[07.11.2011] CS! berichtet über die US-Kinocharts...
[...] When DreamWorks Animation moved their animated spin-off Puss In Boots up a week to late October, some may have thought CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg had lost his mind. Its $35 million opening was seen as somewhat disappointing, but they've clearly gotten the last laugh as the movie starring the character voiced by Antonio Banderas in the "Shrek" movies held up astoundingly in its second weekend to take first place for a second week in a row with $33 million. Clearly, it was hurt last weekend by facing a combination of the World Series, a huge snowstorm and Halloween parties, and its impressive second weekend take was off just 3% from its opening weekend, something that rarely happens without a holiday bump. [...]

[31.03.2011] Bei CS! gibt es u.a. ein Video-Interview mit dem "Puss in Boots"-Regisseur Chris Miller, sowie Infos zur Präsentation auf der CinemaCon... SPOILER !!!
[...] The Puss In Boots footage actually went on longer than what we had already seen [..] showing Puss go into the backroom after Kitty Softpaws once she reveals her identity, and he gets all amorous proclaiming he's a lover not a fighter. There he encounters his former friend Humpty Alexander Dumpty, voiced by Zach Galifianakis, and we learn a bit about their relationship, and the three of them try work out how they're going to resolve the problem of Kitty trying to steal Puss' score, Jack and Jill's magic beans. They begrudgingly agree to work together to get the magic beans they'll need to steal the giant's golden eggs, and that pretty much sets up the central plot of the movie. The footage looked absolutely fantastic in 3D though, and it really helped to capture the mood they're going for with the spin-off compared to the "Shrek" films. [...]

Shrek Forever After cost about $165 million to make. [...]

[01.06.2010] CS! berichtet über die US-Kinocharts...
[...] Despite opening to a "disappointing" $70.8 million last weekend, DreamWorks Animation's Shrek Forever After held on strong its second weekend, earning an estimated $55.7 million in first place over the four-day Memorial Day weekend box office to top the two new wide releases. The fourth and final installment of the franchise was made for about $165 million and has earned $145.8 million domestically in 11 days. [...]

[24.05.2010] CS! berichtet über die US-Kinocharts...
[...] The second big sequel of the summer of '10 became one of the first major disappointments as the computer-animated Shrek Forever After (DreamWorks Animation/Paramount) brought in an estimated $71.2 million its opening weekend in 4,359 theaters. That amount normally wouldn't be disastrous, being the fourth-highest opening for an animated movie ever and putting it in the realm of some of Pixar's bigger openings, but following the $100 million plus openings of the previous two "Shrek" movies, it's fairly obvious that DreamWorks Animation may have been better off ending the series one movie earlier. The fourth movie wasn't helped as hoped by being the first movie released in 3D, playing in a record 4,000 3D theaters and 184 IMAX 3D venues at higher ticket prices. At the same time, the final "Shrek" took in another $26 million internationally from the 2,551 locations in nine countries where it opened day-and-date. $20 million of that was made in Russia alone, making it the biggest opening ever for that country. [...]

[22.05.2010] Bei AICN gibt es eine Kritik zu "Shrek: The Final Chapter" aka "Shrek Forever After"...
[...] The darkness of the alternate Far Far Away is a promising start, but it never quite gets there. Sure, I laughed a few time, especially at the fat Puss (too fat for boots), who can't even get his head around his enlarged neck to lick himself. Oh, the humanity.
There's not really any point in dragging out the a story synopsis or the list of reasons the film doesn't accomplish what I think it might have with a little more daring. And if the movie lives up to its Final Chapter moniker, it won't matter anyway. [...]

Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover) is in negotiations to voice Humpty Dumpty in "Shrek" spin-off Puss in Boots, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Tom Wheeler is writing the screenplay for the prequel, which will feature the voices of Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek in a story about the events leading up to the feline assassin's first meeting with Shrek & Co. in the second film.
Chris Miller, who co-directed and co-wrote Shrek the Third. wrote an earlier draft of the "Puss" screenplay and is directing the DreamWorks Animation movie.
The film is scheduled for a November 4, 2011 release.

[30.06.2009] SCI FI Wire meldet...
DreamWorks Animation chief Jeffrey Katzenberg has been pushing 3-D - this year's hit Monsters vs. Aliens was the company's first such movie - but he says the upcoming fourth Shrek movie, Forever After, would work even without it: The movie's characters provide the extra dimension.
"For him, it's really appreciating the life that he now has, which is very, very different," Katzenberg said in an exclusive interview last week at the Saturn Awards in Burbank, Calif. "He is no longer an ogre in a swamp. He now has a family and children and a home. In the next movie, he has a midlife crisis."
The fairy tale series has fun with familiar storybook characters such as the Gingerbread Man and Pinocchio. Shrek 2 introduced Puss in Boots and the Land of Far Far Away. In Shrek the Third, a young King Arthur joined the clan.
"It's great," Katzenberg said. "People love these characters, and I think it's an opportunity for us to really continue to tell the story of Shrek and his life and how he's growing. I think the fourth chapter is pretty spectacular." [...]

[07.06.2009] CS! sprach mit Antonio Banderas, u.a. über "Puss in Boots"...
"[...] a couple days ago, I went to DreamWorks and they pitched me what is going to be Puss in Boots' own movie, and it looks unbelievable. It looks really, really cool. They've been working very, very heavy on the script for almost three years, and they didn't just want to give me any kind of thing until the other day when Jeffrey finally called me and he said it was done. I went there and I was very surprised how the movie is going to take off. I love it."
Banderas confirmed that the movie would indeed be an origin story for the swashbuckling feline and got into a few more details about the tone. "Yes, we're going to go from the time he's a very little cat, so you see actually why and how he becomes an adult killer, and the reasons why he ends up on that path. It's interesting because it goes away from that kind of use of popular culture that 'Shrek' has. It goes in a different way, and the movie sometimes gets almost emotional, I may say, and it's kind of epic. I found when they pitched the movie to me, and now reading the script, a total real connection with the character. Obviously, he's a cartoon, but (I have) a real personal connection with him in terms of what he's expressing. It's very emotional at some points, it's very special. It's going to surprise people I think; they're not going to expect what we're going to do." [...]

[04.06.2009] Bei AICN gibt es ein "Shrek Forever After" Werbeplakat von der Licensing Show...

[22.02.2009] In Alex Litel's Lackluster Emporium gibt es einen Hinweis auf den Plot von "Shrek 4"...
[...] here's something else I stumbled on recently, a copyright preregistration for Shrek Goes Fourth that sort of reveals the following likely innovative and thrilling synopsis:
After challenging an evil dragon, rescuing a beautiful princess and saving your in-laws' kingdom, what's an ogre to do? Well, if you're Shrek, you suddenly wind up a domesticated family man. Instead of scaring villagers away like he used to, a reluctant Shrek now agrees to autograph pitch forks. What's happened to this ogre's roar? Longing for the days when he felt like a "real ogre," Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumplestiltskin. Shrek suddenly finds himself in a in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumplestiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now, it's up to Shrek to undo all he's done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.

[30.01.2009] Bei THR.com gibt es Neuigkeiten zu "Puss in Boots"...
What's that about cat-scratch fever? Well, TV scribe Tom Wheeler's got it.
Wheeler has been hired to write the "Shrek" spinoff "Puss in Boots" for DreamWorks Animation, a stand-alone feature foray for the feline assassin/swordsman voiced by Antonio Banderas in the two most recent "Shrek" films.
Michelle Raimo is producing.
The "Shrek" franchise has ballooned into a multibillion-dollar property, with three feature films grossing more than $2 billion worldwide in theaters, tens of millions of DVDs sold and merchandising in every toy store. A fourth feature film, "Shrek Goes Fourth," is due in theaters May 21, 2010.
The Puss in Boots character, originally hired to knock off the grumpy green ogre, debuted in "Shrek 2," which is the 10th-highest-grossing movie of all time. He went on to become part of Shrek's entourage.
Chris Miller, who added voices and dialogue to previous "Shrek" installments and co-directed and co-wrote the third movie, wrote an earlier draft of the "Puss" screenplay.
Wheeler, a client of WMA and Benderspink, has "Cutlass Island" in development at 21 Laps Entertainment for New Regency and "The Arcanum" set up at Gold Circle Films with Randall Wallace attached to direct. He recently finished shooting the pilot "Captain Cook's Extraordinary Atlas" for ABC.

[30.10.2007] CS! berichtet über US-TV-Premiere von "Shrek the Halls"...
ABC, home of the beloved Christmas classics "A Charlie Brown Christmas," "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and others that have delighted generations, adds an instant classic to its holiday repertoire in November sweeps - DreamWorks Animation's "Shrek the Halls," a half-hour of entertainment starring America's favorite ogre and his friends and featuring the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas. "Shrek the Halls" airs Wednesday, November 28 (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.
Just when Shrek thought he could finally sit back, relax and enjoy his happily ever after with his new family, the most joyous of all holidays arrives. It's Christmas Eve and everyone is filled with holiday cheer -- except for Shrek. He isn't exactly the picture of yuletide joy, but for the sake of Fiona and the kids, he tries to get into the spirit of things as only an ogre can. Unfortunately, everyone seems to have their own ideas about what Christmas is all about, so when Donkey, Puss In Boots, Gingerbread Man and the whole gang try to join in on the fun, Shrek's plans for a cozy family celebration end up spiraling into one truly unforgettable Christmas. [...]
