he joked. "It didn't do any good. I'm sure she doesn't need plot ideas from me. But I made my point. We'll see. Like everybody else, I'm holding my breath to July to see what's in there. I just want to bust out of prison, that's all. I don't want to stay in Azkaban most of my life."

It’s probably a little more emotional than the others; it’s a little more grown up, inevitably because of the story.

TVGuide.com: Where do you stand with the next Potter film, Order of the Phoenix? [Isaacs plays Lucius Malfoy, the father of Harry's archrival, Draco.]
Isaacs:
I'm shooting [State Within in Canada] all of next month, and then I go home, unpack, get the mothballs off the wig, stick it on and start waving my wand about.
TVGuide.com: A Potterphile pal of mine says fans are anxious to see how Order of the Phoenix handles the Battle of the Ministry, a "beyond huge" moment, I am told, in Potter lore.
Isaacs:
I am, too. This is all as entertaining for me as it is for many of the fans. I turn up and they go, "OK, you materialize from here and you fly in over here, and then you point at this and it's going to explode...." I stand there with my jaw dropped. When I did [Chamber of Secrets], they said, "OK, there's going to be a little blue guy [Dobby the House Elf] walking next to you and then he's going to jump up to here...." [Laughs] On the first day of the first one I did, the first shot I had to do was storming out of a room, leaving the lovely Richard Harris (the original Dumbledore) and Daniel [Radcliffe, Harry]. [Director] Chris Columbus shouted, "OK, and then shut the door on your way out." I said, "Do I have to shut the door? [12.06.2006] CS! berichtet über mögliche HP5-Dreharbeiten in Italien...
[...] An Italian newspaper reports this morning that crew and production team members from Order of the Phoenix have been visiting a series of small medieval towns in the Savona area (near Genoa), with a view to shooting part of the movie in Italy. I don't know how reliable this is, given they're not supposed to film outside the UK... Could it be a second-unit crew? The mayor of Balestrino (one of the small towns) says people from WB have "surveyed" the locations, but are yet to get in touch with the local administration. But they said they loved the atmosphere: this part of Italy offers breathtaking landscapes, what with both the Tirreno sea and the Alps being close by. There's also a centuries-old sanctuary to the Virgin Mary, which would make striking background scenery...
The Mayor also says WB asked him to postpone any plans of renovation and repair to the ancient buildings - apparently, they don't want building sites and scaffoldings in the movie... The fact they could come in Italy to film something is important majorly because no HP movie has been filmed outside UK as I remember (maybe I'm wrong).
You can find a scan of the article, complete with a picture of the Castle of Balestrino, where most of the filming would take place, on our website. [...]

Film cameras have arrived in the West Highlands to shoot breathtaking sequences for the latest Harry Potter blockbuster.
Scenes for Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the fifth in the epic series, are being shot in Glenfinnan, Glencoe and Glen Etive.
And the first of the action saw a Harry Potter double on location at Glenfinnan, in front of Bonnie Prince Charlie's Monument, skimming flat stones across Loch Shiel. Film crews in boats recorded the action, as excited tourists visiting the monument looked on eagerly.
Local man Donald MacLean who was watching from the loch shore, said: "Once Harry's double got the hang of it he was able to send the stones quite a long way." Glenfinnan will figure prominently in Phoenix, with the famous train the Hogwart's Express crossing its famous railway viaduct.
Meanwhile, in Glencoe this week, computer-aided filming from a helicopter has brought a new dimension to Hagrid's (Robbie Coltrane's) Hut in Clachaig Gully . Earlier, the movie makers succeeded in getting snow scenes at Glen Etive.

[26.05.2006] Bei CS! gibt es Neuigkeiten zur HP5-Besetzung und zu Band 7...
CBBC Newsround reports that Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange, who was to be played by Helen McCrory in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, will now be played Helena Bonham Carter. McCrory is expecting a baby and would be heavily pregnant when her scenes in the Ministry of Magic were filmed.
Meanwhile, the role of replacement Care of Magical Creatures teacher Professor Grubbly-Plank has gone to Apple Brook.
The casting of the young Marauders has also been completed. Young Sirius will be played by James Walters, Young Lupin by James Utechin and Young Snape will be played by Alec Hopkins.
Actor Jason Piper has also been cast in the part of the Bane the Centaur.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, directed by David Yates, is scheduled for a July 13, 2007 release.
In related news, Bloomsbury publishing director Liz Calder tells Daily India she expects that the seventh and last "Harry Potter" book will hit shelves in 2007 as well.
"One more 'Harry Potter' only but she (Rowling) said from the beginning that she would write seven. So she would not write another one after this. But Rowling would write other books for us," said Calder. "The next 'Harry Potter' book is likely to come out in 2007. I hope so."

[...] "Gary Oldman is now set to play Sirius Black in the Order of the Phoenix. A deal was concluded this morning," his long-time manager, Doug Urbanski, said.
"I'm so relieved and happy," he added. "I can't put my mind in the place of the producers, but I would've thought that when they read the book, a call to us would've been very high on their list. Obviously, the character of Sirius Black is key."
Urbanski said he was baffled by the months-long silence from Warner Bros. There were other jobs offered to Oldman, and he was very close to taking one. "Since they had no option for Gary on this film, he was a free agent. Last week, we told them that Gary had another movie, and it was just a question of doing a deal," he said.
"It's a wonderful role," Urbanski continued. "Gary read the script last night, and he read part of it to me on the phone this morning. The end of the story is: Gary's in it. It's a terrific script, and he's so happy to be back."
