"Predator" (1987) ist ein Trophäenjäger aus dem All und er suchte sich mit Arnold Schwarzenegger (u.a. "Terminator", "Conan") nicht gerade den leichtesten Gegner aus... ;-)

"Predator 2" (1990) - ganz ohne Arnie - ist nicht minder spannend...
Los Angeles 1997: Der Krieg zwischen Drogenbanden und der Polizei sprengt inzwischen alle Grenzen. Bei einem Einsatz entdeckt Lt. Harrigan (Danny Glover, u.a.

April 1991 an AIDS...

[...] "Let me tell you, I was so much of a fan that I stood in line when I was 14 and I had the poster on my wall. I was a huge fan," he responded enthusiastically, so we wondered how hard it was going to be not to be so faithful to the original that he's not able to bring any of his own vision to it. "Again, it was a challenge in finding a balance. I think when we cast Adrian, there were a lot of people going, 'What?' but at the same time, if we cast a Vin Diesel in that role or if we cast anyone who is Arnold-esque, we would have been attacked for doing that. So we decided early on to go in a very different direction as far as the casting process, but it turned out fantastic. He plays a mercenary in the film and if you look at the guys in Iraq and Afghanistan today, they're not 'yolked-out' Schwarzenegger-looking guys. They're all very wiry and thin guys, and I think it's going to play well."
He did get a laugh when we asked him directly whether Arnold himself might make an appearance, maybe because we prefaced it by mentioning McG's own dilemma with how to answer that incessant question while promoting Terminator Salvation. Wisely, Antal remained coy, only saying, "Time will tell. We'll see, but we are trying to stay with the original as far as the monster and the atmosphere and the tone of the film, but we are trying to do something new and contemporary and feels fresh." killer first day of Predators.

[07.10.2009] Heat Vision meldet...
[...] Adrien Brody is boarding to star in "Robert Rodriguez's Predators," Fox’s reboot of the sci-fi franchise being directed by Nimrod Antal. Rodriguez is producing with Elizabeth Avellan.
Topher Grace is in negotiations to join the action-adventure movie, to which Alice Braga ("I Am Legend"), Mahershalalhashbaz Ali ("The 4400"), Walt Goggins ("The Shield"), Rodriguez mainstay Danny Trejo and UFC fighter Oleg Taktarov have also been cast.
Written by Rodriguez, Alex Litvak and Michael Finch, the script follows a group of elite warrior-types who are being hunted by members of a race of merciless alien trackers called Predators.
Brody is a man who ends up inheriting the mantle of leader and is known as a hunter of men. Grace would play an accountant-type whose unassuming facade masks a dangerous serial killer.
Braga is the tough female killer. Ali is a man not afraid to die, Goggins is the loose canon of the group and Taktarov is a former Russian special ops agent.
Trejo, already cast, is Cuchillo, a hardened warrior with twin uzis strapped to his back.
Shooting begins next month in Hawaii then moves to moves to Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin. [...]

Unfortunately, we do not have any information yet on which role he might be playing, but we'll update the story as we receive confirmation. Either way, we can probably except there to be a lot more cast announced for the anticipated reboot in the coming weeks. [...]

[25.09.2009] Moviehole sprach mit Howard Berger von der Effektschmiede KNB...
[...] Berger, who won an Oscar for his work on the first "Chronicles of Narnia" film (and whose latest film, "Surrogates", opens this week), says "we wanted to have the Predator look as it did in the original film. We went back and looked at the original. I actually worked in the shop with Stan Winston on the first film. It was great to be able to go back to the series having not been involved in any of the sequels, and it was also great to be able to make sure we built them as Stan Winston did." While Berger supervises "Dawn Treader" in Queensland, Nicotero perfects the ‘Predators’ back home in Los Angeles.
"They look really fantastic. There's a whole bunch of cool [Predator's] in the film, and everyone's going to be very happy that we've been very faithful to the Stan Winston designs. It's out next year. It's shooting very soon."

[...] Scouts for 20th Century Fox’s $40-million creature feature are back on the Big Island for their third week of scouting Hawaii most of it where a lot of jungles have been looked at. The production would film for 18 days with an October start if the Hawaii portion is a go. That decision is expected to be made very soon... Some Hawaii production execs are being contacted about availability...
The creature feature is directed by Nimród Antal. Filming begins Sept. 28th at producer Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in Austin TX... Produced by Rodriguez, the new film will involve a very intense group of people stranded on a Predator planet discovering unspeakable horrors that are not always from outside their group. The sci-fi action-adventure is written by Alex Litvak and Michael Finch... Predators is slated to open summer 2010 [...]

[16.08.2009] STYD meldet...
[...] who will be realizing the Predators this time around? Greg Nicotero and Howard Berger's KNB FX. This is the first time the shop has tackled the otherworldly hunters, however, individually, Nicotero worked on the '87 film, as did Berger and KNB's Shannon Shea.
"It is going to be KILLER," Nicotero told me earlier this afternoon when I inquired about Predators. Of course, KNB and Robert Rodriguez - who is producing the latest film - have had a long history together collaborating on From Dusk Till Dawn and Sin City, to name two titles.
KNB is currently at work on Priest for Screen Gems as well.

[15.08.2009] Production Weekly meldet via Twitter...
Nimrod Antal is scheduled to being filming on Fox's reboot of "Predators," on Sept 28th at Robert Rodriguez's Troublemaker Studios in Austin

[02.07.2009] Robert Rodriguez hat gegenüber AICN bestätigt, dass Nimród Antal (u.a. "Armored", "Vacancy") Regie bei "Predators" führen wird...
[...] on a personal level I found him to be an outstanding presence, a great communicator full of ideas, and upon meeting him you can immediately understand how he is able to wrangle cast and crew and get the best out of everyone. I always loved Kontroll, where he proved himself to be a very resourceful and original filmmaker. When I saw Armored, I could tell he's also great with action and has a keen eye for casting. He reminded me of Quentin with how he was able to work with a group of very strong, singular actor talents and make it look effortless. I know he'll be able to get the most out of what we want to be an outstanding cast. We really want to go with a character driven action movie, because that's what we all remember about the original Predator, and we want to take it even further with this.
Your original PREDATORS treatment back in the day was a very large scale production. At what scale are we looking at for this movie? How big is this going to be?
The original PREDATORS script was large scale, because as a writer I didn't have to worry about how it would be made. I didn't care it was 1994, and that the majority of the movie wasn't even technically possible at the time. As far as I was concerned, that was going to be the filmmakers job. I just had to write a cool script.
Well, now it's come back to haunt me, but good news is that a lot of this (and a hell of a lot more) is doable today. We'll have to be cutting edge to pull it off, but that's what makes it exciting for us, and will be the challenge in bringing this to screaming life. [...]
Give us a quick rundown on the planned story we're going to be getting, because PREDATORS - as you told me the first time we talked about this project, was always meant to be what ALIENS was to ALIEN. How do you and Antal beat McTiernan and Arnold?
I can't go too much into the story right now, because we're still writing. But it still involves a very intense group of people stranded on a Predator planet discovering unspeakable horrors (that are not always from outside their group). So like the original movie, the title does have a double meaning. Aliens was a different take on the Alien idea, and an original movie in it's own right, and that's what we want to do with this.
As to how this movie will be viewed, one of the guys at Fox told me "No one is ever going to talk about AVP again after this film, I will stake my life on it." [...]

[...] I'm in real close contact with Robert Rodriguez on this project and I can tell you with ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY that Neil Marshall is one of about 7 names that Robert is looking at and meeting with right now. Neil wants this gig badly, but then so do the other folks. I contacted Robert about this story and his update was that he's looking at various works by the guys in the running, and he'll be seeing Neil's CENTURION very soon (lucky bastard) - but at this point - Neil and the other candidates are collectively holding their breaths to see who comes out the other end.
Robert doesn't want the LIST of names out there at this point, but like so many rumors hitting the net at this juncture - it seems a lot of folks that hear something and leap to report before there is really anything solid.
Neil's CLOSE TALKS are the same as all the others. He has met with Robert. Robert did like him. Robert is looking forward to seeing CENTURION. But he has similar feelings about the other candidates. Let's all just be patient and see how it pans out.

[...] Online news is amazing, much more exciting than real life!
There are so many sites saying that I'm actively pursuing Arnold!
Feels like all i have to do is sit here, and let the websites do the work!
Actually, what probably happened is someone conjured that up because of my 1994 draft, that had Dutch as a main character. And then it probably just built from there.
But no, we're still writing a new script, and although I know Arnold personally and he's the coolest person on the planet, I have not contacted him about this at all at this time.
As promised, I'll keep you posted on such developments since Predator is such a fan favorite.
But then again, he could very well have told someone he'd be into it. Who knows?
Personally, I haven't heard anything. But it's still early in the day. [...]

[08.06.2009] Moviehole meldet...
[...] got onto someone in-the-know this morning, who confirmed that Rodriguez is indeed courting Schwarzenegger for the movie - but so far it’s a one-way conversation.
"Robert’s camp has just reached out to Arnie’s [camp]", we were informed. "But they haven’t had a response yet".
Now that doesn’t mean Arnie’s blocking Rodriguez’s calls, nor does it mean he’s waiting for a bag of cash to be transferred to a locker at Union station, it simply means the guy is busy (being Governor) and hasn’t had a chance to get back to Rodriguez yet. Obviously, with the start date coming up pretty quickly on the project, they’re going to want an answer sooner rather than later but there’s still time for Arnie to agree to lend his, er, canons to the movie.
"They’ve written a role for him" a second source later told us via email. ‘’Rodriguez is as against the idea of a straight-up remake as much as anyone - which is why they’re considering this an official sequel to John McTiernan’s film. Like Terminator, they know Schwarzenegger’s a vital ingredient of the franchise. Ideally, Arnold will see it that way too. Ball is in his court now".
Schwarzenegger would reprise his role as Major Alan "Dutch" Schaefer, the canon-armed Special Forces leader who took on the "ugly mother-fucker" in the Jungle back in the Reagan-era.
Dutch won’t be the main character in the film, but he will play a part (again, if Schwarzenegger agrees) in the film. I’m guessing it’d be a day or two’s work for the Oak at best.
Interestingly enough, Schwarzenegger was asked to cameo as Dutch in Stephen Hopkins’ poorly-received "Predator 2" (1990) but knocked back the offer (the Dutch character was rewritten; Gary Busey took his place). That was more to do with script issues than anything else I believe - something that likely won’t be an issue this time around.
"The script is terrific... I hear. It’s partly the old Predators script Rodriguez did, but mostly new stuff by [Alex] Litvak. And it’s violent - like the original. Everybody here at [name removed] has pointed out how much better it is than [Paul W.S] Anderson’s abomination. Doesn't sound like there's any reason to worry".
I actually like Rodriguez's first draft of "Predators" (though I do understand why much of it has been rewritten) - it's big and expansive; packed with action. Glad they're actually going down that route, rather than rebooting the first film. [...]

[27.04.2009] Bei AICN beantwortet Robert Rodriguez Fragen zu "Predators"...
1. Quite some time ago you created a treatment called PREDATORS, which was about Arnold's characters being shipped to the Predator home world where they were put into an alien menagerie.
Now that you're producing a PREDATOR movie, is there any hope that it'll be called PREDATORS and be based upon your original treatment? And if not, what direction are you taking this and does it have a title?
Robert Rodriguez:
Way back before I did Desperado, I had taken a writing assignment for a sequel to Predator.
With a nod toward Cameron's ALIENS I decided to call it PREDATORS. I set it on a jungle-like Predator planet. It was just a writing assignment, so I didn't have to worry about budget constraints or how the movie would actually get made with the technology that existed back then, so I just wrote any cool thing I could come up with.
Fast forward 15 years to when I got a call from Alex Young over at Fox, who had been digging around and found my original treatment. He was eager to get it made and re-invent the Predator franchise using the treatment as a guide. So he contacted me to see if I'd be interested in being involved, and it seemed like the perfect project for us over at Troublemaker Studios.
I've built up an amazing team over the years at Troublemaker, and they're all huge PREDATOR fans. (I know this because Predator model kits litter our offices and workstations.) So the next stage is finding a writer and director to come in and work with us to bring it to life. Whether or not it will ultimately be based on the treatment or not is still unknown at this time.
2. The original John McTiernan PREDATOR is a brilliant action/ science fiction film. What is it that you're hoping to bring to fans of that film that will revive the franchise?
RR:
PREDATOR is a masterpiece of the action/science fiction genre. Its been borrowed from so much in other movies and even video games (that will now probably be turned into movies themselves) that I liked the idea that we could have PREDATORS made relatively quickly. What I'd like to do with it is expand on ideas I dreamt up back in the original treatment, that had really expanded on the universe both the Predators and other species live in. We'd create new otherworldly characters while not taking away from the draw our main Predator has. I think another reason I called it Predators was to mark it as a project that should be taken seriously by a filmmaker to make a worthy follow up to a classic, much in the way Cameron made Aliens a compelling work on its own, following Ridley Scott's Alien.
Alex is passionate about re-inventing the series to a new and exciting level, and as a fan myself I'm all for it.
3. Will you work to get the Governor involved somehow in your new PREDATOR production?
RR:
This is still the early stages, so we haven't approached him about taking part. As things develop further, we'll keep you posted, because this is obviously a fan favorite.
4. Are you going to make this a badass R-rated Predator movie?
RR:
We haven't discussed rating yet, but my treatment was very "R."
5. What is coming up next for you as director and is there any chance that you'd take the reins on PREDATORS?
RR:
The idea is that I'd produce PREDATORS here at Troublemaker Studios, so that I can feel free to walk to the PREDATORS soundstage, pick up a camera and co-shoot the coolest scenes.
Directing wise, next up will be NERVERACKER for the Weinstein Company.
