Vorsicht SPOILER !!!
[...] the action sequences in the film will be like nothing ever seen before. In the first sequel, "The Matrix Reloaded," set for release in May 2003, the climax is a freeway chase that involves two kung fu battles in speeding vehicles-one in the back seat of a Cadillac, the other on the roof of an 18-wheeler truck. Then there's a motorcycle chase through oncoming traffic and then another shot of an agent leaping from atop a moving car onto the hood of another and, with his feet, crushing the entire thing into a pretzel. Says cinematographer Bill Pope, "It's going to make 'The Fast and the Furious' look like 'The Slow and the Dimwitted'." [...]

The last days of miniature shooting is winding down, aiming to wrap on Tuesday. While we resist the urge to say exactly what is going on here, we can say that they have been working for over eight months, and that the crew on this unit have been referring to the sets as "bigatures." Most of these sets stand dozens of feet in the air. For the past many months, on any given day, the ground shakes, as explosive charges detonate and the set is destroyed, allowing for another few seconds of footage. It is painstaking and, sometimes, dangerous work. The playback monitors, however, reveal shots with a sense of scale that dwarf any preconceived notions of vast.

[13.12.2002] Hugo Weaving erzählte SF Wire mehr über den Plot...
[...] "Essentially, there is the journey of Neo [Keanu Reeves] into a greater understanding of himself and how this whole world came about. He has a very strong journey towards truth...his own truth and the truth of the Matrix and the creation of the Matrix. Then there is another strong storyline, which is the attack of Zion by the machines, Zion being the refuge for human beings. Those are the two very strong thrusts of the films, if you like. Smith has become liberated and is in some way pretty much the same character, except that his ego is expanded, and he is in the process of replicating himself. I think the idea was to move forward. There was a 20-minute compilation that we saw about halfway through the shoot of what we'd shot, and it was quite astounding what was put together. I think in terms of breaking new ground, technically certainly, it's moving ahead. The [Wachowski brothers, who wrote and directed the movies,] always thought, 'This is what we want. We can't achieve it. It's impossible to achieve it at this stage, so let's invent something so that we can achieve it.'"

[10.12.2002] NY Daily News zitiert Hugo Weaving...
"The Matrix Reloaded" isn't due till spring, but rest assured that the villainous Agent Smith, played by Hugo Weaving, is just as nasty in the next installment of the sci-fi flick.
"He has more a rampant ego," Weaving tells us.
In preparing for the role, Weaving tells us he didn't want Agent Smith to be robotic.
"But I didn't want him to be human either. He's a balance between the two."

Both RobDougan.net and IDougan.com are reporting that musician Rob Dougan will be involved with Don Davis, composer of The Matrix, in scoring a 10-minute film that will be played before The Matrix Reloaded in theaters entitled "The Final Flight of Osiris".
The short film is part of the Animatrix project, a collection of ten short films that tell a story within the matrix world. And according to Rob, these 10 films will be releaed on a DVD between the theatrical releases of "Reloaded" and "Revolutions".
Dougan is also expected to write some tracks for the sequels, including a re-writing of 'Clubbed To Death'.
MatrixFans.net also reports that DJ Paul Oakenfold is working on tracks for the two films. His hit "Stary Eyed Suprize" is currently playing on stations nationwide and he is listed in Guinness as the worlds most sucessful D.J. of all time.

[02.10.2002] DH zitiert die "Virus-Zwillinge" Neil und Adrian Rayment... Vorsicht SPOILER !!!
[...] "They state that they are not called the "Virus Twins" but are simply known as Twin 1 and Twin 2. They state further that they are deleted programs from the Matrix, that have been given the choice to be put back into the source or become a roaming element in the program. They say that essentialy they are bad and have free reign, and their characters take full use of their special access to the Matrix - shaping the world in the image they want and sporting cool pearl-handled cutthroat razors and cut-glass British acents. Their characters are the guys who live the rock star lifestyle in that they have the best clothes, best car and live in the best places. Also Neil Rayment had a fight with Lawrence Fishburne, Adrian Rayment has a "particuarly good scrap" with Carrie-Anne Moss and then they both fight Keanu. There will be a sword fight, with two people against one (which i'm guessing will be Neo). But each person has two swords - "multi-sabres", armed with rotating blades at their hilt, clashing and sparking faster than anything yet seen, with impossible wire assisted moves as the camera moves around them in a bullet time waltz. The car chase will have multiple agents in a highway pursuit of Trinity and Morpheus, leaping out of cars as they're blown apart, driven into other speeding vehicles. The chase will employ a now mobile bullet time technique allowing the camera to circle the chase, swinging low and spirallling through exploding car and window doors".

Vorsicht SPOILER !!!
[...] The story of The Matrix Reloaded is a ticking clock that unwinds in a seventy-two-hour period, which is roughly the time Neo and the rebel leaders estimate it will take for 250,000 high-tech probes to dig their way down to Zion and waste the human populace. The script builds incredible tension, but not merely in a suspense vein. This is an emotionally shattering journey for Neo, who must decide how and if he can save Trinity from a dark fate he's been seeing in his dreams. The story ends in the cliffhanging manner of The Empire Strikes Back. [...]

[26.07.2002] SF Wire sprach mit Gina Torres über ihre Rolle...
[...] "I play a character named Cass... I'm Dozer's widow. He didn't make it in the last one. He died. He was one of the first to go."

Second film in "The Matrix" trilogy. To quash the rebellion, the matrix releases a computer virus in the form of silver men with power equal to Neo. Soon they spread and multiply so fast that the agents must ally themselves with the rebellion to try and stop them.
CountingDown meldet... Vorsicht SPOILER !!!
Third film in "The Matrix" trilogy. With Neo trapped inside the crumbling Matrix whilst the others rush to protect Zion from the machines, the end is about to be determined as to who'll survive in the human vs. machines war.

[...] One thing is for sure, one of the most impressing scene could be a carchase...from a new kind. David Ellis, the second team director who filmed this scene, confirms it: "In the past you've seen pretty good chasescenes on the highway, but you surely no one with guys "beaming" from vehicle to vehicle while they are fighting!"
Concerning the famous "bullet time" effect, you'll see no one in the Matrix Reloaded. "I was disappointed to see that it was becoming to a visual "gimmick" ", sighs John Gaeta, the specialeffects supervisor, who created new tecnologies for the film:"We are able to prolong the most complicate stunts beyond from what we could do with real takes." Roughly, when the actor is beating up 5 guys flying in the air, his digital representation will beat 20 of them up.
Joining the first part survivors (Reeves, Fishburne, Moss), the cast has been completed with more or less known faces: Jada Pinkett-Smith, Harold Perrineau, Nona Gaye (Replacing Aaliyah) and , of course,Lambert Wilson, who plays a Matrix big shot. Monica Bellucci is playing his wife. "She is Eva and Adam's apple", declares Kym Barrett, the chef costume designer." Lambert is the snake." We can hardly wait till May 2003 to understand what that mean.

[08.07.2002] The Matrix Online hat exklusive Bilder vom Set veröffentlicht... Helicopter...

According to The Daily Telegraph, The Matrix sequels production will bid farewell to Sydney this month.
The mammoth production, which has brought at least $150 million revenue to Sydney, will shoot what its producer called "the most complicated sequence ever put on film" from Sunday.
Although it is believed most of the second film in the series, The Matrix Reloaded is set mainly in a computer-generated environment, Sydney will feature more prominently in the third film, The Matrix Revolutions.
The complicated sequence, in which a helicopter with a mounted camera flies below building height through the city, takes place on the following four Sunday afternoons. The helicopter will be based in Martin Place tomorrow and will cut a path through Pitt, Bridge and George Sts, Darling Harbour and towards North Sydney from next Sunday. [...]

'David' sent in this great news for fans - it sounds like you won't have to wait long after the release of The Matrix Reloaded (May 16, 2003) to see the first DVD set. This is probably because The Matrix Revolutions (November, 2003) opens the same year just months later...
I read an article that might be of some interest. In Aus. magazine 'WHAT DVD' July 2002 edition. It tells of the DVD release of The Matrix Reloaded only 3 months after its theatre release in a 3 disc set that "includes The Matrix & The Matrix: Reloaded, but will also offer along with the usual nifty extras, the first look at The Matrix:Revolutions...with the DVD release of that film scheduled for release shortly after." In another 3 disc set.

[...] Genial production designer Owen Paterson, hunkered before a mock-Chinatown facade, reveals that the 'Matrix' world exists 600 years in the future, that 'Reloaded' takes place over one day, that a setpiece fight-sequence kicks off in the virtual Tea House in front of him, and that now there are four giant hovercrafts instead of one.
When pressed further, he merely adds, elliptically, 'I think the second film is about causality, cause and effect. Definitely.' [...]

[09.06.2002] Daily Telegraph berichtet über einen Helicopter-Stunt...

[07.06.2002] MatrixFans.net meldet...
[...] As far as France is concerned in the production of the sequels, you must have noticed that the (pretty brilliant) french actor Lambert Wilson was involved in it. He was on the show "Exclusif, ce soir," (our equivalent of "Entertainment tonight") where he said he was in the "villains" crew, he was a kind of king in the world of the Matrix who was able to program himself to speak every language, his charm coming from his love of French (he also pointed out he'd abused of the french accent... how romantic!). At last, he finally revealed Monica was his wife in the movie. [...]

[...] There haven't been two movies in the same series released in a single calendar year since Dean Martin twice played secret agent Matt Helm in The Silencers and Murderers Row. And that was 36 years ago. More recently, the second and third Back to the Future films and first two Pokémon movies came out within a year of each other, though not literally in the same year. [...]

[05.06.2002] Coming Soon! meldet...
Che Timmins, and Australian actor, will be playing "Radio Man" this role is equivelant to the role of Doser in the first Matrix.
I met him recently and explained his role, he'll be on one of the first hovercrafts created to fight in the rebellion against the machines.

"Today I got off the train at around 9:15am at St James station. The station is pretty much locked up, there was only one entrance being used. When I asked what was going on I was told that they where filming a commercia. There where a lot of security personnel and people running around everywhere. Later on at around 10:30 I returned with a friend. Lo and behold they were filming scenes for the Matrix (which movie I do not know). Trinity, Morpheus and a Chinese Guy where all present. The scene we witnessed was of an old man (dressed in dark brown clothes and with a beard - looked homeless) being chased by a group of people including Trinity, Morpheus and the Chinese Guy (cannot remember his name but he had round dark glasses on). Trinity has a lot of hair gel and is wearing a long leather coat. We were only able to stay and watch for about 10 mins before we were kicked out by security (they told us that the supervisor did not want us their, and by state rail people to either get in a train or leave)"

The stuff I saw last week made me really, really want to see these two movies. That's not the most common thought I have when visiting sets. In fact, I have to say it's goddamn rare." - Moviehole meldet derweil...
Clayton Watson talks to TV Week today about his role as 'The Kid' in "The Matrix Reloaded", and Moviehole's transcribed it. "It's a great part", Clayton enthuses." He's 16 years old and eager to be part of everything. I can't say much more than that". Watson admits it's hard juggling his day-job (TV's Always Greener) with the Matrix gig. "It's difficult. But it's just a matter of doing one thing at a time. Because I landed The Matrix sequels before Always Greener, they've written me out of about 6 episodes of Always Greener", he explains. "They've been great". Watson admits The Matrix is big, but not new territory. "Film is different because you have a lot more time to think about the scene and your motives", he says "and the scale is a lot larger, of course. But as far as the cast and crew are concerned, everyone's a professional whether they're working on film or TV". "The enormity of it (The Matrix Reloaded) is amazing. Every time you walk into one of the studios you marvel at the size and lifelike look of the sets" "I started filming in San Francisco last June, so it's a long gig!", he adds. "My Matrix character wears such distinct make-up and costume that it helps take you into the scenes. As soon as you walk onto the set you know exactly where you are. I saw (the first Matrix) twice at the cinema. I fell in love with the film - I even bought it on DVD". But how did he get the gig? "I remember my agent called and told me there was a role available in the film. I said 'Right...I have to have this role!' "The cast is amazing", raves Clayton. "We've got some good additions like Jada Pinkett Smith and Harold Perrineau Jr, and some great Australian actors like Steve Bastoni and Lachy Hulme". Watson also has a good word to say about the local crew. "It's a great opportunity for those involved. Apart from the money it brings into the local industry, Australian crews are getting a reputation for being professional and being able to handle large-scale productions".

[25.05.2002] Sci Fi Wire sprach mit Keanu Reeves und Joel Silver...
[...] his newly powerful character faces stiff challenges and continues his journey of discovery in the new films. "The brothers [writer-directors Andy and Larry Wachowski] have put up some great obstacles to test those powers, and the story kind of goes outside of the Matrix and starts to concern itself with the machines in Zion... So it’s almost [that] what he can do in the Matrix is not enough. And he’s still on the path of discovery and choice. He’s told by the Oracle that ... he has some choices that he’ll have to make that will affect the survival of the human race. And there are some hardships. And all of us are trying to save the world. And the development between Neo and Trinity [Carrie-Anne Moss] is explored, and with Morpheus [Laurence Fishburne] and [Agent] Smith [Hugo Weaving]. And so I think that’s just about it. It’s the development of the hero journey for my character, which is new challenges and choices. And it’s not so much about being born. He wanted to find out where he was. Now he knows. Or he thinks he knows." [...]

[10.04.2002] Zap2it meldet...
Warner Bros. has cast Nona Gaye the role of Zee, that Aaliyah was slated to play in "The Matrix Reloaded" before the singer-actress died last August in a plane crash. A spokeswoman confirmed Gaye's casting to Zap2it.com.
Gaye, the daughter of singer Marvin Gaye, started production on the film on Monday (April 8) and is set to continue shooting for the next several weeks. The role of Zee is introduced in "Reloaded" and will expanded in the third "Matrix" installment, "The Matrix Revolutions."
Other actresses reported to be considered for the role include singers Erykah Badu and Brandy Norwood, Stacey Dash ("Clueless"), James King ("Pearl Harbor"), Eva Mendes ("Exit Wounds") and Samantha Mumba ("The Time Machine").
"Reloaded" also stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, Matt McColm, Jada Pinkett Smith, Stuart Wells, Monica Bellucci, Lambert Wilson and Harold Perrineau Jr. Shooting for the film took place in Australia and the San Francisco Bay Area, as well as Los Angeles.

[05.04.2002] Moviehole meldet...
[...] Our man on the inside 'The Inside-Man' is involved with the Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. A lot of what's going on with these films is pretty hush-hush, But I removed the tape and got the dirt. Our spy, who will be on-set til June, tells us it's "going ok". "Shooting both films simultaneously, but 99% of the work on "Matrix Reloaded" complete", 'Inside' tells us. "Heaps to go on "Matrix Revolutions", but amazingly, only about a week behind schedule after over a year of filming! (That, by the way, is a fucking miracle and a testament to the Wachowski's. Most films of this nature would be about three/four months behind schedule", he adds. "All main cast are working away (Fishburne, Jada, Hugo, Carrie-Ann, and Keanu), and stacks of Aussies as well (Lachy Hulme, Clayton Watson, Chris Kirby, David Roberts, Robert Mammone, Anthony Wong)", our main discovers. It's believed that Lachy Hulme's part is minute but he will be starring in the video game with Jada Pinkett Smith and Anthony Wong. "It is the best role in the Matrix universe. The game is a HUGE fucking production in itself, and stars Hulme Jada, and Anthony Wong. They've finished the SFX part of it (that took four months) and now they've got 1st and 2nd unit stuff to shoot, which goes till June" says our man. Apparently there's also a certain lead actor whose not winning any fans with the rest of the cast or crew - mainly because he can't act. [...]

[01.04.2002] Bei Matrix Online gibt es einige Insider-Infos... SPOILER !!!
This is Darth Aeroplane, just thought you might want to know this: I spoke to one of the special FX guys for the Matrix 2 & 3. He'd also helped with the Matrix video game and had talked to Keanu and some other people. He wasn't able to tell me much about the plot of the sequels, but he told me some stuff about the sequels, nothing too big:
First, he told me that there were "a lot of cool things that people have never seen before." He said that in the sequels, we will learn more about the "whole story" of the Matrix. After I mentioned the White Bay Power Station, he said that they have blown up all kinds of stuff. Then, he just started talking about random parts of the movie.
He told me that there are a lot more agents, and that they can multiply. I asked him if it was true that Neo would fight 100 Agent Smith's. He said that scene was really cool, and was referred to as the "Burly Brawl" back at the studios (because of the "Burly Man" fake title). I know there was a lot of confusion as to whether Neo would fight 100 Agent Smith's or 100 copies of himself, but he confirmed that Neo would fight 100 Agent Smith's. He also mentioned that Neo and Agent Smith have a cool fight on top of a bus.
He told me there are more "squiddy things" (Sentinels) than in the first movie.
He told me there are some more ships. [...]

[09.03.2002] CountingDown meldet...
Just to show you how massive a project the Matrix is, according to Bloomberg News, the 27-acre Fox Studios lot in Sydney proved to be insufficient for filming the sequels. According to the New South Wales state government: "A lack of studio space has been the biggest brake on film- making in the state. The makers of the latest Matrix movies have had to use outside warehouses, as well as Fox Studio space, to keep to schedule." In response, the Fox Studios Australian site will add 5.2 acres.

And this time around, the stunts and special effects in 'Reloaded' are even more spectacular than the first go-around!
"We are trying to do some crazy things out here," offers Keanu. "The kung-fu sequences are more sophisticated and more challenging than the first film. Some of the wire work [allows me to] do back flips and cartwheels all in one shot." [...]

[26.02.2002] Coming Attractions weiss welche Rolle Agent Smith in den Sequels spielt... SPOILER !!!
[...] Agent Smith is now a separate entity from the Matrix and has started to multiply. The Matrix has its own agents hunting Smith. Carrie-Ann Moss: "...in every single department, we are all trying to do something better, more fantastic, and I think we are achieving that."
Keanu Reeves: "I know for me, the action aspect of it is much more complex and a little trickier than last time. Before, if I threw one kick, now I'm throwing three kicks, or four, maybe seven. The wire work, the kung fu and the fight scenes are a little more sophisticated and ambitious." [...]

The producers of The Matrix sequels are plotting a huge explosion for Sydney on Valentine's Day. They plan to create a large fireball at the White Bay power station outside the city. The films producers are believed to have submitted an application to build a set for The Matrix Reloaded at the former coal-fired power station. The plan is to explode the set, and cause a 20 metre high fireball at midnight on February 14. The explosion will last up to five seconds, and could reach a sound of 110 decibels, which is as loud as an average rock concert.

Well, we're shooting two and three and we're also shooting a video game that has movie footage in it, a video movie. So, we're doing three projects at the same time and it's hectic. [...] Niobe is just basically the female version of Morpheus, very tough, very "no bull crap." She just puts it on the table. The type of training - I've just had to do a lot of... I had to go to Oakland for four months and do four months of Kung Fu training, wire training and I have to go back in February for 5 months of filming in Australia. [...] Oh man, you have no idea what's in store for you... no idea.

"Keanu wants to do the whole fight with no breaks. He's relentless. Like Larry and Andy he wants to deliver what no one has ever seen. I look at the dailies and it's unbelievable. Cutting edge doesn't begin to describe what they're creating. [...] At the end of the first sequel there's a car chase that takes place in the matrix. It's just so beyond anything you could ever imagine because there are no laws, no rules in that computerized world."

Question: Can you tell us anything about your character in the Matrix and/or her relation to Neo (romantic, allies, enemies)?
Aaliyah: I don't even think I have a scene with him! I'm not sure, because stuff changes, but we don't interact. My boyfriend in the film flies their ship, but I don't do much with Neo. My character's motivation is her boyfriend. She's from Zion. Everything she does is based on him. She gets to be in some of the action in part 3, for her man, so it's really sweet.

"Wait till you see what we're doing... Think of a car chase inside the matrix. It's beyond anything you could ever imagine."

"Matrix 3"...
On television last night, Luke 90210 Perry commentated that he is in the running, and looks like getting a part in the third "Matrix" film (I don't recall tha name). Joel Silver apparently has a say in who gets cast. Not a bad idea though.

SPOILER !!!
[...] Visiting Zion was quite a trip. It was mostly made up of large underground sets with big stalagtites and all the folks were in gauzy outfits about 900 mostly african american extras had to be seperately fitted for sometimes quite skimpy outfits muscley guys in satin skirts, you should have seen Shaggy and Scooby! Morpheus gave a speech about the machines near the entrance to the underground city, "Citizens shouldn't forget we are here we are zion and we are not leaving!" And the crowd shouted out "hurray," then a band started to play some very pulsing rhythmic music and extras start to dance you know to rally for the troops. [...] Apparently they've created a motion capture unit capable of shooting 17 different actors at once to make for one of the most amazing action scenes I've ever seen. [...]

CC: Can you talk about your work The Matrix Reloaded and the third installment?
DD: Well, I did write some pre-score music (music which is being shot to). I actually completed that before beginning work on Jurassic Park III.
CC: Are you working on both the second and third films’ scores?
DD: I’m not actively working on them because there isn’t a lot to do other than sorting out thematic material... at least until they have a cut for me to see. That won’t occur for about a year, but I have been signed to score both of them.
CC: Will the soundtrack be a mix of your score with electronica pieces once again?
DD: Yes. Jason Bentley produced the song score for The Matrix and is also working on The Matrix 2 and 3.
CC: So it will be the same sort of blend?
DD: Well, there will be a blend, but I can’t say if it will be "the same" or not yet. I have been speaking with Jason and there may be more collaboration with me this time. This way they’ll be a bit more integration between the score and songs. The concept I’m going on at the moment is that we are going to expand upon what was done in the first Matrix. I think there may be more opportunity for more melodically thematic material in the next two films.

[...] The basis of the story is rooted in Christian mythology, keeping in touch with the Christ theme of the first film. The machines continue to attempt to penetrate Zion, but they cannot, because they are not human enough, or clever enough, or whatever, I don't know - they just can't. So they devise a way to fuck with Zion from the inside out. Since the machines outnumber the humans, the war must be fought where the humans have the advantage - The Matrix. Neo goes in and attempts to access into the program - not the Matrix itself, but the AI that control the software - but the agents have already set a trap for him. I'm not going to go into further details partially since I didn't get to finish my read, but I'll just say I'm pretty worried at this point. You ever watch Star Trek and see those episodes on the holodeck, where there are realities within realities and mindbending shit like that? The point is, where the film is going at times has already been done before. [...]
