MTV sprach mit Harvey Weinstein...
[...] "I'm sure [director Wes Craven is] going to do a sequel, I'm sure he's going to do a sequel," Weinstein insisted when we spoke with him at the Cannes Film Festival last week, stressing that while "Scream 4" didn't perform fantastically in the United States, it's doing quite well overseas.
"Foreign [sales] are so strong that we'll do over $100 million worldwide," said Weinstein. "It's at $90 now, with about five or six major countries to go and a lot of small ones. We'll probably do $110 million."
"I wish it would have been better domestically," he confessed, "But it's not the worst thing in the world that's ever happened."
For what it's worth, Craven himself has expressed his desire to make two more "Scream" movies, which would work alongside "Scream 4" to create a brand new trilogy.
"When I had my first conversation with [screenwriter Kevin Williamson] about this whole thing, he had an idea for a new trilogy," he told us last month. "And I think that was Bob Weinstein's thing also about waiting so long - if there were to be a 'Scream 4,' there would also probably be a 'Scream 5' and a 'Scream 6' sooner or later so we could construct a new trilogy that kind of stood on its own."

Despite the rumors, Scream 4 is not being toned down for the teen crowd.
The MPAA has weighed in on the fourth chapter and granted it an R "for strong bloody violence, language and some teen drinking."
Speculation began early as to whether or not the sequel would get a PG-13 or an R - not sure why, as every film to date has received the latter.
The first film was repeatedly submitted to the MPAA to receive an R after the ratings board gave it an NC-17. Parts two and three easily scored their rating once Craven and the MPAA got into a groove.

STYD sprach mit David Arquette über "Scream 4" und mögliche Sequels... SPOILER !!!
[...] "It's an exciting movie," Arquette told us during the interview. "'Scream 4' I think is going to be the best of the sequels by far. It's got a really amazing beginning, and throughout it it's great and then the ending is pretty cool, too." [...]
"There is definitely self-referential humor," he said in brief when asked how much of the last ten years of horror will be incorporated before telling us how his character has changed. "I play Sheriff Riley, not Deputy Dewey anymore, but I still lack the respect from the people that I feel like I deserve, but it's a great way to find comedy through the quirks of a police officer with no real authority. Nobody takes him seriously and things still tend to go very wrong."
One question on many minds is whether Scream 4 might pave the way for more "Scream" movies down the road, considering how many people love the series, and Arquette seems to think there's a good chance Scream 4 won't be the end. "It definitely leaves it open," he told us, "So I would love to play the character again. I enjoy it, and I hope the people go out and enjoy it. I loved working with Wes and the whole family." [...]

Will we be seeing any of those "interesting kids" in some sequels? "It is or was a planned trilogy. I think the studio is realistic enough to say, let's see how it does," Craven said. USA Today meldet...
Expect the usual celeb cameos, including Anna Paquin and Kristen Bell, in the newest installment of the Scream horror film franchise, reports USA TODAY's Cindy Clark. Production has started on Scream 4, which will be filmed in and around Ann Arbor, Mich. Fans of the franchise will recognize original cast members Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette, who are set to reprise their roles as Sydney Prescott, Gale Riley and Dewey Riley. The original Scream made its debut in 1996, and the trilogy has earned close to $300 million domestically. Scream 4 is set to open in theaters April 15, 2011.

Alison Brie and Mary McDonnell have joined the ever-growing cast of Scream 4.
Brie, best known for her role as Annie on NBC's Community will play the part of Rebecca, personal assistant to Neve Campbell's returning character, Sidney Prescott of whom, the original article notes, Rebecca is jealous.
It is unknown who McDonnell will play in the film, which started shooting in Michigan this week for an April 15, 2011 release date. [...]
Heat Vision is reporting that Adam Brody, Marley Shelton and Erik Knudsen have joined the cast of Scream 4, while Ghouls on Film says that Lauren Graham has exited the sequel due to date conflicts and script changes.
Wes Craven has started directing in Michigan from a Kevin Williamson script. The Dimension Films release stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox Arquette, David Arquette, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorella, Anthony Anderson and Marielle Jaffe.
Brody will play a cop recently graduated from college who was raised on the "CSI" TV series.
Shelton will play a deputy who knew Campbell's character in high school. Lake Bell had been in negotiations for the role.
Knudsen will have a role similar to the one played by Jamie Kennedy in the first two installments, a character who is familiar with horror movie conventions and a provider of comic relief.
Bei STYD gibt es ein Bild von Neve Campbell am "Scream 4"-Set...
Just four days before Wes Craven's upcoming Scream 4 was going to start shooting in Ann Arbor, Michigan, actress Lake Bell has had to drop out of the movie due to scheduling conflicts. Bell was going to play Deputy Judy Hicks, a police officer who knew Neve Campbell's Sidney from high school, a character described as "decidedly sexy but a bit off." (Shouldn't be hard to find another actress who fits that bill in Hollywood.)
As Bell posted on her Twitter feed last night:
Sucks: Scheduling conflicts with my current gig means I cant do #Scream4! (Hey horror bloggers, I know who the killer is...) #i'llnevertell
With shooting set to begin on Monday, expect another name to be attached to the role very quickly.
According to Dearborn blogger Said Deep, the horror film "Scream 4" will shoot a scene in Dearborn in the coming weeks.
According to Deep, the scene will be a flashback and the production crew chose Woodworth Middle School as a stand-in for a school used in an earlier "Scream" film.
The school was chosen because the "design and brickwork closely match" the other school, but crews will still need to modify the structure. They'll be putting a new "face" on the school's entrance before filming there.
"Scream 4" is filming mostly in Ann Arbor this month and next. [...]

Following up on yesterday's report which revealed Lauren Graham of Gilmore Girls may appear in Scream 4, the actress appeared on the Jay Leno show last night.
She confirmed that she has indeed been cast in Craven's sequel and will be playing Emma Roberts' mother, Kate. Roberts is Jill Kessler, cousin to Sidney (Neve Campbell). [...]
Actor Nico Tortorella revealed, via Twitter, the following news regarding Wes Craven's latest film:
"Huge news today!!!! Just officially got cast in Scream 4!!!! Today is always the best day of my life."
Tortorella previously starred in The Beautiful Life and Make It or Break It. [...]
Dimension Films has confirmed that Hayden Panettiere ("Heroes") and Rory Culkin will star in Scream 4 as well. [...]
Emma Roberts (Valentine's Day, Nancy Drew, Hotel for Dogs and the upcoming It's Kind of a Funny Story) has been cast as "Jill," one of the heroines in Dimension Films' Scream 4, the highly anticipated follow-up to the successful "Scream" franchise. Scream 4 hits theatres in April 15, 2011. Shooting will being in June 2010 in Michigan. [...]
Dimension is taking the first steps to casting "Scream 4," which is heading toward a July start date.
Lake Bell is in negotiations to join the franchise, and offers are out to "Twilight" actress Ashley Greene, "Heroes" star Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin ("Twelve") for key starring roles.
"Scream 4" reunites Wes Craven with Kevin Williamson, who kicked off a horror- movie revival with his "Scream" script in 1996. The story brings back original cast members Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox, though the new flick is seen as a passing of the baton to a new generation of slasher victims, with Williamson already under contract to write a fifth installment.
If deals are concluded, Greene would play Campbell’s cousin Jill, essentially the heroine of the movie, and Panettiere would play her best friend, a nerdy film geek. Culkin would play a potential love interest for Jill.
Bell is negotiating to play a police officer who knew Sidney (Campbell) from high school.
Casting is proceeding slowly because Craven and Dimension are not sending the script to agencies in order to protect its secrecy. With only character descriptions, actors are having a difficult time deciding whether certain roles are for them. Reps for the actors declined comment.
Craven, Williamson and Iya Labunka are producing the feature, which is slated for an April 15 release. Original producer Cathy Konrad is not aboard the production and is suing the Weinsteins, alleging that she was cut out of "Scream 4."
The film will shoot in incentive-rich Michigan. The original was shot in Santa Rosa, Calif. [...]
Bei EW.com gibt es ein Teaser-Poster zu "Scream 4" aka "SCRE4M", sowie ein Interview mit Wes Craven...
[...] Are Sidney (Campbell), Gale (Cox), and Dewey (Arquette) still going to be the central characters, or are they on the periphery this time?
It’s a total integration of those three and new kids. The story of Sid, Gale, and Dewey is very much a part of the movie.
And Sid’s still having problems with Ghostface?
There have been 10 years of no Ghostface, but there has been the movie-within-a-movie Stab. We have fun with the idea of endless sequels, or “sequelitis” as Kevin calls it in the script. Sid goes through these three horrendous things, and Stab was based on those horrible things. And then they’ve been taken by a studio and run into the ground in a series of sequels. She has been off by herself and living her own life, and she’s even written a book that has gotten a lot of critical acclaim. She’s kind of put her life back together in the course of these 10 years. But, certainly, there would be no Scream without Ghostface, so she has to confront him again, but now as a woman who has really come out the darkness of her past. [...]

CS! zitiert Courteney Cox bzgl. "Scream 4"... Vorsicht MASSIVE SPOILER !!!
Courteney Cox hinted to The Associated Press what the setting might be for Scream 4. Cox reunites in the fourth installment with her real-life husband David Arquette and Neve Campbell, who plays the series' lead character, Sidney Prescott.
"There are really only a few of us that survived," Cox said, but she shrugged off rumors that her character, Gale Weathers, and Arquette's Dwight "Dewey" Riley will be killed off at the beginning of the film.
"They're probably back living in Woodsboro," Cox added, "I think that he's probably still deputy, and I've had a lot of kids. I don't know. I'm probably miserable, and then I'm sure a lot of murdering will happen."
It's interesting that she worded her quotes as if she doesn't know the plot, but with her signed on one would think she has some idea.
Kevin Williamson is currently working on the script. He told the New York Post recently that "there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can't promise anything. There are a lot of moving pieces, so we'll see -- but if you're a 'Scream' fan, I think you're really going to like it."

SCI FI Wire meldet...
Courteney Cox, who is set to star in a fourth Scream movie, elaborated on a few details that were revealed by writer Kevin Williamson a couple of days ago about the sequel, which picks up the story 10 years after the events in 2000's Scream 3. Cox will reprise the role of TV reporter Gale Weathers.
"She has a kid now," Cox said in a group interview Saturday at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Pasadena, Calif., where she was promoting her ABC show Cougar Town. "She's married to Dewey." [...]
Williamson previously described Scream 4 as the beginning of a new trilogy. Cox has no trepidations about beginning another three films. "No, because [I take things] one day at a time," she said. "But I heard the idea for Scream 4, and it's fantastic."
The Scream series tweaked the conventions of horror movies as film-obsessed killers terrorized teens a la their favorite slashers. Nearly a decade later, Cox said that she is ready for round four. "I'm excited," she said. "It'll be really fun."
With Cox and Williamson both beginning new shows this season, Williamson expects to turn in a final draft for Scream 4 during hiatus and make final deals with cast and directors after that.
Neve Campbell, who played Sidney Prescott ("Sid") in the first three Scream films, has thrown a kink in the wheel of the forthcoming new trilogy. Writer Kevin Williamson updated his Twitter account with some disheartening news. "Trying to figure out a Sid-less scenario. She won't do it. This sucks," he writes. While Neve was offered a cameo role, the new story was to follow a group of new teenagers. If Williamson's plan was to have Sidney be the new killer, we're far ahead of you buddy. That's dumb anyways. Courteney Cox and David Arquette are both still said to be returning.
Digital Spy sprach mit Wes Craven über die neue "Scream"-Trilogie...
[...] What's the status with Scream 4 at the moment? Are we going to see you direct it?
"Bob Weinstein (The Weinstein Company co-chairman) has talked to me, he's interested in me directing it. I had a brief conversation with Kevin [Williamson], I know that Kevin is writing. What I've said to Bob is I'm not closed to it, I'm not open to it, I'll be perfectly happy to read a script and tell him what I think. That's where it's at and I'm not expecting a script until August. I don't know what the premise is or anything."
Do you know what form it's taking? The word 'reboot' has been used.
"I don't think it's a reboot and Kevin, when he talked to me, said, 'Remember, it's not just Scream 4, it's Scream 5 and 6.' So I guess he has a trilogy in mind."
It's looking like the Arquettes are coming back. Do you know if Neve Campbell will be returning?
"I've been told, and I don't think they'll mind if I say this, the deals on David Arquette and Courteney are virtually set. I believe everybody else will be new."
You satirised the horror genre with the original Scream trilogy. Is there a danger that it'll either lose its edge or fall into self-parody the more films you make?
"There are a host of dangers in making more films. We have a saying in the United States, 'Jump the shark'. You don't want to do that, you don't want to drive it into the ground. You're avoiding those kind of dangers, hopefully, making the kind of film that has self-awareness from the characters where they're talking about film. I'm sure you can run that into the ground very quickly. I don't have a clue what Kevin is writing. He might be completely going around me, I don’t know."
Were you flattered or annoyed by the Scary Movie series poking fun at Scream?
"I laughed but it was also annoying because somebody used my very shots and I didn't have any financial participation in it! It was less than a year after we'd finished Scream 3 that that came out. You just have to keep moving in Hollywood because somebody will be right on your heels making parodies of what you've just done." [...]
EW.com berichtet über eine neue "Scream"-Trilogie...
If you needed proof that everything old in Hollywood is becoming new again, look no further than Scream. The mid-'90s franchise that sent-up slightly older horror flicks is being remade into a whole new set of movies, starting this fall. Writer-director Kevin Williamson has been working on a trilogy that will bring back many of the characters from the original movies.
And EW has learned exclusively that Williamson has approached Courteney Cox Arquette and David Arquette to return. Deals have yet to be signed, however, as all involved try to hammer out potential scheduling conflicts that could arise now that Courteney Cox Arquette's pilot Cougar Town was picked up by ABC. (Agents for the actors have yet to return EW's request for comment.) No word on whether Neve Campbell's character, among others, will make the cut.

Craven: [...] I had lunch with Neve Campbell a month and a half ago and she said she had been approached about a fourth Scream. Right now I think she would do it.
DRE: Would you be interested?
Craven: Not really. It'd have to be a situation where the gig and the money were right. Then I would have to have complete control of the film because it just got a little too nutty over there at Miramax for me. I think there's a burnout factor with that company. As much as I was a fan of their daring, their love of film and everything else, everybody who works there is like, "Let me out of here!" It just gets a little bit too crazy. [...]
DRE: Is Kevin Williamson involved with the Scream 4 sequel?

While he was in Paris promoting the French release of his new movie, "Red Eye", Ecran Large got to meet with Wes Craven and asked him about the recent developments regarding a fourth Scream. He's his response:
"I had a lunch with Neve [Campbell] where she told me Dimension Film offered her to reprise her role in Scream 4. I was totally surprised because nobody has ever mentioned such a project to me. But as far as I'm concerned, I don't think it would be a wise decision to do a 4th Scream. First because I think everything has already been told within the first three movies and I don't want to make the one more that would be the wrong one. And second because Dimension won't really be interested in contacting me right now just after the troubles we had on Cursed."
FilmFocus.co.uk sprach mit Neve Campbell...
[...] "We were really lucky with the Scream films to actually make a good trilogy, I think it's very challenging to find other films that have done that properly," she told FilmFocus, "but I think it was a good idea for me to stop there. They are going to go ahead and make a Scream 4, I guess they're casting it right now and it was offered to me; but to me, for Sidney, it just doesn't make sense."
And why the change of heart? Logic, of course. "Sidney Prescott should have gone insane in the second Scream," she joked, "It was hard for them to get me to do the third one; how far can you go with a character whose friends have either all tried to kill her or died? The only way I could be in Scream 4 is in an insane asylum in a straight-jacket." [...]
Remember those rumours a couple of weeks back about Neve Campbell doing "Scream 4"?
Apparently the one-time rising queen of scream was in talks with the Weinstein co. to give her lungs another work-out for a third sequel? She may have had the talks, but she won't be returning, we can confirm today. Nope, Sidney's done with masked men.
Don't despair though. Just because Campbell won't be back doesn't doesn't mean that two of her hot-water bottle sharing co-stars won't be back, namely, the Arquettes. Gail and Dewey vs Ghostface......Let's get ready to rumble?
The sequel wheel cranks over again......and Mr and Mrs Arquette are holding the handle.
Could there be a sequel to the popular SCREAM trilogy in the works already? According to our latest scooper the answer to that question is...of course there is!
Contacting us yesterday, the individual explained how they came by this information (which we're keeping confidential for fear of reprisal to the original source.) According to them, Miramax and its specialty offshoot Dimension Films are developing a number of ideas for possible fruition, some of which are original works while others could be sequels to past Miramax/Dimension films. "As you probably already know, they're doing a lot of 'em. Lots direct to DVD. And it looks like there is more on the way," wrote our scooper before plunging on to the meat of the matter.
"There's talk of a new SCREAM movie, heralded by producer Cath Konrad, that's supposed to get into gear next year sometime," they add. "What upset me was hearing that it wouldn't be a Kevin Williamson - Wes Craven film. It'll be penned and no doubt directed by some other unnamed hack. OK, so as far as [X] knows, it'll have the original cast in it - but who cares if it isn't Craven?! I think they've been thinking about doing another one for a couple of years and have seen a good bunch of treatments...
"And why isn't Williamson involved? He's apparently turned his attention to simply producing stuff. They've put him on another project called BACKWATERS, which is a voodoo-thriller starring unknowns."
The news that Williamson is a producer on the new BACKWATER horror movie was announced late last week, so that part of our scooper's claims pans out. As for the name of the producer they mentioned, Cathy Konrad was one of the producers involved with all three SCREAM films, so the possibility is there. But what's this about a number of treatments for a new SCREAM kicking around the Miramax offices? That's the first we've heard of any actual work -- even something as threadbare as a treatment -- being done for a fourth SCREAM film. And would Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette all return for a sequel, especially if it went direct-to-video?
Two years ago this month SCREAM 3 screenwriter Ehren Kruger told us "To the best of my knowledge there is no [SCREAM 4]." Of course, in the land of Hollywood no one should say that the door is ever truly closed for any franchise -- ever. [...]
Plans for another Scream movie have been dashed - actress Neve Campbell refuses to return to the franchise. The Canadian star played Sidney Prescott in Scream and its two sequels, and she thinks they've reached the end of their potential. She says, "It took them so much convincing to get me to do Scream 2 and Scream 3! There's no point in doing a Scream 4. It did great things for my career, but it also hindered my career in certain ways. There's just nowhere to go with the character. I mean, they've tried to kill Sidney. She should be in an insane asylum by now!"
[...] Kevin Williamson [...] said his next movie is called Retribution, which Neve Campbell is in, and a few people said when can we expect a Scream 4? He said if he had his way 'never', but it'll probably happen one day."
Fangoria sprach mit der Produzentin Cathy Konrad...
[...] "There's not really a fourth one [in the works]," says Konrad when asked about the Campbell rumors. "There might be a fourth one."
Does that mean Konrad wouldn't be involved should there be a fourth film? "No, I started it, so I'll be there until the end," the producer jokes. "Why not? What am I going to do, [say] 'No, I'm not!' If the story's good, I love a good story. When Kevin [Williamson] sold me the original script to SCREAM, he also told me the other two, and I knew in my head what they were going to be. He didn't have them fully written, but he designed it as a trilogy in his mind. So, it always began and ended as one-two-three. That's how I've always thought of it." [...]
[25.03.2003] DH meldet...
[...] there's talk that part of Neve Campbell's contract for Wes Craven's "Cursed" is that she is obliged to sign on for a fourth "Scream" film should it go into production in the next five years. Has Wes done the unthinkable and sentenced the fans of this what should have been one off stalker gem to the hell that was Nightmare on Elm Street (no pun intended!)
