[27.12.2011] CS! berichtet über die US-Kinocharts...
[...] Opening in IMAX theaters last weekend and grossing enough to take third place, Brad Bird's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (Paramount), starring Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Simon Pegg, expanded into 3,023 theaters nationwide on Wednesday with $8.9 million and held up that business through the weekend to end up with estimated $46.2 million over the four-day weekend and $78.6 million total after 11 days in theaters. That was lower than the three-day opening of the franchise predecessor Mission: Impossible III in May 2006, but it's already grossed more money in the same number of days pointing to a higher gross than the $133.4 million made domestically by the third installment.
About $7.4 million of that amount was brought in by the roughly 400 IMAX theaters playing the movie over the four-day weekend, bringing its cumulative IMAX gross in North America to $23 million, which is roughly 31% of the film's total domestic gross. Globally, the movie has grossed $32 million in IMAX venues in the past 11 days, although some IMAX theaters only opened the movie in the last couple days. [...]

[28.11.2010] MTV sprach mit Jeremy Renner, der nach eigener Aussage das Franchise übernehmen soll...
[...] Renner confirmed that he is indeed being groomed to take over the franchise from Tom Cruise.
In June of '09, rumors started circulating that Cruise was looking to re-launch the franchise - dormant since 2006 - with an eye toward handing the series off to a younger actor or even an ensemble. With Renner now starring in "Ghost Protocol," I asked if in fact he's been cast with that idea of taking over for Cruise.
"It's a franchise to potentially take over," he said. "I can't predict the future and what they want, but that's certainly the idea."
Renner, though, declined to say whether such a hand-off is written into the script or if it's something that would become clear in a future sequel. "I can't really go into the details of the script, because that's still evolving," he said. "It's Tom's baby. He's the engine behind the thing. What happens after that, we'll see."
The 39-year-old, so it seems, is focused simply on getting through the Dubai shoot and all those crazy stunts. Asked to name the most extreme stunt he's pulled off, Renner simply responded, "Everything."
"I haven't gotten to work too much in terms of acting stuff, but the stunts have been insane," he added. "Tom has been doing loads. He's crazy, that guy. It's unbelievable. He's fearless. He's great to watch. He inspires me to want to be better. I'm training in the gym and working out and fighting and doing everything I can to try and keep up. I'm doing hand-to-hand combat, Muay Thai and kung fu and learning how to take someone out quickly. I need to look like I know what I'm doing!"

[29.09.2010] AFP meldet...
The latest film in the Mission: Impossible series will be called "Ghost Protocol", Hollywood star Tom Cruise revealed in Dubai on Thursday.
"It's not gonna be MI 2, MI 3, MI 4, but it's gonna be Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol ... that will be the title of this film," Cruise told a news conference in the Gulf city-state.
"One of the things that I always wanted with the franchise was for it to not have a number afterwards, because I haven't made sequels of films, and I never really thought of these films as sequels," Cruise said.
"When you see each one of them, I think it's distinctive of each film-maker" who has worked on the series.
"It's a series that I love doing," the American actor said.
Paramount Pictures said the latest in the series that has grossed two billion dollars worldwide is currently shooting in Dubai, and would also be filmed in Moscow, Prague and Vancouver.
Ghost Protocol will be in theatres in December 2011, Paramount said.
"To be shooting here, it's a city I've always wanted to shoot in," Cruise said of Dubai.
The film's director, Brad Bird, said he was pleased with filming in Dubai.
"We love the fact that it's a big, new city ... It has the scale we look for in these kind of movies, because these are big movies. I think that it's almost like sets that you could never afford," said Bird.
Executive producer Jeffrey Chernov, producer Bryan Burk, actor Jeremy Renner and actress Paula Patton were also at the news conference.
The director, actors and producers were generally mum on how long shooting in the emirate would last, and where it would take place.
But Burk did say that "we will be shooting in the building you are all sitting in right now," referring to Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest tower at 828 metres (2,717 feet), where the news conference was held.
The Dubai government media office said last month that filming in the emirate would last at least three weeks. [...]
