[10.02.2010] CS! meldet...
Paramount Pictures announced today that it is making Mission: Impossible IV. The film, which will be produced by Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams (Star Trek) and Bad Robot Productions and will star Cruise, will be released Memorial Day weekend 2011.
"Tom and J.J. are great talents and we are excited to be working with them to re-launch this legendary franchise," said Paramount Pictures Chairman & CEO Brad Grey.
Screenwriters Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec are attached to write the script, from an original idea by Cruise and Abrams.
The studio, Cruise and Abrams are in now the process of identifying a director for the film. Cruise's "Mission: Impossible" franchise has grossed over 1.4 billion globally.
Mission: Impossible IV will be co-financed by David Ellison's Skydance Productions. [...]

[15.01.2010] MTV sprach mit J.J. Abrams über "Mission: Impossible 4"...
[...] "The goal would be for Tom [Cruise] to be in the film."
What he wouldn't say anything about was the story, other than admitting that there is one. "A script is being written," Abrams said. "There's an insanely long outline, it is probably longer than the script. It's going great... we're very excited and we're looking to make that movie." [...]

[10.10.2009] Collider.com sprach mit J.J. Abrams, u.a. über "Mission: Impossible 4"...

[17.09.2009] SCI FI Wire sprach mit J.J. Abrams...
[...] Any momentum on Mission: Impossible IV?
Abrams:
Yeah, we have a really cool story. It's being written right now by Andre Nemec and Josh Applebaum.
What's your ETA on when you'll see the draft?
Abrams:
We're hoping to get it soon, like by the end of the year.
Could it work out for you to direct it?
Abrams:
I'm open to anything. [...]

[07.08.2009] Variety.com meldet...
Paramount Pictures and producers Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams have officially lit the fuse on "Mission: Impossible IV," setting Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec to write the screenplay. While those scribes aren’t big feature names yet, they join a roster of writers who transitioned from Abrams TV series creations to pen the features he directs and produces through his Bad Robot banner.
Applebaum and Nemec spent four seasons with Abrams as co-exec producers of "Alias," and they will script "M:I 4" based on a story Abrams wrote with them.
While the only other commitments so far are for Cruise and Abrams to produce the film together, sources said that Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, will certainly be involved in an onscreen capacity. Pic is aimed for a 2011 release.
Applebaum and Nemec are the creators of the new ABC series "Happy Town" and previously created "October Road" and the U.S. version of "Life on Mars" for ABC.
"I’ve been looking forward to working with Josh and Andre again for years," Abrams said. "Their sense of balance between character and action is wonderful, which I know is hugely important to Tom as well. We’re off to an exciting start, so, as usual, fingers crossed." [...]

[19.06.2009] Variety.com meldet...
"Mission: Impossible IV," which once seemed truly impossible, is taking shape at Paramount.
Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams have agreed to co-produce the sequel, which is aimed at a 2011 release.
The return of Cruise to Par itself is surprising in view of the circumstances surrounding his departure in August 2006. Apparently irked by the heft of Cruise's deal, among other issues, Viacom chief Sumner Redstone abruptly terminated the 14-year relationship between the star and the studio. Cruise's then-CAA agent, Rick Nicita, termed Redstone's decision "shockingly offensive and graceless."
The rift led to Cruise becoming the chief of United Artists and taking a more active role in production decisions. Redstone, meanwhile, has sought to heal the relationship. At a recent appearance, he described the star as "a great actor and a good friend."
The "Mission" installment would augment Paramount's formidable array of sequels, which will include "Star Trek 2" and a third "Transformers."k
Work on "Mission: Impossible IV" would inevitably be delayed by the busy schedules of the participants.
Abrams will be responsible for guiding the "Star Trek" sequel, while Cruise recently committed to an untitled pic (formerly called "Wichita") for 20th Century Fox that will be directed by James Mangold and co-star Cameron Diaz.
Cruise and Denzel Washington are also awaiting a rewrite on the David Cronenberg-directed "The Matarese Circle," the MGM thriller based on the Robert Ludlum novel.

[12.06.2009] CS! meldet...
[...] Star Trek director J.J. Abrams tells TV Guide that he will be producing the fourth "Mission: Impossible" film.
"I am incredibly honored that Tom has invited me back as a producer on 'Mission: Impossible 4,'" said Abrams, who directed 2006's Mission: Impossible III, but hasn't yet committed to directing the fourth.
"Tom and I have come up with a really cool idea we are pursuing," he added. [...]

[19.03.2009] AICN meldet...
[...] Tom Cruise was on the popular SMAP SMAP program here in Japan (HERE), and when asked about the Mission Impossible franchise he revealed that he has started work on the fourth installment...he's working on the story right now.
He also commented that during his visit here he'd been thinking about how to stage a big action sequence in downtown Tokyo..dunno if he was just being polite, but sounds like a cool setting for the series, what? [...]

[19.08.2008] Die LA Times widmet sich der stagnierenden Filmkarriere von Tom Cruise...
[...] according to a Paramount executive, talk of a sequel to "Top Gun" or another "Mission Impossible" is just hoopla.
According to the executive, the studio did discuss internally making a new installment of Cruise's signature franchise, "Mission Impossible," without Cruise but backed off once it realized the extent of his contractual rights over the material, both as a producer and star.
Five years ago, it would have been unthinkable that a studio wouldn't jump at making another installment of a Cruise franchise, but he faces the reality of any actor moving into middle age. It's unclear whether he's going to reclaim his popularity or, as his "Tropic Thunder" character says in the movie, become "a white star heading toward a black hole." [...]

[20.09.2006] Bei Moviehole gibt es neue Gerüchte zu "M:I-4"...
[...] It was reported in one of the free newspapers in London yesterday that Brad Pitt is to take over from Tom Cruise in the hugely successful Mission:Impossible franchise in "M:I:IV". Apparantly Mr. Pitt and partner Mr. Grey of Plan B fame (not forgetting Angelina's stake in this somewhere people) are to take the reigns from the Cruiser's Cruise/Wagner Productions, formerly housed at Paramount, where the 'B' is at.
The London Lite paper also stated Pitt won't take Cruise's Ethan Hunt character, but a new character for "Mission: Impossible 4". [...]

[30.08.2006] Moviehole berichtet über "M:I-4"...
[...] Wagner has come out declaring that they’re still keen to make a "Mission: Impossible 4", even if Paramount isn’t involved. "If it's the right script, why not?."
Cruise is apparently hot for another chapter, and has been toying with the idea of setting it in Japan. Maybe they can dust off the Fincher script?
