[...] Tell us abort your character in the movie - Holly Little...
Holly Little is a young woman who has a pretty big character arc throughout the film. She starts out fairly naive, and has to be the strong force in the final moments. Although in the film-religion isn't socially acceptable, Holly is steadfast and strong in her beliefs, and we come to realize she might actually know exactly what she's talking about, and that faith might actually save the few who are left. Bei StarshipTroopers3.net gibt es ein Interview mit Francois "Stunt" Grobbelaar...
What stunts were needed in Starship Troopers: Marauder?
Most of our big stunts involved Troopers getting killed by the bugs. We also had some big explosions, lots of gunfire, [...]
From what I hear, the new "Starship Troopers" movie turned out pretty damn good. My producing partner just worked with Casper Van Dien on something, who told him for the money - I believe it cost about $20 million?; which in Africa, where it was shot, is probably the equivalent of $100 million US - that it looks magnificent. Everything about it, from who’s involved to the storyline, bodes well for it.
StarshipTroopers3.net had a chat to one of the stars of "Starship Troopers : Marauder", Stelio Savante ("Ugly Betty"), who says this one is very much of the same breed that the first one was - being a social commentary and all that jazz.
"Yes it's a very well written satirical commentary in the form of a sci-fi action movie that captivates you and that's not easy to pull off but Ed did it brilliantly. I personally love the faith aspect of it. I feel it makes the film very rich because you could easily come out if it feeling one way or another about your own faith and I do have a strong faith in God so the progression of my character's faith was natural. Each character symbolizes someone or something and the way they endure and overcome tumultuous circumstances in the face of adversity is determined by their faith or lack thereof." [...]
South African actor Stelio Savante has returned home to Capetown to film a role in "Starship Troopers 3".
The actor, currently appearing on TVs "Ugly Betty", will play Bull Brittles in the film. Its his first film back home in eleven years.
The third "Starship Troopers" movie is filming under the direction of Edward Neumeier (also the writer), it stars Casper Van Dien and "Enterprise" hottie Jolene Blalock.
[...] Jolene Blalock, best known as the leggy ‘T’Pol’ on TVs "Star Trek: Enterprise", will play the female lead in the forthcoming "Starship Troopers : Marauder".
According to StarshipTroopers3.net, the actress is playing tough pilot Lola Beck.
The film, also starring Casper Van Dien, Amanda Donohoe ("L.A Law"), Boris Kodjoe and Marnett Patterson, will film shortly in South Africa under the direction of Ed Neumeier.
Boris Kodjoe (TVs "Soul Food"), Marnette Patterson ("Charmed"), Anthony Bishop ("Catch a Fire") and comedian Jon Falkow have joined the cast of the direct-to-dvd release "Starship Troopers : Marauder".
The film was originally set to shoot in May of this year but was perceivably pushed back. Ed Neumeier directs.
FHM’s Tanya van Graan seems to have also won a role, according to filmmaker.co.za.
"I'm one of the seven troopers who must help to save the earth," says Tanya. "I'm not sure exactly where the movie will be shot, but I know that many of the outer-space sequences will be filmed in a studio."
Was just having a chinwag to my old bud, Ed Neumeier, who says Sony are about push the greenlight on his "Starship Troopers 3".
"Looks like - fingers crossed - Sony is moving forward", Neumeier, who will write & direct the film, tells Moviehole. "Plans are afoot to shoot next year. Casper Van Dien will be back as Colonel John Rico. There'll be a new bug or two. Also draft riots. Religion makes a comeback. And the Federation has a new weapon." [...]
Variety confirms today that reports that a second straight-to-DVD sequel to 1997’s "Starship Troopers" is in the works are most certainly more than just, well, rumours.
"Starship Troopers 3" will be written and directed by Ed Neumeier -- who wrote the first two installments, not to mention sci-fi cult classic "RoboCop" - and reunite some of the cast from the original film, including Casper Van Dien, who’ll be back to reprise his role as gun-toting Johnny Rico - now a general, whose recruited back into duty to squash some more bugs.
"The script is along the same line as the first," Van Dien says on his website. "It is awesome".
Sony Screen Gem’s Clint Culpepper had this shocking comment to make: "They realize there's money to be made there." [...]
[...] Ed Neumeier will return to the typewriter to punch out the script, which, I’m guessing, will head straight to DVD - just as the first sequel, "Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation" did. According to the site, the film will have even more of a connection to the first film though, with some cast members from the original film returning to the fold for "Troopers 3".
Casper Van Dien mentioned via his official site that he is involved, reprising his role as Johnny Rico.
Says the actor, "The script is along the same line as the first. It is Awesome". He adds that Rico would now be a General in the film. [...]
Word on the street has it that Ed Neumeier will be writing and directing Starship Troopers 3!
The word is that the new movie will involve most of the characters from the first movie who survived. [...]
In seinem Forum schreibt Casper Van Dien über "Starship Troopers 3" !!!
I spoke with Ed N. last night. He is working on the bugs in the budget.
I like his first draft. We are supposed to have a meeting at Sony soon.

The bug invasion is nearing. "Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation" - or simply "Starship Troopers 2" as the Australian DVD sleeve projects - is due for an April 1st release, one of the producers tells Moviehole.
Promotional materials for the film appear in the current Columbia Tri Star rags for the March product range, but with a big 'Delayed' stamp on the sleeve and product detail. We assume this means; it'll be released around April down under too.
Apparently it's being released so it can have some period of exclusive pay per view to conform with an overall Sony deal.
Moviehole zitiert den ST2-Produzenten Jon Davison...
Having just done "Starship Troopers 2" a direct to DVD title, I can only equate the experience to making drive-in exploitation movies in the 70's for Roger Corman. Fast, cheap and with little adult supervision. Most studio movies experience a lot of "input" from executives and are tooled for a broad market. The classic drive-in movies were solely the product of whoever was standing near the camera. Perhaps the direct to titles are the equivalent of today's B pictures; to be approached with lower expectations in the hope of finding little gems. [...]
I'm too close to it really judge it at this point but I think people will be surprised at the quality of the special effects. Some of the shots are better than most of the ones in the summer movies. I'm very interested in hearing what the fans say on the internet after they see it. The reaction to this movie will exist only on the internet. It will be reviewed in very few hardcopy rags. It's really a web only movie. And as we all know, some of these fans can be brutal. [...]

It's a wrap on "Starship Troopers 2 : Hero of the Federation", says Producer Jon Davison. "[It] wrapped right on schedule, June 20th. Phil did a terrific job. It was first time for me in years to have a film wrap with the cast and crew being as enthusiastic and upbeat as the first day of shooting. I think people might be surprised at the result". Adds scribe Ed Neumeier, "Phil Tippett and I have just finished production on Starship 2 which is now in post up in the Bay Area (Berkeley, California) where Phil has his shop. I have seen some early assemblies with temporary effects and as usual the work of Phil's team is extraordinary." Well keep you posted when the film gets scheduled for VHS and DVD Release.

'Jon Movie Man' was on-set of the sci-fi sequel and has this exclusive report with all sorts of plot spoilers: "It takes place 5 years after the first movie, the opening scenes are of the propaganda commercial stating why you should join the Federation Troopers, lots of scenes of Troopers running and then a scene that is a copy of the Iowa Shima Flag Lifting. Immediately cuts to planet Zulu where the troopers are surrounded on a cliff by bugs and they are blasting away and are told to retreat. Nearly ¾ of the troopers are killed as they retreat towards an abandoned military base. They arrive at the base and get no response from the Federation when they ask for evacuation and pick up, meaning they are stranded there. There is also a subplot that the bugs have engendered a virus that infects some of the troopers and the bugs are trying to get the infection to go all the way up to the heads of the Federation. This virus turns it’s victims into Zombies of sorts"

[...] "The script for Starship 2 pretty much took its cues from what Phil wanted to do and what was possible given the limitations of the budget. Phil's idea was that we should sort of reverse what had been done with the first two Alien movies. If Starship Troopers was a gung-ho bughunt adventure ala Aliens, then Starship 2 would be a more moody horror picture like Alien." [...]
[12.03.2003] Moviehole sprach mit dem Produzenten Jon Davidson über das Sequel...
"This installment of Starship is being kept low budget for an excellent reason; to provide a comfort level for Sony so that they will hire Phil Tippett as the director. Phil and I have worked together off and on since Dante's "Piranha". He sculpted the title character, ran the fish factory, executed many of the effects on location and was an all around great guy. Over the years we've tried to work together as a producer/director team but I've never been able to make that happen until now. The key was the low budget. Sony is getting a huge bargain on the visual effects in exchange for allowing Phil to helm the film. We will also need lots of help from the talented folks in Phil's shop to make it happen and be visually exciting. It really has to be a labor of love to pull it off for next to no money [...]"

[04.03.2003] Bei DH gibt es ein "Starship Troopers 2" Script-Review...
Coming to video stores this fall....another unnecessary sequel! Yay! What we have is a small battalion of Federation soldiers who are in danger of being overrun by bugs and are desperately awaiting pickup from the Fleet. That's the basic gist of Ed Neumeier's screenplay. Aside from the bugs, the references to the Federation, and one character from the first movie, Zim. There really is no reason why this movie should be considered a sequel. What I mean is that this could have been any sci-fi movie. The characters are interchangeable. Actually, while reading this I thought it would be better served as another in the Chronicles of Riddick series that's planned. As a friend suggested to me, it sounds like the writer pitched his idea (with no mention of Starship Troopers) and the producers liked it and figured out a way to spin it around and make it a sequel. Most of the characters are your basic grunts and Zim, who's a prisoner, acts like a Riddick knock-off (hence the comparison). The one major plot twist is that, well, let's just say that in this story, not all the bugs are giants like in the first one. Some are small. Like small enough to infiltrate a human. That's when this became Starship Troopers Meet The Thing From Another World. All in all, it's not bad, it's just not too terribly interesting. I'm glad they're going straight to video with this instead of trying to cram it down our throats in the theatre where it surely would die a quick death. This could find an audience on homevideo though. Bottom line: I was a big fan of the first one. Zim was one of my favorite characters. I don't have a problem dropping the two bucks to rent this. If you're a sci-fi fan, neither should you. If this was a theatrical release, I'd say wait for video.
[10.02.2003] CS! meldet...
Production Weekly reports that production is scheduled to begin this spring on a sequel to the Paul Verhoeven directed Starship Troopers, based on Robert Heinlein's classic sci-fi novel.
The trade says that Phil Tippett, who created the creature visual effects for the original, will direct the project mid-May in Los Angeles.
Edward Neumeier will also return with a new script, about a small group of troopers who find themselves taking refuge in an abandoned outpost as they attempt to fight against the encroaching arachnids, not realizing that a much graver danger is actually infiltrating their unit.

[08.01.2003] Moviehole sprach mit dem Produzenten Jon Davidson über das Sequel...
[...] Davidson did say though that the male lead isn't exactly locked in due to scheduling conflicts. "There MAY be a sequel to "Starship Troopers". If there is; it will be directed by Phil Tippett", he says. "It will be shot High Definition and go direct to DVD (at least in the US)." he adds. And what of the rumours that Clancy Brown will reprise his role as Zimm? "If it goes soon Clancy Brown won't be in it as he's busy with a series for HBO. If it goes in the summer or later, Clancy said he'd love to do it.", Davidson explains.
[03.01.2003] Dark Horizons meldet...
Casper Van Dien commented on the sequel to "Starship Troopers" on his official site, sadly no Johnny Rico comeback it seems - "They may do a SST 2 with Tippet set to direct. Starring Clancy Brown. While rumours of a new Paul Verhoeven directed sequel to Robocop seemed to have died down, Verhoeven told Empire he is still looking at a third part to his 'trilogy' which started with Robocop and then, Starship Troopers.
