In preparation for the 23rd James Bond movie Skyfall (opening November 9th) and this year's 50th Anniversary of 007 in movies, 007.com has been relaunched with a countdown clock to the new movie and an introduction by producer Michael G. Wilson that shows a bit of behind-the-scenes footage. [...]
In related news, Ralph Fiennes talked about his role in the film to the Sunday Mail and said that he was only allowed "to say that I'm a government agent." [...]

People.co.uk meldet... JAMES BOND actor Daniel Craig has been offered a multi-million pound deal to become the longest serving 007 of all time.
It would see Craig, 43, star in EIGHT of the spy flicks - one more than Roger Moore, whose seven appearances spanned 12 years.
Legendary Bond producer Michael G Wilson said: "Daniel’s been a terrific Bond, a superb actor and a terrific man. The fans love him and I don’t think there’s a better actor to play the part."
Chester-born Craig, below, is currently shooting Skyfall, his third Bond film. And in an exclusive interview with The People, Wilson told how he would love him to do five more.
He said: "It’s certainly something we’ll be discussing with him once we finish shooting Skyfall.
"Filming has gone very well so far and I’d love Daniel to surpass Roger’s record and do eight pictures. Daniel’s been an absolute pleasure to be around because he takes the role so seriously. There’s really no one more passionate about making these films work than him - he’s a film maker’s dream. [...]
Although Wilson did not reveal financial details, it is thought that any future appearances would each earn Craig more than the £8million he is reportedly being paid for Skyfall.
Casino Royale, his Bond debut movie, took over £300million at the box office to become the most profitable 007 film in history. Wilson, whose stepfather Cubby Broccoli started the film franchise in 1962, said fans were in for a treat with Craig’s appearance in Skyfall - comparing it to the finest work of iconic Bond Connery who made six official Bond films.
The 69-year-old New Yorker said: "The director Sam Mendes and Daniel are taking it back to a 60s feel - more Sean. I think that’s what the fans wanted. There’s a magical Goldfinger feel surrounding it all. It’s all very exciting. I can’t wait for people to see the movie because I think we’re making a very special Bond." [...]

The Ides of March co-star Jeffrey Wright has played CIA agent Felix Leiter in the last two James Bond movies--Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace--opposite Daniel Craig, but it is not looking likely that the character will be back for Sam Mendes' James Bond 23.
Wright told ComingSoon.net at the Toronto International Film Festival today that he hasn't gotten the call to return. With filming starting soon for a November 9, 2012 release, we assume the production would have been in touch with him already.
While the character may not appear on screen in the new 007 movie, Wright did tell us that there's a possibility that Felix Leiter may be on the periphery and mentioned in the film.
That's the current status, but with still over a year to go before the movie comes out, things could always change.

CS! berichtet über die anstehenden Dreharbeiten in Indien... Last week, news broke that the still-untitled James Bond 23 was eyeing a potential action sequence to be shot in India. The same article posited that the sequence might be moved to South Africa instead, but an update today from the Deccan Chronicle would seem to confirm the former and suggest that the Sam Mendes film will have an extended India-based presence.
The country's Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry has approved the production, "for shooting in Sarojini Nagar Market, Daryaganj street and Ansari Road in the national capital."
No plot details for the franchise sequel are yet available, but Daniel Craig will return as 007 and Judi Dench as M along with roles for Ralph Fiennes, Naomi Harris and Javier Bardem.
Production is expected to begin shortly, targeting a November 9, 2012 release.

It's normally wise not to trust rumors when it comes to the casting of "the new Bond girl," especially when it comes from a British tabloid like the News of the World, but it looks like actress Naomie Harris, who first wowed audiences in Danny Boyle's 28 Days Later before joining the "Pirates of the Caribbean," is being considered to star in Sam Mendes' as yet untitled Bond 23.
Harris will play Daniel Craig's "sexy sidekick" according to the story and other than the returning Dame Judi Dench as M, she would be the first female casting for the movie, which is set to start filming in September for a November 9, 2012 release.
With so many actresses' names being bandied about whenever there's a new Bond film, we would be dubious if not for other news outlets like EW and Indiewire confirming through their own sources.
Anyway, Harris is "in talks" as they say yet there's still no confirmation on whether either Ralph Fiennes or Javier Bardem, who have both been mentioned as possible villains, will be coming on board. Since filming doesn't begin for three months, we probably can expect a lot more names thrown around, but Harris would certainly be an interesting way to go.

DailyMail.co.uk meldet... Ralph Fiennes is being lined up as one of the stars of the next James Bond movie.
I can reveal that his Hollywood representatives are in discussions with the producers and director Sam Mendes about a role in the film that so far is known only as James Bond 23.
Mendes, who will direct Daniel Craig as Bond and Judi Dench as M, has spoken to Fiennes about taking on what has been described to me as ‘a darkly complex’ role.
Fiennes is not interested in the usual run-of-the-mill action picture, but he was intrigued when he was told of Mendes’s ‘revolutionary’ plans for Bond 23.
‘It’s the first of a new generation of Bond films, and the ideas Mendes has push the film into darker territory where the characters are modern, mature and challenging,’ a film executive in Los Angeles connected to the production told me.
At the moment, the situation with Fiennes is purely at the discussion stage.
I was told Fiennes was approached because ‘the part is one of extreme complexity and only an actor of great ability and dexterity can take it on - and Ralph’s name is top of our list’.
From what I can gather, it’s not the same part that’s being talked about for Javier Bardem.
I’m told a couple of other major names are being courted for roles in the picture.
At one point Kevin Spacey was spoken to about doing Bond 23, but he was alreadly gearing up to play Richard III, which Mendes is directing at the Old Vic from June 18. [...]
Mendes and Fiennes are old friends, by the way. The actor led the director’s Royal Shakespeare Company production of Troilus And Cressida more than two decades ago. The play also featured Simon Russell Beale - who also may pop up in Bond 23.
Last December, I revealed that Kate Winslet will move to London while her estranged husband Mendes is directing Bond 23, bringing their children with her.

Awards Tracker sprach mit Javier Bardem über seinen möglichen Einsatz als kommender Bond-Bösewicht... Oscar nominee Javier Bardem is notoriously difficult when it comes to getting him to commit to a film, but he admits he has just been offered a part that will be hard to turn down.
Bardem recently met with director Sam Mendes to talk about playing the villain in the next James Bond film, temporarily titled "James Bond 23" and set for a Nov. 9, 2012, release.
The actor, who is Oscar-nominated for his lead work in the Spanish-language drama "Biutiful" and who won in 2008 for another villainous role in "No Country for Old Men," hasn’t said yes to Mendes -- yet. He wants to read the screenplay first. But, judging from the grin on his face when we spoke on Monday, he’s very open to the idea.
"I’m a huge fan of the James Bond saga," Bardem says. "When I was little, I went watching Mr. Connery doing James Bond with my father. Who in the world would think I’d be in one of those movies?"
The deal breaker for him, if there is one, will be, as always, if the material doesn't hold up. But Bardem says he was intrigued by what Mendes told him at their meeting.
"They’re changing the whole thing, the whole dynamic," Bardem says. "I’d be playing Bond’s nemesis, yes, but it’s not that obvious. Everything is more nuanced. It’s very intriguing."
And the escapism of the Bond franchise would seem a solid fit for an actor newly determined to leave his work behind when he goes home at night.
"But who knows? Maybe I will go back home saying, ‘I have the world in my hands,’" Bardem laughs. "Evil can be very seductive."
[31.01.2011]
Deadline meldet... [...] Javier Bardem has been offered a starring role in the upcoming James Bond film recently set for a November 9, 2012, release. Details about the character are being kept under wraps for now. But traditionally the biggest male role opposite 007 is the villain, and Bardem played a truly villainous villain in his Oscar-winning turn in No Country For Old Men two years ago. The EON Productions offer by principals Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli to Bardem to join star Daniel Craig and director Sam Mendes was made last week, at around the same time that the WME-repped Bardem received his Best Actor nomination for Biutiful and another high-profile offer of a lead role, that of gunslinger Roland Deschain in the Ron Howard-directed trilogy based on Stephen King's novel series The Dark Tower. (Amidst all this career activity, Bardem and Penelope Cruz welcomed their first son into the world.) But it should be noted that Bardem was offered the high-profile villain role in Oliver Stone's Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps and turned it down.
The other Bond #23 news is this: Deadline has learned that MGM's new leadership is trying to leverage the next Bond pic, and indeed the Bond franchise, to create more cash flow for the post-bankruptcy studio. The new brass, Spyglass Entertainment co-owners Gary Barber and Roger Birnbaum who are now the Co-Chairmen/CEOs of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Inc, are in the middle of negotiating to make an overall deal for worldwide theatrical and home entertainment distribution of not just Bond but also MGM's new product as well as its library of films. But what isn't known is that, as part of that deal, MGM wants whichever studio is chosen to distribute Bond 23 to co-finance a number of films with MGM. "That would provide MGM quick cash flow," an insider tells Deadline. "The quick cash flow allows MGM to have revenue which it hasn't had in a long time. Thereby their books look better, and therefore the possibility of getting more funds for production is increased. So expect whichever studio lands Bond to also announce it is several co-financing deals allowing MGM into other pics that are already shooting."
There's no doubt this is a shrewd move by MGM, but Deadline has learned it's not sitting well with the majors. Top execs at Sony and Fox and Paramount and Warner Bros who are all involved in the negotiations to distribute Bond "are growing increasingly frustrated with the way that the Spyglass duo are playing one studio off another -- and enjoying it," in the words of one exec involved. One studio even described its strategy to win Bond #23 was reduced recently to "pleading".
Back on September 8th, Deadline first reported that Paramount and Fox and other studios already were jockeying to distribute Bond #23. (The Hollywood Reporter recently claimed this as exclusive news a full five months later!) Here's what Deadline's Mike Fleming wrote back then: "Warner Bros, Sony Pictures Entertainment and 20th Century Fox are the obvious outlets, but don't count out Paramount. That studio has been co-financing partners with Spyglass on Star Trek and the upcoming sequel. That has grown into a strong relationship. I'm told that Paramount is making an aggressive push to win that franchise, much the way that it captured the Marvel Entertainment deal before that enterprise was sold to Disney. Obviously, Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson hold a lot of say in where the films go, but it will be a hotly contested property... Deadline was first to report the distribution outsourcing plan by the Spyglass duo, on June 29th."
Broccoli and Wilson had been in pre-production on Bond #23 for release in 2011 but then it took almost a year for MGM's future to sort itself out what with the failed auction sale of the studio, then the pre-packaged bankruptcy getting approval, and eventually Spyglass taking over studio filmmaking. Daniel Craig will be returning as the legendary British secret agent, with Sam Mendes directing a screenplay written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan. That script is being kept under wraps but the story begins after Quantum Of Solace leaves off.

DailyMail.co.uk meldet... The new James Bond movie will be a family affair for Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes.
The Oscar-winning film-maker is expected to direct Daniel Craig in the latest 007 adventure some time towards the end of next year, with the production likely to be based, as usual, at Pinewood film studios.
Kate revealed that their son Joe, seven, and Kate’s daughter Mia, ten, will move to the UK with her for the period of filming.
‘Sam is doing the next Bond film, all being well, and we’ll all be in England if that happens. It’s such a massive commitment for him and it’s not fair for him to commute backwards and forwards to New York from London. It would be impossible. The children will be there with me,’ Kate told me exclusively.
Kate and Sam separated last year but have remained on as friendly terms as possible, primarily because of the children - and because they still like each other, despite the split.
I asked Kate if there was a small role for her in the Bond picture, perhaps as a Bond girl? She laughed and shook her head and said: ‘No!’
However, she did not rule out the possibility of working with Sam again. ‘I can see us working together again - that’s the way it is.
'We’re really good friends and have very good respect for each other. I can see it, but you’d have to ask Sam what he thinks,’ Kate told me.
Sam and Bond producer Barbara Broccoli have already had many meetings over casting, and Ms Broccoli has visited the play Deathtrap twice to see Simon Russell Beale perform.
The leading actor is an old friend of Sam’s and they’re keen to work together again. [...]

In the midst of complicated financial restructuring following their bankruptcy claim, MGM has issued plans for the future of their flagship James Bond franchise, reports Bloomberg.
The next, currently-untitled, Bond film is planned for November 2012 and the article claims that sequels will follow every other year.
The 23rd entry in the franchise, the film was originally set to star returning actor Daniel Craig as Bond with Sam Mendes attached to direct. Though it is very likely that Craig will still return, there is not yet a confirmation of Mendes' continued involvement.

Wie CS! meldet, wird die Produktion von "Bond 23" wieder aufgenommen... Now that the crocked MGM Studios has got to the point where it can siwtch on the preverbial green light for Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT movies; attention has invariably turned to the possibility of reviving BOND 23. The 23rd BOND movie should, if all had gone to the original plan, be shooting around about now, helmed by former husband of Kate Winslet, Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig as James Bond alongside Rachel Weisz and Dame Judi Dench. But then, nobody was betting that MGM would go to the wall.
Producer David G Wilson, talking to IGN, says that things aren’t moving just yet.
"We’re in a holding pattern to see what happens with the studio. We support them - we’ve had a long relationship for a long time and it’s really important for us to get going again. They just have to sort out their financial issues," he said.
When pushed for an answer on the start date for the new BOND project, he did concede that "They have a plan going forward, and hopefully everything will go to plan and we hope to be in a position next year to start the film again."
He confirmed that Sam Mendes is still attached to direct and also noted that work on the script stopped when the pre-production process was brought to a halt. So it’s back to work on the script and then a shoot could still be theoretically possible for 2011...

Wie CS! meldet, wurde die Produktion von "Bond 23" auf unbestimmte Zeit verschoben... 007 producers, Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli of EON Productions, today announced they have suspended development on the next James Bond film previously scheduled for release 2011/2012.
"Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on 'Bond 23' indefinitely. We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of 'Bond 23,'" stated Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli jointly.
EON Productions have produced twenty two James Bond films since 1962. In 1995, Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli took over the 007 franchise from Albert R 'Cubby' Broccoli and are responsible for producing some of the most successful James Bond films ever, including Casino Royale and more recently Quantum of Solace. [...] Even though Forster declined an invitation to return, he expressed hope that his darker Bond vision would lay the groundwork for a lighter follow-up.
"They asked me if I wanted to," Forster told MTV News. "I’ll never say never again, but at this point I would say no."
Debunked rumors recently connected "Slumdog Millionaire" director Danny Boyle to the next sequel, along with the film’s lead actress, Freida Pinto as a possible Bond girl. Forster likes Boyle, but said whoever ends up in Bond’s next director’s chair will hinge on the script.
"It really depends on what direction they want to take it," the "Kite Runner" and "Monster’s Ball" director explained. "For me, I wanted to take it to a harder and darker place, but now that that journey I’ve gone on has succeeded, I feel like the next one can take it to a bit more humorous place again."
Both of Bond’s last outings in "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace" set the British spy up against murky areas of international protocol involving terrorism, torture and blurred lines between corporate and national interests. Forster indicated that those morally ambiguous areas needed to be looked at, but laid out hope that tackling them would set the stage for a turn in series’ future.
"I feel like next time you should take it in a lighter and more humorous way, maybe add a few more girls and a bit more sex - all that kind of stuff," he said. "I think that would be interesting." [...]
